This month was rather small again but oddly expensive.

BD:

Nisemonogatari - Karen Bee Part One

CD:

ClariS Birthday - Limited Edition w/DVD
To The Beginning by Kalafina - Anime Edition w/DVD

Books:

Hayate no Gotoku! Life Saver!
Medaka Box vol. 1 - 15

PC / Visual Novel:

Mahōtsukai no Yoru / The Witch on the Holy Night by Type-Moon

That's it really. It's a small batch but rather expensive. Postage costs a lot of money, and putting customs charges on top of that makes it even worse. A good example would be Mahōtsukai no Yoru which I special ordered from CDJapan, the item was £60 or so, add the service fee and shipping costs and it came to around £83 iirc. They emailed me and said the postage needed to be bumped a little due to the weight so it totalled at £101. Hits the UK and I get a £29 customs charge. So that little visual novel which costs £60 on Amazon cost me £130 from CDJapan. Fun experience, I'll say that much.

A huge month for me once again... 舞-HiME COMPLETE / 舞-乙HiME COMPLETE were not planned couple of days ago but... I played the Bandai DVDs and said... "it doesn't look good at all..." Then I remembered that there was a release with subtitles in Japan, I was still hesitating to buy it... When I read Oh, and aside from that, it's not an upscale! Yes, really. Probably the usual soft looking 720P level of detail. 1080i video, but who cares at this point.

I am pleased!!!

If you like this show, this is the best release it's likely to get. well it was definitely the final push I needed. I bought it and like hissatsu said: "I am pleased!!!" ^___^

Last time, I talked about how impressed I was with the quality of the doujins. These ended up being pretty much what I was expecting the first time, which was slightly disappointing after being spoiled on those GUNP books. I was also disappointed to find that two of them were not really Homura/Kyouko at all, which I had been expecting based on the covers. I think I'm the only person in the world that likes the idea of that pairing.

Anyway, those 10 doujins ended up costing me $165 dollars, $55 dollars more than the batch I ordered directly from Manga-Oh, despite only costing 162 yen more before shipping and weighing a similar amount. I can't say I regret it, but man, that stings and pisses me off. Fuck you, Toranoana.

My two doujin orders ended up costing me over $250. I won't be ordering any more for a while. And I'm going to need to really, really, really want something to go through that trouble and cost with Toranoana again. Or find a better middleman, cuz frankly, SMJ is a rip-off for this kind of thing.

Furthermore, right after Amazon shipped my order with those Sasameki Koto volumes, I discovered that Amazon had them as a 'set', which would have saved me 2400 yen in shipping due to only being one item instead of 9. That was annoying.

On a brighter note, my Yuuki Aoi ear porn finally arrived, and I'm not talking about the character CD. I haven't listened to it yet, but what better way is there to practice Japanese and maybe help make a long flight more bearable than to listen to Yuuki Aoi teach me Japanese history?

That's why I like to browse through the doujinshi database to check out previews of doujin I would want to buy (the site is usually pretry good about giving at least a 2 page preview) since Im pretty picky with what I like.

That's not too terrible. That's about what I pay buying doujinshi whenever I go to a convention.

How much was SMJ's fees to buy and ship the doujin to you?

I need to resist, but I still would love to buy from Today and try to use BiJ's forwarding service to help cut down on costs.

Sena Kashiwazaki COSPA dakimakura
I didn't know this existed until right at the end of April when it was already starting to ship. (This is what I get for procrastinating on watching things...)

By that time everywhere was long since sold out on preorders...except HLJ, which still had the twill-knit one orderable, so I slammed the order button for that at maximum speed. Got the shipping notice today. (Although now it looks like there's going to be another batch anyway.)

Previously when there was an option, I've always ordered "smooth knit," so I guess I'll finally do an actual comparison with twill. Although I have a couple that don't say what the knit is, so for all I know they're already twill.

Well, Toranoana usually has at least two as well. The thing is, what I'm looking for isn't necessarily going to be apparent from that.

How much was SMJ's fees to buy and ship the doujin to you?
From the first invoice:
Amount (product cost from Toranoana, pre-shipping): 5692
Exchange rate: 77 (it was actually around 81-82 at this time)
SMJ Ship: 1910
Fees: $8.00
Processing: $31.00
Total: $137.75

I thought that was it. I thought that "SMJ Ship" was the amount to ship it from them to me. But no, its not. After about two weeks, it seemed like the package should have arrived already, so I re-read the e-mail and found that I needed to go to the website and do something to have them actually ship it, which cost another $28.05. I don't understand how or why they paid 1910 yen to ship domestically, so I think they might have ripped me off with that charge.

I'd have to look into what their site says about the various fees again, because the part I saw just mentioned a $10 fee for the first item, and $2 for every item after that, which would come out to $28. So I don't know how they got those "Fees" and "Processing" amounts.

That is pretty crazy with all the fees. Those numbers do not add up. Did you email them to ask how they arrived at some of those numbers?

It feels rougher than the smooth knit version. I usually order twill since its cheaper and I normally don't use any of my purchased dakimakura (Sena might become the exception).

Now I wait for COSPA to do a Kobato dakimakura...lol.
