KyoAni uploaded the episode 1 preview (http://youtu.be/e-SiOKQOUz4) to Youtube.

In addition, today's radio show previews (http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm19021046) the real OP (Sparkling Daydream) and ED (INSIDE IDENITY). You can hear the OP at 10:45 and the ED at 28:00.

Quite different from the novel. At the moment, it'd be simpler to say that only about four scenes/concepts were kept from the novel. The dialogue itself changed. My initial impression of the episode was "Whoa. This feels different, yet somewhat similar."

Overall, I feel the general characteristics of that characters were kept (with one big exception, but I'm not spoiling that in an anime thread). Everyone sounds as I expected them to. Would've liked more Nibutani (and one scene specifically), but what can I say? I enjoyed it, though I'd have to re-watch it once it becomes more comfortable and natural to me to offer a better opinion.

This is definitely a KyoAni original series. Outside of characteristics, it's original to Ishihara/Hanada in my eyes.

You know, when I look forward to a KyoAni anime, I anticipate fantastic OPs and EDs. This show has neither. The OP nearly gave me a seizure and the song is really generic. Although, the OP has some immensely GIFable scenes. The ED is just meh.
Anyway, the show itself it great. Rikka is so adorble. Fukuyama Jun is great as Yuuta, I didn't think he'd pull it off, but he did. I said it in the other thread, but there's a little Yui Hirasawa in Rikka.
Gungnir? Hahahaha.
And is that the girl from Baka & Test in their class?

Oh, god this was an unbelievably fun episode to watch. So much of it made me laugh. The episode is also very screencappble and animated giffable. I like the Konami code, or at least part of it, was referenced - I can see that as a special code to unlock something for someone who has chuunibyou as that code is legendary.

I love Yuuta's past as the Dark Flame Master - essentially he was being Kirito with that sword and "weird coat." Very fun character overall trying to live a normal high school life and conceal his past.

Rikka is super cute. I love her when she speaks in chuunibyou. The interaction of the two is a sight to behold - they work off of each other very, very well.

Excellent first episode. Definitely looking forward to next week. I know it's early, but I think this is a lock for an import.

That was really fun. Rikka was alternately hilarious and cute in her earnestness. She's down right adorable. I loved it when her contact fell out. His pounding on her got annoying though. If they can keep up this level it's going to be a keeper.

OP music is pretty forgettable and my god, the left-right alternating thing is incredibly obnoxious. On the positive side, there was Rikka doing that twirly fingers thing at one point. But yeah, didn't like the OP much otherwise.

ED was much better in both music and visuals. Not going down as one of my favorites, but it was enjoyable to watch and listen to. The end card was very cute.

Anyway, as for the episode itself, it was a pretty good intro. The first episode didn't blow me away but it was very good and seems like its very much setting up for the show to do something next time. Lot's of Rikka being cute and amusing. I probably shouldn't have found Yuuta whacking Rikka in the face repeatedly (http://gifkastel.tumblr.com/post/32853160134/chu2koi) as amusing as I did.

Also very much enjoyed Kuzuha in her very little screentime. Nibutani's pretty cute too.

I've been stoked for this show ever since I first saw Rikka's character design, and the first PV proved that I was right to be excited about this and drastically increased my anticipation. I've been pretty much considering this show a lock for importing and this episode did nothing to hurt that. Looking forward to see where things go next time.

Let's go self-plagiarized stream of consciousness for first impressions.

No!!! Don't throw out all your toys!

That was a rather... unique first encounter. Loved the sakura (I like cliches)

OP is trippy. Song starts at neutral--can I have the amazing promo PV op instead?

There are a lot of cute shots of Rikka and not-Rikkas in the OP--but the style is just so off putting

Imouto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rikka casts "open!" Rewinds. Rewinds again. This is so awesome! If I still took the metro, It'd totally try this (not really).

Rikka's smirk is so awesome/cute! Mou ikkai!

Annoying friend is already starting to annoy me... Grr. Don't understand the whole go to school check out girls thing.

Someone get Rikka an online roleplay account!

Yuuta is kind of childish in his desire to act like an adult.

ED will have to grow on me. I infinitely prefer the PV

Overall, Rikka was adorable and the show was funny/cute.I have mixed feelings about Yuuta. He was cute at times and while I liked him helping Rikka move, I thought he could be a bit more nice/understanding. Hopefully, he grows to embrace that being different is OK and not Rikka growing to become normal.

I enjoyed the first episode. The second time Yuuta hit Rikka kind of bothered me (even though it was clearly over-exaggerated, painless cartoon violence). I'm not necessarily concerned with having mixed feelings about Yuuta since many male leads start that way in KyoAni adaptions (but,as they change, I eventually grow to like them).

But wow, the PV OP/ED were god-tier and these are OK at best. This may be the first time I'll be buying a aniCD for the b-side...

-Fourteen sick? Yes yes. Unfortunetally I am familiar with the term Chuu2 anime. :\
-Gothic lolita cat burglar is still learning the trade.
-STOP FLIPPING SIDES OF THE SCREEN SO FAST! Gonna give me a headache OP. Fansubs trying to follow the blinking isn't helping any either.
-Why would you dress a cat like that? You horrible monster.
-Main character is a recovering goth with an all too familiar voice.
-No. No main character who's name I haven't remembered yet even if you just said it. No fate is not pulling you in that direction. Fate has other ideas for you. Sillier ideas.
-Far far sillier...
-Misaki Mei clone has a laser eye. Wonder if she's related to the Summers (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111102163719/marveldatabase/images/8/84/Summers_anime.jpg) family.
-"Our dark souls are soulmates soul brother."
-Teacher assisted social status suicide.
-I can't decide if the roller shoes make her cuter or provide more potential for madness.
-How would you know the Konami code little girl? Games haven't used that in your life time.
-"I like to suck down Mr Peter. It's like magic."
-"Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow." hehehehe
-She has alot of cra-- *glances at shelves* She has an admirable collections in those boxes.
-IMOUTO BLAAAADE! Dawww.

That was okay. Which for a KyoAni show feels wrong. For a KyoAni first episode to feel just "okay" is weird. Except for the physical comedy in the nurse's office, Rikka being smacked & imouto with a sword it's already fading from memory.

Hey, it got subbed so why not watch it now?

This opening/ending are amazing. Shame it wasn't used for the actual show. Rikka was adorable when she got hit by the volleyball, when her magic seal got smudged, when she got hit by the baseball, with her extreme volleyball magically move, balancing the volleyball on her umbrella... OK everything she did was cute.

Middle school Rikka! So cute...

Oh, lol. So Rikka started being chuuni about her arm because she hurt it?

Rikka, in stories like those, Tomo would die right after you say that line.

Oh, lol. Rikka is almost in a full body cast. So I wonder if she started being chuuni because she's kind of clumsy.

Well, seems to me that KyoAni has another winner here, and not just because they have succeeded once again in portraying adorable little sisters and an awesome mother.

Rikka's chuunibyou mannerisms are funny, but those moments when she (temporarily) acts more like a teenage girl are ridiculously cute. Probably because they contrast so much with her chuunibyou side. Kinda reminds me of Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko in that way, I guess.

Meanwhile, Yuuta inflicting various comic violence on Rikka reminded me of Chiaki and Nodame.

It'll be interesting to see how (or if) Yuuta will be able to reconcile his "embarrassing" past with his current self. Not throwing away his stuff might be a start. It'll also be interesting to see how those other girls get roped into all of this.

Definitely will be following this.

Yeah, based on the Lite 1 and 2 I'd say she's somewhat of a klutz. I'm guessing that she'll be able to do odd things that others can't but normal stuff like catching a ball will be difficult for her.

Episode 1:

- Hey, they gave a good explanation of chuunibyou for anyone starting this and not knowing.
- Ahaha. the first thing you see of Rikka, besides her eye, is ZETTAI RYOUIKI! <3
- Oh god what an introduction. Awesome.
- Ah yes the much discussed OP. Uh, it really didn't bother me. I think the left/right swaps could have been slowed down slightly, but there were some really cool effects with it. Not a top tier KyoAni OP, but I'll watch it each time.

- IMOUTOOOOOOO! Love her at first sight. Because she's a mature imouto. Mature imoutos are one of my favorite character archetypes ever, alognside down-to-earth ojou-samas. And Fukuhara Kaori at that!
- Imouto with giant sword!
- Double imouto! And a cute mom. KyoAni loves cute moms.

- Enter cute classmate! <3 Akasaki Chinatsu.
- And then his heart stops as Rikka walks by. :sd:
- "It opened!" Oh that satisfied look on Rikka's face...
- AND THAT FUCKING STRUT. You will never be as cool as Rikka. Give up now.

- Yuuta seals his Dark Flame Master. Rikka sees. Rikka knows. You cannot escape Rikka.
- Yuuta resolves to get in good with Shinka. But then... the Rikkapolypse.
- Heh, shes great mimicing his poses.
- Wow, absolutelt in love with Rikka's reactions. The fact that she's not always in character makes both her in and out of character reactions better. She'll go from totally chuunibyou-ing one moment to totally not the next, and the changes feel so natural.
- And there's another great example, how she goes from UNVEILING HER EYES OF SOMETHING OR OTHER to losing her contact.
- EYEDROPS! Cutest eyedrops since Lucky Star.
- Her every mannerism gives me heart attacks. Heart attacks every few seconds. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

- Heh, poor Yuuta, loses his chance to do something normal. You are bound to Rikka, forever!
- That ahoge. <3
- Ahaha, Rikka getting karate chopped is much funnier than it should be. I think I like it because it triggers her personality to shift momentarily out of chuu2. And the difference between the two is where my moe manifests!

- Heh, Rikka is over for dinner and mom is already trying to set Yuuta up. ALso, I would kill to see Rikka and Kuzuha become friends...
- Speaking of imouto, smaller imouto! With large sword!
- Pouty mom. <3

- And awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww adorable Rikka in the rain. Fantastic scene.

Oh and I didn't mention it, but FukuJun is every bit as perfect in this role as we knew he would be. And Uchida Maaya is fantastic.

Fuuuuuuuck yes that was incredible. And the ED is incredible too. This show is everything I could have hoped for and Rikka is even more. So good.

Priestess's.....Melody

When I read the thoughts from the pre-airing, I was spoiled on the fact that there was a delusional battle in episode 2 and that the people in attendance absolutely loved it. It has been a painful three week wait for this episode to air not only so I could see it, but so I could finally talk about it.

Coming into this series, I had read many many many comments from the international fandom about "why won't KyoAni do action?" After reading the first novel, I felt those concerns could easily be answered in this series, especially with how different in tone it would be from Hyouka. This episode was what I was wanting from that aspect. At the same time, it's still Kyoto Animation. We have a nice ordinary beginning with Rikka's hilariously named watering device into ordinary school life with Nibutani. It's just taken to a hilarious extent with the Takanashi delusional battle.

Toka is interesting. There's many ways that Ishihara/Hanada could take her and I don't know exactly what they're aiming to achieve with her around. I'm adopting a wait-and-see approach before judging her too harshly based on the ladle attacks.

Overall, I was quite pleased with the episode. It built upon last week's introduction with more Nibutani and introducing Kumin Tsuyuri/Toka Takanashi. At the same time, we had a new plot introduced and summed up in the same episode giving a feel-good conclusion. Suffice to say, this is all anime-original material (outside of Isshiki's ranking idea) which pleases me. We're now through all the material the PV showed us in August and the CM last month (with the exception of one quick cut of Dekomori). I'm looking forward to more Chuunibyou tomorrow/next week.

That was just a fun episode. Rikka holding onto Yuuta (book bag, sleeve, coat) is a move I always find cute. So we get to meet Toka and her Ladle of Darkness and she has a geas on Yuuta due to his past and the evidence on a recorder. We also got to see the Mauser that is in the OP of the Lite videos. Kumin found everything exciting and I think she's going to be an interesting addition and Nibutani really seems interested in Yuuta.

HitokiriShadow
10-10-2012, 07:23 PM
Well, that explains the odd cat outfit in the OP.

Yumeha saying "Dark Flame Master" was massively HNNNNNNNNG-inducing. Japanese girls chuu2-ing English is hilarious in general. "Welcome to the Dark Side". And that sure is one hell of a room, Rikka.

We get to meet Kumin and, well, she was having waaaaaaaaay too much fun. Her getting whacked with the ladle from 300 feet was hilarious.

And that fight. THAT FIGHT. Oh my god. Now if only KyoAni would do a show with some real fights like this.

My one gripe was the friend and the class rank thing popping up. It's kind of worse here than usual because the male lead acknowledges its kind of a bad thing and that girls will get pissed about it, but his only concern seems to be getting caught. I'd love to see a show actually address the problems with this but I don't expect to see that happen anytime soon.

That battle was epic. Poor Kumin got taken down before she could even unmask her true power though. I don't know if I'll find Rikka or Dark Flame Master the most moe by the end of the show, but both of them had really moe-inducing moments.

Annoying friend does not exist. Maybe I'll just pretend he's Itsuki or Satoshi.

That was a really, really fun episode to watch. So many good moments.

-A lot more Nibutani which was awesome, especially the beginning in Yuuta's dream. She totally gives off that "class rep" vibe.
-The comedy duo of Yuuta and Rikka (her chuunibyou is soo strong) continues to be extremely fun to watch. I love how he always does something to her head - whacking it or double noogies.
-Hey look...we meet Kumin. I really like how she's getting into the whole chuuni world of Rikka.
-Rikka's sister - pretty bad ass and cool at the same time. I really like her and love the use of the ladle as a weapon.
-The lines that Toka recorded Yuuta saying as the Dark Flame Master - funny and I would love to hear Miyano Mamoru say those lines - its perfect for him.
-That fight...OMG, that fight was utterly amazing. Just wow.

Can't wait for next week's episode. This episode made a really strong case that I need to buy this show when it comes out on BD.

Well, that was fun. Rikka seems to be quite hilariously eccentric, the animation is really impressive, and the artstyle has convinced me that KyoAni has successfully turned cuteness into an art-form.

...Seconding all the exclamations of "WTF is with that opening" though. Granted, the first thing that struck me about it was the incredibly obnoxious subtitle-styling for it, but I suppose all the same criticisms can also be given to the actual video itself.

Episode 2:

- That zettai ryouiki... Oh right she's also being chased by someone. But THAT ZETTAI RYOUIKI GODDAMN.

- Oh Yuuta, in your dreams. Literally.
- That would be an incredibly unpleasant way to wake up.
- Chimera cat!

- Shinka's turn. Yuuta is head over heels - though he handles himself reasonably well anyway.
- Heh. Rikka will not permit Yuuta to be out of her sight.

- And we meet another major character, Kumin. Yay~
- "Welcome to Dark Side." =D And once again that zettai ryouiki.
- HAH. Kumin just looks up at Yuuta with them eyes... saying nothing makes it so much worse.
- Suddenly the evil villain arrives!
- ...Rikka's sister (mom?) is badass.
- AHAHAHA oh wow. That move with the bookshelf was awesome, but bonking her head on the light totally sold it.
- And she's out cold. :sd:

- Sister confirmed. Really can't tell sometimes, with how hot anime moms can be.
- AHAHHA and she immediately resorts to blackmail! Oh god I love her.
- But the best part of all of this isn't even Rikka. Or Yuuta. Or even nee-chan. It's Kumin's amused "go with the flow" reaction to everything. She's hilarious.
- She also takes a ladle to the head. =D

- Rikka is in serious mode! Eye laser!
- ...Oh. Wow. That... that was fantastic. I also loved the cuts between delusion and reality, haha.

Maaaaan this should be ranking better in preorders. It's doing well to be sure, but not as well as I would like given how awesome this episode was.

You know, this really doesn't bother me. Heck I remember it happening when I was in school. It's just a thing horny teens do (girls do it too!). I mean, yes, it can definitely be hurtful to individuals who "rank poorly" (and unwanted attention for those who "rank well") if the rankings get out, so I'm not saying it's exactly the most progressive or thoughtful thing anyone has ever done. But on the spectrum of bad things teenagers do to their classmates it ranks rather low.

The male friend character does not particularly bother me either. He hasn't even done much of anything yet, and the really over-the-top acting that usually makes characters of that kind awful (e.g. in To LOVE-Ru) isn't really there.

Granted my experience was unusual and I lived a sheltered life, but I never experienced anything like this. I do remember conversations about which girl you liked or found attractive--but that's about it. I'm not saying it doesn't occur (heck, when I was in college, hotornot starting floating around).

The other thing I don't get is class just started. It's unlikely they even know the girls, so it would be votes based purely upon physical appearance...

The male friend character does not particularly bother me either.

I don't like him because, I guess, he's only been about "girls, girls, girls." Not my favorite kind of character type. Now, that's not to say he won't receive development later and change my mind (I had an extremely negative impression of Sunohara before his story in Clannad). But I'd rather there be another facet to the stock friend.

Definitely the best part of the episode for me, too.

You kind of have to wonder what her parents must have thought when she got home that late at night, with a ladle wound on her forehead. Maybe this sort of thing happens all the time with Kumin so they stopped caring or something. :P

...or maybe she doesn't have parents or they don't pay attention to her so the reason she got caught up so easily with Yuuta or Rikka is because she's so bored at home...

Speculation, speculation... eh, whatever. More episodes please!

I remember it both in middle school and freshmen year of college. The latter was actually something the girls on my dorm floor set up. It would have happened in high school too no doubt if my high school wasn't single-sex. Instead, as you note, Hot or Not was the thing. I still remember guys clustering around computers in comp sci class visiting that site. :sd: It was really, really dumb. But teenagers are really, really dumb. Obviously, I'm glad I'm not in middle/high school anymore (of course adults are dumb in their own ways).

so it would be votes based purely upon physical appearance...
Well... yeah. =P I don't think ~15-year-olds spend time making these silly puerile rankings in order to measure the opposite sex's personalities. :sd: It was also stated in the episode that it was a ranking of "the cutest girls", so it is indeed just appearance.

I don't actively like him either, I just mean I don't actively dislike him. That is, he is not specifically detracting from my enjoyment of the show like his character archetype very often does.

If he were in every other scene, my reaction would probably be quite different.

Other than him and the OP, I consider Chu2koi basically perfect so far. Perhaps that's why my reaction is negative. In any other show, I'd just write him off as necessary and there due to convention, but here I really would like an interesting male friend like Hyouka had.

Other than him and the OP, I consider Chu2koi basically perfect so far. Perhaps that's why my reaction is so negative. In any other show, I'd just write him off as necessary and there due to convention, but here I really would like an interesting male friend like Hyouka had.
I guess if there's any chance of that, KyoAni is indeed the best studio to turn to. There are only a few "school-aged male protagonist's goofy male friend" characters in anime that have worthwhile, and through whatever trick of fate, almost all of them are in KyoAni shows.

Though with only ten episodes to go and four major girls in the story, I'm guessing he instead just won't get much focus at all. Which is fine too.

Speaking of those girls, genre conventions would require Rikka to face off against another chuu2 rival, right? That has to be twintails Sanae if so...

If not, I wonder what role she would have. Kumin is the amused observer who probably has some family issues going on. Shinka is the protagonist's crush/heroine's pretty love rival. Sanae just seems to slot in well as Rikka's chuu2 rival. I'm envisioning something like Kobato vs Maria, but with less unko and crying.

re: Girl Rankings. I don't have Hitokiri's rather visceral reaction to them, but they are kinda bleh.

It's an irritation rather than something rage inducing and how much they annoy me depends on the show and what all it does with it. I pretty much always dislike them, but it's a relatively minor irritation in this case, probably because it only lasted about three lines and about as many seconds, instead of, say, having an entire scene based on it. MC's reaction was just worse than normal (well, its sort of a mixed bag; knowing its not a good thing is progress, I suppose) since he acknowledged he was participating in something offensive to the girls but was okay with doing it anyway as long as they didn't find out. Male Friend was at least, somehow, less obnoxious about it than usual.

Yeah, sure, teenage boys are horny and all, and I've no doubt it actually happens, but that's precisely part of why I'm not thrilled with how its condoned in shows. This also tends to come from the obnoxious horny male friend character who's sole role in the show is to trade porn with the main character and blabber on about girl's bodies and wanting a girlfriend, etc. I expect the guy here to be a bit better than usual if only because its KyoAni, and its probably why he didn't annoy me as much as usual.

God KyoAni is a great studio and Ishihara is a great director. Seeing how good this manages to be despite my lack of interest in the subject matter just further proves to frustrate me about them not being the ones to do Little Busters! this season. But instead we get this and Little Busters!, neither of which are as good as I assume that hypothetical anime would be. I definitely don't care that much about this yet, but it's definitely good for what it is. For as pretty as it all is, though, that flashing from side to side in the opening really gives me a headache. That might be difficult to deal with in the future.

Nibutani totally stole the episode for me...that face around 2:13, in cheerleader outfit, eyecatch, part of Yuuta's dream, the wink at the end. All my hearts go to her.

Dekomori (how many awesome characters can this show keep adding?)+Rikka - waaaay too much chuuni at any given time. But, the fight they had was amazing. I have to wonder how much of the episode budget went to that alone.

The end was interesting - Nibutani deciding to join the circle, but possibly related to what she saw the group do the night before - which was just Dekomori just reading some real chuuni book. Maybe just coincidence? Nah...shes popular enough to do other things.

Yaaaaay, Dekomori has arrived! And she really does have weaponized twin-tails! Though they have some downsides. I loved that she remained wrapped up in her own hair for the rest of the conversation.

Other highlights were Rikka's brief cheerleading experience and her ad libbing with the drama club. Her "You trash" cracked me up. And the teacher dealing with Rikka's attempt to use an "alternate personality" as a club member.

Didn't think about Haganai, but I don't even remember if Kobato was considered an actual club member. She just kind of shows up at times when she feels like it. Rikka wants to start a club. No way that's going to go smoothly.

All Kumin wants to do is to take naps. Rikka accommodates that into the club.

Rikka's improv skills have been honed by years of chuunibyou. The drama club doesn't stand a chance.

Sanae is great, but how on earth does she not get tired of having those... things on the ends of her twintails? Are they made of air or something? Well, no real matter, because she gets herself wrapped up in them trying to use Rapid Spin.

Interesting that Yuuta can refer to the teacher as "Nana-chan" and get away with it. Wonder if the two know each other from before particularly well. Anyway, Nanase-sensei is awesome. She seems like the easy-going teacher but she has some tricks up her sleeve and knows how to counteract a pretending-to-be-an-English-girl Rikka.

Another awesome fight scene delusion.

- Sanae! Oh yeah, she's definitely chuunibyou.
- I like this OP more every time. The alternating images never bothered me as much as most others, and I'm more and more used to it each ep.

- Heh. I don't think it's possible for me to ever tire of seeing Rikka get hit in the face. Which sounds bad but... :sd: It's so cute!

- Theater. Rikka, ki ni narimasu!
- It doesn't go entirely well. Heh. The first one was the best. Poor girl had no idea how to react. Also, Rikka really likes that sliding kick.

- SANAE HAS ARRIVED! And huh. Very interesting. I assumed she would be Rikka's rival, but instead she's her servant. That's... really cool, this should be a very fun way to go about it. Because Rikka vs Sanae probably isn't quite as funny as Rikka and Sanae ganging up on Yuuta.
- Captured by her own hair.
- The cat is the 5th member. =D
- No wait, Rikka's alternate personality is the 5th member! Meanwhile, Kumin is having the time of her life playing along with this. She's like the Mugi of ther group. I have a feeling Yuuta will never stop feeling surprised nad betrayed when Kumin enables Rikka and Sanae, heh.
- Oh god. Rikka's plan backfired. Nana-chan, you're hilarious.

- !!! Another chuu2 battle scene already? Hell yes please!
- HAHAH the cut back to reality was fucking GOLD. XD
- Speaking of feeling betrayed, it's written all over Yuuta's face when the club gets approved. Hah.

I haven't seen episode four yet of course (won't get around to it until Saturday) but since the below was posted in the ep 3 subthread and concerns ep 4, I figure I'll get ep 4 started in the event that anyone was going to reply. So please reply to that post here, not in ep 3. Thanks.

According to 2ch's Chū2byō play-by-play thread, the opening credit sequence of the Chū2byō anime was revised.

And now we see why I started the whole Team Nibutani thing. (Not really, but that's Classified Information) Shinka finally reveals what we've been waiting for: she was merely after the book the entire time. As for any hint to a relationship between her and Yuuta: looks cloudy after her comment about the Dark Flame Master. To be fair, even I forgot about my translation of her Chuunibyou nature:
Holding the opposing power to the Devilish Truth Stare, she fiercely fights with Rikka's Servant. She's loitered around for ages wanting the legacy of her pastTalk about a spoiler in plain sight that we ignored.

As for Deathmori herself, we got to see a lot more of her relationship with Rikka as well as how much she's involved herself in the chuunibyou world (which makes sense given she's actually in middle school and was chuu-ni last year). Definitely some wonderful exposition about her at the same time we got a good Nibutani episode.

Next, we need some more focus on Kumin and maybe some more Rikka focus (like why she became a chuunibyou) to round out our introductions. At least we're not feeling as episodic as before.

Random note: this episode used the same base staff as episode 1. Both were animated by KyoAni's sister studio:Animation Do.

People sure love hitting each other on the head in this series. Rikk and Dekomori continue to be super chuuni - it's actually quite cute (loved how Yuuta was able to distract Rikka away from his home with his book).

After the end of episode 3, makes sense that Nibutani was just after the book the whole time (loved her darting eyes for that split second when it was mentioned the book was at Yuuta's place). Of course, she's being silly, after destroying the copy, not realizing that someone could save the documents and print them again if needed.

Not a huge fan of the over-reaction she had to her past though. It's a little much and a little old after seeing Yuuta react the same way so many times already.

Dekomori was pretty awesome this whole episode. It should be real fun seeing her and Nibutani interact in the future. Dunno why no one decided to explain (unless she wouldn't have any of it) the whole Mori-summer thing on how it's a play on Nibutani's given name to try and persuade her that Nibutani is the real deal.

Bwahahaha...totally forgot about those.

Ah, yes, that's something that would be nice to know - Rikka's past since we already know of Yuuta's and Nibutani's.

DES(u) DES(u) DES(u) DES(u)!!

Her response to Nibutani's demand amused me greatly. And her even tying Nibutani's ribbon around her own arm got a good laugh out of me. I particularly loved how she went and wrapped Nibutani's rippon around her arm on her own to keep up the act. Dekomori is definitely my favorite character for now.

Nibutani.... is a female version of Yuuta when her secret comes out. Not what I was expecting. I was expecting her to be more villainous. Also, she thinks things can actually be deleted from the internet. Nibutani, I hate to break this to you....

I dunno, it's pretty much "the pot calling the kettle..." with her. If Yuuta is a loser then what does that make her? She's about as stuck up as you can get and about as fake. I hate seeing Yuuta in pain over his past (painful for me to watch), but watching Nibutani being taken down a peg is starting to be enjoyable.

Of course Nibutani is missing the obvious. All she has to do is get on line as Mori Summer and tell Dekomori that the book must be destroyed to save the world. As you say, the internet is forever but it would alleviate her immediate concerns.

There was obviously something more to Nibutani, but I wasn't expecting that! So we have two current chuunibyou and two former chuunibyou, the latter two both sure to slip into their old selves on occasion. Oh, and we have Kumin. Who just sleeps. That's cool, though. This should be lots of fun. Let's see if there are any more surprises like this coming up. Eventually there has to be some more serious moments and romantic development. With Nibutani's character clarified, there should be some time for that in the remaining two-thirds of the show.

Also, gorgeous battle scene as always.

This is going to definitely be a keeper and one I will buy, I can tell.

Hah, when Shinka found out that she and Yuuta were fellow former chuunis, I thought she'd become attached to him due to their shared past... but nope, that's not her style.

Shinka is awesome, though. And she plays off Sanae really well, too, even if she can't quite convince her she's the real Mori Summer.

Lots of other funny parts to this episode, too, like when Rikka finds Yuuta's porn stash.

Episode 4:

- I love Yuuta's Shinka delusions.
- Nobody makes cuter sounds when hit than Rikka.
- Revised OP! It's an improvement. They kept the alternating where it was most useful, which is good, and following the changes is easier when they're on one side. I like it. But then I liked the original too.

- Oh god, eyepatch on sunglasses. <3
- Kumin is the most adorable sacrifice!
- DESU. <3 Sanae. She's the cutest little pet chuu2byou.
- Dark Flame Master is a Dark Flame Master! It can't be helped. =D
- Mjollnir Hammer has been stuffed in a locker. Poor Hammer-chan.
- Heh. Yep, Shinka wants that book back.
- Have I mentioned I love Fukuyama Jun?
- And poor Yuuta is wrapped around her finger, when all she cares about is the Mabinogion.

- Blushing Rikka! Boobs are too much for her. They are the corruption of the human realm!
- Those precious moments when Rikka unwillingly breaks character. ::dies::
- Rikka and Sanae's casual clothes are amazing.

- Ahahaha, Shinka is not one for subtlety. She is tearing that room apart like a raging bull.
- HAHA it clicks for Yuuta. Shinka is outed. Shika is in despair! ZETSUBOU SHITAAAAAAAAA
- Shinka broke. =D
- And shortly thereafter, Yuuta's image of her breaks too. Maaaaaaaaaan she's a snippy one, isn't she? I feel bad for Yuuta.

- ...Of course Sanae has copies. :sd:
- Younger Deko-chan! Adorable!
- YOU SHALL NOT HEADBUTT THE DEKO. =D
- Man. Shinka. You're a horrible person. Yuuta tries to cheer you up and you just trample on him. ;_;

- Woah another chuu2 action sequence? YES! I never expected we would get so many of these. KyoAni I love you. <3
- Ahaha, but Shinka is completely defeated.
- And she stays in the club. For now.

I really, really, really like Sanae. She's such an important addition to the cast, not because she brings some deep story with her, but because Rikka's chuunibyou delusions are a hell of a lot more fun when she's got a partner to play with. It's so great seeing them able to share each other's passions. And it's just hilarious when they gang up on Yuuta.

But wow, Shinka. You better improve your attitude, girl. But it's hilarious to watch Sanae completely infuriate her. =D

"She and Deko-chan get along very well."
I seriously love Kumin. So this was 4 minutes of Kumin talking about naps and introducing the other club members and it was as amazing as you'd expect.

"Togashi-kun never plays along. I get the feeling he really wants to, though!"
We really need more of Kumin's observations of the cast. She's perfect.

Oh and she seems to still think this is the napping club. Nobody else takes naps, but hey that's ok!

The first half of the episode was fun, but the second half really stole the episode - very well done.

I love how even though Kumin naps all the time she's really perceptive of what's going on around her. Loved the zinger of a comment to Nibutani in the beginning. Speaking of Nibutani, I hope she starts to act a little more natural instead of forcing herself to act/look normal. Nibutani in school mizugi - so lovely...best part of the first half of the episode.

I really like the focus on Rikka and Yuuta in the second half of the episode. Lots of cute, aww moments and some emotional that were more emotional. I felt a little sad for her with the response she gave when Yuuta mentioned about giving a new email addy to friends if she switched. But, at the same time, she has a great group of people around her now.

Surprise Sanae sliding into Nibutani at the beginning cracked me up.

Their interactions stealing the show in general. Their instinctive fighting upon entering proximity to one another was particularly amusing. And they found something to agree on: laughing their asses off at Isshiki's glowing shaved head.

Isshiki jumping over Nibutani rolling around was a nice visual gag.

And oh god, Kumin. Her end scene was stupidly adorable.

It was nice to see the class girl rank thing come back and bite the guys in the ass for a change, though I felt they got off too easy. Wish Nibutani would have pushed the issue and not let Isshiki enable the others to get away with it. Yuuta never shows any concern except for his and Isshiki's well-beings and the whole thing still comes away with a whiff of "It's a Bro thing; the girls don't like it so just don't get caught."

I did enjoy the girls' reactions, both verbal and body language. And at least there was some public humiliation. Just wish it would have gone a bit farther. Oh well.

Anyway, great episode as usual.

Kumin, you are such a sweetie! Love how you have no clue as to whats going on but you join right in anyway since it seems like fun.

Yuuta, nice try but you didn't have to put the shirt on.

Well the poll finally came back to haunt them and it cost Isshiki his hair. It did look as if it was a seppuku ceremony at one point with his neck stretched out and Yuuta standing over him. Not as much fun as the first part but had it's moments (like Deko repeatedly slamming into the door. "My servant!").

And they top it all off with Tooka (ghad she looked sexy) showing up on the balcony to ask Yuuta to come on vacation with them! Can't wait. I'm guessing the rest of the girls going to be there based on the OP.

That was surprising, and I’m definitely ready to see the focus shift back to the real main characters, but he got to have some better screen time than I expected. -WHAT'S THE POINT OF ROLLING DIE!? Damn you Rikka. Have you no respect for table top RPGs! I thought you were an open minded nerd.
-Rikka we do not leave food out. You are a horrible slob.
-No hot sister... I don't know why I'm still watching anymore.
-A moment! More of the strange sad moments of Rikka's alienation. less of this school rigmarole.
-TOOKA! Scratch the previous statement. I revert to my original thesis. This show needs more hot older sister!
-Poor Tooka. So young and already divorced.

Oh and all the girls have a secret crush on the one guy.
Hmm... What gives you this idea, I wonder?
Yeah, so far we have:
Kumin - In a committed romantic relationship with napping.
Sanae - No way in hell she cares about Yuuta. She's dedicated her life to serving the JAOUSHINGAN.
Shinka - Nope. I expect she will by the end, but so far, not even close.
Rikka - Of course, she's the heroine, though that's not the way she understands it right now.

So... yeah, not so much. It's going to take considerable changes in character dynamics before romance becomes the main focus for these girls.

Episode 6:

- Awww, Rikka went through the effort to make those shirts. Wear it! (...I wouldn't, but I have no qualms about forcing you to!)
- Tooka gets a text. It's from Mr. Plot.

- Heh, nice picture of Yuuta, Rikka. Must see Yuuta's drawing of Rikka!
- SANAE ATTACKS! <3 OH man I had to watch that again in slow motion.
- Isshiki got a love letter. Someone has odd taste.

- Yay, Sanae and Kumin wear the shirts. Dark Dream!
- Oh my god. Kumin's chuu2 introduction. Reading it from the note. Hearts. KUMIN IS STILL BEST GIRL!
- Hah! Yuuta is wearing the shirt after all!
- Huh, Shinka's reaction to Isshiki... probably just because she needs to put up her front, but man it would be weird if she actually liked him.
- Sanae continues to be second best girl! I'll never get enough of her abusing Shinka.
- Haha ok yeah no way Shinka is in love with Isshiki.

- Heh. Shinka is a horrible horrible person but I love how she shifts personalities on a dime.
- Rikka was checking her phone... must have heard about whatever the news is from Tooka.
- And then holds hans with Yuuta in a very nice scene. She just wanted someone to be with her right then... aww.
- Rikka/Deko-chan eyecatch!

- Oh hey. Some people wanted the girl cuteness ranking to become a specific plot point addressed by the class - and it has. Very surprised it did, though I suppose the second time Isshiki brought it up hinted that it was coming back.
- Isshiki takes the fall for the ranking. Granted, he's just trying to look "cool" in front of whoever wrote the letter, since he knew he would be outed eventually.

- Hahah, Shinka isn't about to let him get out of his promise to shave his head.
- Oh man, Deko-chan just starts attacking SHinka immediately on walking in. It's reflex for both of them. She doesn't even need to look.
- Heh! Yuuta even hits Shinka when she and Sanae laugh. Man I like Yuuta. He doesn't stay stupid and awkward around Shinka the whole series.
- This head of his glows with an awesome power?
- Rikka is a nice girl. She doesn't laugh. She shares her powers.
- Bwhahah, Kumin likes the bald head.

- o_O Hello there Tooka. Not the Takanashi sibling he expected to see.
- Summer vacation with Tooka and Rikka. Sounds deadly.

- Rikka wants to start a new club…
- Rikka is not able to ask herself, she is too embarrassed and she is too cute.
- Oh, Kumin! How could, no one joined the napping club last time?
- Shinka as a cheerleader… Lovely.
- Rikka is a cheerleader too… Well, she wants to get thrown in the air.

I relooked at the railway crossing scene. At first I didn't recognize what was in her hand. It must have been her cell phone which, from the previous episode was black. Probably I was the only one who didn't catch the significance of the phone. She must have gotten a call or a text message from her sister or family that upset her. That explains the whole sequence and why she wanted to hold his hand and the "wind commeth".

Blast Reality!

Bwwwaaaaa! I had tears in my eyes almost all the way through the second half. Damn, the explanation of Rikka's condition was so sad. I thought the way the last episode ended that there would be some angst, but this really tore me up. Seeing Rikka smiling when Yuuta agrees to help made the contrast even worse.

A father that died, a grandfather with no empathy, a mom that runs off and leaves her. Chuunibyou was probably the best alternative as opposed to what she could have turned into. She seemed to be drawn less as a child and more as a young woman in this episode. Specifically the last scene. Her conflict with her sister is less about Chuunibyou than about her refusal to face the loss of her father. Chuunibyou is only her means of escape not the cause.

At the same time I loved the comedy scenes too. Dekomori never ceases to delight. Dekomoron, :sdsmiley:! If I read Shinka's back right is actually says: ニセサマ(nisesama) in katakana so I guess it is "fake summer" though I read it as her calling Shinka a fake but politely;). And Kumin...HNNNGGGG. Issika I can see where your coming from but I don't think you have a snowballs chance, grade schooler.;)

Of course, why in the hell is Shinka there, except that this was nominally a beach episode? You really have become friends with them in spite of yourself haven't you?

Can't wait for next week's battle and I expect it's going to get even more emotional.

There were some nice Rikka(/Yuuta) scenes but Nibutani/Dekomori continues to steal the show.

Mostly for their fighting but daaaaaaaaaaaw at Nibutani taking care of Dekomori after she gets sunburned.

As for non-Nibutani/Dekomori stuff, Cerberus, Rikka's jump and her method of transportation at the end all cracked me up. And Nibutani's face when she got a surprise kiss from Cerberus.

Also, this episode had a notable fixation on asses. Not that I have a problem with this!

Nibutani <3. Yes, she does give off that class-rep feeling taking care of the kids in this episode.

First half of the episode was pretty fun besides the strained relationship between Rikka and her sister. Nibutani and Dekomori continue to be a super fun pair.

Second half of the episode - man...being Tooka is tough. Pretty sad what happened to the family and one of the reasons for Rikka acting the way she is now. Those last few lines in the show though...damn.

Kumin really had the wow factor in that white summer dress. She really pops out with it. Her color is definitely white!. I never knew sunburns could be so much fun. Nair....yes. Icy hot.....yes. But sunburns are a new one to add to the list.

Tooka has gone through a lot of hell and has retreated into her shell in order to mentally survive. I know, I've been there in "the pit" as I like to call it. But she's a fighter and she'll fight her way out of it.

Just don't surrender your imagination in the process, dear. It is a very good thing to have.

Episode 7:

- Shut up Shinka. You wouldn't know cute if it broke a chair over your head. KUMIN IS BETTER THAN YOU! White one piece dresses are awesome.
- Dekmori defeats the sun with her Dark Limited Unknown Shield!
- Kumin x Isshiki is being pushed pretty hard. Though more from Isshiki's side. So far Kumin just seems amused as if in a pet.

- Dekomori survives the assault of the sun only to be attacked by motion sickness.
- Oh god, that strap coming off Kumin's shoulder... also, MOLE!
- Rikka is quiet. Too quiet. She seems sad. ;_;
- Kumin is worried. Kumin is best senpai.

- Heh, Shinka is so skilled at playing the polite good girl. If only they knew.
- And man, looks like we know why Rikka was so against coming here. Her grandfather is less than happy about her Chuunibyou. Her grandmother is nice, but obviously doesn't quite get it (lol pirate).
- Also, grandparents. That means her parents are probably dead. I think Touka talked about them before but I can't remember if we got any details.
- I love when Yuuta goes chuu2 for Rikka.
- Okay, "I hope you're going this year" → to your parents grave, is what that has to mean. Rikka. ;_;

- Beach! Yay!
- Kumin, as usual, looks amazing. And very very nice Rikka. We've seen these swimsuits in the OP and official art but it's still good to see them for real.
- Hahaha, the extra heads attached to the dog.
- KUMIN EYECATCH! KUMIN EYECATCH!
- Oh and Rikka's father isn't dead. Just the mother?

- Maaaaan. Shinka and Demokori are so on the same wavelength, even if they'd never admit it. XD

- Nevermind, other way around. Father is dead, mother ran off. Rikka had n warning, and can't accept it. Grandfather can't accept the way Rikka chooses to deal with it. Family strife. Poor Rikka. =/
- Awwwwww, Touka getting bashful when her cooking is praised.
- ...Dekomori cannot defeat the priestess. (Deko-chan, cheese is awesome!)

- ::heart momentarily stops:: Oh man. That shot of Rikka against the door, bathed in moonlight. She looks so profoundly sad. ;_;
- And then they throw a really sweet unguarded out-of-character moment on top of that and overload my moe-meter. Fffffffffffffff.
- Yuuta... you're a good dude. Really.
- But they fall into the Priestess' trap.
- Aahaha, springiest bushes ever. But awwwwwwww, what a great moment. Also, jeeze, feet are usually meh but KyoAni can draw them so damn cutely. I'm also thinking of that one scene of Kotomi in the library in Clannad

Ohhhhh... that's what Touka didn't want Rikka to see. That their old house wasn't there anymore. Rikkaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. ;_;

-Sleepy senpai is an adorable girl untainted by outside fashion advice.
-Dekomori has Quattro glasses.
-How did an invitation to um... crap I can not remember generic male leads name at all. Anyway how did an invitation to him translate into "bring all your stupid friends"?
-Inside the house of the administrative grandparents is sadness. Quickly to the beach! Bikinis solve all the world's woes.
-Rikka & Dekomori in two piece swimsuits? Odd that.
-Everyone else is in a bikini, but Touka has the sexiest looking outfit.

-Shinka & Dekomori edge one step closer to epic hatefucking thanks to sunburn.
-Maybe Dekomori is just lactose intolerant.
-Those must be some super comfy bushes.
-Omg Shinka is flirting with Dekomori while doing dishes. Curse you Yuri Goggles! I can't take them off...
-Well an empty field is better than seeing a happy family in your old home. I suppose.

we begin to see the flaws in the older sister's approach to Rikka. She isn't wanting to deal with the truth any more than her little sister is. She and the family are just sidestepping the damage that has been really done and calling it 'reality', but they are not really being real. Its not about information at this point but empathy. They are connecting mentally while avoiding the issue emotionally. Rikka just happens to be something they don't want to see, not because of HER, but because of what it reveals about their own hearts.

I think Yuuta's effect will be far more profound on Rikka for getting her to accept the passage in a way that will help her transition out of this period. His love and acceptance of her will do far more good than a brute force approach.

So good.

I hadn't thought of it that way. They've accepted the physical reality but not the emotional. Especially as it pertains to Rikka. Accepting the amount of pain that is in Rikka is something that they are unable to deal with just as she is unable to deal with her father actually being dead. Touka's "grow up, face reality" are just code words for "block off your feelings like I have". We don't even know if Touka was able to, or allowed to, grieve for the loss of her father. Her grandfather may have even refused to let her grieve. The real climax may come when both of them can grieve together.

Well, not quite the moving drama I expected from the previous episode, at least after the very beginning, but still some very powerfully emotional material in a bit of a different way. Oh Rikka, you are too adorable. I hope this romance does get to fully blossom in the time we have left. This episode was certainly all about it, and Ishihara is always great at this sort of thing, but I'd imagine that at least the next few will calm down a little and revert back to a bit of the silliness that had become the norm for the series before this little arc of sorts. That will probably be a bit of a disappointment in comparison, but this series is never bad, so I'm sure I'll be fine.

Episode 8:

- The Jaoushingan and the Priestess have their climactic battle! Priestess wins a crushing victory.
- But man, it wasn't just Rikka tearing up there. The weight of this is even more heavily on Touka's shoulders. She's just better at dealing with it in a socially acceptable manner than Rikka.
- And good on Yuuta for stepping in, although it's still something Rikka needs to deal with.'

- Back to fun with fireworks. Deko-chan will always cheer things up DESU.
- Hah, the dog just ignores the bone. You're tastier, Shinka.
- I hope the direction they take with Isshiki's character is that Kumin's influence really makes him shape up. I'd like that.

- Huh, Rikka really did take the train back and we didn't get some cliche "Yuuta pedals alongside the train shouting to Rikka" scene. He just appears on the train. :sd: I guess he caught a later stop.
- And a magical scene follows. Complete with insert song! Gaaaaaah, I absolutely love the Yuuta/Rikka pairing. I'm also glad Yuuta's backstory isn't some generic tragedy. It's really just a sense of not fitting in that caused his chuunibyou. It's honestly better to keep it mundane like that. Because he still understands Rikka without needing dramatic trauma, and she values his understanding just as well.
- She also just looks divine in that dress, seriously.

- Meanwhile, back at the grandparents' place... KUMIN IN A TOWEL! Heh, Shinka cannot stand Kumin's purity.
- Bwhahah, Shinka finally finds the writing. I love how nobody said anything to her all day.
- Poor Deko-chan...

- Rikka can't get into her room. Time to sleep over Yuuta's place. =D

- Deko-chan and Rikka eyecatches~
- Heh! Isshiki you're a lucky man. Kumin may be clueless about your feelings, but just being with her must be so incredibly soothing. Kumin is iyashikei max.

- Meanwhile Rikka learns of wonderful new dark tools at the Togashi Lair.
- Man KyoAni draws such nice close-ups of hands and fingers.
- Everyone is together in the moonlight. Yuuta and Rikka. Isshiki and Kumin-senpai. Deko-chan and Shinka. Cute couples!
- Rikka in that black dress. Kumin in her white dress. Opposites, but equally lovely.
- HAHAHA ouch, Isshiki. Ouch. I actually feel bad for you.
- Meanwhile, even Rikka is starting to realize her feelings. ...even if she has a long way to go.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaan. Yuuta x Rikka just shot up to into the top tier of hetero couples of 2012. I think we have our answer to how well this show would be able to pivot from comedy to serious drama and romantic development: with total flying colors. I'd expect nothing less from KyoAni.

- And good on Yuuta for stepping in, although it's still something Rikka needs to deal with.'

He really grasped Rikka's situation and why Touka's approach wasn't the best way to deal with her.

Of course Nibutani and Ishhiki have joined the club and Nibutani has started to take over (gee that was unexpected ;)). Rikka really has a bad case of love sickness (seems terminal).

Yuuta keeps looking more and more like Houtorou to me.

Touka coming out from under Yuuta's bed was hilarious. I was expecting Rikka. Her gymnastic ability hasn't left her it seems.

Nibutani explaining to Rikka that what she was experiencing was love and seeing her blow a mental fuse.

Fortunetelling isn't the same as Chuuni syndrome (yeah, right).

Isshiki being dragged off by the light music club. He's become a slave to his art (literally).

That Nibutani/Rikka scene with them talking about Rikka's love life was fantastic.

Rikka and Dekomori's "battle" against Yuuta was pretty good too. Nibutani had some great reactions while observing Rikka as well.

And Nibutani ranges from forgetting Isshiki exists to actively sabotaging anything that might help him get anywhere at all with Kumin. I almost feel sorry for him. Almost.

Also interesting to note is that Dekomori's ability to change gears is impressive and she's capable of getting along with her classmates and engaging with them on a fairly normal level to at least some extent. She keeps the DEATH thing though. It's not clear whether any of them are really friends with her or talk with her at all beyond getting help with math problems.

Ah, some good old romantic comedy. Real solid stuff that works well with the established quirks of these characters. That final scene definitely has me wondering where things will go from here. Wow.....just wow. Rikka's adorableness meter just went up by 1000 percent. also she has the cutest legs since Yui Hirasawa.

She was so much in her own world that the realization that she likes him just overwhelmed her. And her hiding under the umbrella was an Aisaka Taiga level cuteness move. Very cool

And the last scene, she just hangs on to him for dear life worried that he'll disappear forever if she lets go. Oh boy I cannot wait for next week. I hope he doesn't shoot her down....

Episode 9:

- Shinka is totally gung-ho about the club now. Isshiki seems to nail why. Somehow, this makes her far mroe troublesome.
- Meanwhile, a romantically self-conscious Rikka...

- Flash mob? Are you really Shinka? How bad did quitting cheerleading mess with your head?
- Haha so that's what Sanae was doing. Synching up with her master.
- Her poor confused master. ;_;
- Bwhahaha, nobody believes that Yuuta didn't do something naughty with Rikka.

- Oh god Touka. "I better watch out around you." And she's so flexible...
- Touka's reaction to Yuuta saying she should just talk to Rikka is rather telling. It's like she never considered it. And then she refuses with her typical deadpan bluntness.

- Rikka is trying to eat her tomatoes, gasp.
- Sleeping Kumin-senpai. Angelic! <3
- ...Given how (not) perceptive Kumin is about Rikka clearly falling in love, heh, good luck, Isshiki.
- Heh! Sanae goes from uberchuu2 to helpful tutor and back. She can flip personalities effortlessly.

- "Oh, he was in the club too." Heh, well, at least Kumin remembers you, Isshiki. Sometimes I love the casual disregard Shinka has for other human beings.
- Mjollnir Hammer & Jaoushingan vs Dark Flame Master!
- Oh man, she's actually getting self-conscious while in character. So cute...
- DARK FLAME MASTER CHOP! DFM wins. Jaoushingan is no match.
- Shinka is the only one with an emotional IQ apparently. Although I kinda wonder if Sanae, of all people, just realized what is going on...
- GAHHHHHHH bashful Rikka, my heart really can't take much more of this.

- Okay I see great things in Shinka's future as a character, if she becomes Cupid for Yuuta and Rikka. The interest she's showing in Rikka implies she'll be fulfilling that role. It'll be a perfect way to strengthen her relationship even more with the group. And for damn sure it's a better use of her than as the doomed member of a stupid forced love triangle. Shinka hs never once felt anything for Yuuta, and that's been one of the best things about her. She could just be herself, not "girl who pines for the protagonist".
- Oh yeah definitely cupid.
- HAHAHAH oh god that Rikka laugh. THat awkward, overdone, trying-to-hide-her-shock-and-embarrassment Rikka laugh.
- LOVE BUTTERFLIES!
- Oh man. Shinka is being remarkably patient. :sd: Again, goes to show how thoroughly she's accepted this group of weirdos.

- So now the natural pairings split off to work on the culture festival. =D
- Cupid Shinka tries her best! Keep it up, Cupid Shinka!
- I think she's tapping out that reservoir of patience now. :sd:
- Heh. Kumin evaluates everything against how well it would serve as a napping place. But don't nap on the roof, Kumin. It's dangerous.

- ...Told you it was dangerous! Even when awake. Maaaaan you knew she would slip as soon as she stood up, but that was tense as hell anyway. The way she slid, the look on her face, gah. ::shivers::
- And the Yuuta saves her! Go go Yuuta! Well, he does have a lot of practice at helping her get onto lower floor balconies.
- Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww~ what a great ending. Man, she very nearly told him she loved him. It was so close.

But nothing can stop it now. Soooooooo can not wait for it to happen.

- Kumin can dodge more easily when she sleeps!
- Talking about multiplications in a way to make me laugh, this show is amazing.
- The shrine scene is so beautiful and hilarious.
- Sanae and Rikka duo is a lot of fun.
- Good luck with your math exam Rikka. I was there too and I know how hard it is.

OMG, OMG, OMG.

How do I apologize to an anime character? I've wronged, wronged, wronged Rikka's mother. Rikka ran away from her not the reverse! That scene with her delivering the bento almost broke my heart.

The confession scene was one of the absolute best and the ending just a shock. Yuuta you gave her the one thing that she needed to allow her to face reality--you.

The Deko x Rikka ship has now left port and is very strong. I much prefer MoriDeko though. And since Rikka is unquestionably straight, well, makes it hard to get too excited over Dekomori pretty much admitting that her feelings for Rikka including romantic ones.

Sato and Suzuki's little scene with Nibutani was the highlight of the episode for me. That scene was fantastic, especially Sato and Suzuki blushing and getting embarrassed after Nibutani pointed out their own embarrassing chu2 points

And LOL Dekomori's training methods.

Also, very cute Rikka/Yuuta scenes, though I'm less than thrilled with Yuuta at the moment. What the fuck, man. I assume we'll see the rest of that scene next time and see what led him to get that angry and forceful about it.

That was rather beautiful...the confession and then the ending part. Ooof...heart wasn't entirely ready.

The middle portion of the episode was really fun though especially with Nibutani meeting up with old friends.

I was a little taken aback with how forceful he was with trying to have Rikka take off her eye-patch though. I don't think he should have been as forceful, but, at that point, he was running on emotions, though.

The end though, the end...man.

Love is confessed, and problems arise. Things could be better overall, but KyoAni continues to prove how amazing a studio it is, and Ishihara continues to prove his role as the best director at the studio. There are still some kinks that need to be worked out, but it’s mostly smooth, and occasionally a scene will be so impressive that you just have to marvel at its composition. Yuta does some things that I’m not too happy about just yet, and we’re deprived of most of the scene in which this happens, so the next episode definitely has some explaining to do to make this all as flawless as it deserves to be.

This life conflict brought to you by EcDonald's.

I'll stick with my guess, but your description is reminding me of the "training" that various anime characters have gone through over the years by dragging a t(i/y)re behind them with a rope tied to their waist. ^^ Dekomori's version would be _very_ hard on the neck, whether it's for combat or just for training. ^^;

This episode was amazing to get some of the drama in Chuunibyou! and Yuuta and Rikka finally confess their love for each other which was great. I was intrigued that Yuuta confessed with the dark flame master. Then there was the funny bit where Kumin rejected Isshiki lol whilst she was asleep so does that really count?

Episode 10:

- HAH. Yuuta picks a very bad time to realize he's experiencing love.
- Oh god. Dekomori is totally okay with Rikka's "advances". She has no objections. But it's not to be. ;_; I see KyoAni is getting their practice in for torturing yuri fans in Tamako Market. Oh well, SHINKA, THIS MEANS YOU HAVE A CHANCE! GO FOR THE DEKO!
- Oh god. Dekomori's hair comes with spike ball options. It's also pretty great that Rikka is able to openly say she's in love, and that she trusts Dekomori enough to confide in her.
- Dekomori: Loyal servant, skillful tutor, and now we add serious relationship advice to her list of abilities? She is truly an amazing person.
- Awwwwwwwww, and the way she puts her head on Rikka's shoulder at the end.

- Yuuta on the other hand has to make do with Isshiki. Okay okay, I actually like the guy now. After his hair got cut and he integrated with the main group, he became much more interesting. I also find his pining after Kumin-senpai to be pretty amusing. He's still no Sunohara, but I like him.
- Heh yeah, Isshiki has the best advice for a time like this: Stop talking. Chill.
- HAHAHA head on shoulder doesn't go quite the same way for Isshiki. XD
- lol chuunibyou sex.

- Isshiki goes for it too. Kumin says yes, but really, it's hard to know if she's ever taking anything seriously. :sd:
- Man, Deko-chan is taking this pretty hard. ;_; KyoAni, why you got to go and take one of the best hetero couples of the year and make it all bittersweet for me? At least Shinka and Dekomori are going to have the best cheer-up sex ever.

- Anyways, more adorableness. Blushing Rikka!
- And then that shot under the umbrella, oh my god that's brilliant's composed.
- Promptly switching over to te least romantic location possible.
- Relocate! And get wet along the way. That umbrella isn't helping anyone.
- This looks like it should work...
- ...Hoooooooooly crap. That was one of the most magical confessions scenes I've ever seen. Incredible on so many levels. Goddamn. The lights, Rikka beating Yuuta to the punch. Yuuta's chuu2 confession interrupted midway, the pinkie holding... gah. So good, so very, very good.

- Heh. Touka playing broken home with Yumeha again.
- But when you have a confession with two episodes to go, something bad has to follow...
- Man. Rikka Touka is moving far away for work, and their mother will move back in with Rikka. Wtf though? She's just coming back after all this time? And god this will be awkward for Rikka. Better than being sent out to the grandparents house though, I guess... at least she can be with Yuuta this way.
- Hrm, so Rikka's mom has tried to make amends, but Rikka just cannot trust her anymore.

- Heh. Shinka desperately seeks revenge on girls who... ...well, sound like they're a lot like her! Them cheese potatoes.
- Wigglin' fingers!
- Hahahah, she sees some old classmates and they trade insults over their past behavior. :sd:
- Oh god, Dekomori.

- Dark Flame Master is REBORN!
- Rikka's outfit is adorable.
- Pinky kiss~
- And there's Rikka's mom.
- Oh wow, Yuuta just made his choice. He's going to play it Touka's way and force reality on Rikka. But you know this isn't what he wants to do. That said... is it the right thing or not?
- HAH, Dekomori and Shinka played Dark Flame Master and Jaoushingan in their place. =D
- ...And Isshiki works up a confession but Kumin-senpai is asleep. Of course. :sd:
- Here's another case where I wish KyoAni did special endings more often - how much better would it have been if instead of Inside Identity, we got Rikka's full song sung over the credits?

But damn, wow. What an episode... so much packed in there, and done so damn well. And... wait more after the ED?

Post-ED:
- Oh wow.

The Jaoushingan is no more...

The Confession Scene was one of the best in a long, long time....just proving that Kyoani is one of the best at such things. The mixture of embarassment, boldness and honesty just undoes me every time. This will definitely make my top 10 all time and be right there with Toradora and Robotech.

The ending sort of irritated me.....not because I didn't like it, but because I see Rikka being more real and open about the loss of her father than anyone. Sure she shouldn't have run away from her mother and wounded her......but the rest of them want her to pretend and hide it like them. The real issue here is that they don't want to have to see her in pain, because it reminds them that they are wounded too. This has nothing to do with growing up, being real or being responsible. Those are just excuses they are making for not wanting to see it or deal with it.

I love the way they have crafted this that the person with the biggest imagination is the one who is being the most 'real' and those that have gotten past that phase are pretending to be people they are really not.

Fabulous stuff.....

Hold on, did she run away from her mother? I know we were told Rikka doesn't want to talk to her, but earlier we were told their mother left both Touka and Rikka to their grandparents. Rikka may have kept her distance, but mom is still the one who physically left, for whatever reason.

The real issue here is that they don't want to have to see her in pain, because it reminds them that they are wounded too. This has nothing to do with growing up, being real or being responsible. Those are just excuses they are making for not wanting to see it or deal with it.

Hold on, did she run away from her mother?
I took him as meaning "ran away emotionally", both in the sense of seeming to retreat into a fantasy world, and in closing her heart off to her mother. I suppose her mother was never a terribly strong individual, and the situation with her husband coupled with her daughter's rejection of her led her to "deal with it" by handing the kids off to someone else and running away. Which she no doubt regrets, but it was still a shit thing to do. Still, I can't wait to see the redemption in the end.

yeah, I meant emotionally run away. but it seems that as yuuta made that clear at the end, she may be taking steps to resolve the issues with her mother.

This particular one hit me where I lived, hence the emotional response. I really feel for her. I know things will work out for her, she's got a really clear idea of what she wants. I hope the rest of the family is willing to take a good look at themselves as well.

Pretty good episode though certainly not going to be my favorite. It really highlighted some of the less thrilling aspects of the story for me. I don't think I'll know exactly how I feel about this episode until I see how things conclude.

Also, the show's so cruel. It's still playing up how awesome Nibutani's performance with Dekomori was. And we didn't get to see it. ;_; Maybe we'll get lucky and they aren't totally trolling and will show it in flashback, but I'm not counting on it.

Damn you, KyoAni.

Hopes and dreams... ;_;

Yuuta is more reacting to his own problems then to Rikka's. And the world Sanae and Rikka were in did have real power....why else was Yuuta crying at the end of the show. In fact, why are WE talking about it. The idea that this world is not real is patently ridiculous. It was more real and impactful than the world they were in(J.R.R. Tolkien's 'On Fairy Stories' comes to mind--recovery, escape and consolation).

The only issue was that the imagination and creativity needed a change of focus. But Yuuta(and others) need to be 'normal' and 'respectable' pushed them into silencing her. Not helping her overcome her father's death, but crushing her spirit. You don't do surgery with a sledgehammer Yuuta.

I wrote out about a page of thoughts last night.....wow, what a powerful episode. This is a real keeper.....depending on what happens in the last episode. Knowing Kyoani, it will be good.

Dekomori’s verbal assault on Yuta after her voice fails to reach Rikka makes for a very powerful conflict of characters who both want the best for their friends, but know that compromises have to be made, and no choice is necessarily the correct one. In the end, Dekomori is completely broken, an especially harsh event to experience because of her usually oppressive upbeat attitude, and Yuta clearly sees that he may not be doing this entirely for Rikka’s sake, and is still trying to discard the person he used to be, using the situation that the girl he loves is in to help himself out, although this potential selfishness is of course not intentional. It’s not a happy episode, but it’s moving, and sets up the finale nicely.

Just a reminder, when you're the first tp post a new episode subthread, please reply to the first/op post in the thread so it starts a ne subthread (yours was posted under ep 10)

Episode 11:

- Not even a minute in and I'm tearing up. Why do you do this to me, KyoAni? ;_; But heh, Yuuta's payment is, uh, getting blackmail materials returned. More importantly, a hug and a heartfelt thanks. Awww.
- Then Rikka. With two blue eyes. I can't get used to the sight.
- Heh, awwwwww, Yumeha's tearful goodbye mixed in with their messed up role playing. :sd:
- Three weeks without chuunibyou. Is she even Rikka anymore? And maaan, what about Deko-chan? ;_;

- We need more Kuzuha.
- Rikka really is trying her best. I just hope she doesn't lose something important in the process.
- Speaking of Dekomori. ;_; Gah, honestly, I think that's the most problematic part of this. It's got to hurt Rikka not to play with Sanae anymore, and it quite clearly hurts Sanae too. Oh Deko-chan, you'll always have Shinka, at least!

- Oh god oh god oh god, Rikka asking the girls to be friends was cute beyond the cutest cuteness. And thank goodness they reacted positively, or I'd be so depressed.
- Rikka is happy. Yuuta is happy. But Shinka... she understands something is wrong with this picture. It's not that it's bad that Rikka gets along with her mom. Or that Rikka is meeting new friends. Or that Touka doesn't have to worry anymore. These are all really great things. But...

- Dekomori sways with sadness. ;_;
- The look of sheer joy on her face when she sees Rikka getting excited about the stones is absofuckingloutely heartbreaking because you know exactly where this scene is headed. Sanae is a really crucial piece of this whole "rejected chuunibyou" development for Rikka, because if it weren't for her, Rikka's struggle wouldn't be as multifaceted. It's really more meaningful to see her struggle with the change when it affects other people too. It also really helps to see the struggle through that other person as well.
- ...Oh wow. Okay I didn't expect it was going that far. That was... wow. MY HEART. Shinka is the only person who truly understands and can help Sanae right now. Pulling Sanae in close and hugging her and stroking her hair, ffffffffffffffffffffff- that seriously made me cry. They're so so so amazing together. Early on my reaction to Shinka was that she was amusing but bitchy, and just not a very good person, but the way she has become the emotional and moral center of the club has been utterly delightful to watch. I just love characters like that. Think of Ami in Toradora, for another really stellar example. It's easy to screw up female secondary characters in these school romcoms, by turning them into little more than romantic rivals for the protagonist's affections. But you can achieve truly great things with such a character when their defining trait becomes not how they relate to the protagonist but how they relate to other characters. I could go on for pages about this, but suffice to say, I absolutely adore Shinka right now.

It's almost hard to continue the episode after that. I feel like I need a moment to collect myself.

- Yuuta is so torn. And I've seen some harsh things said about him, but I can't place a lot of blame on him. Touka was very sincere and heartfelt when she asked for his help, and I truly believe he's doing the absolute best he can to help the whole Takanashi family out. But he's been given an almost impossible task. In that sense you could say Touka is the source of most of the problem but that's not fair either because she's shouldered the biggest burden of anyone all this time. So do you go back to their mother? But Rikka's the one who shut her heart to her and... honestly this is nobody's fault. It just is.
- "I don't know what I can and can't keep." Guh, what a punch in the gut. Rikka is trying so hard to be "normal" but this is territory she just doesn't know how to navigate.
- Mom wants Rikka to visit her father's grave already. Is Rikka ready for that? The fact that she's seeking Yuuta's opinion on everything tells me she's not. She really needs him to guide her through all this.
- Problem is, he's just a kid like her. He doesn't have all the answers. That's why he just turns it around, and she answers what her mother wants, not what she wants, but he picks it up and suggests she go with that. You can hear the relief in his voice. He's really not ready for this responsibility.

- Kumin-senpai~

- Off Rikka goes... but not before Sanae shows up again. And then damn, Sanae and Yuuta simultaneously take their frustrations out on each other. Yuuta had so much bottled up, and it's Sanae's misfortune to have been the one to unleash it. Her "I know that" is even more heartbreaking than Rikka's ealier line. Yes, Sanae knows. She really can tell reality from fiction. But goddamnit, that's not the point, is it? Making her admit it out loud is cruel. Yuuta didn't mean to be that harsh, but harsh it was anyway. Being happy should be the point, and Sanae knows Rikka better than anyone else. Far, far better.

...Man. What an absolute god-tier episode. Every second of every scene was just perfect. But Sanae and Shinka completely stole the episode. Goddamn.

very well thought out post. In these messy situations you do have to give a lot of grace to people. Yuuta is put into a bad position. They all have to deal with their own issues even in the process of reaching out to help others. Giving them grace is important.

I like the fact that it was really messy. they made a ton of obvious mistakes, but also did a lot of things right(Shinka comes to mind). The sort of give and take of this kind of situation really grabs at your heart.

This episode was one of those rareified air episodes whe get every now and again....one that really makes you think. I expect the next episode to begin the turn to a resolution that helps these young characters put their imagination and their hearts into proper context. I can't wait to see it.

Rikka did, yes, but then that situation came about as a result of her mothers decision not to tell Rikka about her fathers condition, which ended up leaving Rikka more shocked by his death than anyone. That's the root of the whole thing. It was a terrible decision of which the aftereffects are still felt, and the fact that mom apparently left Rikka behind (and in a place where she was miserable, too) without successfully patching things up can't have helped matters much.

So I think that yes, to a certain extent, her mother is to blame for the resulting issues. Of course, that's not to say she's a bad person or anything - she simply wasn't strong enough to do the right thing and prepare Rikka for her dad's passing, and that's coming back to bite everyone in the ass years later.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Dekomori destroyed her beautiful twintails.

Oh god, Kumin has gone chu2.

And either Deko or Kumin has a body guard. One of them is filthy rich. Or the prime minister's daughter, I guess.

And we never did see the scene where Yuuta told Rikka to accept reality which is a really bizarre thing to skip ENTIRELY.

Unfortunately, the drama just really didn't do much for me. There was nothing really wrong in execution it just.... wasn't interesting, I guess. The show was great overall but that leaves me feeling pretty meh about these last two episodes.

Beautifully executed ending. Multiple closures from Rikka coming to terms with her father's death, her connection to Yuuta and both Shinka and Yuuta coming to terms with their Chuuni pasts. The beach scene was perfect.

Kumin taking on the Wicked Eye was hilarious and I never would have expected it. When Dekomori showed up without her twin tails I was almost as freaked out as Yuuta. ;) Having the gang all join in to help at the end was a great move by the writers. It emphasized the bond that had been formed by them.

-What are you doing here? Who are you? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE REAL DEKOMORI, DES!?
-Kumin has absorbed all the Chuu2 energy. She is now Super Kumin!
-Shinka is deep, because Yuuta is shallow.
-Rikka's gone. This isn't okay.
-What do you mean "Okay" Yuuta? Ugh. You just keep digging the hole of being the most annoying male lead of the year (who wasn't in Accel World or Sword Art Online).
-Fuck yeah Dark Flame Master!... wait what?
-Suddenly a Boss Battle: Second Tyrant's Eye, Super Kumin! Fight: Yes/No?

-The Dark Flame Master created the Tyrant's Eye!
-Awww. Embrace the madness.
-Who the hell did you guys get here? Dekomori is a convenient ojou-sama?
-Papa is in the galactic core now.
-Now a narrator? Teh hell? "We're all mad eighth graders." Uh sure dude.

Um huh. That was a moving yet oddly unfulfilling last episode. This has been a weirdly unbalanced show. Starts out cute and fun. Then flips the table on us half way though doing into more serious emotional stuff. Which isn't a bad thing, but it wasn't gradual enough. Going from silly dream fights to holy shit a dead parent.

KyoAni always makes things look gorgeous. Yet was the beautiful shell ultimately covering an empty interior this time? Eh probably not. But that out of place narrator message at the end just rubs me the wrong way for some reason. And KyoAni probably turned a sows ear into a silk purse because apparently Dekomori, Youka and Kumin, the most interesting characters who gave us insight into all of Rikka's personality do not exist in the light novels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C5%ABniby%C5%8D_Demo_Koi_ga_Shitai!). Without seeing that Rikka is a weird girl who still has one loyal equally weird friend, I don't think I'd understand Rikka. Without seeing that Rikka has a stern older sister who cares about her, I don't think I'd like Rikka. Without... um pillow play Rikka'd be uh... okay I got nothing, but Kumin is cute and becomes deus ex naptime in this episode.

Odd show. I guess it does get me thinking more than most KyoAni shows. Which are usually good looking and fun but mostly fluff.

I don't see the problem? The same narrator introduced the concept of chuunibyou at the beginning of the first episode, and returns at the end with some final thoughts. It's just bookending the series.

I actually liked the ending. I wish they had touched on the romance more, and that they had shown the missing dramatic moment that ended the Tyrant's Eye. But I still left feeling mostly satisfied and would definitely name Chuunibyou as my favorite this season. And definitely one of the best of this year.

This show definitely needed another cour. I hope Tamako Market is really good, because I'll probably be pretty bitter that this was the first KyoAni series to be only 12 episodes in such a long time. And this was the Ishihara show, too! I really hope that the next time he gets a show to direct (presumably two KyoAni shows after Tamako Market, since Takemoto will have to get another show out there before Ishihara gets his turn again), it's at least two-cour. I could see this show having been a real masterpiece if it had gotten twice as much time to tell its story. A second season would definitely be nice, but this felt like they were really going for a conclusive ending, so starting from scratch with a brand-new property might be the best option for the next endeavor. Still loads of good stuff throughout, though, and I'm always happy to see this kind of steady stream of KyoAni productions come out, even if I'm not happy with this being the one to be cut short (although I assume Tamako Market will at least initially be only one-cour, since I don't really see KyoAni starting a new two-cour show in the winter; plus, depending on the quality, I could imagine being especially pissed if the Ishihara show ended up being the only KyoAni in all this time limited to one-cour).

It's weird to think that they added so many new main characters when they were already rushed to tell the story in such a short amount of time, but it's even weirder to think of this story without those added characters. Of course, there was definitely some major rewriting, because I don't really imagine the first light novel volume ends with the main character being killed by Rikka's grandpa because the characters who come to the rescue don't exist in that reality.

But yeah, good stuff. Dekomori without her pigtails is crazy. But not the fun kind of Dekomori crazy. Even her "desu"s become basically normal. Of course, she can't keep that up for long. Probably for the best, because I can't imagine her otherwise. And Kumin inheriting Rikka's chuunibyou was definitely unexpected, especially since she hasn't really done anything in the series since her introduction, and she was the only main character without any chuunibyou tendencies that we had seen. But of course, like much of this silliness, it's all really just to help out her friends, which is very nice to see. It's nice to see everyone have some important role in the end, and of course the real focus is still on the main pair, and there are some really nice moments between them. But it really needed more...

Honestly, there is not much of the anime's story beyond a few of the main characters and their present or past chuunibyou. The only plot point that exists in the LN is Yuuta trying to get Rikka to pass the math test. Touka doesn't exist and Rikka is living alone. No Dekomori, no Kumin..

I don't know about you all, but I absolutely loved this episode and the whole show.

Normal!Sanae and chu2!Kumin were amusing. Shinka, though... I like how she came to the realization that, while she may no longer be the fantastical brand of chu2, all she's done was become a different sort of chu2, one that has traded fairy spirits for a fabricated idea of a "normal high school life".

And finally, Yuuta goes out to meet Rikka, their friends come into assist, and then, finally, Yuuta banishments this world to reveal the Invisible Boundary Line to let Rikka bring closure to her loss. The perfect finish, if you ask me; now, chuunibyou is no longer an escape from reality for Rikka, but rather simply a way for her to deal with reality without losing herself.

Simply an amazing show.

I don't know why, but this show affected me a lot more emotionally than most. I really think it's because, unlike almost every other show, I really didn't know how it would end. Every visual novel or game adaption, you could always just look it up online if 'needed'.

I'm happy with the ending. I think, maybe at some level, I would have been a lot happier if it had been less dramatic, there were a lot of positive thematic elements that provide benefit as well. And while more exposition certainly would have been fine, I'm alright with the premise that it does end up alright.

Episode 12:

- How to describe the first scene? It's good that Rikka can calmly visit the grave, and can get along with her mother. But at the same time the moral of all this is that in regaining this, she lost something else, and there has to be a way to become whole again, right?

- !!!!! Saane with her hair down? Wow. She looks amazing, but like a totally different person. Also, not enough deko!

- Hahha and meanwhile Kumin becomes Chuunibyou to take up the slack. =D Awesome.
- Heh and then she breaks character when Yuuta won't play along.
- Rikka passed on the Jaoushingan. :sd: I wonder if Kumin is intentionally baiting Yuuta with that last line about "as long as the Dark Flame Master" lives or if she's really clueless as to what Rikka meant.

- Shinka says what's been hanging over this since the start: they didn't leave chuunibyou behind, they just created a new persona called "normal high school student".
- And she drops another hint for Yuuta.

- Meanwhile Rikka continues to give up part of herself to make others happy - going to far as moving without telling Yuuta, damn.
- Rather conveniently timed letter to yourself, Yuuta.
- More chuu2kumin!
- Shinka/Sanae eyecatch <3

- Kumin brings a story from the past. Hahaha, Rikka first met Yuuta during that bit from one of the Lite episodes! It's also pretty interesting that Rikka entrusted Kumin with all this. Or could she have heard it anywhere else? Sanae?
- Of course. Rikka was a "normal" girl all along, and fat lot of good it was doing her. But she was saved by Chuunibyou. By the Dark Flame Master! This also explains why she changed back to abruptly. When Yuuta himself ordered her to stop, well, his words had power. How could she say no, when she started it because of him? This is just an extension of her tendency to live her life for others.
- And that means it's Yuuta's responsibility to tell her she doesn't have to keep living for others. If she admired that way of life, then she should stick with it - but only for herself.

- The Dark Flame Master arrives! ...but needs to catch his breath first.
- Hahahah oh god Shinka. <3 Poor Isshiki.
- And Sanae and Kumin too! Man, Rikka and Yuuta, you have the best friends. They all got together to prod Yuuta into doing what needed to be done.
- ...Woah. Dark Flame master is badass.
- Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww~

Hahaha, the slow chase into the subset on the bike was hilarious.

Shinka clearly masterminded the whole thing. Only she would be able to organize the whole group like that. And that makes me love her so so much more. ♥

I wasn't sure how well everything could get pulled off in one episode, but damn that was goddamned fantastic.

Replying to something's subthread since it's episode 12.

From the interview with Tatsuya Ishihara in the latest Nyantype:

Due to various circumstances, there were some things cut from the scenario stage that weren't in the scripts regarding the other club members.

Shinka: She threw away her "honors student" persona and appeared in front of her classmates the way she did for the other club members. There was a simple reason for that: "It's tiresome to act that way." It's unknown if she joined the drama club, but I personally wanted her to.

Dekomori: There was a playful scene with her and Shinka that was cut. She truly stopped being infected with chuunibyou and it doesn't look like she'll return at the moment. It may have looked like she did in the final episode, but I too wanted to see her return and so the viewers got a peek at that.

There was nothing really major cut for Isshiki and Kumin. Isshiki did have a scene where he gave a formal confession, but he was rejected. After that, he quit the light music club and joined the bike club.

Also, the new episode on volume 7 will take place after episode 12 and be centered around a certain winter event (that's coming up in real life) with a gag theme. All the club members will show up and it'll be more like episode 4/5 in tone.

Although obviously none of us knows, I'm curious as to whether this was when Kumin was still inheriting Rikka's persona, or afterwards. Might have been an amusing scene.

Interesting notes as a whole. Based upon the comments about the extra episode, that sounds like a more appropriate denouement than episode 12, in some ways. It will be somewhat odd given that it physically comes out in the middle of summer, though.

- Sanae attacks out of nowhere!
- Isshiki got a love letter… and he thinks it may be Shinka? Well, he has 0 chances out of 1 million.
- Rikka, Sanae and Kumin doing their chuu2 introduction. That was amazing!!
- Hehe, I knew it. Yuuta is wearing the t-shirt.
- Kumin never wastes milk.
- LOL! Shinka is rolling around and Isshiki needs to jump.
- Rikka asks Yuuta to hold his hand. The scene was lovely.
- Oh, the class girl rank is back. And Isshiki said it was him. The price? He will have to shave his head. And he really did.
- Hmm… Tooka wants Yuuta to come with Rikka and her on a summer vacation…

This show is amazing. I love it so much. And, Sanae and Shinka definitely need to continue to have battle as soon as they are close enough of each other. This episode made me laugh quite a lot.

- Well, it’s clear that it is really difficult for Touka to deal with it as well.
- Yuuta, doesn’t hesitate a second to help Rikka.
- But…Rikka runs away…
- That’s exactly what I needed. A fun scene, fireworks. This show makes nice transitions between sad and fun scenes.
- Rikka took the train back home…and Yuuta is in the train as well.
- And wow, what a memorable scene it was in the train. Even more memorable with that insert song.
- Shinka and Kumin in a towel scene!
- I was wondering when it would happen…Shinka found out about the writing on her back… and Dekomori pays for it…
- Rikka can’t get into her room… she will sleep at Yuuta’s place… with no one else at home.
- Rikka discovers some weapons…made Yuuta show her…and finds it amazing!
- And she is so exiting since she will try food from the convenience store.
- And… Rikka starts to realize her feelings…

I love Rikka so much. And wow… Yuuta x Rikka are made to be together.

- Rikka sure changed… because of a certain event...
- She is like that since the beach…no doubt everyone would think Yuuta did something to Rikka…
- Touka will give Yuuta a heart attack one day…
- Yuuta suggests Touka to ask Rikka about it and it looks like she didn’t even think about that and she would be embarrassed to ask her…
- That is love you are describing in your own way Rikka.
- Sanae will use force… Hmm…
- It looks like Sanae can flip personality easily too.
- Ouch… Rikka and Sanae Plan A & B didn’t work… at all.
- Shinka found the obvious answer!
- Oh… Rikka in that scene…
- Yeah, that is definitely the perfect role for Shinka.
- Oh wow… that Rikka laugh… and all her reactions following that.
- You can do it, Rikka… you can do it.
- She did raise her head…but maybe a little to fast…
- After Yuuta said that to Rikka will it help her?

- Yuuta with Isshiki now…
- LOL! Yuuta’s reaction when Isshiki puts his head on his shoulder.
- This is so hard on Dekomori… I feel sad for her.
- Oh my god… Embarrassed Rikka… she is using her umbrella…
- And both of them are under the umbrella… this is great…
- Yuuta is so stressed he asks an obvious question to Rikka… “Do you have an umbrella?”
- OMG… The scenery… The insert song… among the best love confessions I ever seen. I’m out of words…
- Bad news… Touka is going to work overseas…

- Dark Flame Master is back… Rikka loves it!
- And I really like Rikka’s outfit.
- Rikka’s will cherish the pictures for sure.
- And here is Rikka’s mother.

- Isshiki just confessed to Kumin, but… surprise… she is sleeping.
- Wow… incredible… Rikka is singing a song on the stage… Amazing…

Depth of Field 1:

- What, CG mecha in my Kyoani anim-- oh it's over already.

Well that's probably why it hasn't been subbed! It's like 2 minutes long and nothing happens! Just Dekomori and Rikka battling against each other in their mecha, very briefly. Well I guess it's worth watching if you like CG mecha...

Other stuff:
- There's another extra where the seiyuu visit KyoAni's offices and lol Ishihara getting all chuu2 with the automatic sliding doors.
- Also Uesaka Sumire is very pretty, it doesn't always show in the promo images that go around seiyuu image blogs because she tends to have a crapton of eyeliner or mascara or whatever that stuff is and that doesn't work. But she looks nice here (even though twintails have always been one style that works so much better in anime).
- And we get to see Ishihara's desk, which has many pictures and figures of K-ON!, Air, Kanon, Chuu2 and so forth around it.

- Wow… that was an impressive start… Rikka saying goodbye, Yumeha saying goodbye…
- And, Rikka doesn’t wear the eye patch since three weeks… she is doing the best she can to understand the situation.
- My god… when Rikka said to Sanae she was done with it… it must really be difficult for Sanae and I know that it is quite a lot difficult for Rikka as well.
- When Rikka was asking new girls to be her friends it was so adorable… After they accepted I applauded with the rest of the class.
- For a moment, Rikka was getting excited about the stones… but then… she said the club will get disbanded today. I just paused before seeing the Sanae’s reaction…let’s go see it now…
- Well, when I see scenes like the Sanae and Shinka one, I would like to be better with words, wording better how I exactly feels while seeing a scene like that, because that scene was so powerful…
- Everything in this episode is so powerful. Just now, when she was packing stuff and doesn’t know what she can keep and can’t keep.
- So Rikka’s mom wants to visit Rikka’s father grave… and she asks Yuuta’s advice. But, does he have the right advice?
- Rikka said that her mom would be happy if she goes… But what about you Rikka????
- And… Sanae was trying again to convince Rikka to go back to who she was…but was unsuccessful. I feel so bad for Sanae…
- I’m definitely out of words… The Yuuta and Sanae scene… Yuuta did keep too much for himself so he overreacted with Sanae, which makes it even more difficult for her… It would be great if Shinka could appear just now…

This was an amazing, a fantastic, a so emotional episode… I’m definitely out of words to describe how good this episode was.

- The pre-OP scene… It was executed so well… The link between the past and the present.
- Sanae with her hair down… she looks so cute. And she looks so different… impressive.
- Kumin has the Jaoushingan now… and she is in character. Didn’t think that would happen. That was amusing. And she had a message from Rikka…
- And of course, Shinka has her message too…
- Wait….what??? Rikka moved?????????????? Oh my god… Find her asap Yuuta…
- It’s like the last episode… “Mama, Grandpa and Grandma were all really happy.” But, what about you Rikka? What about YOU?
- Even in the past she used to say: “…it’s for the best” not thinking about her.
- So that is when Rikka first met Yuuta…or I should say Dark Flame Master.
- So it was Dark Flame Master who cause Rikka eight-grade syndrome.
- She heard his voice… Don’t worry Rikka you really heard his voice, even if you can’t see him.
- And just when Rikka was crying he arrives…
- Wow… I’m out of words again… I can’t describe how I felt when she jumps in his arms and they were hugging each other.
- And everyone is there… Isshiki definitely had the worst role.
- OH MY GOD! The beach scene… WOW!!! Awwwwww….
- And then the closure…

Wow…what a fantastic, amazing last episode. That was AWESOME; I really love how they end the show. I really love the whole show.
