Second season of one of the surprise hits of last year. Ika-chan's quest of world domination resumes on September 26. The first part of Season 1 is scheduled to street on September 27 via Media Blasters.

Some info on the theme songs: The OP will be performed by Sphere and the ED will be perfromed by Ika-chan's seiyuu Hisako Kanemoto in character (i.e., she will be performing as Ika Musume)

Then Kiyomi! And we meet her friends, who are all very cute. I especially like Tomomi who has very impressive...twintails. Yes, twintails, totally not meaning that she's got nice boobs. Oh wait. Also a sorta sweet moment involving Sanae.

That was my favorite of the three. Mostly because of Sanae's jealousy towards Ika's friends, but yeah Tomomi looks pretty impressive with her....uh....twintails :nosebleed:.

Also liked the new opening sequence and the two theme songs. Kanemoto sounds great singing in character. Nicely done.

This episode again has a decent amount of Sanae in the later part. Speaking of that, I wonder what will happen when Sanae meets Kiyomi? She'd be extremely jealous of what happened at the end of the first part. :)

Well, took until the second series, looks like I got just that here, and it was so sweet.

I'm very glad Ika Musume is back. The first segment was ok, but the second segment with Kiyomi and her friends was a lot more fun.

Once again, we return to Ika's daily life as she generally avoids doing anything resembling invading. With good reason (questionable competency at best aside), as she gets Chizuru to remind us.

Kyomi brings friends! I especially like Tomomi. Her friends need to start taking tips from her on what to wear to the beach. And somehow, they actually like Sanae. Of course, none of them realize how close Sanae was to murdering Kiyomi and that their coming there probably saved her life...

And we actually get a kind of sweet moment out of Sanae.

2A: Squid Girl tries to gain some new recuits to her squidvasion plans by visiting Takeru's school. She wins them over and even plays soccer with them (and is very bad at it :P). But eventualy their teacher wins them back with ice cream.

2B: The Lemon House needs more female customers, so Eika and Chizuru had Nagisa disguised as a man to lure them in. Then Ayumi helps out to attract more male customers to help balance out, but ends up frightening some of them with those brass knuckles Chizuru gave her.

2C: Ika-chan reveals that she can adjust her weight with her bracelets. At the end she gets "kidnapped" by a black kite and later Chizuru fiddles around with Ika's bracelets and made her so heavy that she sank to the ground.

Another enjoyable set of episodes. My advise to Ika-chan: Stick to baseball :P .

- Alien invasion movies are tearjerkers when the aliens fail. ;_; Poor tentacle monsters!
- Okay I have nothing to say about the first segment except IKA-CHAN IS SO CUUUUUUUUTE. And I love her abject terror in front of Chizuru.

Episode 2:

- Ikamusume starts with the young ones. Indoctrination is the way to go! After displacing their teacher.
- Ika is terrible at soccer.

- Nagisa slicks her hair back and becomes a bishie?
- Ayumi! Ayumi! Ayumi!
- Ayumi with spiked knuckles. That's a weird combination.
- Queen Ika! Well, she has at least a few subjects who will worship her no matter what...

- Sanae trying to lose weight? ...Why?
- Head fin slap! Yes!
- Oh wow, do not talk about weight around Chizuru. That poor scale. And that means Ika really is about 100kg. Tentacles are heavy!
- Or her bracelets control it. So they have a purpose!
- Huh. Counterweights. That makes sense actually.
- Ika can fly!
- And weigh 20,000kg...

3A: Alex is jealous of Sanae giving all of her attention to Ika-chan, sh he bites Ika in the leg. Eiko suggests that Ika walks Alex so they can bond. They do get closer after their battle with the bigger dog, but all for naught after Sanae attends to Ika.

3B: Ika observes a group of kids exercising, and emulates their movements at Lemon. She joins the group but causes trouble.

3C: Goro recruits Ika as a lifeguard. Ika becomes somewhat of an enforcer on the beach.

End credits: Ika walking on the beach with Alex.

Middle segment got me ROFL with the instructor's commentary and Ika accidentally knocking out the kids with her tentacles. Funniest segment that I've watched so far in the series (both seasons).

The official website of the second Squid Girl television anime series announced on Tuesday that the anime will not air new episodes on October 24 and November 7 "due to circumstances at the station" TV Tokyo in the Kanto area.

Update: More information and image added. Since TV Aichi and TV Osaka (the other two stations showing the anime) will start their broadcasts two weeks after TV Tokyo did, TV Tokyo's hiatus will bring all three stations' episode schedules in line.

Takeru couldn't help a foreigner out and wants to learn English. Ika ends up wanting to learn English too, of course to prepare for the eventual invasion of America :), so they want to get help from Cindy. It's really amusing how different Cindy seems to be when she is away from the beach and visiting someone's home like a normal person. :sweat: Anyway, hilarious moments abound with Eiko mixing up Japanese words that sound like English ones, culminating in her unintentionally telling the foreigner "I'll kill you!". This episode seems like it's going to be a really tricky one to dub, if Bang Zoom ends up getting to do the second series.

Second part is all focused on Ikamusume discovering tickling and hiccups. Got some good parts with Sanae yet again being a pervert about it, and Chizuru being the scariest she's probably ever been so far...

With the third part, Ika, Takeru, and friends, all go to the more unfamiliar fresh water setting (rather than the beach) this time to make bamboo boats. I really liked how this morphed from usual silliness early on to an unexpected return of the ultra-sweet adorable Mini-Ikamusume segment as Ika imagines the rock is herself. Then it ends on a hilarious moment after such a touching scene. :bigsmile: Looks like Ika ended up getting really lost...

It would probably be easier and funnier to just not dub the first segment. Just translating it would fall flat being all in english. I suppose they could reverse it and have the dub actors speak in Japanese. But it'd be better to just keep the japanese puns as is.

Actually this might be the only time I've liked a long string of puns in any anime. Probably because of the bilingual nature.

Wow...the "English" episode is one of the best so far. The part where Cindy misunderstood everything Eiko said is downright hilarious. Ah...I see they used a different VA for her English part. She sounded like a American, not someone trying to imitate American.

No, Cindy, teaching Squid-girl won't be more efficient. Just because someone can speak a language, does not mean they are the least bit competent at *teaching* it. And that's assuming someone has a "normal" competency level, while Ika is incompetent at 90% of everything she attempts to do.

The English segment was pretty awesome. Just try not to remember that Cindy is fluent in Japanese and there is absolutely no way she'd be making those misunderstandings. That was one of the best segments in the series though.

Then Eiko inadvertently gives Ika a dangerous weapon by teaching her what tickling is.

MINI-IKA RETURNS!!!! And then dies at sea. ;_;

I doubt she's any worse than the other seiyuu in the scene. I think its just because her character is supposed to be fluent in English, and this show is actually making the effort to have people that are supposed to be native English speakers sound reasonably competent at speaking English.

I feel sorry for the person who's going to have to decide what to with that segment, because its going to be a nightmare. The ONLY way to preserve the puns is to not dub the scene.... but they can't do that for an English dub. They're going to have to rewrite the scene no matter what. And figuring out how to make it work will surely be a humongous bitch to do.

Really like the scene where Ikamusume is feeling sorry for breaking the remote controlled car. She tries to make it up and she is telling the truth. Takeru tries to not show is real emotion.

Well, they need to play outside! It's really easy for Ikamusume to have fun!

It was rather oddly "intense" for a series like this... Even if it's ink-colored, the "bleeding from the head" looked serious and painful.

For a second I thought that she would actually manage to get it off and "die" while they frantically raced to get it back on and save her.

First segment was mostly notable because it made me realize that Ikamusume and Uta~Kata take place in the same town, and the dates line up in such a way that Chizuru and Ichika should be about the same age.

I can never look at this show the same way again.

Second segment was ok, though the final punchline made it more than worthwhile. Sanae was just incredibly adorable there. "I caught the bad guy!"

And then d'aawwww mini-Ika!

In this week's episode of "Honey I shrunk the Squid Girl"...

- Once again Ika have a lot of imagination, this time about a Buddha!
- Goro sure is exhausted but Chizuru just ran half of what she normally does!
- Ika have her personal guards now! Well…for a couple of seconds… Now she has Sanae as her SP… How will that end up?
- Of course Sanae wants to follow her everywhere, even if the bathroom! Even in the same bath!
- Ika can’t sleep knowing Sanae is so close… Counting shrimps sure solve the problem fast!
- How can you get rid of Sanae? You don’t have to do anything; she is the best at it!
- Now we have the SUPER CUTE mini Ika!
- The mini Ika’s adventures were just awesome! It can’t be better than that!

Well, Ika was pretty clueless when it came to protecting the house, but it was hilarious how much she was confusing the burglar. Amusing that he ended up being caught because Sanae's surveillance system wasn't for her house, but for the Aizawa's. I guess they didn't get into the issue that she almost certainly was wanting to invade Ika's privacy more than protect the house, but it worked out anyway. :P

The episode with Ika trying to resist shrimp reminded me of one of my favorite episodes of the first season where Sanae was trying to resist her infatuation with Ika. And the same happens here, where she's able to resist for a little while, but is back in the end. When she was in the grocery store, I couldn't get the thought of the cast of Ben-to showing up to fight over half-priced shrimp bentou out of my head.

And with the last episode, even Ika is susceptible to heat stroke. Sanae succumbs too, and Ika ends up being terrified for a while whether Sanae would take advantage of the situation, despite her condition. It was kind of a horror episode for Ika, but ended up being amusing because once again Ika was just confusing the situation. Rather interesting little episode overall.

- Heh. Ayumi's dad (totally forgot they were related) kind of cracks me up. I usually don't find him funny, but his bizarre reactions to everything after he invites the Aizawa girls over are great. He seems angry at everything but it's really just a severely limited ability to express emotion. :sd:
- And seeing Ayumi doesn't hurt. Ayumi and Tomomi need to become friends...
- Oh god that toilet.
- Aww, it was to thank them for being nice to Ayumi.

- Ikamusume has amnesia!
- But her body remembers her fear of Chizuru...

Ika nearly got started with her invasion of the surface world with hypnotism. The fight against the fake head was well crafted fight sequence that puts some mecha combat shows to shame. The "Chizuru has a heart too" segment was just okay. If the third segment had been a mini-Ika this would be the best episode yet.

Pretty similar to the first series' ending, with the touching Ika/Eiko moment and the appearance of Tanabe Kozue. Poor Kozue is just like Maya, doomed to only interact with the others in the final episode of each series.

This season ended the way I though it would. Nice that Squiddie and Eiko have such a strong relationship even though they're constantly at each other's throats. I ended up giving Season 2 the same score as Season 1 - an 8 on my MAL list. Very similar to the first season and just as entertaining and funny. Squiddie is too awesome for words, and I love her to death :laugh:.

Ika is a girl magnet. Now she even has random little girls proposing to her on the street. Risa is adorable and hilarious. Need more of her. That was definitely one of the top several segments of the season.

The amusement part part was pretty dull other than the final joke about its fate.

Ha, I was just realizing that Takeru wasn't there for dinner and thought that was rather odd, and then he shows up.

I really don't care for the three stooges but they had blessedly little presence in the last part and their machine was a nice way to get a snow episode and to see the girls in winter coats. And the segment included Kiyomi and her school friends, which is always a huge plus. Definitely the best segment of this episode.

Ikamusume is not done just yet! There will be an OAD released with the LE of the manga's 12th volume. I don't see a date for the 12th volume of Amazon yet, but I guess it'll be in maybe tow months?
