Phantom: Requiem For the Phantom
Madlax
Corpse Princess
Noir
Birdy the Mighty
Basically I've been looking into checking these series out, but I haven't seen much talk about them. Hopefully there's a lot of action in them.

Since I've only seen one of these I'll comment on that
Phantom of the Requiem- I really loved the 1st part of it where it had lots of action and story being told then in the 2nd half it goes downhill twisting the plot it grows ever more dark and moody. It is a mature and dark series which I liked and the concept of it all, but some parts it seemed to drag on while others were correct with pacing. Depending what kind of endings you want in your shows you'll love or hate it. I would say rent it and watch all the way through.

Corpse Princess is ok until the big reveal behind their origins towards the end, This is where the show just collapses as you watch in disbelief. It was like the ending to Mai-Otome but worse. The major villian group suddenly loses their major threat level status for no apparent reason. Then there's the no ending ending. It cuts off in the middle of a fight scene and then that's it.
The OVA episode shown afterwards is a flashback that explains the history/relationship between a monk and his shikigami that died earlier in the show. And I'll have to admit it was a pretty good flashback episode, if only it weren't shown after everything happened.

I have all the above except for Birdy, which is on my "to get" list.
Phantom - Great show for the most part. The last 1/3 of it went down hill a little. I say it's worth it, if you can get it for a cheap price.
Madlax - My personal favorite of the BeeTrain shows (Noir and Phantom are also made by them). I really like the war based story in this show.
Corpse Princess - A great action horror title IMO, but the ending contains a massive cliffhanger.
Noir - You either going to like it or hate it. This show is very slow paced and has a very unique atmosphere. I suggest checking out Madlax first. If you like that one, then give Noir a shot.

Phantom: Requiem For the Phantom... decent (3/5)
Madlax... wretched (1/5)
Corpse Princess... Decent (3/5)
Noir... Good (4/5)
Birdy the Mighty... never seen it but I've seen MADs and it seems like the action and animation is pretty great.

For a Bee Train title, I liked Noir WAY more then Madlax. If you can deal with multiple flashbacks of the same scene, (for the most part) Noir has better characters and music then Madlax. I just didn't go for the whole premise with Madlax and is the only series I watched to the end and knew I'd never watch it again, so I sold it.
Corpse Princess has some nice action scenes, and I really liked the central idea of the story. Does the end blow? Eh, it wasn't what I wanted to happen, but overall it was a hoot of a series with excellent villians.
Birdy the Mighty is the best on this list IMHO. It has really nice/quirky animation, very fluid. You care about the characters which makes some episodes hard to take. Super action, nice back stories and is just plain fun at times. Highly recommended!
No comment on Phantom, haven't watched it and after reading about it I probably won't.

Is the cliffhanger an issue from the show that is not resolved? Or is it something new that is introduced right at the end when you thought that the show was already over?
I have been thinking about getting Corpse Princess because Right Stuf does have a really good deal on it right now, but I still have not made up my mind about it.

It is not a cliffhanger at all. It is simply that the show does not resolve everything in a nice tidy bow. The show stops at the beginning of a battle but at that point all the plot points and character journeys have been resolved. The result of the battle is pretty much irrelevant at that point because the battle itself is the point but everyone wanted to see a clear victory so they keep thinking that there should be more and that the show is incomplete. I am fine with the ending. I think it was most appropriate but I am in a very tiny minority. I really don't think a clear final ending would have been very appropriate given the nature of the show and the conclusion it was going for but that is a different topic.

That helps a lot.
Thanks.

Madlax and Noir are very similar and came out from ADV about the same time. They're both made by Beetrain and both have wonderful soundtracks which in my mind, are one of the best parts of both series. So it always puzzles me when some like one, but not another; especially as they can never agree on which one! To me, they're both equally as good.
As to whether you'll like them, that's another story. They're very slow paced with as much dialogue as action though when the action comes, it's very intense. They're definitely series that people are never neutral about, either they really like them or they hate them. There's never any neutral ground. The dubs, music and animation though, are first rate.
I have the original Birdy the Mighty ova's from a few years back. I thoroughly enjoyed them. But how they compare with these new animes; I have no idea.

I like what I'm seeing. As far as Corpse Princess ending, for the most part I don't have an issue with endings leaving off with a cliffhanger. The only anime I've seen where it ends in the midst of a battle was Trinity Blood, and while that had me questioning it for sure, it's not something that'll determine if I like the series or not.

Madlax has some goofy supernatural elements to it which aren't present at all in Noir. I didn't like any of the main characters and the whole setup is just silly with a 20 year old big tits blonde who is a one woman Commando/Rambo army. She's back flipping out of trees while shooting rocket launcher and parasailing into tanks and blowing up helicopters with a pistol. Rather than play up the goofiness, it then takes itself super serious and I could never get into it. Then it takes itself super serious at other times
Noir isn't a realistic simulation by any stretch of the imagination, but it's at least semi-grounded in addition to having better characters and a better story overall.

Put in that perspective the ending comes off better, but it would have been better off had it not been depicted at all. The Seven Stars were defeated but the aftermath of what they left behind was unresolved.
The main cast of monks and shikabane hime learn that all shikabane hime face a fate worse than death. The Seven Star's master plan has flooded the city with monsters so that most of the current shikibane hime will hit their kill limit and well.... And the shikibane hime happily proceed onwards as lemmings with no clear way of how they'll handle it.
The villianious monk's actions is somewhat exonerated because he knew the truth. It was a secret known only by the leaders of the Kougun Sect. Why he never bothered telling this to the others afterwards is unknown. The most he did was drop hints.
Then there's how the Seven Stars were handled. Up until this point they were the most powerful beings faced. After the doomsday plan is enacted they were no different than lowly minions. What happened?

I wouldn't mind discussing this with you but at this point we are all off topic. The point of this thread was to make recommendations not dissect the ending of Corpse Princess. If you want to continue this discussion in the General Anime Discussion forum I will gladly meet you there.
