Ah, nice. Of course they should have released this back when they did their stupid "HD Remaster" DVDs...

I wonder how long it will be for DYRL, considering its HD Remaster DVD box came out before the TV series one did. Hopefully they're taking their time so they can have an actual HD version of the Flashback 2012 concert footage, by either recompositing the original animation or totally reanimating it. I'd prefer the former since new digital animation would stick out too much, though.

Since I foolishly put off buying ADV's release, and now that it's out of print and stupid expensive, I might consider buying this.

Now they need to release Cowboy Bebop TV BD-BOX, which again, should have been released back when they did the remaster.

Re: DYRL, perhaps few months after the TV box since Bandai is the license holder (unless there are license complications...).

*p.s: WTK, I updated the detail.

You can still get the sub-only AnimEigo/Harmony Gold set from Robotech.com (http://www.robotech.com/store/viewproduct.php?id=386) for a relatively reasonable $100 + shipping...

Bonus materials (pics):
- MACROSS PERFECT MEMORY (published in 1983 at Minori bookstore. Includes production notes, genga, etc. 250p)

What does this mean exactly? One of the discs will contain scans of the entire MACROSS PERFECT MEMORY info/artbook? That's intense.

I'm really interested in that illustrations book too (box art from all the model kits and previous DVD releases)...

Unfortunately I can't really imagine this being a huge leap in quality from the remaster DVDs (unless they decided to do expensive digital post-processing to remove film dirt and tape).

And no English Subs? I thought BV was gonna put more English subs on their JP releases... they have to know there is a demand and fanbase for this title right? What they dont want to step on HG's toes?

Even with the JP to US conversion pushing this to the $400 to $500 range before shipping... folks would still import this title.

That "pics" was supposed to have a link - http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/I/51h2GAEtqdL.jpg

So it's a 250p booklet.

I just came across this news and I am pretty psyched to hear it. Would have preferred the complete edition came with music CDs instead of the books, but what the hell -- I'll buy it anyway :)

Looks like two editions? One just with the movie, the other is a "box o' stuff" edition? Or are they offering a third edition priced at 13,800yen as well???

This means I will be able to die in peace... provided I live to July 26th.

Famitsu has posted an article about the Movie/Game set with lots of pics.

http://www.famitsu.com/news/201203/22011852.html

There are only two versions, the standard and the 30th Anniversary Box for 13.800 yen. The box also includes Flashback 2012 on the bonus disc.

1) A ninety minute bonus disc, with Flashback 2012(No mention if it will be remastered), Kawamori and Miyatake (mecha designer of the Macross, Destroids, etc) talk about Macross roots, Documentary "Do You Remember Love Flashback 1984", Trailers, CMs, game footage, Image Board Gallery
2) Color booklet
3) Mini Movie Pamphlet Reproduction
4) Mini Poster Collection
5) Mini Genga Collection (looks like a lot of Mikimoto artwork)
6) Tenjin Hidetaka art box (doesn't look like Mikimoto will do new artwork which I would prefer)
7) Anime Magazine archives
8) Movie film strip

The 30th Anniversary box looks absolutely incredible. I haven't even seen the original Macross but I think I need to get that edition of this film.

Though if I recall correctly you don't need to watch the original TV series to enjoy Do You Remember Love.

Yay! Finally! The only disappointment with both releases is that they'll have a game attached, like the two Macross Frontier movies. With the games there, Amazon won't want to sell me a copy or two, or three. ;_; I'll have to shop somewhere with less of a discount, unless maybe one of HMV's sales will apply to it.

I'm _very_ happy to hear about DYRL finally getting a release. It'd be even better if subtitles were to be included, but given the history of Macross releases, I don't expect it...

Tenso or use AmiAmi. HMV does ship games outside JP as well. As does CDJP.

Bandai Visual's official page for the Macross TV Box is up, with the new Mikimoto image and promo video. Art style is very Macross The First (Minmay is uber cute) although Hikaru looks more like his old 2000's style.

For those with the time and initiative it should be very easy to remux these blu-rays with the subtitles from the adv or animeigo releases. You could even attempt to sync the audio from the adv dub if you so desired.

All you need is mkvmerge and the raw files.

Do you know what happens you reuse subs timed to a release from one telecine with a release made from another telecine? Get comfy with retiming in Aegisub, because you're going to be there for a while. And if you're going to try to resync the dub, I hope you're comfy with editing audio, because the same issue will pop up.

Been there, done that. But it was with shorter shows like Gundam: Stardust Memory or Patlabor OVA. I definitely wouldn't feel like messing around with the dub on a longer TV show...

No that I know of. But it's only slightly more likely than each box coming with a 1:1 model of the SDF-1.

Why, because it's a Japanese BD, or "because it's Macross"? If it were almost that unlikely people wouldn't keep asking. Apparently I forgot to ask for the 1/1 scale action figures with my Gundam AGE and Ghost in the Shell movie BDs. Maybe I'll rectify that with the Patlabor films. Assuming I ever afford them, what with the new Yamato series now promising to have subs. And I still want to BD RahXephon at some point. Perhaps I should get a bigger apartment for all these only slightly less likely 1/1 models and action figures...

You can keep up your wishful thinking all you want. Expecting any random JP release to have English subs when none have been announced is going to leave you disappointed way more often than not. Bandai Visual has never reused subs that Bandai had no hand in, let alone by a company is cantankerous as Harmony Gold.

Why don't you just bookmark Bandai Visual's page for the release? Check back every day. But you'll never get your confirmation that there are no subs.

hissatsu
04-09-2012, 11:31 PM
The thread went from "will there be subs; will there be subs?" to "here's how you get subs"... so I 'sort of' assumed someone knew something I didn't. It's not like I'm putting my life on hold to find out; wouldn't Rhodes on page one also be guilty of 'wishful thinking' in that case?

Yes, he would, though that was months ago. There was a very slim chance. Since then the specs for the release have remained unchanged with no mention of any subs. I think it's extremely unlikely they'll be added at this point.

I can't recall any changes in editing of the actual show between the R2J and Animego releases.

I'm not even clear at this point on what the AE/ADV releases used as source material. 'Supposedly' it was the exact same 16mm stock HG had printed/telecined from to create Robotech back in '84/'85. Even though that material was said to be in poor condition. There was an issue with the audio though, and the AE release ended up having audio re-dubbed from another source (minus the teaser/recap elements of eps 1-2, which are often omitted from home video relases of the show in Japan). ADV, as far as I know, didn't make any changes with the audio and it remained scratchy throughout all seven volumes of their release. Timing would be effected between just the AE/ADV releases, because one release uses the same DVD sub-chapter to insert opening titles into the program (or allow you the option of skipping them) and the other does not.

I wouldn't expect any for at least 48 hours. BD releases rarely leak out earlier than a day before the release date in Japan.
