I have the first four sets and I've been wondering for a while now...is FUNimation going to pull a Blu-ray release for the Dragon Box out of their asses? I'm also starting to wonder if they're going to sell a complete Dragon Box instead of the individual seven...and what about the original series, GT, and the movies? Thoughts?

On the Blu-ray, probably not. If Japan doesn't have DBZ of all things on Blu-ray I don't see why Funi would be allowed.
and on the original and GT, whatever else, on Blu-ray? Again I highly doubt it.
It's pretty much what MelancholicMariya said. If Japan don't get these releases, there is almost no way that FUNimation is able to.

I should have clarified, I meant GT original and movies on DVD. Didn't FUNi cryptically say they might announce a movies box for DVD after the series was finished?

I'd rather see a Dragon Ball original series Dragon Box before considering re-releasing Z for the 10th time. They should seriously do this before putting Dragon Box out for the GT series. If they already got the movies however, hopefully they'll be out before long. I really want to see Dragon Ball happen though. The lack of it's Dragon Box is holding up my complete series rewatching plans!

I don't see it happening. Remember that this was made for the hardcore DBZ fans, thus its release has a lower profile than Funi's usual licenses.

As a matter of fact they did during their Q&A Session at Anime Central.

Yeah, I'd love to have a Dragon Box version of Dragon Ball. I don't know if it'll ever happen because I don't think that series is nearly as strong for FUNi as Z. I don't know if I'd buy GT again, though.

Since I prefer DB's original charm over DBZ's obnoxious filler, I too am anxiously awaiting a possible DBox announcement. I withheld buying the original run and season sets because of their various problems and missing content, and to date I haven't been willing to drop $400 on the DBZ dboxes without also being able to obtain DB's.
So Funi, come on, license those DBoxes and I'll throw you somewhere around half a grand. =p

Similarly I have held off on buying the Dragon Ball season sets hoping for a Dragon Box release. The irony being, lack of support for the season sets probably diminishes the likelyhood of the Dragon Ball Dragon Boxes.

I'd only want the DBox Movies in Blu-Ray. I doubt any TV series would look good in HD.

I think the Dragon Box for DVD is the best selection, it doesn't need a Blu-Ray Upscale. The DBZ Movies on the other hand, that's a different issue. I imagine, instead of 1 complete box set for the movies in "Chronological Order", it'll probably be a Part 1 & a Part 2 Box Set.

The Dragon Box materials were made in SD, so the only "Z" HD materials that exist are FUNimation's Orange Box faux-widescreen transfers. What with the "Kai" BDs I imagine most of the market that really, really wants Dragon Ball Z in high definition is willing to compromise and pick up both releases... leaving the odds of a Dragon Box Blu-ray slim, at best.
Dragon Ball Z may be the one franchise you could justify double dipping so hard the cash cow's teat turns to dust in your hand, but I imagine it'll be quite a ways off, and not especially cheap either.

The movies certainly have a better chance of getting a BD release, but that has more to do with them being shorter and easier to sell than a 500+ episode TV franchise. The fact that they were shot on 35mm is somewhat irrelevant.

Look like crap compared to what, exactly? They're DVD transfers from masters minted no later than 2004. In that context they don't look all that bad on any setup.
If you just mean that 16mm film looks like crap... well, nobody's complaining about how Dragon Ball Kai looks. It's got more DVNR than I'd like to see, sure, but it certainly outclasses the Dragon Box is a number of other ways. The original cut of the franchise could look that good (better, even!), but I wouldn't be surprised if most of the fans more interested in HD than the vintage version of the series are willing to compromise with Kai and be done with it.
Kai is a much bigger roadblock to gettting DBZ TV on Blu-ray than 16mm.

Doubtful. Besides, this is probably one show I would not waste my fucking money on because I have bought the series more tahn enough times. The Dragon Boxes are great, and as much as I would have preferred it on BD, that is what I have Kai for. Then again, the Japanese went and fucked up that series by cutting it, ruining its whole purpose. Talk about a bitch move.

well it may not be the dragon box, but funi has announced that DBZ will get a blu-ray.
From ANN: Funimation Puts Dragon Ball Z on Blu-ray Disc This Fall (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-07-21/funimation-puts-dragon-ball-z-on-blu-ray-disc-this-fall)
Remastered from Japanese 16mm film reels at 1080p, digitally restored
well I will stick with the yellow dragon boxes, because I have this gut feeling it will turn out like the orange boxes of DBZ, cropped and chopped.
