Not going to pay pay an extra 15000 yen for the Amazon exclusive version (at least not without pics), but I might bite if they later give it the standard 20% discount for Amazon exclusives. Guess I'll go ahead and pre-order both it and the LE for the time being and cancel one or the other later.

Judging from previous Bandai's record, don't expect them to appear :/ It sucks, I know but I really doubt they'll add them.
EDIT: I'm so flippin excited :D I actually tweeted last week that I think Cowboy Bebop BD-BOX will be released very very soon judging from certain things happening and a week later, voila :p

Specs: 4:3 1080i (hmm... not sure if they screwed this one up or not)
It might actually end up being that. I've long since sold off the 5.1 HD remaster DVDs, but I seem to remember them being encoded progressively except for the ED credits. It would be an incredibly stupid reason for the whole thing to be in 1080i, but it's certainly not without precedent (OreImo BDs, different company but still).

Well, I really like the series. But, it's a relatively old series. I have too many to buy before going buy to a show this old. Curious to know how it will looks though.

America, get to it! Honestly, Cowboy Bebop on Blu-ray is something I would consider spending hundreds of dollars on if it was never going to be released over here, but not with no subs or dub. Even with Bandai gone, I can't imagine this not making its way over. Or at least that's what I really want to believe.

If a company wants a ton of money then they have to release this. Cowboy Bebop has such a huge reach to more than just anime fans, and I completely agree that there is no way this wont get a western release eventually. I'm just curious as to who'll release it. I imagine Bandai still has the rights to Cowboy Bebop.

FUNimation already licensed Akira, so there's no telling when more Bandai stuff will start being up for grabs. The Remix set is going OOP, right? And anyway, it would be possible for a different company to license the Blu-ray rights, since Bandai can't do it anymore, and just releasing it on Blu-ray in America is sure to print money, right?

Yeah, you're right Funimation did just get Akira, but from what I can tell the Remix collection is still in stock on Amazon and TRSI, no counters or anything. So it's a possibility that Bandai still has the rights to Cowboy Bebop but I can't really say for sure. But if they don't have the license, well who knows who'll get the rights to a Blu-ray release, but someone will.

Well, they can still have the rights for the DVDs. But, another company can have the rights for the Blu-ray. (i.e. Baccano!)

Certainly, but I wonder if that's the same for Bandai Visual. Aniplex has Blu-ray rights to Baccano! because it's an Aniplex title, but can Bandai Ent have Cowboy Bebop DVD rights and say Sentai or Funimation have the Blu-ray rights? Such a thing hasn't been done yet as far as I know, but it'll be certainly interesting to see how this does get a western release.

Ah...welp, guess I'll stop waiting around for my reply :< Was it one of those seemingly scripted responses? I got pretty much the exact same response when inquiring about subtitles on Gunbuster and Escaflowne.
It's really a fucking shame...they do away with a perfectly fine North American branch and now we are left with no hope for titles like this. I'm buying it regardless but it looks like only I will be getting enjoyment from it. There is no way in hell I could convince any of my friends to sit through an episode in Japanese. I hate watching shows like this by myself.

It's not upscale. They did the HD remaster when they did the DVD-BOX. By the way, hate to break it to you but Korean remaster box (not the 5.1ch box but the one came out after) is bootleg.

Same here, I'd so buy CB yet again for a BD with the dub (and sub), man do I hope they can work it out.
Funi seems the most likely I guess given that they've had the most luck/pull picking up huge but expensive old titles like the Geneon stuff (Hellsing, Trigun, Black Lagoon, etc.).

Ack, a bootleg? Crap :( Bloody Nova/DVD Ani, I should have known. I just bought my first Korean DVDs in years and it seems almost all of them are bootlegs! What happened over there? I wont be buying anymore, that's for sure.
As for Bebop, the fact that they did do a HD remaster is the reason I find the 1080i thing strange. Maybe it's as Buster Darkwings said, the ending animation is 30fps so the whole thing has to be 1080i? That would suck and be a terrible waste of such a lovely remaster. It should be gorgeous on blu because it was a 35mm show IIRC.

There was an anime bubble period in Korea, too, and when it collapsed, some companies just printed DVDs unlicensed. Many got duped (I got duped once, too :/ Trigun). I think Korean anime Blu-ray releases are legit for now, or at least that's what I heard.
Regarding BD-BOX, I did ask Bandai about 1080i but they didn't reply (they replied to my Eng sub/dub question so it seems like they are ignoring my question). It could be 30fps CG issue but Escaflowne was 1080p, which also had CG parts and produced in the close time period.
*p.s: Where did you get the information about 35mm?

Well that explains a lot re the Korean releases. I did buy the Korean BDs of Madoka Magika, they should be here today or tomorrow. They look great and I will certainly keep an eye out for other BD releases. At least the GE999 TV box is legit, it has TOEI logo's and license info on it. The releases certainly are high quality and nothing like traditional bootlegs (the Bebop box is the same as the Jp packaging wise) but I just can't buy unlicensed products with a clear conscience, haha.
I thought the same thing about the CG in Bebop and then also thought of Escaflowne being 1080p. Thankfully, Macross 7 is also listed as 1080p and it too has bits of CG.
I *think* the show is referred to as being 35mm in Session 0 when they mention how expensive it is. Either that, or I read it somewhere. It certainly *looks* like 35mm film rather than 16mm with the fine grain the remaster has. It looks nothing like other Bandai HD remasters from a similar period such as Gundam W.

Like I said here (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showpost.php?p=1403299&postcount=30), the CG was still encoded progressively at 23.976fps in the HD Remaster DVDs, it's just the credits which are interlaced (didn't check all eps though). But they're paged (not scrolling) and the ED just has still pictures so it should be easy enough to make everything look exactly the same in 1080p...
But of course, BV are idiots when it comes to things like this. They drop frames in the CG shots of Zegapain to make it 1080p, but god forbid they mess with still images and paged credits...

Hopefully these are indeed because of the 1080i messing up the method used to take screenshots and the jaggies aren't baked into the masters. But if they are, at least the Anime Mode on my Panasonic BD recorder should mostly eliminate them, as it did for Nadesico. Raistlin also made an AviSynth filter that might work on Bebop: http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showpost.php?p=1989213&postcount=24

I think that's actually a pretty bad example. The jaggies there are from it being an SD CG scene with a whole lot of straight lines to show that lack of resolution off. Any aliasing due to poor encoding would be a lot less noticeable than that.
Anyhow, got the box now and I'm very happy with the video quality. Whoever took that batch of screenshots must have had no deinterlacing of any kind running, because it never looks that bad for me, even when paused for a screenshot.
Here are some screenshots to compare with the first batch. A lot less aliasing, and during playback there is none of it. I think most people shouldn't have issues.

Don't anyone expect a DVD/BD comparison from me, because I sold off my Bebop DVDs long ago in expectation of a BD box.

Much better. Thanks for the screenshots. I'm satisfied with the PQ. It's just too bad that I currently don't have the entertainment system set-up to enjoy it fully :/

They're pretty obvious in this shot: https://imageshack.us/a/img833/112/lib615261.jpg
I think that's actually a pretty bad example. The jaggies there are from it being an SD CG scene with a whole lot of straight lines to show that lack of resolution off. Any aliasing due to poor encoding would be a lot less noticeable than that.
Oh yeah, forgot about the CG. That makes sense then. I'll be looking forward to my set.

This box brings back so many memories. Not just the anime itself, but the retro packaging designs (especially the disc labels that resemble various CD designs) and the fact that they re-did the old Tron-style Emotion animation in HD. (I could've sworn they had switched to the Emotion animation with the green grass blowing in the wind by the time Cowboy Bebop came out, though). I was getting kind of sick of the Honneamise animation anyways, hopefully Emotion is back for good.

First hand packaging shots would be great, Buster.

I only have an old cell phone camera, and there's probably some pics on the internet somewhere already.

Enjoy the "bru-rays" as 3 of the 7 BDs claim to be.

Hmm... I not sure I even own any films with the green-grass-blowing-in-the-wind logo in HD. Can you name any?

I don't think so, but I was under the impression that before this, all Emotion animations had simply been switched out for Honneamise ones for Blu-ray. I could be wrong, though.
