Doubtful. Viz said on their facebook they were gunning for the new HxH, and that the japanese licensors got other offers for it as well. Crunchy was probably one of them, but I;d say the series is going to either Viz or Funimation(I assume they went after it) as they can get full rights and that would sound a bit more appealing to the japanese licensors...especially if it's Viz since, Shueisha is funding the series...

Well Naruto and Bleach are both on crunchyroll, and they're pretty much viz's most valuable properties. Also Fairy Tale for Funimation, although that was licensed by them after it had already been on cr for a while...

The difference for the titles that you mentioned is that they were being simulcasted by Crunchyroll first before anywhere else. Nowadays, if it;s not on Crunchy first, R1 licensors aren;t going share streaming rights with them.

And Naruto and Bleach were big pushes by Crunchyroll to get those titles ~ both broadcast on Crunchyroll's part-owner TV Tokyo ~ and both involve special deals where Viz does the subtitling, presumably with Crunchyroll paying Viz to subtitle the series. and after the one week subscriber access, Viz and Crunchyroll both do ad-based streaming.
Those deals would be expected to cover their contracting costs, given the popularity of the series and the multiple seasons of simulcasts covered by the deal ~ a one or two season simulcast of uncertain market appeal might not be able to earn back the contracting costs of a special deal like that.
Recently, there have been a few regular seasonal simlucasts where Crunchyroll has sublicensed from a North American streaming licensee who is going the route of multiple streaming partners ~ which for Crunchyroll is likely to be fewer moving parts than the Naruto or Bleach deals, since there's only the one main licensee for them to contract with ~ but AFAIR, neither Viz, FUNimation nor Neo-ADV (Sentai/Section23/TAN) have gone that route.
Of course, past performance is no guarantee of future results: adoption of a new streaming strategy by any one of those three could well lead to a new pattern of behavior.

Guess I'll check it out, with the usual "depends on the translation" caveats. I wonder if Crunchy can land any of the really big titles this season though: Fate, Shana, Haganai, etc. If they're getting in on the Fate action they've already missed an episode, so it looks like Aniplex isn't involving them, unless it's on a Nico delay like Dantalian or whatever.

I'm under the impression that they may be using a different translation as well (at least, one of the posters on one of the forums I read mentioned earlier today that he was doing translation for it specifically for Crunchyroll). How this'll compare to over translations available is obviously in question, though. Might be better, or at least more compliant to terminology used in other F/SN translations, than the NND subs.

I haven't watched any version of the first episode yet so I don't know which I prefer (some are NND, some are new TLs) but even then, I doubt I'd go out of my way to wait a week unless NND and all the other TLs were bad. And then only if CR's was better.
Worth keeping in mind though. Does anyone know if CR uses the Quarkboy/NND translations for their Summer NND-delay shows like Dantalian?

Yes, sarcasm. What's up with all these delayed starts, CR? I don't mean the pre-air in early September, I didn't expect them to air that, but the re-air of ep 1 is already over one every station except BS11 Digital and I doubt that's the station CR is based on. Are we ever going to get this simulcasting thing worked out so that it's reliably simul-ish?
Same problem as F/Z... if they don't catch up, and stay a week behind, odds are they aren't getting my viewing minutes. I'll gladly choose a more timely source.

Good good, I was hoping it'd just be that. They've done that for other shows before. I don't care too much if it starts a week late, but I do care if every episode is a week late. It actually works out okay for me this time because I can't watch much anime during the week and probably wasn't going to watch Working'!! ep 1 until Saturday the 8th anyway.
I don't hold out too much hope of the same being true for Fate/Zero though... NND may be more a curse than a blessing if they get first-broadcast rights on everything while still refusing to stream in a remotely reasonable resolution.

I don't mind a week late, but I do mind if it is a few weeks late like Idolmaster. After watching a few episodes of Dantalian at NND... I stopped because the quality was just terrible.

Right now, I find this seasons "simulcasts" weak for CR. I hope later this week or next week, we get to hear some more announcements.
I agree, and I find this one of the CR's weakest lineup since their inception.
The only new shows I'm looking forward to are Fate/zero and Hunter x Hunter. Being a huge Fate/stay night fan I won't be waiting a week to watch Fate/zero. If CR really is a week late on every episode of Fate/zero I'll only have Hunter x Hunter as a new show.
To me, it seems like CR for the past few seasons have been trying to pump the continuing series making it seem like they've added a lot and cover it. This season it's even more transparent than usual.

Anime on Demand starts streaming it this Sunday, so if Crunchy has it, they would likely start Sunday as well (since NicoNico (JP), Chiba Tele, and Television Saitama will start showing it Sunday). I'm assuming that they will have it based on the fact that one of the other companies would have said something prior to now if they had it.

As for who is doing the translations of F/Z, my team is handling nico's english version, and I'm pretty sure CR is getting those scripts too, but they may be retranslating or re-editing them if they want, I'm not involved with that.
The other 7 languages I am helping with the timing and encoding, but that's all.
There's a lot of inconsistency with the terminology in the community as is, plus there are multiple versions of the games (the all-ages version, the original ero-game, etc...), so I'm not sure there's a way to please everyone (or whether that's even a good idea).
Being self consistent is key, at least.

Actually, checking on this, the publisher on Crunchyroll is Sentai (http://www.crunchyroll.com/publisher/Sentai) (the only one like that there so far, since Demon King Daimao and No. 6 are listed under their respective Japanese publishers). That's odd. I guess maybe their license required them to simulcast on Crunchyroll as otherwise you would think they would use TAN as usual.

Thankfully it's two one week delays (10/24 off, 10/31 on, 11/07 off) rather than one two-week delay, but still sucks. But it'll still be the full 12-13 episodes so that's the important part.

Something similar happened due to the earthquake earlier this year. AT-X aired episode 22 of Index II on the day of the earthquake, but the rest of the airing stations did not run it due to their coverage of the earthquake. Thus they had to wait for the rest of the stations to air episode 22 the following week before they could run episode 23 two weeks later.

Well, it's going to be an actual simulcast at least and not late (which is the thing that usually bothers me with them), so I'm OK with it.
I'm sad that Tamayura isn't simulcast, but I guess it isn't very likely. I think the licensor would be Shochiku, and they have never had any simulcasts on Crunchy. Sketchbook was streaming at one point but then they pulled everything but the first episode (which makes little sense if they're not going to make it available again in some manner, which they haven't yet...).

And how long have we known which two shows would be carried on noitaminA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noitamina) this fall? Two months? Three months? Why aren't these decisions made weeks in advance, or even a week in advance? That's not entirely a rhetorical question. Every season it seems that noitaminA licenses are announced on or just prior to the shows' premieres in Japan? Why?

Crunchyroll Adds "UN-GO" to Fall Anime Lineup (http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2011/10/13-1/crunchyroll-adds-un-go-to-fall-anime-lineup)
Crunchyroll has announced that they will begin simulcasting the science fiction mystery series "UN-GO" as part of their Fall lineup of streaming anime. The first episode airs today, Thursday, October 13 at 9:30 am PST.
Here's the official synopsis:
"UN-GO" is a full-fledged detective story about a detective and handsome boy combo who tackle the world's most difficult crimes together for reasons of their own. The profession of private detective fell out of favor long ago, and yet, that's how the young man, Shinjurou Yuuki identifies himself. With his superior deductive powers, Shinjurou solves various challenging cases. Meanwhile, Inga, an attractive young lad, serves as Shinjurou's “buddy”. But contrary to his cute looks, he's a sharp, arrogant rogue. Why Inga sticks with Shinjurou is as yet unknown. The setting of the story is a postwar, future Tokyo that still bears the scars of war. Ruling the land is Media King Rinroku Kaishou, who through politics and industry has the communications infrastructure under his thumb. Kaishou has used a clear head and the massive amount of information at his fingertips to lead to the solution of a great number of cases. But there's an underside to Kaishou's brilliant deduction work, which is that Shinjurou Yuuki, "the Last Great Detective", is the one who actually uncovered "the truth" in those cases. However, the public doesn't know this and thus refers to Shinjurou as the "Defeated Detective". Still, Shinjurou, together with Inga, can't help but search for the truth.
UN-GO is available with English subtitles in the United States, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, & Netherlands. Un-Go is available with Portuguese subtitles in Brazil & Portugal.

Right, "Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukinai", with 'wa' being pronounced and almost always romanized as such, but written in Japanese with what is otherwise the 'ha' character. It is one of the stranger of the universally accepted anime title contractions, as you'd think BokuTomo or something along those lines would have been the first choice.

That logic is too R1-centric. Thousands and thousands of English-speaking fans have watched Shana II, and so it would be a perfectly legit pickup for any simulcaster like Crunchyroll. Whether some R1 company has put the DVDs out yet is pretty irrelevant in today's internet world.

Yeah, CR just did it this season with Working!!.
I mean, it's obviously in a streamer's interest to get earlier seasons of a show as well, but it's definitely not a requirement. Shana III would have stood quite well on its own as a simulcasting pickup regardless of whether Shana II was being streamed.

Has it even been announced that you will have to have a paid membership to watch them on TAN? I can't remember if it had or not, and would be odd if so since it's going to be on Crunchyroll.

I'm really surprised to see C3 as well. Seems to be the first Starchild TV anime in a while to be simulcast if I'm not mistaken. I never did try to get caught up on Shana, though I'm interested in it.According to this page (http://ch.nicovideo.jp/channel/c3), Kadokawa is also involved with C3.

Ah, so that would be it. I figured it might be a case of someone else doing the simulcast rights.

I don't believe so (at least formally). This TAN entry (http://www.theanimenetwork.com/component/option,com_myblog/Itemid,0/show,Hidamari-Sketch-x-Hoshimittsu-Premieres-Plus-More-P4-and-Horizon-Simulcast-Details.html/) mentioned Persona 4 would be free and Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere as just simulcasting. Oh duh, never looked at the info page (or forgot about it). Looks like they do have "Subscribers" mentioned for ep 3+ there right now. That would be different from the other series that also got simulcast on Crunchyroll.

That's great. I have been wanting to watch this, but TAN had the streaming rights and beginning with the third episode, it is subscription only and I would put it on hold otherwise. Now that CR has it that I will continue to watch this.

As for who is doing the translations of F/Z, my team is handling nico's english version, and I'm pretty sure CR is getting those scripts too, but they may be retranslating or re-editing them if they want, I'm not involved with that.
Regarding that, when I watched it on NN I'm sure I remember comments complaining about mushi being translated as insect rather than worm, but on CR it does say worms.

Yup. Actually I mentioned that to my translator: We're actually more correct.
This is one of those differences between the original ero-game and the non-ero port... The non-ero port modified the "worms" to "bugs/insects" including a change in design to make them more insecty.
It's been stated that the cleaned up version is now the official "cannon" version, but most western fans know the translation of the original game, not the revised version (which was never fan translated).
"mushi" can be translated as either, so it's really a judgement call... Worms was more appropriate with the original game design, but bugs is better for the design of the anime, in our humble opinion.
I totally understand that people who don't understand this simply find it wrong, though.

It was clear the commentors were familiar with some other version - whether it was from a fan translation or some canon material I didn't know (not familiar with the games - haven't even seen more than an episode or so of Fate/Stay Night). They definitely did look more leggy than wormy.
Rather annoying really to see all the users spazzing out when their favourite character appears - like watching a film for the first time with someone who has seen it 50 times and has to announce all the good bits. It was totally confusing for Prince-Sama since I wasn't aware there was a manga (had to hunt it down and add it to ANN myself).

Awesome. I definitely enjoyed the first episode so I'm looking forward to watching the rest via CR. This also means that every anime I'm watching, with the exception of Haganai, is via CR.
It also appears that perhaps Sentai picked it up, in which case, maybe it will get a DVD release to boot!

It's rather curious seeing the decent number of Sentai-published titles on Crunchyroll this season, and even more so that two out of the three aren't even on TAN. Well, whatever the case, I've been wanting to try this series, so I will certainly check it out.

Good good, it's a bit annoying when things take weeks to start, but at least if they start with the current episode, it's not so bad.
Saturday is four days behind the initial TV Aichi airing, but that's not a big deal for me because I can't watch much anime during the week and would only be getting to it on Saturday anyway. A quick look at the TL indicates it's watchable too.

I can't imagine anything they get this late will convince me to change viewing methods, but perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised and it'll be something I really like but don't like any of the sub options for, like...
...actually, no, everything I really like either has decent fansubbers on it or is already one of the CR streams with subs I find acceptable. I guess there's room for improvement with Bakuman 2, but don't see CR jumping on that this late in the game.

Oh yeah, I guess it could still be Phi Brain. I now hope that's not the case, since it will all be free on TAN. I hope it's something exclusive, either Gundam Age (unlikely unless they got it worked out with Bandai, which I imagine we would have heard about first) or Bakuman 2 (also unlikely at this point, but Media Blasters does have a Crunchyroll account, so I'd still like to believe they'd get into simulcasting now).

Whoa, wasn't expecting that after no mention of the original Xros Wars in all that time. And since that was never made available, I won't be able to watch this, either. Hopefully they add that soon. I can't imagine why they wouldn't be able to, but I guess they want to focus on getting the current one going first. I find it hilarious that of the two sequels in the Digimon franchise, both of them were legally streamed before their originals. But at least with Adventure 02, everyone had seen Adventure, albeit in edited form, on TV in the past however long a period of time that was.
Anyway, I'm pretty disappointed that it wasn't anything else. Hopefully a few of the remaining ones find their way onto one of these sites before the season is over.
