So many anime rely on characters transforming but in most honestly after you have seen the sequence a few times it gets a little old...Utena the stairs my lord the stairs...sailor moon...but surly there are some that did it right where after you saw it once you actually looked forward to seeing it again...

I can only think of one though. Arjuna...show got a little to anti technology for me pretty quickly but I actually felt cheated when the transformation sequence was shortened later...my was it beautiful and wonderful. Amazingly I can't find a good version of the long first transformation sequence on you-tube. Best I can find is here.

Shout out to the animators and music for this show..so wonderful. (but then Yoko Kano was involved so not a surprise)

Anyone else have shows where the transformation sequences are this good?

Anything from Madoka Magica.

And Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEpy0znKHWs) because of the music, the shift in art, the oversexuality, and the sheer bizarreness of the entire thing when you see it for the first time. It was truly something.

I know this is not what you are talking about but anytime anyone mentions good transformation sequences that you never get tired of the only thing I can think of is Production I.G.'s Reideen. A full quarter of that show is transformation sequences ranging from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. The adult in me knows this is stupid. It can take Reideen close to 5 minutes to finish all his summoning sequences and be ready for battle but the little kid in me who used to love Transformers can't get enough of this and jumps up and down in glee. I honestly think the villains wait on Reideen because they enjoy the transformations too!

This is Reideens summoning sequence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV948GF3ml4&feature=relmfu.

And one of my favorites the God Bird. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quse7YoyAEA

He has a transformation sequence for every single weapon and ability and I never get tired of watching them. I actually got annoyed when they started shortening them to get in more actual combat time.

thats actually exactly what I am talking about lester those are nice! I've always assumed they are happening really fast we just get to see it slowed down so we can observe it ;)

Not in this show. Everything is done in slow motion godzilla/thundrbirds style fashion. If Reideen has to be summoned, fly to the monster of the week and pull out a weapon that is easily 5 minutes. He also has a support team of Japanese mecha who have their own thunderbirds like loading, transport and preparation for battle sequence. The whole thing can take up over half the episode! I should be annoyed or mad at this but I eat it all up.

I actually get quite upset late in the second half when they shorten the sequences to get in more combat against the tougher foes. The transformation sequences are largely why the monster of the week takes 2 episodes to defeat.

I would say Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha has the best transformation sequences. It pays great attention to detail.

right but do we see any indication in the world that it takes that long? I mean even in something like sailor moon it takes long enough for someone to get an attack out..so I always assumed in the world of the show it happens really fast but we get to see it slower (of course I am looking for logic in a fantasy anime so yeah..)

No. the transformation sequences happen in real time. It is not a problem in world because the enemies are equally large and slow and the support mechas are also large and slow, sort of like a godzilla movie.
