I'm not really sure to ask this but since this forum is dedicated to Region 2 DVDs, I'd thought this would be ok. I need help on locating where to get a Region 2 DVD player or a region free dvd player to play the Region 2 anime dvds. Some places like amazon or Yes asia sell them but I'm not sure if I can trust those, does anyone here know where I could get either one?

Just get a cheap DVD player. Most DVD players have a region unlock code where you can change the region to whatever region you want. Just search "[the make of your DVD player or a DVD player you plan to buy] region unlock code" into google and it should show up somewhere.
I'd assume this is for older anime DVD's or those cheap boxes Geneon Universal and Bandai are releasing? Because if it's for recent (or upcoming) releases I'd suggest you get on the Blu-ray bus.

I looked over those unlock codes but they seem like alot to understand, I was hoping to find one out of the box without doing all that,
though I have another question, would buying a Japanese PS3 help play Japanese DVDs? I know the blu-rays are region free and the games but not sure about regular Japanese DVDs on a Japanese PS3.

Can you play DVDs through your computer out to a TV (or just watch o your computer, but I assume you want to watch on a TV). DVD drives can be set to a given region code and there's any number of players that will ignore region coding. Or something like AnyDVD.

Program that gets rid of annoying playback restrictions like region coding and such. But probably overkill for what you need, and is only useful if you're playing through a PC.
But really, region free DVD players aren't rare, just grab one that's within your budget.

As far as I know blu-ray players cannot be similarly unlocked. Does this mean I will have to import a region A player? I am assuming the blu-ray drivers/writers one can buy for PCs and laptops are locked as well. I have never seen a region free blu-ray player.

If you're importing JP anime BDs, most are region free anyway. (I think? Never really had to check.) As for PC BD drives, I've always had AnyDVDHD which bypasses that so I am able to play BDs on my PC fine.

Correct. Region locked anime BDs are almost non-existent.

As far as BD playback on computers are concerned, there's also BDRegionTray, which is a simple program that allows you to change the BD region setting on your player for an infinite amount of times because every change resets the allowed number of changes back to 5.

There are a few that can be made region free or are region free (but I don't think any of them are available now), but there are a few toshiba BD players out there that with a simple firmware update will give you access to the DVD and BD region settings (but you have to change the BD settings each time you run a disc that is locked to one region since there is no region free setting on the BD side of things).

One that I know of, the BDX-1200 after installing Australian firmware, however I don't believe it works for the US version, only the UK and EU ones. If you're importing, you might as well just go for the Australian version anyway.

I went that route after all, got me a BDX3200. Wasn't cheap but not very costly either, firmware works as it should with Disappearance. It's my first BD player, at least now I can import from wherever I want.
