Yay or nay? I was intrigued based off the reviews I read praising the show's animation and I love the character designs. Soooo....yay or nay?

I just gave a lengthy reply to your post in the other Gundam thread, but I'll try and summarize the main points here, too.
MS Gundam 00 does have very nice animation, and an interesting setting. Unlike other Gundam titles, 00 doesn't oversimplify things down into two factions, one clearly good and the other clearly evil. Instead, 00 tries to project how the world will develop in 2-3 centuries, and then speculuate how such a world would be affected by a sudden intervention by an unknown faction armed with Gundams. This means that there are lots of factions (A U.S. based coalition, a China-Russian alliance, Europe, . . .), and no one (not even the Gundams) has a clear moral advantage.
On the downside, 00 has too many "significant" characters - its an ensemble show, and it tries to follow at least one character from each faction, along with some random bystanders (such as a journalist, and a pair of college students). Its an interesting idea, and has a lot of potential - but 00 doesn't quite pull it off. Rather than build the setting, the plethora of characters actually distract from important character and setting revelations - for example, several of the Gundam pilots don't get any character development until the second season.
Overall, I liked Gundam 00 - but its not perfect, and there are sections (like the season one finale) that I'd like to see reworked. But if you're looking for a more "sophisticated" Gundam title, 00 is a pretty good choice.

I do love my mecha shows being more "sophisticated." I think I'm sold on this one. :) Thanks a bunch for your opinion, as it's now pretty much got me hooked on slowly picking up the seasons off ebay or amazon.

It's a good series to watch. There is a ton of depth to the characters and this series does a great job of bringing it out.

I enjoyed it. The fights and animation are all cool and there's a elements of a political thriller in it that appealed to me. I thought it was like a reworked version of Gundam Wing's story, which I liked more than Wing. It's gets a bit ridiculous and fantastical sometimes but overall I thought it was entertaining.
I wouldn't buy the current R1 release unless you only have a DVD player though. The show is consistently amazing to look at but all of that is lost due to the US release format.

Well i didn't watch the show yet (waiting for BD release for the series). However, my friend, who is a die hard UC fan like me with the the difference that he didn't like any non-UC Gundam before, liked this one even more than any other UC Gundam we watched.
