I haven't read a page of the manga so I'm really looking forward to this since I've heard a lot of good things about it. Hopefully A-1 pictures can deliver on the animation front!

Fantastic opening episode. Really great setting here, definitely one to keep an eye on. Can't wait for more!

-If we could see them sponteneously combust while singing, I think Gregorian chants would be alot more popular.
-Who's that pokemon? It's Scarfsnatch! "Scarf scarf."
-Rin is Hellboy?
Well that felt like a very very shonen manga based start. *googles* Yes. Yes it was.
After Rin saw the little mischievous monkey demon, I was hoping he'd end up punching it or something so the little girl could have pleasant dreams. Nope, suddenly he's the son of Satan and everything is super serious. Catholicism is the most boring of religions to me. They didn't introduce any immediately interesting character or cute girls for me to like. So I guess I have no reason to watch more.
Hooray for one less show to watch since I seem to have started watching more stuff this season when I thought there would be nothing to watch.

Ehh, it's only one episode. Cute girls are bound to show up to get possessed if nothing else.
The Japanese seem to be fascinated with Catholicism given the number of shows that have the church in them. Must be the Jesuit influence.

Christianity would seem more exotic and cool when you are not part of a society with its roots in it.

I thought A1 pictures did a fantastic job with this episode. The production values look stellar and I liked the addition of the storyline with the little girl as it did a good job of portraying Rin in a sympathetic light. It definitely follows typical shonnen conventions (ie. misfit protagonist with a good heart that has dangerous special abilities that make him an outcast), but if the production values hold, the action scenes should be a blast to watch and the set runtime should hopefully prevent it from falling into the same traps as the big shonnen jump action series.

It's not exactly blowing me away, but I'm a little curious to see where things go from here, so I'll give the show a few more episodes to let things develop. Outside of the son of Satan thing, its a pretty standard shonen fighter set-up (and very Shonen Jump action-series type of humor, which is why it wasn't working for me; look at Rin mess up repeatedly in "goofy" ways! Laugh at the priest acting wacky! Isn't it hilarious?! No, not at all), but it was executed very well.
Also, Fujiwara Keiji is the priest, so "wacky" moments aside, he was pretty awesome to listen to. ... Oh, there's a Hanazawa Kana character, and judging by how the characters are grouped, it looks like she'll be significant. Kitamura Eri will be showing up in some role or another. I have a few good reasons to stick around a little while, unless the show just really fails to keep me interested.

I really liked the first episode, the animation and music was top notch and more importantly the writing and characterizing seemed to have more emotion to it than typical shounen. Felt more like a Kekkaishi or One Piece to me than a Fairy Tail or D.Gray Man. (nothing wrong with them, I like them)
Accelerator's VA Nobuhiko Okamoto seems like an inspired choice for Rin, really liked that music piece that played when Rin was telling that little girls father to believe her... but god damn that ED song and sequence was horrible, does not suit the show at all... thank god that it will be gone by the time the second cour starts.

Yeah, going by scans and other promotion pics the Hanazawa Kana characters looks like the 3rd most important character.. guessing (haven't read a single page of the manga) she's sorta like Lenalee from D.Gray Man's trio. Anyway I saw the lack of "hot chicks" brought up ANN and someone said there is a girl in the show based on Yoko (TTGL). She's voiced by Satou Rina... and I looked up her pic (http://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/characters/7/112977.jpg) and yeah that's totally Yoko lol.

Episode 2 of Ao no Exorcist had many emotions it left me breathless, speechless for a couple of minutes there. It might be different from the manga but who cares. This one is total win. IT had BIGGER IMPACT and the impression it leave is different when I read chapter 1. The fight scene didn't fail too.

That was a good way to wrap up the introduction arc for the show, it kept the strong production values of the first episode, along with great music and emotion. That piano piece that played after Father sacrificed himself was just divine.
Anyway with the setup now over I'm looking forward too seeing the show start for real with the rest of the cast introduced. Also I gotta say from just that one scene after the ED that Mephisto guy seemed liked the perfect character for someone like Takahiro Sakurai to coice... off course things can change and I'm sure Kamiya will do a good job as always.
Have to say that the OP sequence was pretty disappointing, animation used was pretty meh and this has to be the worst anime related song by UVERworld.
So hard trying to resist reading all of the released manga so far lol...

Lack of consistency with Mephisto being the one sent to kill Rin when he's obviously a demon. If demons can work for the church, why kill Rin out of hand? And what's a demon doing working for the church anyway?

To say it lacks consistency would mean you actually know all the details, which you don't. I suspect most of your questions will be answered next episode anyway.

Seemed almost like a test of Rin's motivations/personality/what have you. Anyway, I really enjoyed the first two episodes, but after seeing the preview for episode 3, I'm not as excited about the whole "school for exorcists" thing.

I figured the priest was going to die this episode, but I was hoping he would last a bit longer. He was pretty awesome.
Wasn't expecting the white suit guy to be the person Rin was calling and to be a(n alleged) good guy.
Anyway, not a bad episode. I'm still interested in seeing how things play out in the short term and meeting the girls from the OP. I'm guessing Hanazawa Kana is the blonde haired one, since she just looks much more like a typical Hanazawa character, but I certainly wouldn't complain if she went against her stereotype and played the dark haired girl, who (based entirely on their very brief OP appearances) looks like the one I'll like more.

Wow, quite a bit of action and drama packed into this episode! We see a few things happen (Rin's 'dad' die and him drawing the sword) that should have implications for the series further down the line. Until then, hopefully it can keep up with what has been a great start!

Rin learns that Yukio is both his new teacher and an Exorcist - not quite as oblivious to the whole demon situation as he had thought :P He's pretty handy with guns too!
Fittingly, the two will share a room with Yukio able to keep an eye on Rin.

I loved this episode. The school the two are attending looks like a hybrid Hogwarts/Soul Eater Academy (I wonder if all the students see it properly, though, or if the normal students just see an ordinary school based on how they were reacting to Rin's awe at the place) and the special training sessions Rin is going to attend look to have a pretty interesting crew. Plus I expect there to be a pretty dramatic revelation scene somewhere down the track where all the trainee exorcists find out Rin is a demon and not just another trainee.
When Yukio walked in as the teacher my reaction was pretty much the same as Rin's. :sdsmiley:

LOL. I'm a big Kpop fan (BIG BANG!!!) but not much of a 2PM fan. I knew they had a song to one of the anime this season but didn't know which one. I thought it sound familiar when I first heard it. Gotta listen to it again.
*Ah, now I remember watching the PV to this song. It was actually good until the chorus came up, didn't feel the chorus.

This is off to a great start for a Jump manga adaptation. I'm guessing this has a set length? I can't imagine this kind of quality for an infinitely long show. Unfortunately, that probably means it won't get a true ending, since I'm sure the manga is, in fact, infinitely long as per the Jump action manga standard. Also, I love how much Aniplex puts into promoting their stuff.
Anyway, we're on episode 5 now. This is familiar territory for this kind of shonen stuff: a rival who butts heads with the hotheaded hero, but they're actually almost exactly the same. Still, I'm liking the execution with everything so far. I look forward to more, and to seeing if this goes in any interesting new directions.

It's going to be 24-26 episodes long and more than likely the new Code Geass series will be replacing it in the Fall season. As for being infinitely long.. actually there isn't enough manga to animate 24-26 episodes worth of material as of now. Which is why next episode is a filler episode (or could be an omake expanded to fill 1 episode).
It's a monthly manga seialized in Jump Square, only 24 chapters of the manga released so far and around chapter 18 the manga goes from having 40-45 pages to just 28-30. It's pretty much in the same situation as FMA was except it's only going for 2 cours instead of 4.
I don't know if they intend to follow the current arc in the manga and end it or have an original anime arc to finish the season off instead of going into the current arc.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I must have assumed it was in Weekly Jump because Viz is releasing it under their Shonen Jump imprint (granted, other Jump Square series have gotten the same treatment, but by default I assumed it was a Weekly Jump series). I guess that is just like FMA. I'm guessing they'll finish it off with an original ending, so hopefully the staff is good enough at that. And then maybe in a few years we can get a "Brotherhood" treatment.

Filler? Pointless, anyway. However, it does introduce a new character that will seemingly stick around, Ukobach the familiar and head chef for Rin and Yukio, so I'm not so sure. Maybe this is where it starts diverging from the manga, like FMA. Or maybe they just had a pointless chapter like this in the manga that they dragged out for an episode (or maybe it was really 2+ chapters of pointlessness). Definitely the most pointless episode yet, and I'd rather not see any of those in a shonen manga adaptation that's only going to be two-cour, but honestly it wasn't that bad considering. I think this series does an amazing job at executing an otherwise boring premise. Hopefully the rest of the series will be much more eventful, though.

Some of episode 6's content was from some 4 panel omakes that end volume 2.

Good to see we're back to eventful material after last week's cooking episode. It mostly focused on Shiemi trying to make friends and Izumo being a bitch while Rin tries to help, but we get some good plot progression and reveals as some students learn to summon Familiars and they face a demon who happens to be working for the guy who teaches them about it. It also looks like the class is going to lose a student already, as she never really should have been there in the first place. Hopefully the series keeps up the quality, and it looks hopeful that it will.

I'm also glad we're back to plot. We get more information on the classes of exorcists and some much needed focus on Shiemi. It's nice to see her show off some of her talents even though her struggle to make friends was rather . Stupid Rin for saying they weren't friends. Given the nature of Shiemi's familiar, she would do well to take doctor as her second designation.

Another fine episode that balances character development and interactions with plot progression and action. I'm glad that they went straight to developing Izumo after she seemed like such a bitch to Shiemi last episode. Granted, she still was and Shiemi certainly didn't deserve it, but at least we see there's more to her than just that, and that she has her own troubles that she has to work to overcome, and she does acknowledge Shiemi at the end (albeit in her own tsundere way). Yukio goes to great lengths to try to make the class more friendly with each other, but it takes that other teacher's ghoul to come back and force them to work together like a real team, which causes them to succeed in typical (but no less epic) shonen manner. Rin also learns who has been summoning these monsters to attack them, but after he goes all blue and badass to beat the other ghoul on his own, the master escapes and he reunites with the rest of the class just after they beat their opponent just in the nick of time. Yukio then returns and brings the man who seems like the major antagonist of this part of the story along with him, but it's the preview that really has the surprise: Yukio seems to be part of this and it's meant to test Rin. I wasn't expecting that, so it will be interesting to see how that turns out, and I hope to see more development of the supporting cast alongside Rin and the other leads, and for the class to further complement (and maybe even compliment?) each other as comrades.

Remember that "real battle" last time? Haha psyche, it was just more of the bonding exercise and a pop quiz! Clearly something doesn't add up though, and by the end of the episode we pretty much can't trust anyone. Yukio planned the battle, but he thought Noihaus was just carrying out his test, when in fact he wants to kill Rin. Who was he taking orders from? Why, it was Mephesto, as we learn soon after, and he calls up another demon to come finish the job that Noihaus couldn't handle. Who will turn out to be an enemy next time? It's a good thing that they had that nice bonding exercise, because Rin needs all the help he can get. I'm sure his own secret will come out soon enough.
