For those that don't have the glasses-free N3DS system, this' your chance as Nintendo confirmed that they plan on making a big price cut for the 3DS.

Here's more
In an astounding and unexpected set of announcements, Nintendo took a huge leap in righting the wrongs of the 3DS' shaky launch. The system, which released in the US on March 27 with a hefty $250 dollar price tag, will see a massive price cut to $170 come August 12.

This drop, paired with the host of big name titles headed to the system later this year (Star Fox 64 3D, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and Kid Icarus: Uprising, to name a few), should be just what the fledgling system needs to gain the momentum it's been lacking due to its steep price tag and slow software lineup.

As long-awaited icing on a long-awaited cake, Nintendo is also rewarding early adopters (anyone who buys the system and takes it online before the price drop goes into effect) with 10 free Game Boy Advance games and 10 free NES virtual console games, all of which will be available to them on the 3DS eShop before they become available for purchase to the general public.

Needless to say, it's a big news day for 3DS owners, as well as those who've been on the fence about purchasing the new system, and IGN wants to know what you think about all of this. So take part in the polls below, and elaborate on your choices in the comments section. Turns out Nintendo has been listening, and so are we, so sound off and let your voice be heard!

It's still not a worthwhile purchase, but at least now it's due merely to the pitiful software lineup rather than the ridiculous amount of overpricing Nintendo was doing. The announced games for their loyalty giveaway don't interest me, but they are generally considered good games. If you were suckered into buying a 3DS these last few months, you're getting good games as compensation.

This price drop does make me more seriously consider getting a 3DS when Resident Evil Revelations and the Devil Survivor games release, though.

Well that sure sounds like a much better price. It will be much easier to afford it in time to play Megaman Legends 3... oh right. Fuck. I have no need for a 3DS at all.

lol True. Though, Nintendo's still not out of the danger zone yet. While this goes on, they'll be also loosing lots of money as well while each system is sold.

The price drop is a step in the right direction. But i personally still want "No Regional locking" before considering the 3DS. Beside so far only the upcoming Resident Evil-Revelations interests me from the lineup.

Why do i i want the handheld to be region-free ? Because i am expecting games like: SD Gundam, Super Robot Taisen....etc to be released sooner or later, which i always import.

Rumor is that 3DS as good as dead... new model coming in 2012?!

2nd analog stick and less focus on glasses free 3D.

2nd analog stick would mean that anyone who forked over 250 or 170 is SOL when new model comes out.
