Another zombie anime, because I guess KoreZom wasn't enough. From what I gather, this time the girl is the zombie though.

This show's tone is strange. Almost as strange as Chihiro himself. The Zombie obsession, fine. But trying to revive your dead cat as a zombie? Thats...not normal.
Rea is very cute, her seiyuu Uchida Maaya (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=94314) has done absolutely nothing of note, but I like her vouce. Her "mou mou" sounds especially are very unique.
As for the ending...ok...?

So. High school Rom-com.... with a zombie fetish. As in, the main male actually has a fetish for zombies. Yeah. Zombies are generally more of a turn-off than a turn on, but zombie romance is at least something new, unique and potentially interesting.
Mero is cute and decently amusing. I'm hoping she gets a decent amount of time.
Wanko is a lot of fun. I expect good things from her. "I'll abandon my customers any time!"
Rea.... hmmmmm. I'll need to wait until next episode to figure out how I feel about her. She's cute, but for most of her appearance in this episode, she was a bit excessively.... passive, I guess. She seemed to be a "pure girl" type, and the situation that led her to meeting Chihiro and him being a borderline asshole left her being, well, very passive for the most part. She showed some sides of a hidden, more assertive side at the end though, so I'm hoping she'll be more interesting in future episodes.
And her seiyuu is... uh, Uchida Maaya. Who was Mari in YuryuYuri and.... that's about it. 'Tis the season for putting "new", essentially unknown seiyuu in starring roles, apparently.

The kid lost his pet cat & decided to resurrect it.
His efforts were admirable, but with that sort of thing stuff always goes wrong.
Kinda reminded me of Occult Academy on some level.
Rea's unfortunate family situation lead her to become a test subject by chance LOL
This has potential. Will be watching it.

I loved the Shaun of the Dead reference in the beginning when Chihiro was thinking about a moe zombie. I wonder what other zombie movie references are going to show up if any.
Sanka Rea sure is cute. The two together in the abandoned building was fun to watch.
Almost as strange as Chihiro himself. The Zombie obsession, fine. But trying to revive your dead cat as a zombie? Thats...not normal.
His zombie obsession, I think, has went too far even before wanting to revive the cat.

Episode 1:
- Whelp, I love blue haired girl in the OP. Just from one scene.
- >_> Zombie fetish. A romantic fetish.
- Mero! And she's his sister! Yay, give her lots of time please.
- Ah she's Iguchi Yuka.
- Grandpa already looks like a zombie. >_>
- Crying Mero. ;_;
- Heh. Mero sleeps in ghost cosplay?
- Enter the doomed childhood friend character. Yahagi Sayuri~
- Ah, cousin. Well, pretty much the same exact dynamic.
- Hahaha, ummmmm. Rea's well confessions just took a weird turn.
- Damn she's pretty.
- And that cleavage...
- Ummm, I knew she was the zombie and all but wtf is going on, did she kill herself? Ewww, intestines. Well, there's a good chance she's trolling him, but I don't think so by the ending dialogue. Preview gives some hints, but I'll just wait until ep 2 before speculating more.

-Why is the sexy girl who stands on things from Nise in the OP on a table?
-Zombie... sexual... Dude just got screw a goth girl.
-Grandpa has stopped living and become a crazy mixed up thing.
-Aww cute kitty.
-Mom is dead... oh don't tell me you want to resurrect and bone her you freak.
-BOB! NOOO!
-I take it this kid never saw Pet Cemetary.
-Zombie, which one? There's like six of the damn things.
-A boy with cat ears and a girl named Wanko. Wan~
-Ah cousin. That explains disinterest in bosoms.
-A relationship started by a confession of child pornography is a new one to me.
-Bo- b- boob~
-Dream? Reality? Prank? Preview? Well whatever, for Chihiro it's porn.
Chihiro is insane. Mero is a cute ghost. Sanka is naive enough to commit suicide... maybe. I just hope Bob the kitten is fine when he comes back as the living dead.

Furuya & Rea working on the zombie potion..
Her dad is a total perv, looks like she has a family of weirdos.
Guess he really loved his cat since he was willing to go that far.
Poor Rea, don't think anyone would envy her life..
OMG, the potion thing really worked!! Cool!
Just.. Babu seemed kinda demonic though ^^"

Jesus. Rea's dad. Wow. Fuck him.
This show...is very melancholy. Also very interesting directoral decisions at a few points. Almost felt Shinboesque.
And then Rea was a Zombie. Maybe.

-Maids get "fired" and animals "disappear" around Rea.
-Rea's mom is a cranky drunk?
-Picture time... ;_;
-I don't think resurrection works the way you think it does Rea.
-Rea can't have nice things.
-This episode better end with someone eating Rea's dad's intestines.
-"Hold this girl who wants to be a zombie while I look away from your naive ass." >_<
-Well she didn't chug it immediately. I guess she has half a brain.
-Helloooo cousin sexy.
-Super Bob!
-To sleep perchance to eat braaaaainz.
And then Rea was a Zombie. Maybe.
Nope she's dead now. The rest of the show will be from the perspective of her in hell.
I think I'm dropping this show. Except for Wanko, I just feel sorry for the cast or want to see them die. Well Rea's milfy mom looks okay but she hasn't done anything. Since kitten Bob walking among the living again, I don't really have anything that makes me want to see more. I'll just picture him and a horde of zombie maids destroying the Sanka mansion and everyone inside.

Rea's father better have some very bad things for him. And no redemption. Fuuuuuuuuck redemption. We probably won't be lucky enough to see him die, but I can hope.
This was a much better episode for Rea to make an impression on me though. She's much more likable here, for a variety of reasons. A big part was simply not spending virtually all of her screentime asking Mahiro to not reveal her secret. She got to take an active roll in things and be fun and cute doing it. Being able to get inside her head a bit helps too.
Rea has some very interesting reactions to watching her first zombie movies. She seems to have no concept of zombies at all, and her reaction to seeing zombies eat a nurse ranges from dispassionate observation to almost delighted interest as the zombies apparently relieve the nurse of the weight of her internal organs.
And, uh, is it just me, or is Rea's resistance to eating Babu-chan seem to be entirely becuase its Mahiro's beloved Babu-chan, rather than that she's being asked to eat a dead cat?

Something about how she said it and behaved as she said it. I guess it seemed to me like she acted and said the line the same way she would refuse an offer to borrow something precious from a friend rather than refusing to eat a dead cat. Basically, nothing in her reaction suggested the slightest bit of surprise or disgust at the idea of what was just suggested to her.
But then, see her reaction to watching the zombie movie. I think she's just a little off in general when interacting with people on such a friendly, normal level. She normally keeps people at a distance, doesn't get any sort of normal human interaction at home, and operates with a higher level mask than most people do, so these things are probably signs of her awkwardness in interacting with others in a normal way.

Commie (good thing I already had it on hand) translates it as "Or are you going to give it a taste?"
That said, she actually did initially react more like I would expect someone to react to that kind of suggestion. Which is to say, she was rather taken aback. I have no idea how *I* missed that.
Commie translates her follow up lines a bit differently, and I might not have gotten quite the same impression from Commie's version. Both seem like fair translations of what she was saying (her dialogue there is pretty simple, so I can more or less understand it). I'm not sure if I'm reading too much into it or not. She freaks out, says she can't possibly do that.... and then basically says she can't do such a thing to Babu ("Babu wa souna!" with "souna" being one of those very, very context dependent things for how you translate it, so you can get very different translations of some lines involving it.). So.... yeah, interpret that as you like.

You see, I thought they were talking about the medicine, which is what he originally offered to have her test for him.
I have no idea how/why he would suggest that she eat Babu.
Here are the lines immediately preceding it.
(talks about being out of ideas for the potion)
Rea: Then what will happen to Babu?
Mahiro: Hmmm, I guess I'll bury him.
Rea: Eeeee!?
Mahiro: It's been five days, you know. ... Or are you going to give it a taste?
Rea: Iyaa! What a horrible idea! Babu... I...
Mahiro: She doesn't get my jokes at all.Hmmmmm, honestly, I'm not sure which one's talking about. The thing is, while "it" in the translated line would suggest he's talking about the medicine as he would say "him" if he was talking about Babu.... this is where the inherent differences in the languages and how we talk become an issue. I can't tell exactly what he's saying here, but it doesn't sound like he actually says anything in Japanese for what he's telling her to consume. Since they were talking about Babu at this point, it seems most likely that that's what he was referring to.
On the other hand, they had been talking about the medicine just a few lines before that, so it doesn't seem entirely impossible that he was referring to that. But it does seem unlikely based on what specifically about the medicine they were talking about. It doesn't seem to lend itself well to letting him talk about it like that without specifying that he was talking about the medicine. But sine I'm far from fluent, I'm can hardly say that with any authority.
Oh, and as for why? Because he likes to tease her about things. See the last line I posted above

Ha, yeah, I really liked that. Didn't really notice it on my first watch, but definitely did the next ~10 ten times. The cutest part is that its in response to his idea to do the completely normal thing you're supposed to do with a dead pet. Well, other than waiting five days to do it.

- Rea's naivete with zombies is cute. "This man is eating his friend!"
- Panchira.. save!
- Whelp. Rea's family sucks.
- Um. How exactly is a small dead cat fitting that large cup of goo inside itself? Timex like 5 or 6. Anatomy doesn't work that way.
- God Rea is adorable. Stil wondering how we get from this to the end of ep 1 though.
- Oh right they need to meet once more for the burial. And I'm still waiting for Babu to start meowing.

So after almost three entire episodes, Rea finally becomes a zombie. I like that the show took its time to build up to it, but I'm surprised. This is the kind of basic plot element that stories usually try to get to by the end of the first episode/chapter.
A shame Rea didn't take her father with her on her tumble down though.
Now that Rea is a zombie, hopefully the show will focus less on Rea's horrible family issues and more on "WTF, my girlfriend is a zombie" and have some (morbid) fun with that. Which will also hopefully allow for more Mero. At least she had a bit more screentime here than in episode 2.

-Opening song is too cheerful for a show where a girl commits suicide by zombie potion. And it reminds me of molestation again.
-Even her suicide is filled with horrible imagery.
-Stay out of the sunlight Rea. You'll turn into beef jerky.
-If you are going to go creepy on me anime atleast go all the way and make this some horrible porn. A girl saying she deserved being hit then being fondeled by her father is just annoying the hell out of me.
-Castrate? Okay maybe you are going down the perverse exploitation route anime.
-Hooray Bob's alive~ Oh shit now he's going to be biting people and starting the apocolypse. Our protagonist never considers consequences.
-Sexy drunken nopan milf! Just murder your husband already lady.
-You discovered Secret Entrance. *fanfare*
-Protagonists friends are a cute couple.
-That was an odd conversation.
-Father! Cliff! This is your chance to pay back the bastard.
-Bob! To action! Go commit murder.
-No. Bad anime. Wrong murder. Also did a rock just tear her vagina in half?
-Don't looks so sad Furuya. Now your sick sadistic necrophilic dream can come true.
-Bob indeed little kitty. Bob.
Okay NOW Rea's dead. Show's over. Move along. Nothing to see hear.
The tone of this show is just so uneven it ends up being flat. It needs to go further into zombie exploitation, body horror, dirty family secrets or something. Those unusual dark elements just end up all muddied when mixed up in there with normal school life junk and a budding boring romance. If this show was darker or lighter I could be invested in the story. As it is it took three episodes to cover the first act of a sub-par horror story. Only it doesn't look like Rea's going to be craving human flesh, be kept in a basement, be begging to die, or eat pedophillic papa's face off. I just don't give a crap about any of the characters. Bob's cute and Rea's mom is hot, but that's not enough to make me want to see more.

- Rea's dad is such a little shit.
- Mero!!!!!!!
- Hahah, way to not think ahead, Chihiro. You love zombies and never considered that a zombie cat might make other people zombies.
- Suddenly panties!
- Wanko's boobs are not gonna fit through there.
- Ergh, just looking at her stuck in there makes me feel claustrophobic. Those scenes usually don't but something about this one was disturbing. It's so dark...
- Hahah, Rea trying to explain why she was asking for Chihiro XD
- And then caught by her fucking creep father.
- BABU-CHAN TO THE RESCUE! I think.
- Ouch. I knew that bit of tree they showed before would be what did her in.
- But it isn't happening like the end of ep 1. But of weird misdirection there I guess.
- The censorship is pretty sloppy but it's not like I want to see her intestines hanging out so uh, I can't complain.
And now he's a zombie, finally! No idea where we go from here. Maybe dad disowns her and she moves in with Chihiro or something. I don't want him to get off easy though. Can't she eat his brains?

She was awesome the entire episode. She sewed her own wounds up! And she seems to have almost no nudity taboo.
Her slurred speech was also great.
And it seems Wanko's got a cute kouhai with a crush...
I wish they'd stick with one direction. Either do drama with some comedy or comedy with some drama not try to do both. The elements are too even and ones getting in the way of the other. The whole pedo dad thing just doesn't belong in a comedy IMO (you know he's coming after catboy, but why couldn't they have just killed him off). Rea is well done but catboy and his friends just don't work for me. The concept of having to die to be able to experience life is a good one. I just wish it was done better. Rea takes dying and becoming a zombie really well. She doesn't really care at all. She even sews up the foot long gash in her stomach like she was just mending her skirt. Rea sounded drunk there at the end, and her voice was absolutely adorable.
But it turns out there are some complications that come with being a corpse. I'm assuming that's why Babu went and ate those flowers. I imagine she'll need to consume them on a regular basis.
And oh, hey, some cute maids. They seem fun. So how long until Rea's father has them murdered because they say the wrong thing?

- ...Is she going to kiss him or eat his brains? =D
- "I hope it's okay for zombies to take showers." XD She looks wonderful naked. Very wonderful.
- Boob exercises! ...What is wrong with your brain, Rea?
- ...My god. Rea may be hotter than Yuuko, in the batrle of hot dead girls this season. The way she just lounges around naked is sooooooooooooooooo... ...we are just not worthy.
- Rigor mortis? No! She must be undead forever, not dead dead! Make more elixir! Or I guess she just needs to eat hydrangea leaves.
I really really wish dad had died. I'd love for this show to just be the adventures of Chihiro and his hot dead girlfriend and gang of friends, but instead there's gonna be plot and shit involving Rea's dad trying to destroy Chihiro and stuff. Boo. Still a fantastic episode though.

- This episode likes Ranko's feet.
- o_O Rea on top of the display case. Creepy. Creepy hot.
- Um. ...Rea is really into both Ranko's boobs and kissing Chihiro. This means she's...?

Man, this show.
They finally figure out the Hydrangea Leaf aspect, and Rea returns to...well, not "normal", but at least "no longer crazy". Wanko...gets very tsun-tsun over it all.
And she was definitely a bit TOO into licking that wound of his...

Wanko is one smart girl, to an extent ^^"
Babu was smarter than Wanko & Furuya combined.
Well, as long as there are those leaves, everything should be fine.
Furuya's grandpa finally shared some valuable info.
Seems like Rea will be officially staying with them from now on.
The night walk was nice, kinda romantic too ^^

So now Rea can openly live in Chihiro's home, though they somehow managed to keep the zombie part secret from Mero and their dad.
I think the episode pretty much confirmed that Grandpa is a zombie.
While the leaves restore Rea's sanity, it looks like they don't quite remove her taste for flesh. She was clearly enjoying "sterilizing" Chihiro's wound at the end.

Sanka is so hhhnnngggg. Too many cute "ehhh!?" moments in the episode. So adorable.
Sanka has been without pantsu the whole time while with Chihiro. You would think he would mention wearing a skirt while taking a walk might not be the best unless zombie Sanka likes to go commando. I personally have no problems with that. Maybe Chihiro doesn't too.
I do like the Shaun of the Dead reference every time they show Chihiro in his fantasy world.
Chihiro is right - what to do during winter when hydrangea leaves aren't available. I would think he should start harvesting the leaves and keep a supply over winter for her to eat.
I think the episode pretty much confirmed that Grandpa is a zombie.
Yup. I originally thought eating the leaves of the hydrangea plant was part of causing his dementia. But, I decided to look up the poisonous effects of eating the leaves and doesn't mention anything about causing neurological problems.
Funny enough though, the plant is poisonous to cats according to ASPCA. Babu finally gets to enjoy eating it as a zombie.

Ranko kinda reminded me a little of Ohana from Hanasaku Iroha.
So she and Furuya were childhood friends...
The flashbacks to their childhood days was nice to watch.
The failed kiss attack made her even more determined to win over Rea.
This was a pretty uneventful episode.

Even though Wanko is a pretty fun character, no Sanka this week made me sad.
So, we had to have backstory on her and Chihiro and how she feels even though the viewer should probably know how she feels after watching the first six. Backstory is fine, but this one really didn't do much.
Next episode looks more exciting.

Well, I would say it's good we got a full episode to explain why the childhood friend likes the guy, but this episode just makes it even harder to understand why Ranko would like him. :sd: Jeeze, want to get a girl in anime, just 1) find her while she's lost and 2) protect her from a dog. Even if your girlfriend is a zombie, even if it truly is "for research" (though Chihiro is clearly more interested in it for other reasons), constantly video taping your (not-quite?-)girlfriend is really fucking creepy.
More of Mero and her friends please.
Then we get an unholy combination of the obnoxious friend and the supremely irritating "plot" stuff with Rea's father that the show should have ditched after Rea became a zombie. :(

Yay for Rea this week! She is just so cute. The dress she bought looked perfect on her with the combination of the thigh highs.
Furuya's constant filming definitely is on the creepy side. err...
Then we get an unholy combination of the obnoxious friend and the supremely irritating "plot" stuff with Rea's father that the show should have ditched after Rea became a zombie. :(
I'd like to have more romantic comedy with the two main characters, but the whole Rea father thing seemed unresolved after she became a zombie considering how attached he is to his daughter. I'm not entirely surprised it's still there. Furuya will probably do something or talk to Rea's father and all will be good. If not, either the show ir or the father becomes a recurring villain of sorts. I'd rather have the show just get it over with. Furuya shows he can take care of Rea and we move on.
Judging from the next episode preview, that might not happen, and instead we get a Mero episode. I have no complaints though. But, then that only leaves, what? three, maybe four, episodes before the show ends.

Some thoughts on this episode vs. Ranko's episode.
Part of the problem with the Ranko episode was that it just wasn't very good. It ditched most of what was actually interesting (so to speak) about Ranko, and tried to make us actually give a crap about her wanting to be with Chihiro, and the foundation just wasn't there.
This episode worked on Mero's established character, and built more on top of it. Ranko's episode just further explained a status-quo we were already quite clear on.
