For me, the last of 2011 was Chihayafuru episode 8 and the first of 2012 was The iDOLM@STER episode 22.

I guess it must have been the re-watch of the last episode of Haruhi's "second season" (the last new episode in the 2009 version). I'll be re-watching Disappearance next, but I'm not sure what the next anime episode I watch will be. It's so weird around New Year's to have basically no new anime simulcasts for a few days on either side.

I closed 2011 with the final episode of fate zero and started 2012 with the 10th episode of samurai girls.

The last anime I saw in 2011 was Naruto. The first of 2012 should also be Naruto, but technically it was Shin Chan. So yeah, I probably could have started better too. Good thing I don't really think of that as anime.

Last one I watched was Wagnaria S2 episode 11. 1st episode of the new year Strike Witches Episodes 1-3- This is actually a pretty good series reminds me of Miyazaki's movies; I wouldn't have watched it if it were not for my BF recommending it.

My last watched anime episode for 2011 was episode 8 of Azumanga Daioh, "New Year's Dream Special".
My first for 2012 were my traditional ones after midnight, Devil Hunter Yohko 4-Ever! followed by the You're Under Arrest! Season 1 episode "Manju Terror! Natsumi's Edo Escapade" (New Year's Special). I'm planning on my first regular anime of 2012 to be a rewatch of Legend of Lemnear to kick off a mini Satoshi Urushihara (Character designs) marathon later tonight with Plastic Little-The Adventures of Captain Tita & Another Lady Innocent to follow.

Marathoned the three series over the past couple of days to prepare for f starting this week. Not as bad as I was warned, though the first is certainly the most "complete" in my view. I'm cautious of what'll happen in f given the character tropes and the one I don't care for.

2011 ended with Morita-san wa Mukuchi's final episode. 2012 began with the last episode of Fate/Zero. So last year seems good but sad. This new year seems like unending crap so far.

I wish I could say the last episode of Coo...er, Our Home's Fox Deity was the first thing I watched in 2012, as it would've been appropriate. But I didn't. Finished up that one a few days before. Great show, too.
As it is I watched two other shows - but instead of simply mentioning what they were, I'll be cryptic and say they were both from 1979, animated by Sunrise, one is pretty much an institution in Japan and has been going strong for many years, and the other is fairly well known as well. :)

I'll give you another clue - one of 'em isn't Gundam, and neither is the other one.
