Tears to Tiara

I recently bought the Tears to Tiara DVDs cause they were cheap and I needed to get to $49, but then I had second thoughts about it, so I was wondering if I should actually watch it or try to sell it.

I think I remember hearing somewhere that it was similar to Utawarerumono. Is this true? I like Utawarerumono...

Also, do the DVDs have any issues and would the Blu rays be a significant upgrade?

Also, any general opinions about the show (good/bad)?

If you are interested in this show, I say try it out first before deciding. You can check it out on The Anime Network (http://www.theanimenetwork.com/Anime/Tears-to-Tiara/Info). As for my thoughts about it, it is pretty much a mixed bag for me. The show starts off really slow, but once the main storyline gets established, it becomes a pretty good show to watch. Although it is not as bad as many anime adaptations of VGs, it definitely feels like another bad anime adaptation of a VG. While you can draw similarities to Utawarerumono, there is one critical difference in that the character development does not really go as deep as it does in UWM. And also, TTT is more of a journey while UWM is more about uniting lands.

According to the review on ANN, the BD is not really a significant upgrade. So that's what I have to say about this series.

I really like Utawarerumono and I like Tears To Tiara just a bit more. They are currently numbers 17 and 16 respectively on my list of 25 favorite shows (Check my sig if you want to see the rest for comparison).

I did not know anything about either of these before I watched the anime and I had seen Utawarerumono two or three times before I saw Tears To Tiara. Before I was halfway through Tears To Tiara I was thinking "Wow, this is a lot like Utawarerumono."
The similarities are in the structure of the show, the types of characters, and the general story.
In my opinion they are similar enough that if you like Utawarerumono you will probably like Tears To Tiara, but they are not similar enough to give you that "haven't I seen this before?" feeling.

I had the original DVD's and did not have any problems with them.
I later bought the Blu-ray to get the dub. I do think that the Blu-ray looks noticeably better, but I never did a side by side comparison.
