AKB0048 BD/DVD to Include 1st Episode's Director's Cut
posted on 2012-05-06 22:33 EDT

The first Blu-ray Disc/DVD volume of the idol science-fiction anime AKB0048 will include a director's cut of the first episode when it ships on June 27. The first volume will also include a box for all the anime's volumes, bonus video extras, a 16-page booklet featuring interviews with voice actresses Karen Iwata (Nagisa) and Akema Kanda (Yūko), an outer sleeve illustrated by character designer Risa Ebata, and packaging illustrated by Ebata.

The first volume will have one episode, while the remaining four monthly volumes will have three episodes each. Every volume will have a 16-page booklet and an event ticket application form. (Buyers must collect the forms all from five volumes and mail them away to get a ticket for the event.) The fifth volume will also bundle a soundtrack CD.

Wow, they're going for an insanely discounted Vol. 1. If it comes with an exclusive single it's going to move like 100k units. :sd:

Yeah this could be Working! vol. 1 times three because of this price.

I can think of one at the moment: Supernatural: The Animation, Vol.1 (http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B003XE6JXC) (BD; 46 minutes): 554yen after discount @ Amazon Japan.

It's also interesting that the discount is only 10%. I wonder if its due to the price. Maybe they won't do a pre-order discount more than 10% if its below a certain price, like 3000 yen.

The MSRP of the first volume of Nana was kind of a gimmick release at only ¥707 (77=nana) and it sold like 60k because of it.

Only 5 volumes? Obviously 2-5 cost more but it's still very cheap overall, like other recent King Records releases (Mouretsu, PapaKiki):
AKB0048 VOL.01 [Blu-ray] 2100円(税込)
AKB0048 VOL.02 [Blu-ray] 7350円(税込)
AKB0048 VOL.03 [Blu-ray] 7350円(税込)
AKB0048 VOL.04 [Blu-ray] 7350円(税込)
AKB0048 VOL.05 [Blu-ray] 8400円(税込)

And if you buy all the volumes you get an event ticket... Most series do it if you buy just one volume but AKB is making sure people buy them all. Lol I think they've done everything they can to ensure sales are completely insanely high. Vol. 1 peaked all the way at #8 (with only Unicorn and K-ON! ahead of it) before the Amazon listing was pulled.

Evangelion, your crown is in jeopardy.

(I'm kidding.)

This should be very interesting to watch the sales of each volume. Sales should be extremely stupid high since fans need to buy each volume to fill out the forms to get the event ticket.

I want to say 100K sales? lol.

I wonder what % of the volumes sold will be sold only because there is a ticket if you buy them all...

Oddly enough, maybe not so odd, HMV has volume listed at 23% off (what looks to be standard King Records discount) if you buy something else with it. 15% off if bought just alone.
