In only a couple of weeks, it will be time for us to start smiling. Plus, I figure with occasional Smile info coming out, it would be a good idea to make this thread now.

Who knows? Seriously, we have nothing in particular to base it on, and while the trailer is fairly well animated, Precure's always had good animation in general.
Also, why does it matter? It'll be what it is, and we'll start to find out next week. Why do you care what we think about it?

Personally, I think that all a trailer like that can do at best is increase or decrease my motivation to try a series. In this case, the trailer increases my motivation.
Not that I needed much of an increase. Pretty Cure is by far my favorite magical girl series. As such I look forward to each future version of it. Watching it is fun for me.
I'm not going to compare a thirty second trailer of one series to 48 episodes of another series. It just doesn't work that way. There's just way too much I don't know yet.
That and for me, I'm not focused on whether Smile will be better or worse than Suite. Rather I'm focused on whether or not Smile will provide me with yet another season to enjoy in the series.

Trailers can be deceiving. ;)
But if the trailers for Smile is anything to go by, I hope it's as good as Yes PreCure 5 GoGo as it's something that you can compare it to.

Well, Cure Beauty is a definite beauty. What? In any case, I have to admit I was focusing heavily on Urara for some reason. The opening song, I'll probably better judge in the actual opening.

Well, Miyuki is certainly living up to the "Happy" part. Although she's not so "happy" that she's incapable of showing fear and worry.
Her reaction to Candy was just wow. She took the idea of a mysterious creature from a book far better than I would have expected one too.
Cure Happy certainly seems to have the drive to help out Candy, but it's probably a good thing she's going to eventually have other cures to help her.

Well, given the house itself was a trap, it's the first thing to guess. Although I would have expected sweets to cover the house. Which makes me wonder if it might just be a magical house.
In any case, with precure series averaging around 47 to 49 episodes, they're going to go through quite a few fairy tales if they are basing the monsters on them.
Nork22
02-05-2012, 02:37 PM
Talk about "Happy". Miyuki is like an ultra-hype version of Nozomi and Love combine into one.
And what's this, a secret world where you can enter by shuffling books on a shelf? Interesting. Works as a warp portal too!
And thankfully she isn't as so bad as a first time PreCure, but I had to laugh at what it took for her to do her Kamehame... errr... PreCure Happy Shower.
Now to wait on the next 4 episodes for the rest of the members to become PreCures.

I hereby dub the Smile Cures:
The Happy One, the Fiery one, the Banchou, the Crybaby and the Cool One
So far love this a lot better than I did the first episode of Suite. Happy hints of Dream from YPC5 but in a good way. Speculation on Cure Decor: The villains are either using her power to create the monsters are are using pieces of her. If the latter, assembly may be required to get Cure number 6 (or 7 if rumors and the gems in the pact indicate)

Smile Precure is follow up for an idea from the last episodes Suite Precure of using Happiness to overcome sadness.
So far the the first episode of Smile Precure is more entertaining than Suite Precure.
We get to see all the 5 main characters in the first episode in the class room.
Happy is one of those comedic energetic characters that I find likable.
Miyuki goes out and searches for the fairy instead of the other way around.
The villain seems more useful and more menacing than the three choir men in Suite Precure.
The main plot of reviving a super bad villain is stated, of waiting 20+ episodes in Suite Precure to figure out what is going on.
Since this is the first time becoming a Precure, Precure Happy powers misfires.
-----------
The only thing I don't like about Smile Precure is the transformation.
The music and transformation scene looks weak compared to the other Precure series.

Episode 1:
- Do the Precure magical creatures always look like this? Suite was a bit different but this thing looks just like what I remember from Heartcatch.
- Man. This is definitely a different sort of role than what I've usually heard Fukuen Misato in.
- ::watches OP:: Well, the girls are all very cute. I wonder how quickly they'll all be assembled? There's no attempt made to hide any of their identities, so presumably it won't be long.
- So we have Fukuen for Miyuki, and Akane is some total nobody, but I really like her already. And then Nao is Inoue Marina! <3
- Jeeze so they're all in the same class, that definitely gets them together quickly.
- OH GOD YAYOI IS ADORABLE.
- Alright, one of the baddies. Please please please don't be as atrocious as the enemies in Suite, goddamn.
- BAD END!
- Well. So far wolf boy seems at least competent. He's not a sputtering moron like Trio the Minor.
- Happy's transformation is... okay. I'll probably skip it though.
That sure was magical girly. Miyuki is fun, but I think I might like Yayoi best. Not sure yet if I'll end up watching this whole show but it seems okay so far.

Not really, usually they are pretty different (http://fencedude.com/Precure/PrecureMascots.jpg).
Candy does look an awful lot like the Heartcatch Fairies though, and that is unusual enough to be notable.

And so it was that Akane learned that she truly does have a Sunny personality. Either that or she became Cure Sunny.
In any case, time for Miyuki and Akane to exchange vows. Wait, sorry I accidentally switched over to my fantasy world.

The PreCure stuff is meant to be a secret, but Miyuki has already eye'd up Akane and Yayoi for the next 2 and told them about it. Good choice!
Amusing how semi-useless Cure Smile is, and how she needs to build up her super bar to do her special attack. Cure Sunny is at least physically abled. I wonder about Yayoi now.

I like the character designs here more than Suite, not as much as Heartcatch.
The way the show introduced the other four Precures-to-be bugged me, but whatever, I'll give the show a pass on the heavy handed, awkward introductions due to its intended target audience.
But "crybaby" is the defining character trait of one of them. Ugh.
Miyuki's genki klutziness and airheadedness was turned up a bit too high for my tastes. Her nervousness over her introduction was ratcheted up to ridiculous levels, having "I'm looking for happiness" as some sort of life goal is excessively cheesy even for a kids show and makes it rather hard to connect with the character, and she was just very tiring to watch for most of the episode up until she became a PreCure. And her "Look everyone, its Candy!" bit was incredibly obnoxious.
The transformation scene was decent. Not as good as Heartcatch, but at least on par with Suite.... though to be honest, I barely remember them already.
The wolf is the least silly and/or annoying PreCure villain I've met yet. He's actually menacing and comes across as at least semi-competent rather than a bumbling idiot or otherwise having some irritating character trait.
By the end of the episode, I'm not remotely able to ship her with any of the other girls. ;_;
Okay first episode, I guess. I just hope they tone down Miyuki a bit in future episodes. I liked her the first 30-60 seconds she was on screen and after she became a PreCure, but it was just too much for the rest of the episode. I suppose if nothing else, sharing screentime with the other girls will help with that.

Miyuki's genki klutziness and airheadedness was turned up a bit too high for my tastes.
Clearly she's taking her Pretty Cure name way too literally and this is even before she becomes one. Well, it could be worse. I mean what if she ended up being "Cure Emo" or "Cure Gripes About Everything*?
Actually if this were a different type of series, I'd expect it to be revealed that her attitude is actually a front and that we'd soon find out that <insert a bunch of really bad stuff that indicates a crappy family life here>.

I can see the similarities between Cure Sunny and Cure Rouge. Both wearing red as their colours and using sports in their attacks. I wonder if the upcoming DX movie will address this?
Anybody notice the villains clock have 22 hours and it clicks down each episode? So does the main villain will appear in episode 22?
The Precure reaction to their powers is more like HeartCatch not used to it.

It will be a matter of "We have the same powers! Let's be friends!" like all the other DX movies.
The Precure reaction to their powers is more like HeartCatch not used to it.
It's more like every other PreCures who aren't used to it yet. Once our Sentai team is assembled, they will be more interesting to watch.

I enjoyed this episode a lot more than the first one. It lacked the awkward, questionable introductions and Miyuki was purely entertaining instead of tiring and occasionally irritating.
The way she gathers energy for her Happy Shower is highly amusing.
Akane's a lot of fun too, particularly when Miyuki was asking her to become a Precure and then tried to hide Candy from her.
And now Akane becomes Sailor Mars Cure Sunny. And Sunny Fire is probably a better (in terms of being fun to watch) attack than anything in Suite not done by Cure Muse.
Also, I'm not the only one trying to imagine all of Miyuki's lines in Yuuki Aoi's voice, right? ...........Right?

Though they pretty much ripped it right off of Cure Rouge's Fire Strike (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-olxCFkG1Xs&feature=related&hd=1&t=15s), only with Volleyball instead of Soccer.

- Ahaha, so much for secrecy. Miyuki just straight up tries to recruit Yayoi and Akane.
- I really love Yayoi's design. So cute. <3
- So the Akanbee won't all be based on fairy tales and such.
- I wonder if Miyuki will ever stop looking terribly constipated when she uses "Happy Shower". >_>
- Hah it missed.
- Ah, interesting, Akane just sort of naturally breaks out of the BAD END funk. And recognizes Miyuki while transformed. That doesn't seem to happen often.
- Oooh, Sunny's transformation is a bit better than Happy's. She sets herself on fire!
Akane is great, even if I tend to be iffy on that accent.

I like Fukuen Misato (though she's not one who's voice I can pick out just by hearing it) and I'm enjoying her Miyuki. It's just that Miyuki reminds me of Hibiki and Hana, them all being outgoing, emotive, somewhat spastic characters that Ao-chan has a particular ability to make so much fun (though her ability to do that is hardly limited to this kind of character). So after being teased that Ao-chan would be in this, I can't help but imagine her doing Miyuki.

- Man, Miyuki and Akane have no qualms at all about outing Yayoi immediately. :sd:
- ...Yayoi sure accepts seeing Candy rather easily. And heh she thinks its a pig. Uhhh, I can see "sheep", sort of, but where do you get pig?
- Wow, what a dickhead. Talk a about totally unprovoked attack on Yayoi from the retard who won.
- Booooooo, the double-transformation just handles them completely separately. No touchy feely goodness between Precure. ;_;
- So Happy had to lose so Sunny could transform. Now Happy and Sunny need to lose so Peace can transform. I wonder if this is going to continue all the way up to the last? :sd:

Pixiv as well. Current counts, taking into consideration the usual caveats about how horribly inconsistent Pixiv tagging is:
Kise Yayoi (黄瀬やよい) - 1521 [R-18: 154, 10%]
Hoshizora Miyuki (星空みゆき) - 659 [R-18: 34, 5%]
Hino Akane (日野あかね) - 480 [R-18: 54, 11%]
Midorikawa Nao (緑川なお) - 350 [R-18: 25, 7%]
Aoki Reika (青木れいか) - 244 [R-18: 20, 8%]
So well in excess of double the posts of anyone else. She used to have the highest percentage of 18+ images but I guess Akane is beating her there now. :sd: In any case, Peace seems like the clear favorite so far. But Nao and Reika haven't had their episodes yet.

For someone labeled as a crybaby, I actually expected the crying to be far more overdone. Not to say Yayoi never cried, but some shows like to take it to a much higher extreme than shown here.
Any chance, that Soga was swallowed by a dimensional rift and sent to another series?
Cure Peace is adorable. Both in terms of being "startled" by her own attack and the rock, paper, scissors thing.
+1 to Miyuki's harem! Err I mean +1 to the Precure count!

TV ratings
Ep# - Smile - Suite
1) 5.4% vs 6.0%
2) 5.6% vs 5.7%
3) 5.9% vs 5.1%
4) 6.1% vs 4.9%
I remember when ep 1 aired there were stories about how 5.4% was low for a PreCure opener, but it looks like it's just increased ep-on-ep since then while Suite fell quite a bit. Looks like Japan approves of Smile so far.

Now we get Precure number 4, Cure March. Nao's pretty fun, I liked how her hair kind of explodes during her transformation, her running to the wall was amusing and her finishing move is pretty impressive, even though it bears more than little resemblance to Sunny's attack two episodes ago.

Wow, Beauty not only has beauty, but she has brains too. Take that shows that like to bash characters for being attractive!
Hesitant to call Beauty the favorite, but she fills me with thoughts. And I'll leave it at that.
Oh, and she's "Ice/Snow" technically. So she's like the cold beauty!
You know what? This show needs an episode where the girls are each dressed up as a different Fairy Tale Princesses. To pass it up given the premise of the show would just be wrong.
Ok, maybe they don't have to be exactly Princesses. I'd accept a Red Riding Hood as much as I'd accept Snow White. Assuming they couldn't find a fitting Princess for everyone.

I'm partial to blue/water powers, but Yayoi/Cure Peace is still the best. Pika-pika-pikarin! Jan-ken-pon! I hope the jan-ken-pon gag after the transformation never stops. And her surprise when the lightning struck her hand to use her attack amused me.
I also like how all of them are clearly starting at level 1 and lack the MP reserves to use their special attacks more than once.

"They're the legendary warriors", Candy's answer to many questions. Well, this might explain why they were giving no explanation.
Miyuki feels the team needs a catchphrase. Nao and Akane aren't very supportive. However both Yayoi and Reika are. Although in Reika's case, her reasons are more based on err logical benefit than fun.
I really hope that book moving only works for select people, otherwise there is going to be a lot of accidental travels.
It's important to stay focused when traveling to the... PENGUIN!
So the Witch actually wanted the transformation prevented and even had them attacked after their speech.
Heh, Pop can transform into a creature and fight himself. I get the feeling he only has so many scrolls to work with.
You know what's sad? Every time the enemy makes a monster, they bring the Smile Cures one step closer to getting the decors they need. have they considered just not sending a monster in the first place?
Joker appears and there's NO WAY HE COULD POSSIBLY BE THE TRUE MAIN VILLAIN!
Well, even if he's not the main villain, I could easily see him trying for power himself.

Candy has a brother, Pop, who speaks like a samurai.
So with any bookshelf, you can go to this new world, and it will warp you to the nearest bookshelf that you want to go to. Handy... except that you have to concentrate where you want to go to otherwise you'll end up in the South Pole.
LOL at the end of the group catchphrase, they get hit with a can missle. That's just mean.
Also Joker gotta be the mid-boss of sorts.

Oh, looks like its movie preview OP time. Not much there, though the Yes5 team was looking pretty badass (which the Smile team...wasn't.)
And Tsubomi, congratulations, you are officially no longer the worst beginner Precure. Miyuki takes that award by a mile.
Pop was fairly amusing, and balances out Candy's uselessness.
Akane and Nao's reactions to the idea of a catchphrase were as expected, as was Yayoi's (albeit opposite theirs...) but didn't expect Reika to be all for it.

I am enjoying Smile more than Suite because of the comical approach.
It was funny that the girls where trying to figure out a group catchphrase and when they finally perform their group catchphrase they got blasted with a missile can.
I think the writers for Smile should take the show in a more satire direction with the magical girl genre.

If you ask me it's kind of a given that in some way he's stronger than the other three. It might not be through sheer power, but there are other ways. Such as manipulating things, etc.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Cure Peace didn't end the transformation scene with throwing a jan-ken-pon hand. ;_;
Ahaha. Rather than do something useful like, say, increasing their MP so they can use their special attacks more than once per battle, Miyuki decides they need to decide on their catchphrases and work on their group entry move. Nao and Akane are not impressed with Miyuki's priorities. Yayoi is thrilled. And your priorities can't be too bad if they're making Yayoi happy.
On a side note, I was amused last night when I stumbled upon the blog (http://d.hatena.ne.jp/watariwataru/20120302) of the author of a light novel series I decided to start buying a few days prior, and found that he started off his most recent post with jan-ken-pon and thanking Cure Peace for a peaceful year. He seems to be thanking her for smooth sailing with his novels, as the first novel's one year anniversary is tomorrow.
So anyway, I just thought it was another amusing thing pointing to Yayoi/Cure Peace's popularity in Japan.

I didn't even notice that she had an opinion on the issue one way or the other while I watching. Yayoi was beaming and then it seemed to gloss over Reika's reaction, so I was under the impression just didn't object (and really, who can object when Yayoi's face looks like that? If you think about it the other Precure groups took it for granted that they didn't have to search for a secret base.
Heartcatch Precure had the greenhouse from Tsubomi's Grandmother
Suite Precure had the old audition hall from Ako's Grandfather
The Mysterious Library seemed to be a obvious place to setup a secret base, but nature got the best of the Smile Precure Team.
The next scenes are a wild goose chase from Mount Fuji, Film Shoot, Toy Store, Zoo to a forest.
The Big Bad Wolf showed up and the typical fight occurs.
After redecorating the Smile Precure Team decided to choose the Mysterious Library as their secret base.

Team assembled!
Now they need to find a base of operations, since school and their homes aren't suitable to hide a talking doll and other such fun things.
Reika's idea is atop Mt Fuji. It's a whole lot of word puns.
Yayoi on the other hand pick out some sci-fi base. Pity it's already taken by some Tokusatsu filming crew.
Nao's is some toy house full of cute plushies. Sadly it's no more than a doll house in an apartment store.
Akane's just wild and I don't think staying with a Gorilla in the zoo is a better plan.
Finally Miyuki was going to some forest that was inspired from Anne of Green Gables. Again she was beaten to it by 2 little girls.
Bad guys show up, the girls get their butt whooped again (oh dear me, even the Yes girls weren't this bad), but the Akanbe got beated by a single shot of Miyuki's happy beam.
Figures that the best place for a secret base is the magic book world. With the magic decor, they converted a tree stump to Nut's House version 3.

Soul switching situations have been done in other forms of media, but at least this episode is funny.
It was never explained why Majorina created the soul-switching rings in the first place?
Was it to switch bodies with a Precure and spy on them? The motivation is weak here.
Candy turns Miyuki's school life upside down. Yayoi seems to be most embarrassed by the situation.
The monster of the week turns out to be very small riding horse which is the right size for Precure Candy to battle.

Aahahaha, oh god, we got to see Cure "Candy" complete with the transformation sequence. And Cure Candy's fight was actually pretty awesome.
This show has always had a good sense of humor and fun, but this episode was particularly funny. More than it should have been, given the premise of the episode.
Normally a body switch plot like this would annoy me with issues related to behavioral slip-ups, particularly with someone like Candy being put in a human body. But it actually worked really well here and the things that would normally bother me still happened (that's the entire source of the joke, after all) but weren't an issue.
The other girls' attempts to cover for Candy/"Miyuki" were actually just cute and funny, and not also cringe-inducing. I particularly liked Reika's attempt to justify "Miyuki's" work of art on the chalk board. "Um, it must symbolize fairy tails." And the whole time, Yayoi just kept hoping the whole thing was a horrible, horrible dream. <3 Yayoi
And somehow, the policebox scene with the witch was actually amusing. A scene in a PreCure series with just a villain and nameless NPC was actually worth a damn. I didn't know that was possible.

I don't know how popular April Fools is in Japan, but Yayoi should have stuck with a physical practical joke like a snake in a can.
The moral of the episode that lying is bad, but a better lesson is not to pull April Fools jokes on Miyuki.
As an April Fools Joke, Yayoi tells Miyuki that she is transferring to a different school. The joke backfires and Miyuki takes the lie out of hand and the whole class thinks Miyuki is transferring.
Yayoi being a shy person couldn't bring herself to tell the truth.
Overall this episode was a little on a bland side because it relied on Miyuki blowing the lie out of proportion and Yayoi not telling the truth.

- Mini-henshin! Jan-ken... I lose! I went scissors, she went rock. You take this round, Cure Peace!
- Hah I like the idea of Majorina just being stupid and not thinking to make a large Akanbee.
- Suddenly Akanbee jumps in side about 2000%. MOST INCONSISTENT ANIMATION EVER.
- Majorina is dumb. =D
That was so much fun, but I have to laugh at the "bugs are cute and just like us" message.

Err Candy going with them should be a given regardless. Unless Precure really thought that just because they'd be on a trip they wouldn't be harrassed.

Reika finally gets an episode focused on her (other than her intro episode) though it ends up being half her and half Candy. Candy yelling at the class for her and Reika covering it up was amusing.
So they'll be dealing with the special blue-nosed Akanbe for at least four more episodes. And they don't get Cure Decors for beating them. There was a notable discrepancy between how many Cure Decor their case could hold (20) and the number to fill the Bad Energy Clock, and this brings them more in line.
And we start getting hints of some larger plot beyond just reviving Pierre. Something about a Miracle Jewel.

Figures, Miyuki would choose a fairy tale character for someone to like. Even so, Peter Pan? Do we focus more on the fact he's an eternally young boy or how he is often played by a woman? From what I heard anyway....
The universe apparently hated Miyuki during this episode.
Hair down mode for Miyuki and Nao was nice to have.

Miyuki and Yayoi heads on top of the Tsūtenkaku tower to get a better view finding their friends.
Majorina is not happy that a store is sold out of a famous candy and turns the tower into a Akanbe.
Miyuki and Yayoi are trapped inside the tower!
All the girls transform, but they don't know how to get Cure Happy and Peace out from the tower.
Candy suggest using the Butterfly Decor and Cure Sunny, March and Beauty have butterfly wings.
Sunny and March seem to overcome their fear of heights but March is not comfortable with insects.

It was fun to see the Precure get to fly (well, some of them) in this episode, long before some final battle power up.

Today is a Mother's Day episode.
At Precure HQ, the girls are creating their own Mother's Day present when Miyuki realize she doesn't have one. (We also get to see Candy use the toy of week to make necklaces.)
Miyuki decides to help her mother out with the chores. Miyuki's mothers name is Ikuyo who looks a lot like her daughter.
Miyuki is still a clumsy girl and ends up messing up the house chores, but Ikuyo seem to have a patient and calm personality. (Though we still do not know Ikuyo does for a living)
Miyuki heads back to the HQ still not too sure what kind of gift to give to her mother when the toy of the week Candy is using comes into play. (Remember kids bug your parents to buy this toy for Mother's Day!)
The girls heads out to buy a Mother's Day card when Wolfurun shows up. The girls transform and fight. We get a red-nose Akanbe this time. The group fight is probably the best I have seen so far in the series.
With the bad guys defeated, Miyuki gives her necklace to her mother and all this well. (What happened to the Mother's Day card?!)
HitokiriShadow

Huh, this one was a red nose. I thought they had one or two more of those left. *checks* Yeah, I believe the villain received five blue noses, and the first one was in episode 12, so there should still be two more.
Anyway, the highlights of the episode were everyone struggling to think of something Miyuki was good at and Cure Peace finding a new way to shock herself while she attacks thus giving the animators a reason to give her new biribiri faces.

The girls (Miyuki, Akane, Yayoi and Nao) are a little down because they failed one test in a particular subject.
The only one who aces the tests is Reika who is a role model as student.
The girls then wonder why they need to study at all since they won't need them for their futures.
Reika then questions herself as to what she wants to do with her future because she took on these extracurricular activities because she was asked to.
Taking advice from her grandfaher, Reika takes some time off from these extracurricular activities to find herself.
Reika ends up spending time with each of the girls to find out what they do with their free time.
Meanwhile Joker tries to help out Akaoni by providing him stacks of books on the Precures, but Akaoni got bored. Akaoni gets the idea he would not have to study if just beat the Precures and heads off.
Miyuki, Akane, Yayoi and Nao ponders on Reika situation when Akaoni shows up to fight.
The girls transform and get ready for battle Akaoni pulls out a red-nose and creates a quiz book Akanbe.
The Akanbe ask questions that the girls cannot get and they get trapped. (There was a similar monster in Suit Precure!)
Maybe the girls should have asked Cure Blossom and Cure Moonlight for help.
Reika shows up and transforms to Cure Beauty and gets the all the questions correct and defeats the Akanbe.
(Remember it pays to study for your education - you never know if you need it to fight a quiz monster.)
Reika ends up telling the girls how studying can help them with their specific strengths.

..... Seriously Yayoi, how did you manage to get this far?
I was thinking they were mid to late grade school for some reason. I forgot that they are, in fact, all wearing school uniforms. Most of them just cover it up with sweaters and shirts. I think its also because I was thinking they were more in line with the age of the show's target audience, which I was under the impression was a bit younger than that. We saw Yayoi with her mother back in the April Fool's joke episode, but nothing was said about her father. It turns out her father passed away when she was five. So she spends the episode trying to remember a conversation she had with him all those years ago. And its incredibly touching.
And this was the most action-y Akanbe fight in a while. The Precure really got smacked around in this one. And Cure Peace's expression when the lightning hit her hand has changed. Agreed. Joker impressed me as a Precure villain. Honestly, Smile has turned out to have exceeded my expectations, and this episode just kind of blew me away. The part where the Cures were trying to decided on wither they wanted to continue fighting was thoughtful and well done. The scene it self had twinges of Madoka Magica to it. - This whole scene is incredible. Since when do magical girls not written by Urobuchi Gen ever have to seriously stop and think about whether they should continue to fight?
- I also love the lack of music as the girls walk away from the gazebo thing.
- Seriously this is awesome. Precure seriously, even somewhat morbidly reflecting on their own mortality. Wtf. Why is this show so good?
- And of course, in the end, they'll fight. GO GO SMILE PRECURE! <3 <3

Holy shit. There are Precure series that have end-of-series battles that aren't that awesome. In fact, I think one just ended. *cough*
Anyway, that was goddamn amazing on every level. Seriously. Love the Princess forms, especially Akane's. Damn girl, leave the hair down from now on.
In the individual battles, March and Beauty put on the best showing by far, and certainly had the hardest opponents.
So anyway, now what?

"ZETTAI NIGENAI!! ;_;" <3 <3 I love you Cure Peace!!
OMG OMG OMG THAT WAS AWESOME.
The fights kicked massives amounts of ass, and Marche and Beauty had particularly impressive finishes. The big bad comes out and the first thing he does is say "fuck this, I'm ending this NOW", not overconfident dicking around, and fires a Bad Energy Beam of world destroying power and size. Then the Precure get a very nice looking upgrade in the Princess form and instantly (again, no dicking around) use their new finishing move, and its pretty awesome. Soooooooo much better than everyone jumping in a giant flaming RingPop.
And, uh, villains defeated? I mean, obviously at least one of them isn't down for the count, but man, that sure felt like a final battle, and a damn good one at that. Hell, that was vastly better than the (too long) final battle in Suite. Actually, Suite just looks increasingly bad the longer this show goes.

Ah, so that's the real reason we had four Bad End Generals!
Over all a nice episode, but the not-final battle was kind of odd. Not just because we're around the half-way point, but because of the behavior of our main villain.
It almost felt more like he was going through the motions than anything else. Hi, I'm evil and going to destroy everything. Either he's acting out a role or he's really impatient and just wants to get things over with.
I wonder if we'll get to see the Princess forms again and I mean before the actual final battle.

- Heh they all pair off and little Yayoi gets big Akaoni.
- Uhh meanwhile Majorina sheds 60 years, and gaint 4 feet and lots of boobs.
- Whee fighting. ANd Joker is trying really hard to be Hisoka.
- So there's really no logic to why Wolfrun and Akaoni are so strong now. Majorina at least has a form she hasn't revealed before, and Joker was always strong. But those other two were wimps.
- This looks like level-up time!
- Ah, it's "use your sceens from the OP" power.
- Hahah, Nao is like "screw accuracy, it's danmaku time".
- Okay so they beat the goons without an obvious level up. Buuuuuut I've seen the new costumes a hundred times now so it should be coming by the end of the ep.
- Ah there we go.
- Uhhhh hm. I'm not sold on these costumes yet. They just look too bulky. And Akane's hair doesn't look quite right. I'd need to see these forms with less explosions and pegasi flying all around.
Anyway, good ep. Some of the fighting was pretty epic.

The last episode was predictable -- the girls supercharged their powers and killed off Pierrot.
There was high price to be paid as the girls could not see the fairies anymore, but Candy managed to come back at the end.
Overall, Smile Precure had more likable main characters than Suite Precure, but the ideas and themes were recycled from past Precure Seasons (Precure 5 and Heartcatch Precure).
Smile Precure could have done better if the fairy-tale themes were explored better. It would have been cool it see the girls fought weekly storybook monsters like jack in the beanstalk, or Alice in Wonderland instead of common day items.
Compared Heartcatch and Suite Final Bosses, Pierrot was really one dimensional that kept repeating the same lines and doing nothing else.
Smile Precure had the second best ultimate group attack with Rainbow Burst in the Precure Cure franchise. First place is still with Heartcatch Orchestra with Heartcatch Precure.
Starting from Strongest to Weakest this is how I rate the characters:
Cure Peace: Kise Yayoi was the top favourite character in the series. Her character was explored the most in the series from her origins of name to her love of anime and manga. Yayoi was the most interesting characters as each week the audience had to guess if she would for rock, paper, or scissors.
Cure Sunny: Hino Akane comes close to Kise Yayoi as a favourite character. She has a hot-blooded Osakan personality. Akane was even lucky enough to have real-life comedy duo Fujiwara appear on the show. Though Hino Akane will probably going to be compared as a carbon copy to Natsuki Rin in terms of firepower and sports hobby.
Cure Beauty: Aoki Reika comes in the distance third. The majority of her episode deals with Reika following her path and situations testing her resolve whether or not she would stray from her path. Personality wise Aoki Reika reminds me of Minazuki Karen.
Cure March: Was it really necessary to have a second sports Precure? Midorikawa Nao got the end of stick as she was presented as a sports playing girl with 6 younger brother and sister (Unusual for a Japanese family). Nao personality was not explored more in the series.
Cure Happy: The weakest of the team in terms of character development. Hoshizora Miyuki is somehow the default leader of the group, but lacking in leadership qualities. Miyuki is only presented as a girl who loves fairy tale storybooks.

That was a pretty cute final episode, and was what I expected. While nothing groundbreaking, it wasn't unenjoyable, and it kept with the spirit and tone of this series.
All in all, Smile was really enjoyable. The characters and the off-beat humor really made this one stand out. It wasn't as serious as SplashStar, Heartcatch, or Fresh, but this was a pretty good comic relief series. Other long running series, like Digimon and the Brave shows typically cycle through tones like that, so I'm used to the shifting silly - dark tone.
I enjoyed Smile for what it was. I liked Suite and enjoyed it, but I think that Smile wound up being able to pace itself better, while also balancing some personal growth moments from the Cures that could be taken seriously. Sadly what hurt Suite the most was trying to repeat the "Cure Passion" stunt from Fresh over again. Too much time was wasted on some meaningless teasing to generate ratings and interest. The thing that Suite did right, and was carried over into Smile, was focusing the episodes on the Cures and not some random passerby (admittedly Fresh did this first though).
I think in the end though, Smile was a well made series with great pacing a a good balance of humor and plot. I'm honestly going to miss it.

So it became apparent that we were getting an episode per girl here, so let's do them all in one go:
Episode 40, Akane: Almost painfully feel good, but Akane is badass.
Episode 41, Yayoi: HELL YEAH PEACE THUNDER HURICANE. God damn Yayoi was amazing. That totally outdid the Akane episode for me.
Episode 42, Nao: ...Fucking wow. Peace still had the most badass scenes of these character-by-character episodes so far but this episode was absolutely the best so far. My god. That was incredible. Nao's look of utter, bottomless, infinite despair. And then Nao crying in Miyuki's arms at the end. So many tears. Just a goddamned outstanding episode.
Episode 43, Reika: Not as OH THE EMOTIONS as Nao's episode but just as badass as Yayoi's, and better overall in story structure. Reika also comes closest to soloing, and up against by far the strongest of the villains too. Plus that sword fight was pretty damn epic.
Episode 44, Miyuki: To be perfectly honest I expected Miyuki's episode to be well below the level of the others, but the backstory about her magical/imaginary friend was really cute. The "everyone saves the focus character" bit felt a but sloppy with her though, seeing as how she was totally wiping the floor with Wolfrun and didn't need it, until all of a sudden she did..
In the end I'd rank these episodes: Nao > Reika > Yayoi > Miyuki > Akane. Nao's was just waaaaaaaay too awesome, while Reika got to show off why she's the strongest Precure. And Yayoi is just Yayoi, seeing her act badass is doubly awesome because of how she usually acts.

Episode 45:
- Wolfrun this is, what, your twelvth final chance?
- Full team fight! Precures, why bother with your entry level attacks? :sd: Still, pretty cool.
- Yay, Princess form loses! I never liked the Princess form designs much, so this is good, because now they have to level up to something better.
- Somehow I don't think I'm going to care about the villains' sob story.
- Oh god this is a stupid development. >_>
- Really really stupid. >_>
- No, Miyuki. Do not hug the evil out of them. No.
- She just hugged the evil out of them. >_>
Well that episode ended up being sort of terrible. Is making the villains at least as good as the Heartcatch ones really so hard? The concept behind these being fairies who were consumed with negative energy by playing the villain roles in fairy tales isn't terrible but the execution of their "redemption" was plain shit.
But whatever YAY BAD END PRECURE. Now that I've seen like 5000 pieces of fanart of them.

Episode 46:
- ...Bad End Happy is awesome. I love how Fukuen Misato is voicing her.
- So is Bad End Peace. What a troll.
- Haha oh wow Joker, that laugh.
- I like to imagine that the seiyuu arguing with themselves in these opposing roles looked something like that Gollum scene in LotR.
- Goddamn Fukuen Misato has some lungs on her.
- looooool Joker
That was pretty great. But I'll miss Bad End Precure. ;_;

Episode 47:
- lol Royal Candy. That hair.
- Fuck yeah the initial battle against the cannon fodder was awesome.
- Man that eyecatch music has never been so inappropriate.
- BWhahaa, Pierrot is busy gloating and Miyuki is all like "STFU LASER BEAM!"
- Hahah HOLY SHIT, they just fucked him up in the face.
- Speaking of faces.
Well that was great.

Episode 48:
- A giant hand isn't the most exciting opponent but um wow he just obliterated a large chunk of the earth's surface.
- ...Things are looking a bit grim.
- This sure is a lot of crying.
- Still crying.
- And yet more crying.
- That was literally five minutes of crying, holy crap we get the point.
- HAHAHA oh man I literally cackled out loud when COSMIC HAPPY appeared. And then hugged the villain to death. Again. >_>
- Now time for goodbyes. But hopefully not much more crying.
- ...well less than five minutes at least.
- Decent epilogue, and of course Candy comes back.
What I wouldn't have given for an extra half episode or so of Bad End Precures so they didn't have to pad this episode out so much.
Still, good show, with some truly epic moments. The vast majority of it from the individual character episodes onwards was really damn good.

Its pretty hilarious how this finale was effectively identical to the end of DX3, only in that case it was twenty-one Cures and something like 15 mascots crying.

15 mascots crying.
I am pretty sure my brain cells would spontaneously self-destruct if I had seen that.

The only good part was when Kurumi/Milky Rose turns back into her mascot form and leaps into Karen's boobs.

Also admittedly in DX3 the final boss wasn't hugged to death (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtzOarkRkTI)

Man Heartcatch is OP.
Also, Nagisa and Honoka must have some anti-aging magic going on, because in another few series they're going to be old enough to be new Precures' mothers.

So OP. Though Splash Star's been getting shafted since apparently Kaoru and Michiru aren't ~real~ Precure, so they can't use Precure Spiral Heart Splash Star, WHICH RESET THE FUCKING UNIVERSE.

It kills me so hard that we'll never get any OVAs or something using the older cures.
