More Nishioishin.
Can't make out exactly where it was announced (besides a Medaka Box 2ch thread), but I guess the details are supposed to be revealed in Jump soon. I know it was rumored some months back to be getting a Gainax adaptation so we'll see.

I do remember reading this manga a long time ago (about a year) but I forget what it's about, either way if it's Nishioishin it's probably going to appeal to me.

I have no idea who Cyan3 is so I have no idea if that tweet is authoritative at all. But it's mentioning a possible split cour show, Spring and Fall 2012.
Edit: Ah, looks like Cyan3 is the news editor for Moon Phase, so at least it's not some nobody.

I'm totally in despair that Kumagawa will probably not get animated outside of maybe a tease for a potential second season. He's hands down the most popular character in the manga as this recent poll shows... (in addition to the girls of Medaka Box)
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110918203021/medakabox/images/thumb/f/fb/Chapter113.png/830px-Chapter113.png
It's kinda impossible to hotshot him in earlier due to his part in the scheme of things... it's not like he's someone who you can insert earlier and just add to scenes..
Anyway here's the cast from the VOMIC a while back.
Medaka/Megumi Toyoguchi
Zenkichi/Hiroshi Kamiya
Shiranui/Emiri Katou
They all sounded pretty spot on from the VOMIC imo, hopefully it stays this way, especially since Toyoguchi is perfect for Medaka and hardly gets any lead roles anymore.
Edit - Split cour hey.. I guess I know what they will be going for... hopefully this sells, I don't want another TWGOK situation again where the best stuff is not animated...

::checks list of roles:: Yeah, she's sure got this amazing ability to get lots of roles and be a lead in almost none of them. :sd: There are so many characters listed that I can only vaguely remember... But, she was Sei in Marimite, and that's good stuff. Guess her main role right now is Seiren in Suite Precure.

I;m pretty excited about this since I'm a huge fan of the manga, but I really wonder how their going to do this. If they really are gonna do it split cour then I'm guessing they'll cover the Flask Plan arc in the second cour, and that may be where they'd have to really up the ante to keep in the otaku crowd since that's almost a by the book battle shonen arc.

Flask Plan = Episode 1 OP montage
Start if from Kumagawa's arc. (insert a few flashback scenes/episodes of Akune and Kikaijima)
???
Profit!
Seriously though I think the Flask Plan arc is interesting enough, has some pretty cool moments throughout, was certainly a step up on the uneven start. With the right direction and look this could be big, if it gets the Bakuman treatment.. farewell animated Kumagawa...

I am fan of the arc too, but I know there's been mixed feelings about it since that's around when the genre shift started. Hey that's one thing I really hope they fix for the anime adaption: a much easier transition into the genre shift.
I really hope this turns out well. It is a JUMP series though so it is possible it could get a second season by virtue of that alone if the manga sales go up a bit. Though since Gainax may be doing this I don;t know how that'll work out.

Thankfully JUMP anime adaptions are more based around a boost in manga sales than disc sales, but I say this assuming not all of the Nishio fanbase has read the series yet.
EDIT: We now have official confirmation: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-09-28/medaka-box-manga-gets-tv-anime
Still doesn't say anything about whether or not Gainax is really the one doing it though...

Personally I;d cast Fukuyama as Oudo. It definently seems more fitting in my mind.
For Kumagawa though, I'd cast Takanori Ohyama. I don;t know if you watched Katekyo Hitman Reborn, but his Byakuran is sort of what I;d expect Kumagawa to sound like.

Ugh...I guess this mean we're getting a 12-13 episode series. Or maybe a 26 episode series since anything longer would break them as a studio.

And it is now 100% confirmed to be Gainax doing the animation: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-11-16/medaka-box-school-comedy-tv-anime-made-by-gainax
Was sort of hoping Imashi would be the director, but I guess that would be asking for too much. I haven;t seen any of the shows this director's worked on, but he;s done a lot of stuff for Gainax so hopefully he'll be able to insert some of that Gainax insanity into the anime, since it's already sort of there in the manga.

You may like the start but I like to think of Medaka Box as a caterpillar, unfortunately I don't know if you'll see the Metamorphosis when it comes to the anime....
I mean if they adapt this to a fault (and since this is rookie Gainax....) there's a good chance that the hands down most popular character in the manga (who just got a spinoff manga announced) won't even appear in the anime sans maybe the final scene. And even discounting his actual character it's his arrival that shifts the manga into type of manga it is today where it really hit it's stride, as opposed to being Sket Dance like in concept initially as well as what it turned into after that.
Nisio's light novel for this is going to be interesting... wonder how he will handle those first 50 chapters in novel form... I'm actually hoping he makes some changes and the anime is based on this LN.
Though I wonder how this will sell as an anime now... seems that the Jump/Nisio machine is in full effect.
Manga actually getting decent treatment in WSJ these days.

I;m at least 95% sure that the anime will just cover the slice of life stuff and the Flask Plan arc. Even if they tried to skip the slice of life stuff, I personally think there's too much material in the Minus arc for them to attempt condensing it into 13 episodes.
Though since JUMP series tend to get second seasons these days on a matter of being a JUMP series, it;s possible we'll see that stuff anyway. Though hopefully it'll succeed enough for us to see the Not-Equals arc since that;s the arc I;m really worried won't be adapted.
I do like that the series is getting a lot of love these days. There's also a third project for the series planned and I sincerely hope it's a fighting game. It would be interesting given how over the top fights are in this series.

I don't think it is. Spin offs are becoming a bit more common in JUMP so I don;t think it;s big enough to make that big a deal out of. Plus the ANN article that reported it made it sound as though it wasn;t confirmed as the third project.

I think they'll stick with the original cast for the VOMIC
Medaka/Megumi Toyoguchi
Zenkichi/Hiroshi Kamiya

I hope Toyoguichi is still Medaka, firstly because she can definitely voice that character in all her aspects and secondly because she's a fav of mine who's hardly been getting any roles let alone main character roles.

If the split cour thing is true, it;s doubtful they'll get far enough to introduce him...then again they can just use his "entrance" as a Gainax ending so he could be voiced either way. After thinking it over(and learning the real meaning behind his speech pattern) I'm pretty sure I want Akira Ishida voicing him. Maybe Jun Fukuyama, but I think he;d be more fitting of Oudo.
On a random note it seems like the manga is wrapping up. Not that it would probably mean anything as far as more of it getting animated goes. I;m pretty sure they'll cover the Minus arc in a second season since JUMP series tend to get them, but I guess it's a pretty strong toss-up as to whether or not the Not Equals arc will get animated.
Guess I should hope it sells and that Aniplex (I;d be sincerely surprised if they weren;t the distributor) promotes it enough.

That;s true but it really does feel like it's not far from the end even without those jokes. All that really has to be done at this point is the middle school flashback. Of course there can always be more stuff added on, but that would require Ajimu not being defeated anytime soon since making a villain past her would be rather ridiculous

If I had to list the order of sphere members who would be most suitable for Medaka Aki would've been @ the bottom. She's certainly way more talented than I initially thought and it was great to see her range over the last few years instead of doing a Rie and getting typecast... But this role? My mind is full of fuck
This role is pretty much going to be her Aoi Kineda turned up a notch for it to work, hopefully the shows voice director realizes that.

Sigh no Kumagawa as expected though they still have him on the page due to the manga cover, I hope Nisio's trolling about the manga ending before the anime, 99% sure he is but without a manga.... no chance Jump put up the funds for a second season if this doesn't sell... Considering Bakuman is getting a 3rd season and Mago got 2 and both sold poorly there would've been a chance...

You're totally right, her Yui voice would be perfect for a GAR character, who was I to think that someone like Megumi who voiced Revy from Black Lagoon would've been a good fit. Silly me!
And I would still rate Aki's Aoi a 7/10, while she could pull it off that doesn't change the fact that many other seiyuu's could have done it better. Kinda like how Marina Innoue's (who's one of my favs but I don't blindly follow and see no faults...) Yozara while good is definitely something that could've been improved with another VA. The same thing would've happened with Kizu/Nise in regards to Aya Hirano but hey! It looks like SHAFT came to their senses, since Maaya Sakamoto (just confirmed) is a way better fucking fit.

Oddly enough...it would seem that Aniplex ISN'T involved with this and that Shueisha themselves will be handling distribution. This sort of makes me wonder why they'd choose Gainax to animate it then since they could have possibly handed it over to another studio that could do a slightly longer adaption...oh well.
At least I don't have to worry about the possibility of an overpriced boxset by Aniplex USA like with Fate/Zero...

I assume he means it's more likely to be picked up by a traditional third party licensor with the usual $60/cour release than given an Aniplex-style "import with translated booklets" release, hence it'd be cheaper. Of course that's if it gets licensed, and when. That's obviously the trade-off.

You're making the assumption that people are spending hundreds of dollars on JP BDs for the purposes of watching them. In most cases (or at least most of the ones here), that's not the case. We've already seen at least part of the show by the time we're buying it and we don't require any actual discs if we want to watch it again. We're buying them for some combination of collector's mentality and wanting to support the shows we love. Being able to actually watch them (such as Fate/Zero, BRS, or the Nanoha movie) is at best a nice bonus.

Fair enough. Nice to see there's some support somewhere.
Back on the subject of Medaka Box I'm now even more worried about how it'll sell since Aniplex isn't the licensor. It is still a NishiOshin title and that'll probably help somewhat but I don't know how much promotion Media Factory will give...though if Shueisha is handling part of it, it does increase the odds of another season slightly.

Anime based on Shonen Jump manga aren't expected to sell well. Almost all of them sell like crap, many of them get second seasons, and some run for hundreds of episode despite abysmal BD sales. They're main purpose is to get people to buy the manga and merchandise. Whether or not Medaka Box is successful will be largely determined by how much those sell, not the BDs and DVDs.
And frankly, the fact that they're using Gainax to do it is a pretty good indication that they are assuming they won't be making a second season. Ask yourself this: how many shows has Gainax done that then had a second season made? Two? And as far as I can remember, only one of which was within the last several years.

And we have our first character trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=JMs1353_qtI
Looks like Toyosaki may be able to pull it off after all, though I was hoping the voice would be a bit deeper. I'm going to guess and assume we'll be getting a Zen trailer soon. He's the one I;m curious about.

Aki sounds fine as Medaka. Definitely looking forward to this anime.
