Latest anime-original series from Sunrise. Sci-fi and school battle action something or other. Looks to be more powered battle suits than large mecha, though I'm guessing there will be some. I can't really tell what I think of it from the webpage but I'll end up watching at least an episode.
Airs Sunday, July 3 at 02:28 JST on MBS
Animation studio: Sunrise

A new Sunrise original with some things that are kind of like mecha, and just from those PVs it seems to have even more Code Geass similarities. I swear I even saw a Knightmare Frame in there. I'm thinking Sunrise is trying to strike that gold twice. Hopefully it works out a fraction as well, but for some reason, those sorts of things don't seem to usually work out that well...

Just when I was starting to worry that Sunrise was starting to get too sensible, they bring us a show with...
A protagonist who rides a scooter that's far too small for him.
A heroine who is the student council president
and is also a billionaire
and also has a (literal) army of maids
and also has a giant robot piloting butler
and also carries around a stone demon head
which talks
and also visibly emotes
emotes which disintegrate all sand-like
They proceed fight another stone demon which is a headless Medusa statue
Said demon, when defeated, is turned into a sword by the mysterious villain with an awesome flourishOh, Sunrise, don't you ever go changing. I loved every second of it.

-Stone cold Medusa.
-Well this is a strange Op kind of bor-- KAMEN RIDER! RIDER JUMP! RIDER Megabuster?
-Wakana sticks her hand in the lion's mouth, so to speak. "Just ignore her, she's special."
-What the hell? Special forces maids? Hell yeah! It's nice to see them get work after Gravion.
-AAHHAHAHAHAH! The talking stone oni mask wearing headphones cracks me up an inordinate amount.
-This is starting to remind me of the start of Shin Mazinger. The music is great too.
-Asskickin!
-Scarf!
-More Asskickin!
-HENSHIN!!
-Shell Bullet!
-Rock club?
-President of the student body in one day. *snicker*
-"We didn't want any trouble. So we bought the school." Hehehe.
Tandoji is tall, dark and brooding. But not so much in a stuck up bishie annoying way. He feels more like an old badass loner. He needs some huge sideburns. Onigawara is adorable. So are Wakana and her friends.
Oh, Sunrise, don't you ever go changing. I loved every second of it.
I second the motion. I don't think I've enjoyed a first episode this much since sCRYed.

It was definitely a show I had to watch when I saw that Sunrise was doing it. Awesome 1st episode, I always had a smile on when I saw the maid squad. The action was great too.

Like strangefour said it's got sort of a Shin Mazinger feel with a little bit of Code Geass and Kamen Rider thrown in. I like that.
Only thing, I don't really like the main characters transformed designs.

Well that was pretty dumb in an awesome way. I'll definitely be sticking around to see where Sunrise goes with this. I was expecting more mecha. The only use of any remotely like one was the butler guy with his new model of Knightmare Frame, but he just got owned by the rock thing and got it all busted up.

Hmmm, well, Wakana and Ruri are okay. I was particularly amused at Ruri's final comment about purchasing the school
And the special forces maids amuse me.
But the episode the episode was a bit of mess and didn't do much to hold my interest. Not sure if I'll watch episode 2 or not. It will probably largely depend on how much else I stick with.

Two things I noticed:
During the OP, Ruri throws herself from the car into Tandoji while he's riding the scooter and he doesn't lose his balance???
Tandoji is ridiculously tall. Everyone looks like a kid next to him. At end, I realized he just clears the freaking door. The silly girl just comes to his chest. Come to think about it, just how old is Ruri?

An interesting thing I noticed looking at those profiles is that Wakana and her two friends share the same family name as their seiyuu. Looks like they're the only ones that fit that pattern, but that's pretty amusing.

Haha... looks like it, except for one of the twins (who uses a variant of the name anyway, since they're both voiced by the same seiyuu). Well, that must have made some of the naming easy for them. :)

-Hey little girl with triple curly ponytails, what's your favorite color? "Aoi."
-Viva Monster Academy!
-The stone oni mask is wearing green today?
-On a US military base some heavy engrish is deployed.
-A Dagora (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sKMRWj8gkQ&t=1m58s) Dark Stone?
-"I'm at school to be close to you." "Don't worry. Everyone has a first time." Stop yaoi baiting the butler so much guys.
-WTF! Okay Oni and Tandoji falling out is fine. But then Ruri just fucking jumps out. Hardcore loli.
-And so the giant cloud Zonder is defeated by combining a liftboard and the megabuster to attack the glowing green weak point for massive damage. Kinda.
-Aww lil Tandoji saved Ruri.
First half of the episode was very slow set up. But things picked up once the sky fight started. Needs more time with the girl that likes Tandoji and her friends. Wait... I want more high school stuff in an Sunrise action show? What's wrong with me.

It seems to still have the problems it had in the first episode that you would expect to be fixed by the second one. There's still a lot to like, so I'm fine with continuing to watch it and see where it goes. There's really no telling at this point.

Eh. Stuff happened, but I just can't get myself to care. I like Ruri, but I don't think I like her enough to sit through a show I'm otherwise utterly disinterested in.
*watches preview* Well, there's apparently going to be some female suit user, so maybe I'll watch one more episode to see if that's enough to keep me watching.

Hey, here's the antagonist and he's got a pretty interesting backstor-- ah, screw that boring stuff. Let's just fight him! Again! And not really develop anything! But it's got another fight, and it's pretty and stuff, so who cares? Still hoping this gets better. And it is certainly pretty, especially during the fights.

Well, I guess they didn't want to completely expose the doctor as either the real or a second (but really more evil than the first guy - who is really just misunderstood and has a cute sister-like companion) villain.
It does bother me just a little bit that they appear to have borrowed Ruri, her butler and her maid team from Demonbane - she even has the same first name. Although Demonbane might have borrowed the concept from another show as well.
And it is certainly pretty, especially during the fights.
The fights in this episode were pretty good. They were nicely animated and there was some actual strategy - they weren't just pounding on each other.

I loved this! The new bodyguard girly was super cute; I hope we get more of her. The animation is really nice too, and the fight scenes were well done. My only problem is that I sometimes find myself getting lost at certain parts of the episode. Still, I guess it's the "over the top Sunrise flare" that draws me in, and this episode kept it going.

Oh hey, its Nakajima Megumi, haven't heard from her in a while. Anyway, Ruri must be related to Klein Sandman. UNLIMITED MEIDO WORKS
Tandouji is...ok, I guess. Wakana is lol Itou Kanae. Took me a while to realize that by "rock club" they meant "rocks" not, well, "Rock".
And yes, buying the school was clearly the easiest solution.

To be honest, I wasn't really feeling this episode. That being said, I expect it was mostly due to being an "info dump" and "set up" episode. So hopefully it's one of those shows that gets better once the true flow starts.
That being said, Ruri is hot and interests me. I especially like seeing her chest and such. Plus, the scene near the end about buying the school. Yeah, she might just give a reason to watch this for now.

I've decided this anime should now mainly focus on collecting rocks, just because.
Ruri continues to be the main motivation.
So how long before "I need your power" becomes "Take me now"?

Episode 1:
- I'm going to like Ruri a lot. Great design. Also, Nakajima Megumi! Love love love her voice in every role I've heard her in (not that it's been a lot). Not to mention as Gumi.
- Man Wakana is aggressively oblivious, but of course at the same time that also means she's the only one that can read Alma right.
- ...Suddenly, maid army.
- Delicious zettai ryouiki snipers!
- Ruri's penchant for wearing partly see-through clothing is pretty awesome.
- ...Unicorn power? Oh and I guess I should take note of the talking stone head...
- Speaking of stone...
- Hahah oh wow, their, uh, secret base (or ship bridge?) is... flamboyant.
- Maid soldiers sliding down poles like it's the fire department...
- Things going boom!
- Ruriii~~~!
- Hahah he gives her a thumbs up.
"We didn't want any trouble so we bought the school." Hahhahaha.
Oh god, this show. Well, first episode of this did a lot more for me than Star Driver so I think I'm back on board with this latest crazy Sunrise action series.

Episode 2:
- Hahahaha, their school leveled up. Big time.
- Ruri has a sister? Must be that Aoi person.
- So what's the over/under on how many episodes it takes Kagami to turn evil as he lashes out against Alma for stealing away his beloved Ruri? Episode 18 +/- 2? Or a lot earlier, like a first cour climax?
- ...Stuff and engrish. I think that ship is going to be turned into a Neuroi.
- Ah, so Alma had a pendant similar to Ruri's, and when it was thrown away he went nutty.
- Yep, it's Aoi. Stuck in a crystal. Kagami is taking the guilt-trip route directly against Ruri's orders.
- AHHAHA, we're attacking the enemy while skydiving. This show is awesome. And Ruri just jumps right out. Who needs parachutes? I do like how much she trusts him - leaping out of a plane, just trusting that it'll work out.
- Now we're surfing!
- The projected emoticons are so weird.
- Of course Alma knew Ruri when they were kids... at least once.
Here's hoping every fight stays that ridiculous.

07-26-2011, 07:51 PM
-The black Rival comes out of a pokeball gateway?
-Rider vs Rider fight!
-Naito has a pretty pink treasure trail tattoo. He also seems to have stolen Iori Yagami's spare waredrobe.
-The power of the Sacred Seven can turn a man into an angel or a devil. So it's made from parts of Mazinger Z.
-Security snacking school girl?
-Maidchanics are hot.
-That might be the laziest "henshin" ever. Looks like a cross between a Knight Saber and a Guyver in a hideous green color.
-Cannon spike! She fights like Cammy plus guns.
-Next week school festival, Oni~ And a Guncannon in rollout colors-- wait what?
So Kenmi makes knock off Dark Stone Riders. Kenmi seems like a scummy guy. Why is Ruri playing his game?

-Moero oreo drinks. counds disgusting.
-Operation mirror force! I hope this involves the maids posing infront of mirrors trying on new outfits.
-Spare scared jewel? Does each transformation destroy a jew or something? Why doesn't Alma have one on him anyone just incase shit happens and Ruri is no where nearby?
-Operation Mirror Force Guntank Launch!
-Guntank is sotty he popped your balloons. Guntank apologies.
-The drink is embarrassing?
How is this managing to be a boring Sunrise show? Are they just recycling left over scraps of plots from other shows? The festival preparations feel like an unfinished script left overs taped together. It just serves to remind me how fun the school festival episode in Code Geass was.

Wow. That was just bad. The worst part is that I really don't think I'm going to drop it, because I really want to see this new Sunrise original all the way through. But this episode... damn. The series has been running around with its head cut off for the past few episodes, so instead of sitting down and thinking of how to pull it together and get it to be something worth watching, they throw away any original ideas and go for a boring school festival episode without anything new or even any of the best school festival episode tropes? Yeah, I don't have much hope left for the future of this series.

The biggest problem I have with this show is that it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I thought the first episode was actually exceptionally good as first eps go, and it really got me interested. But we haven't gotten hardly any character or plot development since then. They just seem to be spinning their wheels and I'm really losing interest. Which is sad, as there's no real reason Sacred Seven couldn't be a really fun series. I really hope they manage to turn it around soon.

This episode wasn't quite as bad. I'm surprised they didn't actually do a beach episode at all, and instead just plopped the characters on the beach and went off to have a regular monster of the week storyline in a nearby rocky area. It ended up being a lot of action, which was well done, and some good character development for Sebastian, or whatever his name is in this show. It still didn't progress things at all, and there's still nothing remotely special about the series.

- Did the baddie talk before this?
- Huh they're developing the "villain" sooner than I thought.
- ...What is Fei's gender? I have absolutely no idea.
- Ruri's partly see-through tops are the sexiest thing... Mmm, Ruri shoulders. If we don't get at least one bikini scene...
- So, anyone gonna introduce hungry headphones girl? Or will she just sit there and not be referenced? :sd:
- Guess not (yet).
- Ruriiiii! Every time I see her I feel so happy. <3
- Man your mech sucks, Kagami. All you've done is get beat to hell. Time for an upgrade already.
- YES! HUNGRY HEADPHONES GIRL! Between the food and the pants I was almost hoping it'd be a Nonaka Ai role so I could make Kyouko jokes... so who does voice her? ::checks:: Takabe Ai. Who also voiced... Fumi in Aoi Hana!? Bwhahahah.

- Kagami thinks he can take the wear Darkstone. If past performance is anything to go by, he'll fail miserably.
- Hahaha, oh Alma, you're so awkward. You're a pretty decent guy so far.
- Gem girl sees transformed Alma already? I guess they'll pass it off as cosplay for an event. >_>
- Or she could assume it herself. Heh.
- Uh, isn't any weirded out by the ground beneath their feet turning to stone? In the middle of the school?
- Ruri making onigiri <3 <3
- Woah. Kagami wasn't utterly useless this time! Not that they were going up against real enemies.
- Haha, the maids run cover by pretending to be shooting a movie.
Oh fuck yeah, just as I was hoping for swimsuits in episode three... they're coming up next! Although I was hoping for a skimpy bikini for Ruri.... ahem.

There is no way a club about rocks would be that popular.

Wakana has just the most generically forgettable design ever. I'd actually forgotten she was one of the main characters.

These two were actually pretty good. The "monster of the week" eps. have been mostly uninteresting and mediocre but it looks like we're getting to an actual plot and villains now. If the rest of the series is on this level it'll end up a solid action series at least.

We're finally on to some real plot, but the series doesn't really get any better because of it. It's still just a series of stuff happening that we've seen in countless other shows, with nothing to set it apart and make us remember it, or even need to watch more. Because of this, it's pretty easy to predict what will happen at any given time. This episode is just another example of all that. One of the better episodes? Yeah, maybe. But does that mean it was really good? No, not entirely.

Nope, no more character or relationship development. In fact, not much in the way of plot development, either. It's too bad that's already not remotely surprising from this series. Just another fight with some decent action and admittedly great animation. That's enough to make up for the lack of any actual substance, right?

Overall, it had a decent start, got lost with some bad romantic comedy in the middle and then had a decent ending even if the writing got a little lazy. The female characters were mostly great; the fights were blah though.
