アクセル・ワールド

The show with the most "light novel for teenage boys"-sounding synopsis ever: "One autumn day in 2046, Haruyuki has an encounter with Kuroyukihime, the prettiest girl in his school. For the middle school boy who is often bullied, the meeting changes his life. Through a mysterious piece of software from her, Haruyuki learns of the existence of the virtual Accel World. In that moment, the lowest of the "school caste" becomes "Burst Linker", a knight defending a princess."

Airs Saturday, April 7 at 00:30 JST on Tokyo MX

Animation studio: Sunrise

Haha, Toyosaki Aki is a childhood friend... that part-times as a catgirl. :3 Awesome.

Then there's Kuroyukihime. That scene with her in the lunchroom was amazing. I think I'm in love already.

And her seiyuu is .... Misawa Sachika? Huh. Not completely new but she's only done 3-4 other shows (depending on how you count) since she started three years ago and her most significant character is one of the fairies from Yumeiro Pastiere.

For moment there I thought it was going to turn out that "reality" was actually also an illusion and the world is really a post-apocalyptic wasteland or something. But I guess this works too.

Very nice first episode. And I don't have to wait for the second one! Yay for double-episode airings. I just hope I won't have to wait two weeks for the third because the regular airing only does one at a time, but I fear that's probably what will happen.

Middle schooler? I just assumed they were in high school.

Haruyuki has some pretty serious self-esteem issues, which isn't surprising. He's certainly a bit more interesting than the typical generic male lead/hero and he's definitely coming across better than most. Even his self-pitying wasn't horribly obnoxious, just mildly annoying and it was sufficiently justified by his character and circumstances. It's amazing what a show can do when it treats its male lead as an actual character rather than just a cardboard cutout/audience stand-in that just needs to say the expected lines and go through the paces.

Then there's Kuroyukihime. We get some hints at her issues and the show is establishing a potentially interesting relationship if they develop it and handle it properly. Haruyuki sees her as a savior and while while he doesn't tell her in so many words, he makes it clear to her that she's on a pedestal in her actions. She considers it a rejection. She makes a point of telling him (and their audience) of this. There is some potential for some interesting relationship issues with this. It certainly looks like the show is planning on doing something with it, so I'm just hoping it handles it well. So far, signs are good.

And I am very much in love with Kuroyukihime.

This show is definitely off to a great start.

I was thinking of watching it...then I saw who subbed it. Unless either Hadena found better editors or the Asenshi guys are really doing a good job making the subs make sense.

The only problem I had was that all that on-screen text in the first few seconds caused my video players to want to curl up and die so I had to skip to several seconds in to actually get past it.

Seemed like pretty average fansub subtitles to me though. I guess I wouldn't know if they just completely fucked up what someone said unless it involved something really basic, but there wasn't anything that screamed for a better editor. The grammar, spelling, punctuation and that stuff was all fine.

I had forgotten that Hadena was not a very good group, but there was nothing in the episode to remind me of it. Well, they did some unnecessary crap with the translation note, but it was a translation note and it was the only one, so that wasn't a big deal.

So is the video quality of the pre-air any good? I guess I assumed it was a webrip and Japanese streams are generally terrible. Or did they actually air two episodes on TV already?

Well not that I'm in a rush, although I guess getting a head start would be nice while I've got my number of shows drastically cut down in this lull between seasons...

I believe they're 720p webrips. They're good. but not as good as true 720p TV rips.

Oh, being a webrip would explain it. I didn't realize it was a webrip. It seemed slightly blurred, like it wasn't quite 720p resolution (maybe around 600 or so instead). Well, the fact that I didn't realize it was a webrip should say something just by watching about the quality. Granted, I have a higher video quality tolerance than you, as some CR videos bothered you at times when I didn't notice anything wrong. It's certainly far from terrible though.

And it did specify "pre-air". The regular TV broadcast starts on the 6th or 7th, depending on how you count the time.

Piggy boy Haru ^^
Seems like he likes virtual world better than real one.
Probably 'cause he's being bullied by those guys.
His pig avatar was kinda cute though.
That girl sure saved his ass with that program.
Second part was even better with that new avatar look and fight parts.
Will be watching this one!

Toyosaki Catgirl. Interesting. Also, appropriate.

Kuroyukihime (now there's a name, Black Snow Princess...) is...well, she's amazing, in every way. Lets see, she doesn't sound familiar, her seiyuu is...Misawa Sachika (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=75719), who's done approximately jack-all. I like her though.

Hiroyuki's kinda a loser...ok, he's really a loser...but it works.

Off to a good start.

You know, Hiroyuki being Kaji Yuuki has some amusing meta aspects to it, considering the types of characters he usually plays.

Hiroyuki's relationship with Kuroyukihime is interesting, he clearly respects her a lot, but its hard to say if he really has "feelings" for beyond that, other than the fact that she is, of course, incredibly beautiful. I'd almost say right now its more likely he has feelings like that for Chiyuri.

Speaking of which, Kuroyuki's and Chiyuri's faceoff at the end was...yikes.

Really liking this so far!

So what you're asking is are we surprised that the people who made, or were involved with shows like Guilty Crown, Seikon no Qwaser, Vampire Bund, Fractale, and Sora no Woto made this show?

Well, no. Many people work on many different things, be they good or bad that's really up to the individual. Some people could be stoked that this has involvement by the guy who had a big involvement with Guilty Crown, some could avoid this show because of that.

I personally judge a show based on the show itself, everything deserves a fair shot regardless of the staff. To me seeing the staff after viewing the anime is more of a "hey would you look at that" kinda thing.

First episode is up on Hulu. This show that I had been looking for has been great so far. This show gets right into the thick of things right away with Haru living out his life as a pig in a virtual world whose passion in life is squash while being totally out of touch with the real world. Then comes Kuroyukihime (KYH from hereon out since her nickname is way too long) who is able to put one of the bullies in his place with a well-thought plan to provoke and expose the bully using the Brain Burst. Next day, Haru is in a war-torn version of the real-life world being challenged to a fight in Brain Burst. Instead of being a pig, he is now some kind of armored warrior by the name of Silver Crow. Something big is brewing and now Haru must man up.

I was looking forward to this show, and the first episode was great. Even though the lead is a chubby boy, he is a very interesting character with lots of layers to him, and KYH looks like an awesome character that will have me watching just for the black butterfly. I look forward to watching more of this. I was expecting to have some funny moments given the type of character design given to Haru, but it's all serious business.

Decided to watch this via VIZ since there is no better option right now. One thing that irked me was translating sophmore as 2nd grader?

Overall, good first episode. Haru is a wuss, but that makes sense. What's the deal with Taku though and why Haru did not want him to know anything? Is he a childhood friend that always had to stand up for Haru?

At the end, the CG wasn't that bad...much better than in one of the preview videos shown a while back. I wonder about the whole new challenger thing - was this why Kuroyukihime warned him about not connecting to the net until the next day?

Then there's Kuroyukihime. That scene with her in the lunchroom was amazing. I think I'm in love already.

She's absolutely lovely...well, I already knew that from the previews of the show. Her avatar dress is always gorgeous - I can totally see people trying to cosplay that.

I loved when she told Haru to stop looking at her legs during the accel world scene in the lunchroom. Not that he can help it due to his pig avatar. haha.

And her seiyuu is .... Misawa Sachika? Huh. Not completely new but she's only done 3-4 other shows (depending on how you count) since she started three years ago and her most significant character is one of the fairies from Yumeiro Pastiere.

Her voice had a slight Senjougahara tone to it as Kuroyukihime. Which is not bad. I like her voice.

In episode 1, when Haru, in the bathroom, goes to the MMO world, it briefly shows "Junior High School" before loading up. Easy to assume high school though.

Not the first time I've seen it done that way. I've seen it that way on R1 DVDs at least once and I'm pretty sure it was several different shows. It's always been incredibly obnoxious.

Its not that Haru didn't *want* him to know about the Bento, but that he *shouldn't* have known, so why did he? I want to rewatch that scene with an alternate translation (which means *ugh* the Viz one). Either Hadena fucked it up and in doing so, made the scene make more sense than it was supposed to or Viz fucked it up so that what he doesn't want Taku to know less clear. I really hope Doki or UTW, or *someone* reliably quick and of decent quality picks up this show.

ASenshi just released the TV version of episode 1, and they dropped the Hadena joint. They aren't the best fansub group ever, but not terrible either. Maybe check and see if they changed the script?

Anyway, I have a feeling that this is one of those "will be made clear later" things, so I'm not worried too much about the ambiguity.

Re-watching the scene (and the lines are the identical or close to it; no idea how it compares to the Viz translation though), Haruyuki really looks up to and respects Taku, so I think he didn't want Taku to know how pathetic he was. I think that was the main thing. It also may have been an issue of how he saw Taku's actions, as people tend to not respond favorably to being pitied (which kind of goes back to the original issue).

Yeah, thats my take on it. He thinks that Chiyuri is pittying him (...which she probably is, a bit) and he doesn't want Taku (whom he respects for...who knows, we'll find out I guess) to know how bad things are.

And of course, this is they main reason he agrees to work with Kuroyukihime. She doesn't pitty him. She's the first person in who knows how long, to take him at face value.

I'm torn. I like MMORPGs. This one seems pretty far out there and thus interesting. The squash playing pig is an interesting idea (when he's not being emo). On the other hand, I abhor, detest, dislike, disdain, despise... his real life counterpart. Please kill him off.

Chiyuri is awesome in both forms, although I give the nod to nekomimi. I think this is the one time I'm glad the osananajimi gets the shaft. Because Haru is also an asshole.

Kuroyukihime's game design is completely overdone for my tastes. On the other hand, she looks like a grown up Shana in the real world. She has a pretty awesome personality too.

Taku's actually attractive. the ending shows promise, and I like the ending song.

But ugh. I'm not sure how much I can stand Haru.

Uhhhhhh, maybe? I bought a bunch of magazines in the first half of last year and they came with various goodies including a lot of various kinds of posters. I'm not sure if any of them were bathroom posters.

That's how I feel about it as well. Considering that she reaches out to someone who looks like somebody out of South Park says a lot of things about her. I've seen no evidence that any figures of her exist yet, save maybe some sort of "prizes" based on what I saw on the "goods" page of the website (which is how I knew a Nendo was already being worked on). Unless you mean those magazine pack-ins which I really don't count.

Episode 1:

- Oh my. The protagonist really does look like that, normally. I hope I'm not ever expected to take him seriously. It's like a design from a different show was plopped down in this one and it's pretty distracting.
- Kuroyuki-hime~ Love her design.
- And catgirl voiced by Toyosaki Aki!

- She's hot in the real world too.
- Wow that's a lot of sandwiches. I think she's intentionally fattening him up.
- Kuroyukihime is some new seiyuu, Misawa Sachika. She sounds quite nice.

- Plot stuff. So, Burst Link is like, setting life to Wait mode.
- God... Kuroyukihime is gorgeous. In both forms.
- I guess this is where I start feeling sorry for Chiyuri. She has no chance against Kuroyukihime.

I'll hold off on episode two, because I'd rather not have to wait an extra week for episode 3. Might as well stick with the weekly airings now.

This has promise. Not sure if I'll come to like Haru, but I've seen worse. The girls are amazing though.

Ah, yeah, was just coming to post that. I'm very happy to see that they're doing this series.

The only thing they did that felt awkward to me was subbing Kuroyuki-hime as Princess Snow Black, which while not a problem per se (it's a correct translation) is just a really distracting mouthful (er, mindful?) to read. So I'll just take 20 seconds to run a find&replace on that in Aegisub before watching each episode. Other than that, I saw nothing that I objected to. I'm pretty sure I remembered UTW being one of those awful heavy-localization groups in the past, but between this and their work on Fate/Zero either they've stopped, or they got a new translator (or I'm mistaking them for someone else). So on top of them being pretty timely, that takes care of good sources for at least two shows this season, which is good news.

Ugh, yeah, that's annoying. I saw that when I skimmed the first chapter of the manga just to see if the art was any good.

And it sounds like it might actually be her name, since her classmates at school call her that. It's possible she just has everyone call her by a nickname/"screenname" at school for some reason though. But if it is her actual name, then it really shouldn't be translated. But until its certain that that's the case, then yeah, I can't really say its wrong to do so but I just don't like seeing it that way.

And if its actually supposed to be a play on the Japanese name for Snow White (Shirayukihime), then "Snow Black" would be better translated name for her anyway.

So I'll just take 20 seconds to run a find&replace on that in Aegisub before watching each episode.

Sounds like its time for me to learn how to use Aegisub.

I know I've used them a number of times before Fate/Zero and don't recall any problems with them, but its possible I've just forgotten. Or I just didn't see the shows that had those issues. And sometimes I'll just put up with some minor issues if I'm not willing to wait for other groups or the others have even bigger problems and I usually won't remember those minor (to me) issues once I finish.

UTW has/uses multiple translators (it seems practically the whole staff can translate, though) and the person doing Accel World posted on his/her blog regarding notes and how it was translated. Kuroyukihime was translated as "Princess Snow Black" because it's supposedly is a play on Snow White.

Sounds like its time for me to learn how to use Aegisub.

You can also do the find and replace using a decent text editor like notepad++ after extracting it unless you want to load up the video while doing your editing then Aegisub is the way to go.

I think when they first started they were a little too speedy so people found lots of mistakes (editing and qc has to take a hit)...not sure about over-localization. But, nowadays they are one of the better groups out there.

I really didn't know what to expect going into this, but I was pretty happy with it. I'm definitely interested to see where it goes from here. I might have to look into it to see more about it and manga it's based on. Depending on what kind of story it is and how long it goes, in other words whether or not it runs forever like a lot of shonen manga that this may be another example of, I'm not sure if I'll keep enjoying it for as long as it continues to run. For now, though, I'm optimistic.

Well, the manga is currently serialized in Dengeki Bunko Magazine (just found that out randomly flipping through one issue I have looking for anything about Sakurasou na Pet na Kanojo). Two tankoubon volumes are currently available.

- Silver Crow, beaten to a pulp.
- Next day, it's time to learn the ins and outs of the virtual fighting game, on a virtual grass field in the twilight.
- The gap between them is not as great as Haru thinks it is. KYH has some baggage if her fighting avatar is locked.
- So Haru will fight on to repay the favor.
- What! Haru rejected KYH? At least she says so.
- Payback time now that Haru has KYH's intel.
- Ash Roller can climb walls on the bike? So much for running the clock.
- Fear the Headbutt? Epic fail!
- How do you beat a 20th-century motorcycle rider? Lift the rear wheel.
- Headbutt at point blank for the win!
- Uh, oh! Did KYH make an enemy out of Chiyu?

So this episode picks up where the first one ends very nicely and the rest of this series should really be something. It was very nice that the Brain Burst fighting game gets fully explained and the fight was really great, and the trash-talking Ash Roller does just adds to it all. While still a wimp, at the very least Haru is much less of one now that there is someone looking out for him. KYH continues to be a great character as she is someone who appears to be the perfect girl, but has some personal baggage and is a really deep character. It will be interesting how the relationship between Haru and KYH unfolds.

Haruyuki gets to learn some important information about this new world he has become part of, and comes into his own with his first fair fight just barely ending in a close victory for him. Mostly exposition and then a pretty typical fight, but when it's literally just a fighting game with greater importance than whatever Capcom is re-releasing every week, I'm somewhat impressed if it can be remotely interesting. And while not especially so, I'd say this is accomplishing that well enough that I'll stick around and see if things pick up.

-We don't get to see the finish move in action? Booo!

Middle schooler? I just assumed they were in high school.

Yeah that does seem wrong. Sure Haru & Kuroyukihime would seem short for high school, but everyone else around them sure looks like high school kids.

I'm doubting whether I like this show because it's actually good, or just because everything else new this season is so underwhelming to me (not counting Amnesia). I mean Haru is similar to so many other self-doubting main characters, but has more balls than usual when push comes to shove. Plus he doesn't need 10 episodes and someone else forcing him into a change in character to fight back. Even if his "fighting for the sake of my butterfly princess" isn't fighting for himself and might be delusional projection.

Guess the catfight is starting already. And Kuroyuki-hime seems to have no intention of backing down.

I'm also going to guess her "hideous avatar" is some kind of nasty caterpillar, for symbolism purposes.

But man she's way too good for Haru. I just hope she doesn't end up being too good for this show too. So far it's not bad at all, but that depends where they go with it. With two cour we have plenty of time to develop the story at least.

- So KYH provoked Chiyu, too, and has some sort of history with her.
- No wonder KYH is using direct link. She's a fugitive after crushing the Red King.
- Getting to Level 10 and meeting the anonymous creator is her objective. But to do that, win five in a row against Level 9 opponents. Brutal.
- The search for Cyan Pile is on, starting with Chiyu.
- Too close for comfort between Haru and Chiyu. A cable that short is only for Taku.
- What happened to their friendship? Let's clear the air about that.
- It is jealousy? Well Chiyu thinks so even though it shouldn't be that. But meanwhile...
- A back door? Even if Chiyu isn't Cyan Pile, there's a connection.

So this episode was basically two long conversations between Haru and KYH about the Kings and why she has become a fugitive, and then between Haru and Chiyu in the search for Cyan Pile. This was quite an informative episode that explains a lot about what is going on. Certainly it's a good thing it happens here so that it sets up things nicely for the next episodes.

The background for our princess was good to know. I can't fault her for trying to reach level 10 and betray the kings. Why do I have a feeling she's using Haru for the purpose of reaching level 10?

Back-door found on Chiyu? hohoho. Now, that's interesting.

It's probably coincidence, since the show probably wouldn't spell it out so easily with the color connection, but I feel like Taku could Cyan Pile. It's the blue tracksuit he was wearing when he ran into Haru.

Yaaaay, after 2+ weeks I can finally watch another episode. This is why I usually don't watch those.

Kuroyukihime verbally slapped Chiyu down pretty nicely.

And now we find out what Kuroyukihime's goals are and what she wanted Haru for. It seems it had nothing to do with his game score.

This episode has done nothing to reduce my fondness for Kuroyukihime. I like where things are going with her ultimate goals and objectives. In many other shows, she'd be the villain.

From an objective point of view, she IS the villain of the piece.

...and I have no problems with that.

This was a fantastic episode, pretty much all dialog, but it flowed fantastically, and they didn't use their not needing to animate lip flaps to cheap out on the animation.

And while I remain devoted to Kuroyukihime-sama, Chiyuri's realy not bad herself.

Was not expecting her to potentially be a Burst Linker already though, that is quite the twist.

Exposition World. So Haru now had a long-term goal: Go through all of the game and become the first Burst Linker to reach Level 10, learning its secrets and the identity of its creator, for Kuroyukihime. Too bad he'll probably only get a fraction of the way there in the two cours this series has. And it turns out Kuroyukihime is actually kind of the villain of the game. That's an interesting twist I wasn't expecting. Also, the first villain from the perspective of the protagonists is the loveable secondary protagonist, Haru's cute childhood friend Chiyuri. After the scenes with her in this episode, it should be interesting to see how that goes.

Kuroyukihime is much better as the "villain" of this piece. Makes her more interesting to me than just a pretty to look at butterfly. Did she challenge people in the school server instead of the global one? Or she didn't have the need of collecting more points because as a level 9 avatar she collected a truckload on her way up there?

Anyway, really good episode (http://www.seaslugteam.com/2012/04/28/accel-world-04/), the confession was particularly well done.

Once Chiyu was eliminated as Cyan Pile, it was fairly obvious that it was going to be Taku. Also installing a backdoor in your girlfriend's neuro linker so you can spy on her and her friends is a spectacularly slimy thing to do, so Taku'd better have a damn good explanation.

Well, this should certainly shut down some of the accusations that have been thrown at Kuroyukihime up to this point. This episode made her intentions with Haru very, very clear.

I like that we already have a confession of love. That scene was really good. Particularly the part leading up to it, with Haruyuki voicing his interpretation of Kuroyukihime's intentions and it visibly crushing her. Then she gets to prove how that she really means it and ends up in a coma.

Taku being Cyan Pile is entirely expected. It's not clear yet if Chiyuri was aware of it, though I'm leaning toward no based on how we saw him learn of Kuroyukihime's status. If that's the case, that really thrashes my interpretation of the Haru/Chiyu link scene at the end of last episode.

On a lighter note, jealous Kuroyukihime is really amusing. I look forward to many more chances for her to get jealous.

And I hope the reporter girls are recurring characters. That was too interesting a direction to go with them for them to be single scene characters. It's a nice change from how such characters are usually portrayed, which tends to be some variant of "anything for a good story" and the school princess dating an underclassman that most likely see as a loser is tabloid gold.

This was such a nice episode that shows that Taku is not the person what we thought he was. He is so jealous that Chiyu had been babysitting Haru all this time and that persona he put on was not exactly what it was meant to be. And it was through this fight that their friendship advanced with the intent of fixing the evils of the Brain Burst with KYH. Of course what made the episode was the twintail look of KYH at the end. Now that the story has firmly been established, time to go to the next stage as we meet new characters in the next episode and uncover clues as to what Brain Burst is all about.

And that's not her true form anyway. Her true form fits much more with the rest of the avatars, as she finally reveals here. She said it was hideous but Haru thinks it's beautiful. I'm not sure I'd call it either. It's slick but it looks like an inhuman robot like everyone else, so it's very different from seeing her as a cute girl with butterfly wings, as is the case with everyone and their avatars. And she's finally ready to reveal her name as well, but we have to wait another week to hear that. If Haru does call her that from now on, it will be a little weird not having known it for all this time.

Interesting turn of events. I would have been so mad at Taku I would have dropped him.

I've read up to this point in the manga and it was funny how the scene where Kuroyukihimie finds out that Haru has seen her student handbook was done differently from the manga. Much more subdued. In the manga she freaks out (not out of anger but more out of fear that he may have seen something embarrassing) and threatens to kill him if he ever looks in it again. Much funnier in the manga. At this point, I can't stay suspicious of her motives.

Kuro is awesome looking and I love the wings. However it's hard to ignore Chiyu's hair accessories. As well as the whole cat thing.

So the part at the end was basically a figurative way of saying "Guess what! Things can get a lot worse than you think they are" or maybe I'm reading it wrong.

What a jerk, that Taku. I was expecting Haru's emotions to get the best of him and drop him after the fight. Maybe he does deserve a second chance and having someone with his power in Brain Burst could be useful.

I was spoiled on Kuroyukihime's true form due to magazine pack-ins, but it's not hideous at all. Reminds me of a little bit of designs from an old PC game called One Must Fall.

And, twintails on KYH? Cute!

Twin braid Kuroyukihime! ... I think she's trying to be Homuhomu.

Fuck yeah, Kuroyukihime actually did something in this episode. It wasn't in battle, but she still got to be pretty awesome with her grand return.

The very end reveals that Kuroyukihime is actually a nickname. Sadly, we have to wait until next name to find out her real name though.

As for Taku, yeah, he was a pretty big asshole. He had his reasons, and they do make him understandable and they partially related Haruyuki, so I can buy them making up the way they did. I'm a little concerned about how things are going to be handled in relation to Chiyuri though, that it will be smoothed over too easily and downplay how much of a dick he was and how incredibly invasive it was to Chiyuri.

The show has potential for things to play out interestingly with all these other groups working under the Color Kings. I don't think the previous episodes really established the Kings were basically guild leaders and had their own little mini-armies. We just knew they each had some sort of territory and agreed to a ceasefire with each other. I'm hoping the groups start making moves against each other and some of them take each other out, rather than Haru and Kuro taking them all out. But there's also that issue of the very limited supply of level 9s, and if Haru or Kuro is supposed to be the one to reach level 10, then that kind of requires one of them to take down all of them. Then again, all out war between the groups could result in more people reaching level 9 and fix that.

Anyway, very nice episode. The fight with Taku was pretty good (aside from wondering how exactly Taku refilled his Special Attack gauge immediately after using it) and solid end to the first arc.

I don't remember, but was it explained that the battlers only have one special attack they can use? Taku could be a high enough level to be able to use at least two special attack.

The placeholder image for the discs make it clear he's going to continue to be a significant character, so I figured the odds of him losing the match were low as soon as he revealed that his points were so low that losing this match would end his Burst Link career.

I saw images of Black Lotus for the same reason, since they were kind of hard to miss when looking for Accel World stuff on AmiAmi. I avoided looking as much as possible, but I saw enough to see that it looked fairly similar to Silver Grow, enough to know that it was far from hideous. So either there was some other "true form" or she had some other issues going on that causes her to have a very negative view of its appearance, perhaps something that symbolizes something in her past, maybe something she feels guilty about. She specifically mentioned the lack of hands in this episode, but its hard to imagine that alone being the reason she felt that way. Maybe she did something in the past that resulted in someone else losing their hands?

I don't think they ever explained the special attack gauge. Actually, while I remember the special attacks being brought up since Haru's is the headbutt, I don't remember the gauge being mentioned at all. Though its entirely possible I just forgot. Anyway, it just seems like that's how it should work. But you're right, its entirely possible one of his level up perks was the ability to use special attacks twice. Or maybe they're use is unlimited once the gauge is full.

It's possible that it could go down the way CC's name was revealed in Code Geass (another Sunrise show). In that scene, she was about to tell Lelouch her name when a raindrop interrupted the conversation, and then the two had some conversation afterwards that was never revealed. In this show, it could go down as being that Haru opts to continue calling her by her nickname since that is what everybody else had been calling her all this time. I'm hoping that we hear it even if it goes down like that. We do know it is not much different, so it looks something like Himeko Kuroki, or something variant.

And I instantly knew that she's going to cost me a lot of money. She's already cost me ~$50. (http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=BOK-6075) God help me when they start releasing figured of her. ;_;

Have you bought a bathroom poster before?

Uhhhhhh, maybe? I bought a bunch of magazines in the first half of last year and they came with various goodies including a lot of various kinds of posters. I'm not sure if any of them were bathroom posters.

Edit: Actually, I'm pretty sure at least one of my magazines came with one because I recall a Misaka Mikoto poster thing that I'm pretty sure was supposed to be a bath poster.

It just arrived. I definitely haven't bought one of these before. I was expecting something plastic, like the stick posters I received in a number of magazines, but a bit bigger. It's actually A LOT bigger. It's like two feet wide. I didn't unfold it all the way because I don't want to hang anything on my walls right now and wanted to put it back in the packaging. But its huge, and the material is... not plastic. It's not a poster, its more like the material my wallscrolls are made out of.

This article should give you an idea of the size. (http://blog.livedoor.jp/geek/archives/51335453.html) Just compare it to the magazines down at the bottom. I didn't post it before because I wasn't 100% sure that it wasn't a poster/advertisement rather than the actual poster. But that really is how big it is.

And for those who can't read hiragana, that word before "OK!!" is "bukkake". :sd:

Anyway, its very nice. I definitely don't regret spending the money on it.

I'm a little unsure her name will be revealed too, on the count of I haven't been spoiled on it at all yet. Kind of a flimsy reason I know, but is always hard to avoid "real name" spoilers. They circulate around the internet (and particularly Pixiv) with ease usually. I knew Kuroneko's real name in Oreimo, for instance, well before I started watching the anime.

Yea, I was thinking it could go down the cliched path of about to announce something important, like her real name, and the two get interrupted and it doesn't come up again for a long time.

The fact that Accel World and Code Geass were done by Sunrise would have no bearing, though, if KYH's real name is revealed unless Sunrise decided to liberal on adapting what happened in the light novels.

- “I confessed to him and wait for his answer, we are about to go on a date” That left Chiyu out of words…
- Kuroyukihime greatest priority is to reach level 10. Like that she can meet the developer and discover the true meaning behind Brain Burst program and its ultimate goal. Nice that they explain all of it to us soon like that.
- Now, we even know why Kuroyukihime chose Haru.
- Each time I see Kuroyukihime outfit I am like “WOW!”
- Chiyu is a burst linker too. Oh, this is interesting.
- Chiyu you found the shortest cable didn’t you?

Of course KYH real name was not revealed. It wasn't even touched upon. But, no matter the hairstyle, she looks good no matter what.

Very nice of Taku to help Haru out, though.

The whole bodyguard thing was interesting considering the character is level 1. Of course, when Taku referred to it as "The One," I could only think of Jet Li. haha.

Curious about KYH burst linking when Taku walks in at the end. Taking precautions?

The place where Haru meets Aqua Current had a pretty blatant advertisement for another Dengeki Bunko property, "Makouka Koukou no Rettousei," also known as "The Irregular at Magic High School" (thank you roman characters on that poster! Without it, I would just have recognized the characters, but no clue on the name). Makes me wonder if that novel is going to be adapted to an anime series in the near future.

Seemed to have something to do with Taku's kendo since she was looking at a kendo ladder. I'm guessing he dropped out or isn't using his Burst Linker capability like he had done before.

I was thinking that Burst Linking for her was dangerous since she could be challenged, but then I remember that they're on the hospital net and not the global.

Sadly, her main role in this episode was getting annoyed that Haru didn't compliment her on her new look.

I'm satisfied with how the Chiyu situation was handled. It's not ideal, but the show treated it as them doing something pretty significantly wrong and she didn't forgive them right away.

At least it allowed fans to see her with different hairstyles in the last two episodes. Should be good for fan art fodder.

- So Cyan Pile will be spared for now by the Blue Knight.
- Another new hairstyle for KYH, this time it's a ponytail. Really cute.
- Haru, leveling up. Perhaps way too soon. Whoops!
- That's Haru for you, not taking Taku's points now that he is just a loss away from being out of the game.
- So the word about Brain Burst is now out to Chiyu. Flying books are not going to stop Taku, but it does stop Haru.
- A different hairstyle for KYH. And Haru hides a shameful truth.
- New objective this time: find Aqua Current.
- That's an odd way to greet each other. Using an iPad to out your avatar.
- Now, it's Haru and Aqua Current meeting face to face. Or rather, hand to chest.

So after the events of the previous episode, it wastes no time entering the next phase very nicely with KYH recovering with Haru trying to level up, and keep his Burst Points at a good level, which he failed to do. And I am thinking Chiyu becomes a Burst Linker in the next episode or so. Then there is Aqua Current. It looks like a girl, but is dressed in a boy's uniform. Not sure if it is a boy or a girl, but if it is a girl (and I think it is a girl with the way Haru reacted after inadvertently touching her chest), there must be a good reason why Aqua Current is dressed that way. And we still don't know what KYH's real name is, and I am thinking that she might be hiding her real name because her family must be up to no good in some way.

- So Taku quits the kendo club, and is fighting KYH.
- Aqua Current's avatar is a cute little weasel with glasses and a necktie. Very fitting of her.
- A Level 1 and Level 2 vs. a level 3 and a level 4? Hardly seems fair.
- In the meantime, Taku goes to the extreme for atonement.
- Taku has really done it with his kendo gear in the dumpster.
- Silver resists poison, but is weak to electric attacks. Haru sure has a lot to learn.
- Water conducts electricity, but pure water does not. Only Current would know that.
- Haru is back at a safe level. Time to say goodbye to Current.
- A new school, and a pair of glasses. Taku is a whole new person.

This is another good episode where there were two things going on and this episode balanced those things out pretty nicely. There is Taku being way too hard on himself to atone for his problems he caused Haru and Chiyu, only to have KYH have him snap out of it in a battle. Then there is Haru and Current battling to get his points back up where Haru learns how to truly battle as a tag team. I just love Current's weasel avatar, and Taku looks better with the glasses as now, he goes to the same school as everybody. Next episode, we get introduced to Tomoko.

Does Current erase everyone's memories? It seems like that would be a little counterproductive to getting your name out there. And her "jumping in at the last second" deal was climactic and all, but I'm pretty sure there were a few times that Haru could have lost when she let him go off on his own and said "good luck not dying", plus she was taking a pretty unnecessary risk in waiting for him to be at 1 HP before doing anything. Oh well, I guess she knew she had the writing on her side to get away with it. I really liked how Taku and KYH's fight was interspersed in the action. Next time, naked loli. Yep...

That was a really fight heavy episode, but there were some nice twists toward the end with Aqua Current. And the Kuro/Taku fight conversation was pretty interesting. We still have very little insight into what makes Kuro tick, but what she said to Taku there combined with the obvious (which she stated at the end) start to give some tidbits indirectly.

I'm guessing the Master she mentioned is the King that Kuroyukihime "killed" when she decided to make things start moving again. I figure her other reason for staying at level 1 is to gather enough points to jump straight to level 9 (or higher?) and stay off the radars of the Kings until she's ready to act. But her objective and motives might be more complicated than that, because her final comments and action suggest that she's not a normal Burst Linker. She said something about "Elements"...

Oh, and Aqua Current's battle avatar is really cool. Then her normal one is.... a ferret?

- Even if it is virtual, that shot to the head still hurts.
- Who's this little girl who snuck into Haru's home? Apparently she is his second cousin Tomoko Saito.
- Whoa, Haru just say something about Oreimo?
- Time for a bath, and to find out just who is Tomoko Saito.
- The tan says so. She is a Burst Linker.
- So she is Scarlet Rain, the second Red King. Trouble is on the way now.
- This Red King fights in a tank. Good luck dodging her weapons, Haru.
- Flying kick!!!!!!! To a land mine, that is. There goes Haru's chances of winning.
- Scarlet Rain wins, and now she wants to meet KYH.
- Next day, Haru and KYH talk about what happened.
- She may be enemies with lots of linkers, but not with Haru.

So this episode was all about Tomoko (or at least that's what Haru thinks her name is), and she sure has quite an attitude when it comes to the Brain Burst program, and she sure has a bone to pick with KYH. She can go from being the cute little sister type to being a downright nasty brat. That battle sure showcased her nasty side and of course, being the inexperience Linker going up against one of the kings, Haru was going to lose. Next episode, "Tomoko" and KYH are meeting face-to-face, and sparks are sure to fly considering what Black Lotus did to the former Red King.

Haru was a total idiot. After he finds out that the loli, who's actually pretty nasty, is a burst linker, why not sign out of the global net to avoid any virtual confrontations?

And, she's the Red King with a bone to pick with KYH - probably due to the past.

I did like the shout-out to OreImo when Haru first meets Tomoko.

On another note, we're finally starting the 2nd volume of the light novel with this episode. So, it looks like it took 7 episodes to cover the first volume (assuming all 7 episodes took the story from the first volume). There are currently 11(?) light novels out. At this pace, we'll cover, what, maybe 3.5 volumes of material. Seems pretty slow, unless the anime is doing this intentionally to make sure things are explained properly.

The unexpected house guest totally threw Haru off balance.

Suddenly, Haru has an imouto. And she's the Red King. She was cute and all at first, but I definitely liked her a lot more once she started showing her more psychotic side.

It seems Kuro had a personal connection with the previous Red King that she beheaded.

The end also brings up something interesting about where Kuro and Haru's relationship as Burst Linkers may end up. Kuro talked about all Burst Linkers being enemies and she didn't seem to mean it as if she's changed her position when she mentioned it.

And who was that guy roaring and apparently eating his opponents? It looks like he has something to do with Scarlet Rain's request.

The 11th volume came out right when the anime was starting. (http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4048865218)

Interesting that this just started the second volume though. I figured the first volume ended at episode 5 with the Haru and Kuro in the hospital room talking about her name, and that the stuff with Aqua Current was the start of volume 2 or perhaps even all of it if the anime rushed through it for some reason.

... Actually, that WAS the end of volume 1. The last illustration a few pages from the end is twin-braid Kuroyukihime. The first illustration of volume 2 is of our lovely freckled Red King in a bath towel. So where did episodes 6 and 7 come from? Anime original material? Or maybe its from some side-story material that came bundled with a magazine somewhere. That would make sense and would explain the otherwise kind of odd memory erasure. Aqua Current probably actually shows up for the first time in a later novel, and then at some point there was a short side-story bundled with a magazine or something that covered events between volumes 1 and 2, teasing Aqua Current while fleshing out the transition with Taku. There was some sort of novel chapter for both Accel World and Sword Art Online in the Dengeki Bunko issue I recently bought, though glancing at one illustration, it clearly has to take place after this episode since it contained Scarlet Rain.

After doing some quick research, Aqua Current looks to first appear in volume 10 which is side-stories according to Baka-Tsuki. Looking at the novel illustrations for that volume show her and her duel avatar (volume 10 has one awesome picture...looks so good). So, yea, your thought of episode 7 being from a side-story looks to make sense.

Kind strange for a character to appear and then disappear. I wonder when she'll show up again in the anime. I also have to wonder if she did appear somewhere between vol. 2-9 of the light novels.

Interesting that she appears in chapter 9-10 in the manga according to bear - manga doing it's own thing with the side-stories or she actually does appear somewhere in volume 2 of the novels? I'll definitely need to pick up both the light novels and manga at some point.

I picked up that issue too. Slightly disappointed that one of the pack-ins was OreImo playing cards (I must have like 2-3 packs of anime playing cards now buying so many magazines over the year that I'll never use). The combo SAO/AW book was cool, but more interesting if you know Japanese.

- It's a good thing Haru was suspicious. Join the Red Legion and you would have been dead.
- Time to meet. Haru, KYH, Taku, and the Red King at Haru's place. Wait, Haru's hiding something.
- The Red King sure loves those old-school FPS games.
- So this "Tomoko" is really Yuniko Kouzuki.
- Say what? The Chrome Disaster has reappeared.
- Time for a history lesson. Burst Link, and Yuniko is a prince, while Taku is a tin man.
- This Chrome Disaster was supposed to be gone for good when Black Lotus and the other kings crushed it.
- So now, everybody is joining forces to take down the Chrome Disaster.
- Yuniko is staying over? This could get ugly.
- And if she's there, so is KYH. Can't let your guard down.
- Onto the grocery store. Did Squid Girl make her own line of instant noodles?
- Call me Niko!
- KYH and Yuniko are hard-core gamers, I see.

This episode has a lot going on with the main thing being that the Chrome Disaster is apparently not dead, and Niko is not the jerk that she acts like. It turns out that there is a serious threat and Silver Crow is needed to take it out. She could have been more direct about it, but this seems to be suspicious in some way. I'm thinking that the Chrome Disaster is some kind of virus in the Brain Burst program and that the creator might be behind it in some way. At least it looks like Niko is not really trying to get revenge on Black Lotus for killing the Red King and the two appear to be getting along just fine. But again, this could be an act knowing how good Niko is at it. Overall, it was a good episode with a lot of new info, plus a good amount of funny moments.

New big bad introduced. That's what Tomoko, whose real name is Yuniko apparently, is after. She's Kuroyukihime's sworn enemy, and they are amusingly hostile toward each other, but there's nothing like a nice bonding bath to get them all friendly. She's unsurprisingly pretty tsundere at times, but you never really know what's real and what's an act. I love Haru's picture of what would normally happen in an anime and his attempt to make it happen, only for that to be subverted.

For some reason I had a feeling Chrome Disaster was the creator of the game playing with the players, but more backstory reveals maybe not. But, since the armor is cursed and has reappeared, I can't help but think the creator is behind this mess.

KYH jealously sure knows no bounds, but it's rather cute actually. The whole staying at Haru's house scene was highly amusing. Not very surprised at KYH staying over and Yuniko seems to be pretty tsunderish, too. The two don't like each other very much and I thought they need to get a room together. Well..what do you know, they're sleeping, holding each other at night. That was really cute.

Another time we could learn KYH's real name, but we don't even though supposedly one can't forge those ID cards.

Overall, really good episode. The Chrome Disaster arc looks to be interesting and I really enjoyed the interactions of KYH and Yuniko.

"Welcome home, Onii-chan!" ... Not the way you usually get that line. This is muuuuuch better.

Yuniko (that's a new one, and unlike Kuroyukihime, its her actual name) is a lot of fun. I loved her and Kuro antagonizing each other (though it was mostly Niko trying to piss off Kuro). Kuro gut punching her at the end was particularly hilarious. The link cable scene was good too.

I really like her princely avatar outfit. Not as glorious as Kuroyukihime, but its still pretty nice. And then there's her normal outfit, super-short-shorts and black thighhighs combo with a lopsided large belt around her midsection to top it off. Odd, but works very nicely.

And thanks to Niko deciding to stay at Taku's, we get to see Kuroyukihime in pajamas. Then we get to see them sleeping on the couch together and its absolutely adorable.

Oh, and I loved Haru thinking about the typical "walks into the bathroom while girl(s) is/are bathing" scenario and then intentionally trying to do it and not being able to.

Anyway, I really liked what I saw of Niko last time and she got even better in this episode, when she really let her real personality run loose and spent most of the episode goading Kuro. I fell pretty hard for Kuroyukihime in the first episode, but suddenly its much harder to say who my favorite character is. I can't just switch from Kuro that easily but Niko is making a damn good case for herself.

Huh, so Brain Burst requires you to reach a certain level to activate the PvE option. And its not a one-on-one fight. I was wondering since they brought up their plan how they could team up against Chrome Disaster in a game that was (seemingly) one-on-one PvP only. This answers that.

So Yuniko didn't even know the previous Red King. Not only does she not hate Kuroyukihime for defeating them, she respects Kuro

Isn't Chii-chan still dating Taku? The show is doing the jealous childhood friend routine, but its awkward to do it when she's supposed to be dating another guy without anyone addressing this. Kuro in particular would be beating her over the head with this whenever these "situations" came up.

So, I was half-right with Yellow Radio appearing. Pretty tricky of him to use the armor of catastrophe to lure Niko. I thought he, at some point, though would be on the side of fighting with the heroes when Cherry Rook appears, but that doesn't happen and his death looks to be quick.

I do wonder why KYH still has regret over killing the old red king. Need more backstory.

Haru seemed to be mostly useless in the episode until our heroes got the upper hand. It's like he hasn't learned much playing the game this whole time. I don't know if it's his fault or partly KYH, Taku's fault not teaching him stuff. Maybe all these high level battles aren't helping either.

I'm still glad everyone else is pretty fun and interesting.

Fuck yeah, we finally get to see Black Lotus kick some ass.

Along with Scarlet Rain, who got a lot more time in the spotlight in this fight.

One of them sort of apologizes to her opponents for needing to relieve them of their limbs. The other revels in their destruction. No surprises on which is which.

So previously, Cherry Rook shows himself in the heat of a big battle between kings.

- So this guy is eating Burst Linkers for lunch. Really scary.
- Yellow Radio's illusion sure came in handy. He barely escapes with his army.
- Something's not right with Haru. Gotta stay motivated.
- Hey, watch where you're shooting that thing, Niko!
- Talk about a bad time for a betrayal.
- So Cherry Rook is Niko's guardian. Can't stand to shoot.
- Turns out Niko misunderstands life much more than Haru does.
- Cherry Rook can fly? Nah, just imitating Spider-Man.
- How to defeat him? Get threaded and kick him from way up high.
- And Cherry Rook is finally put out of his misery by Niko.
- No wonder Niko has been a brat all this time: she is an abandoned child and can't trust anybody.
- I knew it. Taku is still standing.
- The field has changed from a city to a forest.
- Did someone say I'm hungry? Haru must have imagined it.
- Now how to get shot by a muzzler in the sky? Watch the gunner, not the gun.
- And Niko is staying over once more.
- So it turns out Cherry Rook was moving away and wanted a quick solution to getting stronger.

This is another great episode here, and it is a nice way to end the first half. We learn exactly why Niko has been acting the way she is: it turns out she was abandoned by her parents and the only person she could trust was Cherry Rook. When he went berserk, then her life went down the tubes. But now that Haru has knocked some sense into her that it could mean a great change in her. It seems that there is something between her and Haru's mother, and I am thinking that she has been adopted into her family or something. In the next episode, it looks like Chiyu will become a Burst Linker and a new foe emerges.

Some exciting stuff happening. The arc finishes up in an epic fashion befitting the past several episodes leading up to it, but not all is well. The Armor of Catastrophe seems to be attached to Haruyuki without him knowing it. That will definitely be an interesting element of the plot for the rest of the series. Plus, with this out of the way, it's finally time for Chiyu to become a Burst Linker! That should be fun.

Black Lotus vs Cherry Rook/Disaster!
Scarlet Rain's sudden change of heart was surprising, but not unexpected.
She was lucky to have such good friends who'd take her side even if she was acting like a complete brat.
Silver Crow wanted to be the hero, but just ended up in a heap of trouble which he luckily managed to get out of.
So the problems with Disaster are no more, or? Guess we'll see about that remnant hitchhiker thing.

I'm thinking that the armor is a virus and is meant to corrupt those who are power-hungry. As it was stated in the episode, Cherry Rook accepted it thinking that it will make him this unstoppable machine but resulted in him going berserk. Since Haru got it without knowing it that I think that with his effort focused on getting rid of it for good that he will somehow contain it.

- Chiyu, welcome to the Accelerated World.
- Araya strikes back, in his dreams that is.
- Chiyu's dream world full of cushions is a much better place.
- It's a new year, and Haru, Chiyu, and Taku are together in the same class.
- So Chiyu is Lime Bell, and she's a healer.
- KYH is off to Okinawa for 10 days. And that leaves just Haru and Taku for this week's territory battles.
- A mysterious freshman named Nomi appears.
- Nomi apparently used Brain Burst, but Haru can't see him as one. Something is up.
- And Nomi crushes Taku in kendo.

So a brand new chapter begins, and this one is centered around Chiyu while KYH leaves the story for awhile. While Chiyu has a cool avatar, she is someone who would be crushed in a one-on-one battle. Then there is something strange about that Nomi guy with the way he wiped his hand after touching Haru. Not to mention reading Taku like a book. It's another solid episode, though it will not be quite the same with KYH gone for the next few episodes.

Chiyu becomes a Burst Linker, and she turns out to be a white mage, which there have somehow almost never been in the history of Brain Burst, save for one no longer among us and one current king (there aren't too many left that we haven't seen fight, so it should be narrowed down soon). Kuroyukihime is off for a while and leaves things in Haru's hands, but there's a mysterious new Burst Linker who can somehow hide his presence.

Did KYH just detect Chiyu or did she get a vibe on Nomi?

I'm still not sold on KYH being Haru's "one and only" . Her possessiveness seems more like a warlord demanding fealty than a lover.

and it seems obvious that Chiyu really wants Haru over Taku or, at least, wants both of them.

This show is still head and shoulders about anything I've seen so far in the new season.

The mysterious new student (at least he's not a transfer, right? haha) intrigues me - who exactly is he and how is he related to being a burst linker.

So, KYH is going to Okinawa on a school trip - beach episode soon? I've seen too many pictures of her in her bikini and I really want to see her animated in it.

Lime Bell is cute. Chiyu learning the game was hilarious. She was having way too much fun there. I was briefly wondering if they were going to go an "Oh god, we've created a monster" direction with her, but if they are, it doesn't look like they're doing it at the moment.

Kuro's appearance was minimal, but there were a few nice moments with her and Haru, particularly the whole "You belong to me, I won't let anyone else have you" thing while she caressed his face. I still love Kuroyukihime, but I feel the show just is not making good use of her.

- New opening!
- So there is the Physical Burst, not quite what KYH used to keep Haru out of danger, but useful for cheating in sports.
- Haru wants videos of KYH from the trip to Okinawa.
- So Nomi has an older brother that is his guardian? Something's not right since he would be too old.
- Time to follow Nomi around. Trail leads to the showers.
- Whoa! Haru became a pervert in an instant. Good thing he ran into Chiyu and not another girl.
- So Nomi can scramble one's visual senses. No wonder Haru went the wrong way.
- Don't tell Taku about this, or you're dead meat.
- Time for Haru and Nomi to get down to business.
- So Haru has to become Nomi's servant or else he will spread the video about Haru entering the girls shower. That's dirty.
- Chiyu heard it all and will defend Haru, but Nomi is one step ahead of that.
- And the boys get into a fistfight, with Nomi winning.
- Time for a duel. And with that, the episode ends with a new ending.

Nomi sure is an evil mastermind. At least with Yellow Radio he only does all that in the game, but with Nomi it spills over to the real world. I am thinking that he is some sort of hacker or something since if he were detected, his grand scheme would have been foiled from the start. It seems like he knows what move Haru and the others were going to make, and he is out for blood. The duel in the next episode should say a lot of things, as it looks like he has something up his sleeve thinking that he can easily beat Silver Crow, something that nobody would ever suspect.

As for the new OP and ED, I like the new animation sequences better, but the first theme songs are better than the new ones.

There was a distressingly low amount of Kuroyukihime in the new OP. At least there were several other additional cute girls in it, but I'm annoyed that Taku got far more attention than she did.

This show is severely abusing the "here's this gameplay mechanic or other important information that we just didn't tell you about yet" thing. It did it several times in the previous arc and its already doing it again with this Full Burst thing. At least they kiiiiiinda sorta try to justify it, but its a pretty weak justification. But that's more than I can say about the previous arc.

At this point, I'll gladly take some cliched shower room antics. At least in this aspect the show does it a lot better than most shows. There was a plausible reason and both characters acted reasonably given the circumstances.

Anyway, Noumi is a top class asshole. Having something resembling a real villain is nice and it will be nice to see him get smacked down. While I'm enjoying where the arc is going, despite the show removing Kuroyukihime, I feel that its not really doing anything to fix the show's larger problems.

Nomi has really done it and it is pretty clear that he is doing something illegal since none of tricks would not have worked unless he did some hacking. And then there is his Burst Linker that does the same thing as he does in the real world, and that is using a trick to win rather than fighting head-on. After all that, Haru thinks that throwing in the towel on Brain Burst would be the way to end his problems, but he is getting help from Ash Roller, the first opponent he defeated. Seems like after Ash found a way to fight without his trump card that Sky Laker will help get Haru back and put that sleazeball Nomi in his place. I was thinking it would be possible to ambush him with a bunch of guys to kick the shit out of him, but then I remembered he uses that special ability that would give him an advantage. I can't remember the last time I wanted to see a character just get beyond fucked up.

Haru was a whiny little bitch - understandable, but it seems like hasn't raised his self-esteem through all this time playing the game and being with KYH, Taku and Chiyu.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who found this episode hard to watch. I kept wanting to fast forward through it. (side thought: could Chiyu's ability be related to how they're going to overcome Dusk Taker?)

Haru's actions towards Taku were despicable. The context of their discussion implied that Taku wasn't actually dating Chiyu at the present time. That explains the scene where she's sitting next to Haru instead of him and his standoffish nature towards her. My opinion of him has really jumped up. After what he said to Haru. And Haru did deserve to get his ass kicked.

The part with Ash, at least, wiped the bad taste out of my mouth. He obviously cares about the game and loves the competition. His actions towards Haru and his devotion to his guardian totally changed my opinion of him. His guardian was...interesting (and a beautiful avatar). Her previous names and the wheel chair are going to make for an interesting backstory.

Our protagonist, the current closest to reaching the sky, goes to a rooftop to meet and train under the former closest to reaching the sky, who can no longer fly due to losing the legs that allowed that ability, being confined to a wheelchair, but is pretty slick in moving around in it, and also has a past connected to our female protagonist and main love interest of our main protagonist who she brought into this world. Our protagonist is put through some tough challenges by his new mentor, but as intended, this tests the ability to fly and to climb to the top of a tower, strengthening it in the process.

Whaddaya know, that was actually a sorta decent episode. Mainly because of Sky Raker, but still. It also let me more or less ignore the shitty arc its a part of, so that was a big plus. No Noumi at all, thank god.

Oh, and now they mention a shop off-hand. Something else that seems pretty damn important that the show has never explained at all prior to this.

- Back in school and ready to take down Nomi.
- What's this? A direct link.
- And Haru is speaking to a live video of KYH, live from Okinawa.
- There's something about Nomi's test scores.
- Taku challenges Nomi. His hunch was right: he did use Brain Burst to cheat on his exams.
- Somehow, Nomi knows about the incarnate system.
- Taku is down, and Haru is begging. He is definitely up to something since he wouldn't just do it like that.
- And it's a surprise attack, but Nomi is showing what he can do.
- Great strategy, but Dusk Taker, you gotta be the only one who can fly.
- Gale Thruster is unleashed, and now it's even.
- Nomi isn't just fighting Haru, he is also fighting Taku, too.
- And Nomi is down, and out...
- Wait, why the heck is Chiyu healing Nomi? His tricks didn't work on Haru and Taku, but Chiyu fell for it.

Things were going well with Haru and Taku beating up Nomi, and then Chiyu shows up healing Nomi having bowed down to Nomi's threats. That last scene was just sickening to see and now the arc with Nomi continues. But it looks like the next episode will be a break from all that as it looks like it is going to focus on KYH and Megumi in Okinawa rather than back at school.

Kuroyuki's greeting's from the beach really brought some color into Haru's cheeks.
Cyan Pilve vs Dusk Taker in the middle of P.E.
Taku fighting to get Silver Crow's wings back was not a good idea.
I still think they are not strong enough to take him on without Kuroyuki.
It was pretty cool watching Silver Crow vs Dusk Taker.
Nomi sure had a lot of aces up his sleeve.
That Gale Thruster made a lot of difference, but Taku's assistance did the trick.
OMG, is Chiyu a traitor now or what?? That was a shocker!

But then Chiyu showed up and healed him. Goddammit.

Yay, Kuroyukihime in a bikini.

Annoyingly, this arc isn't over yet. I didn't expect it to be throughout the episode, and Taku and Haru's "victory" chat pretty much screamed "premature" but I'm still annoyed we have to suffer through another episode with Noumi. I can only hope Kuroyukihime was somehow present and hiding around when the Battle Royale invite went out as well.

This arc better end with Kuroyukihime coming back post-haste after realizing something was wrong during her conversation with Haru, kicking Noumi's ass and then chewing everyone else out. Preferably after beating them around a bit as well.

- And just as we're almost fucking rid of this awful, awful character, Chiyu heals him up. If she's doing this because she's "upset they're taking a game too seriously" I'm going to scream.

I'm pretty sure she did it because of the real world leverage Noumi would still hold over her and the damage he could do to a whole bunch of people with his locker room videos regardless of Haru and Taku defeating him here. Sweet, no Nomi and tons of KYH - loving her casual clothes. Megumi and the two kids were fun too. Of course KYH should have repaid Megumi with some hot sex after forgetting to buy her a present.

The nice thing is that this arc will continue which delays the inevitable - finishing off Nomi. Looking forward to the next episode.

- Let's take a break from Nomi and go to Okinawa.
- Forget boating. Even in Okinawa, Brain Burst is important.
- And if KYH sits out, so does Megumi.
- Time for some shopping, and for some Brain Burst.
- There are Burst Linkers even in Okinawa, but none as good as Black Lotus.
- So Ruka and Mana are meeting with KYH to make a request.
- They don't quite understand the unwritten rules, but now they need some help.
- About that present for Megumi, KYH forgot it.
- Next day, it is time to meet the master. Long time, no see Crikin.

While it is great to see an episode focusing on KYH, it comes at a time when the current arc remains unresolved, and a pretty irritating one at that. This show has been going downhill ever since KYH went off to Okinawa. It would not have been nearly as bad if it was a quick arc, and Nomi was defeated in the previous episode. But the fight with Nomi continues and with no resolution coming for a couple of weeks minimum, all while this arc plays out. At the pace this show is going, a second season is a must considering that I'm not expecting KYH's problem to be solved by the end of this season.

Oh man, this episode was fantastic. Why can't every episode be this awesome? Oh, right, because the show insists on repeatedly minimizing Kuroyukihime's role. I can only hope the ED is an indication that the final arc will rectify that problem.

Anyway, Ruka and Mana are adorable. Boy, they both sure seemed to enjoy "plugging in" with Kuroyukihime and were quite impressed with her beauty upon meeting her. And I'm pretty sure Mana's "trance" makes her horny.

Megumi/Kuroyukihime heart-to-heart in the hotel room was really, really nice. ;_; Best emotional scene since.... fuck, since KYH sacrificed herself in the first arc.

Why is Kuroyukihime not the lead character? This episode just goes to show that this show would be so much better with her as the actual goddamn lead. Fucking male lead syndrome. Worse, unless this issue ties back to what's going on with Noumi, she pretty much made a point that she doesn't intend to go back and help with Haru's problem, whatever it is.

Also...

- Stop talking Haru. I don't even want to hear narration from you right now. I want to pretend this isn't even the same show I've been watching the past month or so.
- Oh my god I love Megumi. Make Hime squeal!

- We so better get Burst Linker Megumi. I'm guessing the OP has already shown it, but I usually skip the OP.
- And a duel. I want Megumi to be a Burst Linker, but not some player who has a grudge against Kuroyukihime.
- Oh my. These two poor poor girls. They have no idea who they just challenged.
- Heh. KYH didn't even need to try.

- Awwww, KYH has found some middle school fangirls. So cute.
- ...;_; Poor Megumi. She's so into KYH.
- Need more KYH/Megumi backstory! NEED IT NOW! Even if they're just building up to a generic "I only approached you to spy on you and then gradually came to like you" storyline, it's sooooo fucking cute. Megumi and KYH are already ten times the couple KYH and Haru would ever be.

- Heh, the fangirls make naughty noises when cabling.
- And, uh, Mana goes into a trance. o_O I kept thinking they were going to backstab KYH here.
- ::looks at runtime:: Oooh! Is this going to go for more than one episode? Fuck I hope so. I want Noumi over ASAP but this is too good to end in one ep.
- And of course KYH knows the guy.

Goddamnit AW. Why isn't this the next major arc instead? I'm guessing it'll end in one more ep, but at least it's more than one ep!

More Hiyama! In this, he's another cheater like our beloved Nomi, and he's got himself a dragon. The screw guy can actually turn into a ridiculously giant mecha, but even that isn't quite enough. Then, Megumi shows up, the spirit of one of the girls shows up, along with a book, reminding Megumi about an unsurprising past she had connected to this world. I guess that explains why she needed to have another cable; she must have somehow planned this. In-game, Megumi is kind of a magical girl, who shows up only to turn the field into an ocean, making screw guy sink, but the girls are made for water, and in it, they beat the cheating asshole easily, and Kuroyukihime gets the reigns. Megumi apparently remembers nothing. This episode introduces a whole lot of mystery and questions. Some of it seemed too contrived, but it has me extremely curious to see where all of this will go and whether or not they'll be able to prove me wrong.

So, we get a giant robot and a magical girl in this episode. Awesome. The fight was pretty fun. Well, this little arc has been really fun and good distraction from the terribleness that'll probably continue next episode.

But, what? That was really bizarre that Megumi just appeared for that short moment during the battle with Sulfur Pot. I love her duel avatar though. I know the anime probably won't get around to explaining it, but I wonder if the light novels do - was Megumi a burst linker in the past? Does she not use it anymore? Is the program just dormant?

Thought: So, Crikin, gives the reins item to KYH and she doesn't know what to do with it. I wonder if it'll come in handy in the future, if and when, the armor of catastrophe takes over Haru. Reminds of RPGs, when you get some random item you think you don't need, but then it turns out you do need it for some quest in the future.

KYH's "hanyahh" when Megumi massages her is such a cute squeak.

BUt, why must this arc be episodes 18 and 19...if I actually want to buy the show just for these two episodes, I have to buy two volumes that sandwich the Nomi arc in-between them. Grr....

- So that's how Crimson Kingbolt ended up in Okinawa. His parents divorced and he ended up there.
- And a beast appears, having been tamed by Sulfur Pot.
- Just like Nomi, Sulfur Pot is using an illegal back door program to hide his presence, and to be in Okinawa remotely from Tokyo.
- Crikin is a Transformer. Pot, it's time you met your match.
- So the fire won't scratch him, but fire boosted by gunpowder will.
- Back in the real world, Megumi finds KYH sleeping with the kids.
- And making a magical girl entrance is Orchid Oracle. Magical Girl Megumi saves the day.
- Can't use fire when underwater. Time to bust this Pot.
- Sulfur Pot, that beast won't listen to you without that saddle.
- Crikin may have sunk, but he is still standing.
- Sulfur Pot's power-up might come in handy someday. Take it, KYH.
- Time to leave Okinawa.

With this, the side arc is finished and it is a very nice one that focuses on KYH, and Megumi as well. Seeing that there is a wave of cheating going on with the back door program that allows Linkers go be present on the Brain Burst program without being detected that it sets up the stage for something really big in the final episodes. It's good to see KYH getting more focus this time around, something that had been greatly lacking for most of this show, and especially during the Nomi arc. And after a nice break, it's back to the dreaded Nomi arc. The first half is awesome, but the second half has been terrible for the most part, and the only episodes that were nice are those without Nomi in them (and all but the last two minutes of episode 17). This arc is way too long and he doesn't seem like the type of person on some kind of conquest to justify all that screen time. Not to mention, all of this is happening with KYH out of the picture. Now if she were on the front lines with Haru trying to beat that douchebag into submission, it would be a much better story arc.

With the way this show is pacing, I could see the Nomi arc lasting two more episodes (all before KYH makes is back), and then the last three episodes will involve Yuniko and her kitty maid in some extensive capacity. I am thinking it will focus on the Chrome Disaster virus that found its way to Silver Crow, either that or it's something that has to do with the band of back door cheaters. Given how much left there is to tell and considering that the ultimate goal is to meet the Brain Burst creator, there needs to be a second season.

Hey, look, Armor of Catastrophe is being activated by Haru's anger. Too bad the match had to end. I really wanted to see Noumi go down as fast as possible.

I have to wonder if Chiyu's reason to heal Noumi during the battle is actually true or not or she's being manipulated by him. Something is up - maybe she'll backstab Noumi later at a more opportune time? At least Haru seems to have some resolve now. Good for him - it should definitely help him during the upcoming battles.

But, FUCK YOU NOUMI. FUCK YOU! He fucks with Haru with that fake surveillance camera bullshit. At least Haru is taking it in stride and dealing with it. But, FUCK YOU NOUMI.

Noumi must have threatened her with something in the real world that she can't deal with. My assumption is that it must have been blackmail over Haru, that would have made things even worse for him than they are. I like how he's dealing with this knowing he's endured it before but now with resolve rather than fear.

Take what Taku and Haru are planning and add Chiyu possibly backstabing Noumi after he has let his guard down. That's one scenario.

There are some things here that could make for decent events or developments, particularly in Haru's character arc, but its allworthless because the entire arc is basically shit at this point.

The direction it briefly suggested it was going with Chiyu could be potentially interesting, with her choosing to ally herself with an enemy of Haru and Taku. But its terrible here because its Noumi and she's just getting in the way of this arc ending. And the show has pretty much said that its going to undo that potentially interesting development anyway, with all this stuff about how she wouldn't really do that and what her real reasons are.

At least we had a little bit of Kuroyukihime.
