ガールズ&パンツァー
It's a show about girls. It's a show about tanks. And more specifically, it's a show about girls operating tanks and using them to blow up the joint.
Airs Monday, October 8
Animation Studio: Actas
ANN Entry (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=14334)
Official Site (http://girls-und-panzer.jp/)

In this world, Sensha-do, the art of tank-combat, is a traditional Japanese martial art for girls. Miho, a girl who just transfered into the Ōrai Girls' Academy in Ibaraki Prefecture, has been ordered by the academy's student council chairperson to join the school team and compete in the national Sensha-do championships.

Ouch, the 3DCG for both the tanks and the terrain is jarring...
So, in this future/alternate world, commanding a tank is a sign of being a Japanese lady :D And there will be a World Cup competition soon...
The plot is totally non-sensical but Fumikane being involved makes it at least a "try a bit longer". I've got a feeling this will be like Upotte! where it's actually a watchable show once you get past the logic of the show.
And the ending scene with the aircraft carrier was a total WTH!?
Wow, tank porn! Cute girls! Deutchlish subtitles? Was that intended or was I watching some hacked translation?
The POV from the tank was somewhat jarring but cool.
The girls are great, but I don't know about the concept of riding around in tanks using live ammunition on each other. Uppote! was so unreal you could overlook them shooting at each other, but this seems a little too realistic. I hope they have some sort of explanation.

Wow, I new there was some big surprise in the episode, but I sure didn't expect it to be that!
I also didn't expect this to be one of my favorite first episodes of the season. Very nice episode. The video about learning the Panzer to learn what it means to be a woman was hilariously awesome. And the show was just full of nice little details. I was highly amused by the Vice President's head movements as she touted the benefits of getting top grades.
Seitokaichou is the best character, followed by Saori.

That was the most incredibly irritating subtitle issue I've had to deal with in a long time.

Seitokaichou is the best character
Fukuen Misato is really showing off her range recently, from Haganai's mecha BL-loving Rika to Another's psychotic Takako. She does a pretty good impression of a playful Yuuki Aoi here.
In fact, all 3 seitokai members are very well designed, with the VP's thick eyebrows to the PRopaganda chief's single-sided eyeglass.
And I just realized that ninja arts are one of the electives at the end of the video!
Speaking of seiyuu, Miho is voiced by Fuchigami Mai who was Maekawa in Denpa Onna. Totally different type of character and voice

You know what? This was a very good episode. (http://www.seaslugteam.com/2012/10/10/girls-und-panzer-01/)
But seriously, that ship.
I quite liked this episode. It felt less like Upotte and more like Strike Witches than I was expecting.
And yeah, I heard about those pseudo German subtitles. I sure wouldn't watch them, particularly when the characters are just speaking normal Japanese and it's a forced gimmick by the translators.

Well I made it about 13 minutes in. Unfortunately, I just can't deal with this. I was only watching it because I thought I might find the ridiculousness amusing enough, but no such luck. Still, no real loss. Glad to see it's working for some people.

I see I'm not the only one who sees this as Saki with tanks.
From the little snippet at the beginning, I'm sure we'll get to enjoy some fun tank action later on. For this episode, though, I enjoyed the simple but meaningful friendship developed between Miho and Saori and Hana.
And yes, dat ship.

Just commenting as I watch..
All them movin' parts, and all that loooong hair. This'll lead to cryin'.
Does every single one of her teddy bears have a war injury? o.o
"Mandatory Electives"... aren't really electives, now, are they?
The student council president looks sooo familiar, but I can't place who she reminds me of..
Saori looks like she's gonna be a lot of fun to watch. Love polygons!
Man, were they laying it on thick with that propaganda film. (and apparently it had a pretty strong brainwashing effect, too) Hilarious to watch, though.
Love the mandatory electives list.
Tankery - duh
Tea Ceremony, Calligraphy, Flower Arrangement, Archery -- standard stuff
Aikido, Long Sword, Ninja (ninja??) -- hmmm
Incense - A class on incense?
Magic - ....
Sweet potato ice cream!?!? Barbarians!
O.O The entire city is on the back of some kind of super-carrier?
Overall, looks like it could be enjoyable to watch, as it seems to be well aware of the ridiculousness of its own conceit, so is willing to make fun of itself.

So Miho chooses to go to a school which is supposed to not require girls to take tankery classes, only to find out that it was reinstated. It looks like Miho's mother died in an accident while operating a tank, so no wonder Miho wanted nothing to do with tanks. But after being threatened by an authoritative student council and in wanting her close friends to not wimp out for her sake, she decides to take it on. And it turns out that the town is on a huge ship out in the Pacific.
Great first episode, and I was expecting it to be more Girls und Pantsu instead of Girls und Panzer being a show like Strike Witches with the skirts, or something dumb like Upotte. But there is none of that fluff, and the first episode sets Miho up as a character who is trying to run away from her past. Instead, after being pressured by the student council, it turns out that she has the potential to blow the competition, but needs the right mindset for that to happen.

Episode 1:
- First person tank action. It... looks incredibly odd. Something about the way everything moves makes me a little dizzy. >_>
- Pink and yellow tanks. The height of stealth.
- Miho is a very cute dojikko. I approve.
- Rather new seiyuu too. Maekawa in Denpa Onna was great, and also a rather different voice than Miho. A mix of newbies and veterans in the cast all around it seems.
- <3 Saori already. And Miho is such a good girl. <3
- Pushy twintailed loli student council president! Fukuen Misatooooooooo! More of her please.
- So in this world, young girls driving tanks is like... tea ceremony or flower arrangement? A refined artistic expression?
- Tanks are femininity!
- VP is Becky~
- Haha poor Mio, her new friends are completely won over by tanks.
- Awwwwww, Miho's friends are amazing.
- "Guys and tanks seem kinda mismatched to me." Hahah, I love these alternate histories.
And they live on a giant aircraft carrier because why not?
I am utterly in love with this show. Other than the CG, every single thing was perfect. Cute designs, good art, a huge cast of interesting looking characters, and the protagonist's past trauma was handled in a way that gives me confidence this show will handle serious matters as well as the cute fun.
Easily on par with Hidamari and Chuunibyou for best first episode of the season. If the rest of the show is half this good, this is so imported. It's even better than I had expected.

I personally can't stand her but she is a fan favorite for some... she looks just a slightly older Chika-chan from Ichigo Mashimaro.

-Nazi tank moe?
-Pink is bad camouflage.
-Wait am I playing a Skyrim mod with tanks?
-Main girl grew up in a bad home?
-A monocle!
-Tank make better waifus! Is this a totalitarian government in a protracted war?
-Oh hi military cosplay girls in the audience. How you doing?
-These main girls are cute, but why can't we be following Team Army Cosplay Badasses? *crosses fingers that main girls tank blows up before the end of the episode*
-Auch scheisse!
Eh it was cutish. The tank part at the start was the most interesting. The lead three seem the most bland though. They are only friends because the story dictates they are. And they go all exposition dump to explain their character traits early on. *shrug*

Saori, why are you so Best Girl? And why are you so goddamned straight? ;_;
Yukari's lots of fun too. And tanks turn her on.
We only briefly meet the destined fifth girl, Iguchi Yuuka. Er, I mean Reizei Mako.
Also, want more of Team D. Like them a lot. I loved the responses the meganekko got from asking Panzer-chan.
Loved that episode so much. This is easily the second best show of the season right now. If it keeps being this good, its going to be really hard to not import.

-Hiding girl you're not doing so well at How Not to Be Seen.
-Damn it! They gave her lines. It'd be cuter if she was always hiding in the background. Being moe.
-Oh. She's the panzer otaku. :(
-Who did a Tank get inside a cliff? WHY IS THERE A CLIFF ON AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER!?
-Aww team Military Cosplay gets jipped on screen time finding their tank.
-Team six girls finds a tank with extra guns, and mascots living in it.
-Team Military Cosplay's tank has a non moving turret... And they are thankful for it! Hmm. They are all based upon a different historical military and probably a specific general too.
-B... Bikini. *blink*
-"All tanks look alike." Yep.
-"It's like they're having a conversation, but not." Double yep.
-Damn it Panzer otaku! Now that songs in my head.
-Always check to make sure it's locked. Always!
-AH! Zombie!
-Zombie girl is adorably sickly.
-L- Live rounds...
-Zombie is in danger!
-Moe tank is MOE!
This is Saki with tanks. It doesn't exactly work. Also the main characters are the least interesting tank team.
Wait a second... They find the lost tanks in a forest, a mountain, a lake and inside a building (castle). HOLY CRAP THE TANKS ARE VOLTRON LIONS!

Yukari, a.k.a. Tank Otaku Girl, is awesome in every way, from her stalking the main character to switching modes anytime tanks get brought up.
I also like how we get to see a bit into the different teams and their girls; the former volleyball club is particularly amusing.
And Miho apparently comes from an outright school of tankkraft (that's what I'm calling it), and isn't particularly happy about it. (Yet another thing that makes this show very Saki-esque.) Good thing Saori knows just when to change the topic.
Everything else was great, too.

Time to start tankery training. But before you can't have tankery class without tanks, so it's time to take out those skeletons in the closet. And Miho and company will be using the Pantsu Aho, err, Panzer Vor. First order of business, introduce the instructor Ami Chouno. Now it's time for a mock combat. And you gotta kick to properly steer this thing.
Just like the first episode, this one picks up right where things leave off with the girls getting ready to do some tank training. This show continues to exceed my expectations, and in all likelihood, I will be watching this. Seeing the girls having trouble handling those tanks is truly something.

Episode 2:
- Tanks are sorta like cars, right? >_>
- New girl, Yukari! No-name seiyuu, only did a Bakatest role before.
- Total talk otaku. Likes rubbing her faces on old tanks found out in the woods. ...Why the hell was a tank there? :sd:
- Tanks acquired. Teams assigned.
- APOLOGIZE TO THE FINNS! XD
- Oh god Yukari has it bad for Miho.
- I twitch with absolute glee every few seconds while watching this show. I love it love it love it.
- Oh my. Yuzu in that bikini. Wow.
- Hey, it's Miho's sister, Teru. ...I mean, Maho.
- Saori is a great friend. She knows when Miho needs a bit of cheering up.
- Everyone sucks at cooking. Saori ot the rescue! Saori with glasses!
- Yay, we meet the last girl, Mako. She's... not really a morning person.
- Ahahaha, their instructor makes the best entrance. And you just knew it would be a woman to crush Saori's hopes.
- I love the girl from the cosplay group who always has one eye closed. What was her name... Saemonji.
- HAHAH one girl asks the internet for help learning how to pilot a tank. "I don't know what model it is so I can't answer." "Google it." "Take off your clothes." DEFINITELY SOUNDS LIKE THE INTERNET!
- Haha Yukari is so in her happy place.
- That kick. XD
- Suddenly tank action!
- ....And we're about to run over one of the main characters. Ooops!
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SHOW.

Tank Driver get! Mako and her low blood pressure issues lead to many funny situations, from her giving up because she has to wake up at 5 am for the match, to Team A using extreme measures to wake her up. Didn't think that Tari Tari's horse-riding through town could get trumped so quickly...
Considering how much this series is similar to Saki, it's amusing how un-Saki-like Ueda Kanna is as Momo. And after a session of Pimp my Tank, the Student Council tank is not yellow, it's gold! Team A's tank looks normal from the outside, but lol at the interior.
Time for a match against the St Gloriana Afterschool Tea Tank-girls (which is the opening scene from Episode 1). And if you think the Oarai aircraft carrier was ridiculous, the St Gloriana one is even more so! Sounds like all (girl?) schools are floating instead of on land for some reason...
Chibi-tank in the ED changes and it's the turn of the Student Council and their 38(t). Yuzuko is too cute...
Damn, what a guilty pleasure this is turning out to be. Absolutely silly premise but between the girls and the tanks I'm loving it. Pink, gold and scarlet tanks! The background music snippets are fun with one of the girls humming "Scotland the Brave" and the music they were playing before the competition started (can't remember the name). The attention to the tank details is amazing (ranks up there with K-On! for musical instruments, and Upotte! for guns). Miho gets sucked into commanding the tank and then commanding the whole squad! And what is the angelfish dance?

The attention to the tank details is amazing (ranks up there with K-On! for musical instruments, and Upotte! for guns).
Takaaki Suzuki is the military history advisor for the show. He played the same role in Strike Witches and Upotte. And it's not just the tanks themselves but the strategy and tactics that are realistic too. The part where you drive the tank to just behind the ridge with only the turret showing where you can shoot at others while being protected, for example.

I agree. The little details really add to this show such as the smoke when they start the engines or the way the suspension reacts. I was even impressed when the Lee threw a track trying to retreat. They could have just had it just bog down but they went to the trouble of actually animating it. I hope they show us the automotive club at some point with a real tank recovery vehicle and transporters. They're the unsung heroes of the Sensha-dō competition!

So are the white flags automatically triggered upon being hit hard enough by a round (or losing tank treads) or something? I suppose that's one way for the whole battle system to work.
Mako is great, too; she sees the tank coming and just jumps right on top of it. And she learns how to drive all from reading the manual in about, oh, 30 seconds. Only problem is, she's totally not a morning person. At all.
And firing tank rounds turns Hana on.
And, of course, the girls feel the need to primp up their tanks (much to Yukari's dismay). The IV was limited to interior decorations, but man, those other tanks... Pink 38(t)...
Only in this setting can you drive a tank up to a friend's house and fire a blank to wake her up. :D
I love the scene where the girls were riding the tank through the streets and everyone was poking their heads out the window to watch. Actually, I just love this whole setting in general. Cities atop aircraft-carrier-like ships, people gathering to watch tankkraft matches... it's a lot of fun.
Just like this show. Definitely one of the best this season.

-Holy crap! She rolled a 20 on that vs Tank Death saving throw. *hop*
-Oh no. A bridge and during the enemy phase's bombardment. *Valkyria Chronicle flashback*
-Ceasar has said her notable quote. Her work here is done.
-Is Mako's last name Ray? That was a fast manual reading.
-Wait how did they turn the barrel around on the bridge? The treads were scraping the sides. The barrel isn't that short.
-No girls your ears would not be ringing. None of you would have any ear drums left after the gun goes off without the right headgear.
-ENGRISH!
-Squad team planning in a bath house... sure whatever.
-Mako Ray (Z) has joined joined the party. Hooray bribery.
-Now to make the inside of the tank soft and adorable. :sd:
-The birth of the Char Custom Assault III! It's three times faster than an ordinary tank.
-Mako quits. Mako wants to sleep in.
-Waking up Mako is impossible.
-Do the impossible. Wake the unwakeable. Mako. Mako. Take a shower.
-Garbage kitty! Someone adopt him now.
-Ending moe tank changed! Yay~ That means team Historical Reenactors will get an adorable ending.

Mako is reading the book, and is fainting at the helm. Miho's squad is ambushed on the bridge, but somehow wins the round due to dumb luck. And while the tanks are repaired, the girls use a ton of cute decorations to spruce them up to look girly. Up next, an exhibition match against St. Gloriana. And they gotta arrive by 6AM on Sunday, something that's problematic for Mako. So the solution, they wake up the whole town by escorting Mako on the tank. It's time for the first Panzer contest.
It is another great episode here, and this time it focuses on Mako and why she is always late to school. Turns out she has a certain medical condition, and that's quite a problem. Up next is the match with St. Gloriana, and at this rate, it looks like a total defeat is on the horizon unless Miho's dumb luck comes through again or something. This show just continues to be great.

Why is this show so good? Goddammit, I don't want to import two shows this season. Hell, I think I might like this more than Chu2koi...
Anyway, yay for Mako joining the team. I can relate all too well to her dislike of getting up early. And the other girls helping her get ready in the tank was pretty funny.
Also, goddamn, St. Gloria is huuuuuuge.
Oh, and Saori? Stop worrying about a goddamn husband you don't need and start worrying more about turning one of those cuties around you into your wife.

Back to adorable girls in tanks! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
Episode 3:
- Haha what the hell Mako just wakes up and jumps on the tank. I guess they did slow down a bit, but they didn't try to steer around her or stop.
- Oh maaaaaan, the way that bridge sagged when the tank came onto it made me twitch. Scary.
- A direct hit! I guess it's a good thing these rounds aren't explosive. :sd:
- Hana is out! Get a new driver stat! Mako?
- Maaaaan why is everyone converging on poor Team Miho?
- Yes! Go go Mako!
- One shot, one kill! Go Yukari!
- ...I think Hana just came.
- And the last team is bad at mud.
- Gaaaaaaaaah this is the best thing. Goddamn. Yukari glomps Miho in joy!
- Bathing scene, yay! Niiiiiiice, Saori.
- All pretty impressive actually. Except Mako. But DFC is fine too!
- HAHAHA Hana is still horny for firing the main gun. Awesome.
- Mako is adorable when she blushes. And plays all tsuntsun. =D
- Interior decorating for tanks, heh. Yukari is appalled.
- Cosplay team tank. Pink tank. Golden tank shining brighter than the sun! And two normal tanks. Well, with curtains and pillows inside...
- Oooh, other school rivals.
- More practicing. More gungasms for Hana.
- "Meet at 6am!" Mako: "I'm quitting." XD
- Oh god Mako cracks me the hell up.
- I hope Saori blackmailing Mako becomes a running gag.
- AHAHAHA waking Mako up with a tank. XD
- So schools being on supercarriers is normal now. What's up with on shore?

Need mooooooooooooooore! This show is perfect.

Like the previous show, since this show is a high possibility for import, I didn’t comment “scene by scene” for the first episode. I just watched something that was really amazing. At this point, this is my favorite episode of the season and there is still only one episode to watch (Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!).
I really like the three main girls already. The student council president is awesome.
As for import? It is almost a lock at this point. Watching one or two more episodes will probably make it a lock.

Okay, let's take the fight to the town! Where people are randomly milling about and buildings are completely unprotected!
...oh wait, they want the tanks to destroy their buildings so they can build new ones in better places. Man, this setting is weird and awesome.
And Hana has taken up tanks because she feels her family-tradition arrangements don't have enough vigor. I would love to see a tank-inspired flower arrangement, personally.
Tournament time! Though I hope between matches we have a little more time with our characters.

The match result was as expected, but the Ooarai team really did much better than predicted considering their inexperience and inferior tanks. With the exception of the 1st years who abandoned their post, the other 3 non-lead teams did their best.
The cosplayers were hilarious with their bragging about their Stug's low profile after getting the kill and forgetting that their banners are above fence height and then tanks can shoot through them :D As was Momo missing from point blank range and totally getting blasted from multiple enemies.
Didn't like the part about Hana's mom, but at least she's voiced by Kurata Masayo (Love Hina's Shinobu). Talk about a blast from the past.
The BGM continues to be top class, with the British Grenadiers theme for St Gloriana and the Battle Hymn of the Republic for Saunders. There also seems to be multiple versions of the main theme. There is a military brass version (used in the tank battle scene Ep 1), an orchestral version (the pan-out to Ooarai at the end of Ep 1), a playful version (shopping for cushions in Ep 3) and now a sentimental piano version for after Hana's confrontation with her mother. Kinda surprising to find out that the music is done by Shirō Hamaguchi, who also did the Tari Tari OST, my favourite of the year.
And I love the tank cakes in the preview scene

It's onto a sparring match with St. Gloriana. The difference in experience was pretty obvious at the beginning and were about to be a blowout win for the Gloriana Tea Time as their tactics turned into an ambush. But Miho comes through and is able to separate the battalion. Their guts took down four of the tanks, but the heavy armor gave the Tea gals the win. They fought well considering that they haven't been around for very long. Next up, their first official match against an American academy. This time, the volleyball team is in the ending.
That was a fun episode there. I was expecting the tea tankers to blow them out, and while they did win Miho did put up a great fight, seeing how she is inheriting her mother's skills. Now the real fight begins with their first opponent being Americans.

Episode 4:
- Drinkin' tea on a tank. So refined.
- I adore Miho so much. Despite having the "tank trauma!" background, and seeming at first like a very "normal" girl, she's pretty damn clutch when in a commanding role. She's confident, smart, and very good at what she does. It's a joy to watch.
- Drinkin' tea while being shot by tanks. Hardcore.
- And there's the shot that ended the flash forward in the first episode.
- Hahaha, their goal is to fight the battle without spilling their tea. Oh Gloriana.
- Awwwww, Saori is worried about Miporin. <3 And Miporin is pretty badass. Shrapnel? She's not worried about no shrapnel.
- And what's that about the tanks being coated with carbon inside? So some kind of carbon nano armor I guess? That would explain how they're able to use rounds that can blow huge holes in mountains...
- Momo, you are a lunatic. Also, pretty terrible at this.
- Poor Miho. She's surrounded by idiots.
- Heh. Anzu is so unconcerned. Life is a bit game for her.
- The pink loli tank has been abandoned! Two down.
- Bwhahah I love how they're rolling through town firing rounds that leave big craters in the road.
- And people just stand on the side of the road, completely unprotected. o_O
- Cosplay tank and Volleyball tank score kills! Your turn, Miporin-gumi.
- THE TEA SPILLED. SHIT IS GETTING SERIOUS.
- Haha damnit, your stupid banners gave you away. Also I guess property damage is completely okay in these matches.
- And volleyball team counted their victory a bit prematurely...
- Team A is all that's left. Go go Miho!
- Hahaha, okay so not only is property damage okay, the citizens look forward to it because insurance will reimburse them enough to buy a new place.
- Also this first person stuff is awesome. And for what it's worth, this show probably has the best use of 3dcg I've ever seen in anime, period. And given how much I hate the stuff on principle, that's pretty high praise. The one thing that still realy bugs me is the characters being CG when they're sticking out of the tanks in some shots, but oh well.
- Cornered! Student council to the rescue!
- ...HAHHAHA Momo you're the worst. YOU ARE THE WORST. But I like you.
- They escape. And take down two more, andddddddddd... awwww. So close, Miho. Fantastic attempt! And it definitely makes sense for Ooarai to lose here. If anything I'm surprised they got to close.
- Darjeeling, that better have been roundabout praise, because you know Miho did damn well...
- Ahahahah oh wow. Anzu, of course, is just having a shitload of fun doing that horrible dance. (Also... lots of jiggle in Team A.)
- Go away, Hana's mom. Hana needs tanks! They help her orgasm!
- Damn, Hana is hardcore. She gets disowned by her family and it ain't no thang for her.
- Awww, good. The pink tank loli team apologized.
- And Darjeeling acknowledges Miho as her rival!
Girls und Panzer: Zenkoku-hen!
My god. This show is outrageously good. And just as importantly, it's being recognized as such in Japan. It's been the second best-ranked show of the season on Amazon during the past couple weeks alongside Chuunibyou (not counting Gintama).
One thing I find very impressive about this show is the flow of the tank battles. Not being a tank expert I can't compare these models to their real-world performance, but something about how they move feels so authentic anyway. There's a real feeling of weight and power to everything. The urban battles were especially impressive in this regard.
I expected this show to be good, but wow. It's pretty much a dead heat with Hidamari and Chuunibyou, and that I did not expect.

- “Seducing a man” No need for that. Seducing a girl is way more important!
- And we meet Mako!

It seems to be hitting the sweet spot between the anime fans and the military, especially tank, otakus (otankus?). The models of their tanks seems to be doing well in orders too.

In short, someone fucked up big time and episode 6 will not be ready. Next week, we will get episode 5.5. The content is unknown. I'm expecting partial recap and maybe some tank history.
The question is how they'll distribute it. For rather obvious reasons I'd rather consume a rabid dog's three-day-old shit than ever download a release from Commie, so Crunchyroll better find a way to stream this even if it, as would seem likely, doesn't get a normal TV broadcast.
I also hope the staff doesn't use "streamed final episode" as an excuse to delay release for a month or three like most every other show that has had streaming episodes. You'd think they shouldn't because this is just a delayed episode and not a bonus episode, but you'll have to excuse me for being suspicious.

Can't wait to see the rest of the match..... too bad its going to be a 2 week wait. ;_;

- A tank cafe, and that's a fancy way to order stuff. Sound a shot to alert the waitress, and the cakes come out on mini-tanks.
- Maho sure likes to rub it in on Miho.
- Time to plan for Saunders. But first, Odd Ball Yukari returns from an espionage mission.
- Game day is here. It seems like Saunders is always one step ahead.
- So that's what is happening. Saunders is wire-tapping.
- Smart thinking using the radio to fool Saunders, then using the cell phones for the counterattack.
This show just continues to be great. It seems like Yukari and Kay are getting along just fine even though she spied on them. And of course, this episode is a battle to show that just having high-end machinery isn't enough. The oddsmaker would make Saunders the prohibitive favorite to win considering that this is an elite program going up against one that is using skeletons from the closet and haven't been around very long. But Miho seems like she knows how to command the troops like a seasoned vet. Next up, the conclusion of the first match, but it will be awhile as there is a delay in production likely pushing the end of the show well into the winter season, so a recap episode is coming.

- Haha, the cakes come out on a truck.
- Awww those adorable cake tanks.
- Saori's voice is outrageously cute. Yay Kayano Ai.
- Uh oh it's Teru Maho! And fuck yeah for Miho's friends sticking up for her. Mako got the best zinger in.
- A visit to Yukari's house. Her room looks about as you'd expect. Heh, I wouldn't put it past her for those rounds on her wall to be live...
- Haha knew Yukari would infiltrate Sanders. I love that she added a soundtrack to her video.
- Uh how is she filming herself? It doesn't look like she's holding the camera, and that would be very suspicious if she were.
- Bwhahaha, of course she outs herself. But hey, she was pretty successful, really.
- I love how the zettai ryouiki chick just thinks this is all hilarious.
- I was just about to ask if this kind of espionage was allowed, but the snow answers for me. Yes it is.
- Awww... you're a good girl, Yukari.
- Morning practice!
- Haha, Yukari is very intrigued by Miho's three sizes. And I almost missed Mako massaging Saori in the background. XD
- Oh hey they painted their tanks more normally. Good, they're more serious about this now.
- They look good in their new uniforms.
- Almost time for the match!
- And there's Hirano Aya's character.
- Oh wow I definitely love Kei. Everything is hilarious for her.
- Man, I know war isn't fair, but for a tournament like this it seems unbalanced for one school to have twice the number of tanks. I know 10 is a cap and it's up to each team to field as many as they can up to the cap, though.
- Go go Karina-chan! Adorable always-looking-spaced-out girl. But man, six on one for loli tank team.
- Nice job escaping the forest. But their communications are being intercepted.
- Oh, wow that was a much simpler solution than I was thinking. Just use your cell phones!
Soooooooo good. Now to wait two weeks for the rest of the fight. ;_;
It's great to see this show is still kicking ass in Amazon preorders. The first BD is currently the 8th highest ranked DVD/BD on Amazon Japan in any genre, second highest ranked in anime (behind only Gundam UC) and best ranked of the Fall season (not overall, but at the moment at least). It's been trading Fall leads with Chuunibyou for weeks now. None of the other shows this season have touched those two in some time.

No love for 5.5? Okay yeah it's recap so there's not much to say, but it's GirlPan. I'm excited anyway!
Episode 5.5:
- Initial story premise recap. "HEY KANOJO!" God I love that. Then the initial confrontation with the eeeeeevil student council.
- Introductions! Takebe Saori. Isuzu Hana. Reizei Mako ("All good things come to those who wait", heh). Akiyama Yukari (favorite flower, dandilion. Wouldn't have guessed that.)
- The other teams. Student Council team is first. And heh, Yukari takes over when it's time to introduce the tanks.
- Next up, volleyball club team. Heh, I initially misread Shinobu's favorite flower as "Broccoli".
- After that, history otaku team. Haha, Caesar's favorite tank is Da Vinci's circular "tank". so their historical periods of choice are Roman (Caesar), European/WWII (Erwin), Japanese Sengoku (Saemonza), and Japanese Bakumatsu (Oryou).
- Lastly, the cute 1st years! Heh, the space cadet girl is introduced as a "good listener". I'm surprised she even knows what planet she's on let alone can follow a conversation.
- We relive Hana's first tank fire-induced orgasm.
- Fish dance!
And I love how the ED splits the screen into four to show all the teams (except the 1st years).
Even recap is awesome when it's Girls und Panzer!
By the way, http://hijiribe.donmai.us/pool/show/6219 is quite useful. All the members and some basic information on the Ooarai girls, translated from the official site.

That was a tense battle. We knew the heroines would win in the end but they certainly dragged the suspense out to the max.
Arisa going from full of confidence to total meltdown and blabbing about her love life was a hoot to watch. Hirano Aya must have had real fun doing the recording for this. Kay reminds me of Strike Witches' Shirley.
I loved the part where the Volleyball team and their Type 89 stumbled upon Arisa and her flag tank. They just stared at each other like two samurai warriors in between bamboo trees.
The animators are getting more creative in the shots where they show the tank from the outside and the characters inside their small polygons talking to each other. First there was Momo sticking her head outside her polygon after Yuzu teased her about missing (again!). And then you have the Volleyball team's polygons blowing apart after their tank got hit.
Edit : Oh yeah. I know that translators sometimes have the leeway to 'localize' the things said, but the "This is a slam dunk" comment that Arisa makes was a bit of a cheap shot at Colin Powell's UN presentation before the invasion of Iraq.

What this desperately needs is two cour... if only they could have known ahead of time what a big hit it would be (it's been outranking Gundam UC more often than not during the past week...) I'm sure they might have cleared a second cour or a sequel right off the bat. Actually, I'd bet someone is busy at work writing material for one right this season. If the projected sales numbers are accurate at all a sequel is a total given.

He tends to draw in a style that isn't easy to animate without losing something, I think. (Compare to say, namori, which just begs to be animated.) I really love the anime designs in this show, but the original art is damn good too. And yeah I'd agree Sky Girls was closest. Damn, what a tease. We don't even see the match with Anzio, just their ruined tanks. One of which was a tiny, single-person tank. Kinda disappointed that we didn't get to see the match, particularly since Anzio's leader was some sort of sadist.
Mako is amazing. She immediately become an expert driver for any tank just by flipping through the manual. And Yukari's ringtones are bad for Mako's heart. Lot's of great Mako scenes this episode.
And Miho gives her first leadership speech. Uh, kind of. It was about three words, but I guess it counts. I guess the usual advice for stage fright doesn't help her much. (https://twitter.com/i/#!/Hitokiri1/media/slideshow?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftwitpic.com%2Fbgukk3)
Also, Saori giving love advice. Um, yeah. That worked out about as well as you'd expect. Both for the advice she gave and how it turned out for her. There's, um, much better options than the tank. ALL AROUND YOU.
Oh, and we finally find out what happened in Miho's past match. Wasn't quite what I expected.

With Miho and company getting their upgrades and "new" tanks, I don't think that there was probably much to see. ^^; (Edit: Oops? Someone elsewhere mentioned that they didn't fight Anzio with their new gear, but will have it for the upcoming big fight. I wasn't paying enough attention to Miho's tanks.) A push-over battle like that might have been nice to get a quick look at, but seeing the parts acquisition was a bit more important.
I liked that we actually had a chance to see some of the town-ship's crew (or at least I think that that was their role; I was only watching a raw episode).

- Time to trap those Saunders tanks using the radio as misdirection.
- Kay has finally figured it out. And she prefers to have a fair fight.
- Two tanks are down with Saunders chasing.
- Up the hill for a risky one-shot win.
- And Ooarai wins! Their snipe hits Kay just a moment before Miho's tank bites the dust.
- Way to dampen the mood. Mako's grandmother is in the hospital. Maho was generous to lend her their chopper.
While Saunders is quite a strong opponent, it seems like they rely on their numbers and tricks too much and when their trump card was snuffed out, pretty much only Kay knew what to do. Not exactly the most organized academy out there, as they pretty much thought that the only way to command the tanks was through the radio. But with Kay in charge, at least they were not as disorganized as they could have been, and she prefers to do things the honorable way. Pretty nice episode overall to see how far this ragtag bunch using skeletons from the closet have come. - Mako's grandmother may be ailing, but it's not enough to keep her from being cranky.
- So that's why Miho wanted to quit tankery for good. She surrendered a match to save her teammates when their tank fell into the drink.
- Win at all cost is the Nishizumi family motto. But not something Miho can live under.
- The search for the hidden tank is on. The ship is a maze, but the tanks are finally found.
- After all that, time for a bath.
- And Oarai makes quick work of the Italians. Anchovy is seeing stars after a quick battle.
While it was a good episode that revealed Miho's history about why she was determined to quit tankery for good, I would have liked to see more of the match against Anzio. It seems like Anchovy is the type of commander with an insanity streak, but we will never know for sure what the Italians bring to the table since only the decisive blow was shown. Now that this ragtag bunch has won twice that they are now getting their name across. Next up, the Russians.

- Miporin is under attack! An avalanche of questions. But her teammates step in to cover mechanics, paperwork, driving, and love.
- Hah, maybe Mako won't be of much help with steering anyway. Her teachings boil down to RTFM.
- "Hey guys we should have more tanks lying around somewhere." >_>
- lol at the explanation for the school ships.
- Tank get! Looks likc a piece of crap but I'm sure the mysterious vehicle club will have it ready to go in no time.
- Saori and the first years are lost in the bowels of an enormous friggin' ship.
- Hana doesn't afraid of anything. Yukari takes advantage of the dark to get her hands on Miho at the first opportunity.
- Haha, Yukari's ringtone nearly killed Mako.
- Saori harem get!
- Wait how the heck are they going to get that tank out of there?
- So many girls bathing!
- Eyes. All over naked Miho. =D
Daaaaaaaaaaamnit. End of this episode = why this show should be two cour. ;_; I was holding out some hope that they'd have a full battle with Anzio, and leave the showdown with Maho until a sequel, but considering they just blew through that, I suppose they'll wrap it up this season. Though I still expect a sequel!
Why is this show so much fun?!
Yay, the automotive club shows up! Not a lot of screen time though.
Isn't there one more tank? They upgunned the Miho's IV and added the Goose. I guess they're saving it for the final.
Winter War!! 15 against 6? The numbers keep getting worse.
What did the Pravda commanders drive up in? Stalin's Calliope (Katyusha rocket launcher)?
Loved Pravda's theme song and the girls singing along. Anyone know what it is?
So Miho has been disinherited. Don't like the mom at all. I hope Miho wins it all and spits in her eye.
Hana's mom is coming around though.
Oh god, they did the Bastogne trope. Surrender? Nuts!
How is Miho going to get out of this one?

How is Miho going to get out of this one?Yeah, it's a problem when she can't enforce discipline and her troops' enthusiasm carries them away. Then she gets even more bad news, in an attempt to further crush her. ;_; You can do it, Miho!

Yeah, because the commander's name is Katyusha, she first appears driving a Katyusha and then sings the song "Katyusha" :D
I guess Ika-musume has found a new way of invading and conquering Earth :D

I have to say, i'm really surprised how much i love Garupan. When i first read about the show, i never expected it to be so good. This was suppossed to be my guilty pleasure for the season and now it's my favorite. By far. In a rather strong season with some really great shows.
(now OniAi is/was my guilty pleasure, until they ran out of both ideas and budget XD )
This needs a second season. And a few films. :D

Given the amount of chatter this is generating across the otakudom, and the pre-order numbers, a 2nd season is really a no-brainer. And it's not like Actas is overwhelmed with projects. The challenge would be on how to keep things fresh and interesting. The World Championships of Senshado will obviously be a ready plotline, but they've already gone through a fair amount of WWII-era tanks as well as tactics.
I'm pretty sure that Ooarai town and Ibaraki province would gladly finance part of it with all the tourism and merchandising income they are getting from the show. Heck, even World of Tanks might want to chip in. I don't have any stats to back this up, but I'm guessing they are getting new players because of the anime.
I still think we're more likely to get a Garupan game first though.

Got a really craptacular reply: "The video provided to us by the publisher was for international distribution."
Yeah, no shit Sherlock. What's annoying is that I don't know if they actually looked into it seriously and are saying "The publisher explicitly refused to release the footage with this insert song outside of Japan and there's nothing we can do about it." or just being lazy and saying "Fuck if I know or care, we put up what we get and don't/won't question it."
I know they've fixed this sort of issue before with other shows, which is why the lame response is all the more disappointing.

If they can't win the tank tournament the school will be closed! All those happy memories and the fun of Tankery destroyed. Well duh we figured that out a few episodes ago. That seems a weird way to keep a school open on a nearly impossible bet though. A bet with who though? Or is it just that the school will get more attention and thus funding if they win. I'd think just getting a team FROM NOTHING into the semi finals would be enough for that. Eh i bet they lose in the final round but Darjeeling and the other school's girls find a way to chip in and save the Ooarai school.

Well, it's sort of murky. But then most international IP laws are that way. In the case of "Lili Marleen" it's a bit more straightforward in that it was written by a German and since Germany is in the EU, protection is granted to 50 years after the death of the composer. Since the first recording as a song was in 1939, it might be still under copyright.
In the case of "Katyusha" it was written during Soviet times, so not sure if Russian law applies here if the composer is from one of the other republics. And I have no idea what IP laws the Russians follow.

Yeah, probably not a whole lot they can do about something like this when it was probably only dropped on them a week or two before broadcast - that kind of rights clearance is probably a bit too much to sort out within a short period of time.
I'm rather more curious to see what's going to happen when Sentai put out their physical release - I'd hope that given they've got months of lead time they'd be able to clear the rights for what's a one-time use of an old, old song. Who knows, though.

- Ooarai vs Russian Ikamusume!
- The vehicle team! Yaaaaay.
- New team... not eyepatch and gargantuan tits yet. It's the uptight triplets! Well, one of them is uptight anyway. Sodoko~
- Momo almost lets slip that they'll be disbanded if they lose. No point in Anzu hiding it from Miho anymore.
- But once Miho is there, telling her seems quite hard. Anzu just wants to reminisce about the time she's spent with Momo and Yuzu. Aww.
- And in the end, they say nothing.
- Man, bitch much, mom? Disowning your daughter. What a jerk.
- Everyone is excited for the match. Miho's mom will be there. Hana's mom will be there. Jeeze, the pressure keeps going up. They can't afford to lose this one for a number of reasons.
- Back in Miho's room with the creepy teddy bears.
- Before the battle! Of course the first years just have a snowball fight. The cosplay team builds a snow samurai. Heh.
- Katyusha. The only person Anzu gets to look down on.
- lol Nonna.
- And a parting shot at Miho by Katyusha... ah yes, Miho lost to her last year.
- Uh oh. Miho abandons her plan in the face of peer pressure. There's no way that ends well.
- Holy shit 15 tanks? Looks like the limit is higher here.
- Pravda marches into battle singing their song. Meanwhile... man, Ooarai is pretty damn scrappy looking in comparison, aren't they?
- TAKE THAT, SNOW!
- Ominous reference to Stalingrad.
- Two quick kills, and a heck of a lot of overconfidence. Oh Ooarai. You should learn to trust Miho. =(
And they all rush into a trap, against Miho's orders. Court-martial them all!
Momo lets the secret out, and now it becomes a fight for more than just a tournament win...

Ah, that was a lot of fun.
More dancing from both sides, tanks maneuvering far too easily in the snow and one ending up on its turret after getting shot (with the white flag sticking up from the underside! ^^; ), Yukari playing spotter in the church tower, the student council tank showing that it can do quite well when Momo's not the one doing the shooting, and another nail-biter ('cliffhanger' is a bit too strong of a word, but my choice doesn't sound very good, either) at the finish of the episode.
Just how did those four girls manage to bury their STuG in the snow that quickly?
We get to see the three remaining Oorai girls from OP in their SD tank for the ED. GuP is providing unmarked spoilers! ;p Someone elsewhere identified it as a Japanese Type 3 tank that, while in some level of production, never saw action during WW2. I wasn't expecting to see anything else beyond the recently-found Tiger. Where does the Type 3 turn up, then? ^^; So, presumably Miho's crew will get upgraded to the Tiger for the final round, with another crew getting the Panzer? Provided that they actually win vs. Pravda. ;p
Now to wait for another week, but a subbed ep. 9 will make that wait a little easier. Argh! ^^;

The nicknames of the three girls on the Discipline Committee are allusions to:
Sodoko (medium hair) --> Sodom (the name of an ancient city)
Gomoyo ( long hair ) --> Gomorrah (the name of an ancient city)
Pazobi ( short hair ) --> Italian film director (d.1975) Pier Paolo Pasolini who directed "Salň, or the 120 Days of Sodom" in 1975. Set in 1944 Italy, it is an allegory about Hell, based on a work of Marquis de Sade and in turn based on Dante's Inferno. NSFW.I thought that that was pretty interesting.
Goddamn, what a great episode.Very much so.
3 episodes seems barely enough to wrap things up adequately. And either way, they're introducing the last team really late.It seems like it might be hard to have any sort of epilogue, if the fight with Black Forest is a good one, but we've got three episodes left. Either way, the fight with Pravda will be over almost as soon as the next episode starts, so that still leaves a fair amount of time. As far as the last tank crew goes, have we even seen the girls in the background at any point? I do wonder how they'll introduce both them and their tank...
This must get a season 2.I really hope so. I don't know if there's more source material to draw upon, or if they'd have to invent something for more anime, but I'd love to see more of Miho and the rest of the club.

Who could have imagined that a show about girls and tanks would produce the most heart-pounding, exciting scenes of the season? Terrific episode all-around from the slow first half building up to the non-stop action after the eye-catch.
Anzu finally decides to actively participate and together with Yuzu's driving provided at least 2 kills before Turtle team got hit and turned turtle. They also damaged the IS-2 enough, I think, that the Pravda team needed to fix it, giving just enough time for them to win the match... Or at least I think they will win...
The volleyball team were pretty awesome too, ducking all the attacks, though I think some of the maneuvers were physically impossible for a tank :D
Edit : Rewatching the part where the Turtle team went against the 4 tanks, they only did superficial damage to the IS-2 but distracted it long enough that the rest of the team got a head start

- A new team has been formed: The mallards. Led by Sodoko.
- There is something important the student council has to tell to Miho. Instead, it's a nabe feast.
- So Miho may soon be a Nishizumi no longer.
- Need a game plan to keep warm on Russian seas.
- The Russian tanks are going down. Wait, something is not right if that was too easy.
- And Oarai is in trouble. They are surrounded by Russian tanks, and are asked to surrender in three hours.
- It's do or die. Losing here means the school is history.
Such a great episode here. The schools battle on the frozen tundra and facing the foe that Miho lost to last year. So we see the girls try to stay warm, and at the same time see some great action. And then the shocking truth at the end of the episode was really something that explains everything that led to the reason why Oarai brought back tankery this year. Next episode is really going to be something.

-Aww sleepy Katyusha in a sleigh.
-Mako <3 Sodoko.
-Stop feeling all depressed girls. There's still an hour left. Attack now!
-Singing. Dancing. Borscht. The Russian proletariat is so decadent.
-Embarasing dancing is not going to help. Well maybe keep you warm since so few of the girls have thermal insulating zettai ryouiki.
-HARD CORE TANK ACTION!
-Student council president makes a much better gunner than ol' three eyes.
-A real commander stands on a tank in combat. . . wait what?
-Yes! All you need is one good scout and you can take out all these tanks. Go get them Oddball. Aim for the radiators!
-Mutually assured destruction has been achieved.
-What are you girls doing in the Ending? You haven't showed up in the show yet Peachy, Kitty, & Granny.
It's getting more and more surprising that none of the girls in these clubs accidentally get's their head blown off. Or is taken out when an ammo magazine gets hit. Or is just pierced by a piece of random shrapnel. But I guess that would ruin the adorable exciting fun of it.

Yeah, I've seen that news. I've also seen mention that both 11 and 12 won't be out until March, rather than the previously-announced January date for #11. I first saw that in one forum, or another, but I think that ANN's posted an article to that effect, too (presumably they're all looking at the same source[s]). Just too much rendering needed for the big, final, sibling battle for their poor computer to handle in the planned amount of time?
So, is having to wait for both episodes better than watching 11 and getting stuck on a cliffhanger for two months? ^^; I'm fine with a studio taking more time to give us a proper product, but it's disappointing that they might not have started production with the resources needed to get it done right from the start. Maybe sales success will give them what they need to make a second series without difficulty. It's too bad that this is happening, but I'm still in love with the show. ^^

Saw this on my phone I while I was at work. Needless to say, I was very, very, very not happy.
So, is having to wait for both episodes better than watching 11 and getting stuck on a cliffhanger for two months? ^^
Yes. Most likely, episode 10 will end before the match or just as its getting going. Ending there is much better than ending in the middle of the match when things are getting exciting and I have little doubt 11 will end on a cliffhanger. It's still incredibly obnoxious, but less infuriating than the alternative.

As I was thinking, earlier, elsewhere: To try to think extra-positively, perhaps they've already gotten approval for a second series, which would start in the Spring / April. The two delayed episodes airing in March would provide the perfect lead-in to it.

I don't think its even possible to have a second season that soon unless it was already planned. Pretty sure these things have to be planned out much farther in advance than that.

- And the reason for why tankery was revived is revealed. The school was having financial troubles and tankery is the only big-time revenue generator.
- Back to the match, everybody is freezing and is about to throw in the towel.
- Just when morale is low, that embarrassing dance is back.
- The match continues, and Yukari is out on recon duty while the tanks are dropping like flies.
- Up to the bell tower goes Yukari to find the flag tank.
- And for the deciding blow, Miho's tank comes out from hiding, and the shots are fired at the same time. The winner is...
Another good episode here as it is showing how the girls are able to recover from the fact that the shutdown of their school was right in their faces. But Miho comes through once again with a strategy to fight back. And it all ends with a gamble as the flag tanks fired at each other, but it is yet to be determined who won.

Episode 9:
- I should have figured using sensha-dou to save the school was Anzu's idea.
- Ooarai will never give up, never surrender!
- And fuck yeah Maho stopping mom from leaving.
- Ever since last week I've been expecting their plan would be to blow out the back of the church and escaps that way. Pravda has almost nothing behind. Wonder if that's what they'll do...
- Katyusha has a kind heart. As warm as the Russian tundra. >_>
- Heh, I love Yukari and Erwin's recon song. Not very stealthy though.
- REMAKO!
- Hahahaha oh wow, Miho. She finds the perfect[?] way to cheer everyone up! And of course her loyal wife Yukari is the first one to join her.
- HAHAH the look on Miho's mom's face. XD This is amazing.
- They finally make their move and... well they just charge right in.
- Anzu takes an active role. And she's badass. Student Council tank is awesome!
- Miho standing on the tank looks all sorts of cool. But all I can imagine is Yukari staring up her skirt from below. =D
- Speaking of Yukari, I love how she just dives and rolls out of the tank while it's moving.
- Holy shit this battle is amazing.
- OH FUCK I'd already seen a million people talk about what a cliffhanger this episode is, but wow. That was... wow.

I think my solution is going to be "cancel Chu2koi", but I'm not 100% decided yet. I *will* be buying Garupan. I did place an order for the first few volumes two days ago. It will ship in.... Miho's tank was the one chasing Pravda's flag tank. It was Erwin/Caesar/etc.'s StuG that fired the shot that scored the kill. I don't think that you can really say that it came out of hiding, either; it just fired a shot, and that action was probably what exposed it. ^^ Two more days! until I can watch and not understand it.

Pravda has almost nothing behind. From reading various forums, most people seemed to be expecting something like that, figuring that Pravda had their guns aimed at the front door, with the range dialed in...
- HAHAH the look on Miho's mom's face. XD This is amazing.Hana's mom wasn't exactly happy about it, either. ^^;
- Anzu takes an active role. And she's badass. Student Council tank is awesome! She was their secret weapon, to show that the Student Council tank isn't the useless hunk of metal that all of the opponents' recon teams would have reported it as.
- Holy shit this battle is amazing. It may not have been realistic, but it was awesome.

Well, there isn't much left to cover at Ooarai, other than the new/upgraded tanks and the new club members, so seeing old footage of the girls and hardware from the other schools makes the most sense. The preview showed a still of the Saunders team, didn't it?

- Ooarai wins. It's onto the finals against Miho's former school.
- Another skeleton is dug from the closet, the Porsche Tiger tank operated by the automobile club.
- That tank may be powerful, but it needs lots of maintenance.
- One more tank is obtained, and the nerds operate it.
- Time for some extensive planning. And all of that over some katsu.
- Hana found her own way around flower arranging.
- Time for the championship. But first some goodwill wishes from the opponents she defeated and a hello from the classmate she saved.
- Ooarai is already in trouble, but a zig-zagging tank takes the blow to keep Ooarai in the game.
That was a great episode there seeing how the girls are preparing for the championship match. It was funny seeing how by some dumb luck that one tank was able to sacrifice itself to keep the team afloat. Two more episodes to go, and it will be awhile before I get to watch that. In the meantime, a second recap episode is coming next week.
If I had to speculate what is going to happen in the final two episodes, I think that Ooarai performs well pushing Kuromorimine to the edge, but Ooarai falls just short of victory. Despite the loss, Miho gains the respect of Maho and the two are no longer on bad terms with each other. Even though Ooarai was being threatened to shut down if they did not win the championship, after seeing how well the team performed in the tourney that the school will not be shut down. All this sets up the stage for a second season titled Girls und Panzer Zwei. With the way things are set up, I can certainly see something like that happening.

I wonder how much of a budget Actas had to work with. They are certainly stretching the seiyuu. Sodoko's team are all voiced by the same person.
In Anteater team, only Nekota is credited in the ending and I'm very sure that Momoga is Takahashi Mikako (Yuzu). And I think one of the automobile club members is KitaEri.
Edit : OK, they've updated the official site. The lion team does indeed have KitaEri and also Kanemoto Hisako (Katyusha)
Edit 2 : And the KitaEri character Tsuchiya is probably named after Tsuchiya Keiichi (aka the Drift King). Lots of drift talk from her :) And the others are named after racing drivers

Time for the last (real) episode for quite a while. Damnit, Actas.
Episode 10:
- I thought maybe they'd have both flags go up, one just a second earlier. But having Ooarai's tank barely escape (mostly) intact is better.
- Katyusha isn't crying! Snow is just melting on her face. At least she's a good sport and congratulates Miho.
- Good on Maho, she speaks up on Miho's behalf. And then immediately vows to crush her.
- 20 tanks jeeze.
- Some derpy character animation. Episodes 11-12 better be friggin' immaculate for all the waiting we have in store.
- Ah I like the idea of other clubs pooling their funds for the sensha-dou team. But buying a tank isn't cheap.
- Hahah, their restored tank is a piece of crap. But that's what makes it Ooarai!
- Yay, the (first member of the) final team!
- "Oh there as tank here?" IN THE PARKING LOT. >_>
- The automotive club will be a team in the battle too! hell yes!
- Haha, Nekota is a tank game otaku. She might get along with ukari, if she can take Yukari's loud personality.
- Now for some flower arranging.
- Flowers sprout from tanks, and get some closure on Hana's family situation.
- Oh Momo you're so irritable.
- Saori looks so damn cute in those glasses.
- HELL YEAH MIPORIN! Boyfriend? Why would she care about that, she has a fantastic girl harem all around her! Yukari is soooooo happy. =D
- Katsu katsu katsu. I love seeing everyone taking time to unwind before the final match.
- Mihosha! Miho's international harem comes to wish her luck.
- Goddamn, Maho's second in command is a bitch.
- Awwwwwwwwww, the girl Miho saved came to thank her. <3
- And Yukari sees, and smiles.
Then as the match starts, Maho's team goes all out assault. New team is taken out immediately, but saves everyone in the process through sheer dumb luck.
And jeeze, not where I thought they'd end it. The long, long wait begins. ;_;

-The ammo & judgement flags follow a version of the JSDF's "Butler System." Butler System. *cough*
-Quick review of the others schools they fought. Favorite flowers & teas included.
-Hehehehehe. Anzio High. They get even less time in the recap. Hahahahaha.
-Katyusha (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAmfoWlI-ng)!
-"I say no, but I mean yes." You are a horrible role model dancing goosefish.

Episode 10.5:
- Of course Yukari is the one narrating with her Nishizumi-dono. =D
- Ah, sensha-dou rules. They explicitly say only tanks from 1945 and earlier can be used.
- Rounds must be weak enough to not pierce armor, and all tanks are coated with special armor inside for safety. This says nothing about what happens when they're outside the tanks, but hey, nobody gets hit much. >_>
- That Yukari happy face rubbing thing. ♥
- Ahh, an explanation for why allowing such a disparity in tank forces is allowed.
- You know, is Sanders hadn't been relying on radio intercepts, they totally would have won.
- This also explains why Duck team didn't hit Arisa's tank when they had a perfect shot - it wouldn't have pierced the armor. Interesting.
- That envious look on Yukari's face when Kei hugs Miporin.
- "Ignoring our second match opponents from Anzio High..." Hahah Yukari you're so mean. Poor Anchovy.
- I love all the annotations, obviously by Yukari, about how cute and stylish all the tanks are.
- Katyusha's daily activive: Hanging exercises usin a pull-up bar.
- Nonna's daily activity: A diary on Katyusha. XD
- No Miporin, we will never forget your glorious anglerfish dance. Least of all Yukari. =D
- And the third reason we succeeded was.... Yukari! YUKARI IS IN HER HAPPY PLACE!
Great recap. Getting some insight into what certain things meant in the series was great, but even better was Yukari and Miho getting some alone time. Oh and I loved the ED showing all the teams.

CG tank combat is surprisingly exciting. Though I wish we got to spend some more away from battle time with the other teams. What do the Rabbits & the Hippos do in their free time? What is that one Rabbit staring at? Will grandma be okay!? Poor Mako.
More anime adaptations involving Shimada Fumikane, please!

- Yeah, Miho… She is right, "A victory is a victory!"
- It was all fun…but it definitely looks like Miho has something she needs to talk to her friends about…
- So that was the Miho's tank trauma… Since she went to help someone who was almost drowning, she lost. And with the family she has… lost is even harder to take.
- Yukari is right, you took the right decision.
- Time for practice.
- Many…many…many questions for Miho. Of course, her team will help her.
- Oh, there are more tanks somewhere? Time to search…
- They found a new tank.
- Saori and the first years are lost in the bottom of the ship. Time to send a rescue team.
- Mako’s almost had a heart attack because of Yukari's ringtones.
- The first years love Saori so much!
- Wait, there is a tank there…
- Bath scene!!!
We won’t see the match with Anzio after all… But, I really love episodes like this as well.

- Here is the new team.
- They HAVE to win…
- In the end…they were not able to talk to Miho…
- Really? Miho’s mom wants to disown her daughter… How could she…
- I love snow only in anime and this show gives me more reason to… Snowball fight. And a samurai statue… wow they are good.
- Miho…you need to have your revenge, you need to show them how good you are with your new team.
- They won’t go by Miho’s plan in the end… they prefer to attack all at once.
- It’s time for the match against Pravda… Pravda has 15 tanks…
- Mako sure knows how to deal with snow.
- Two Pravda’s tanks are down.
- They didn’t follow Miho’s orders and they fall into a trap… Arg… They ABSOLUTELY need to follow Miho’s orders ALL the time…
- And Momo lets the secret out… the school will be gone if they lose…

- And this is where the Tankery started.
- Surrender is not an option…definitely not!
- OH WOW! Miho, you definitely know how to cheer your team up!
- And of course they all join the dance.
- Miho said what we already know; they will fight until the end!
- Time to go back to the match.
- “Everyone’s cheering for Ooarai” Who would not?
- And it was amazing… AMAZING… AMAZING!!!
Let’s call this THE cliffhanger…
Damius
01-19-2013, 11:31 PM
- Ooari WINS!!!
- 20 tanks in the final… Really???
- Tank has been restored.
- Well, oops.
- Here is a member of the new team.
- Welll… there is a tank…in the parking lot!
- Welcome in to the automotive club.
- And here is the other members of the last team. Welcome to them too.
- For the best we have flowers in a tank vase!
- She created her own style.
- Chicken time!
- Miho loves all of them… Of course she is, of course.
- We visit all the teams… nice.
- Mako sleeps standing up. She should join Kumin’s club.
- Ugh… Maho's second in command… I don’t like her at all…
- Awwww… The girl Miho’s saved came to thank her!
- One tank down…
The match starts and the long wait begins… ;_;

I'm happy to see confirmation that they're coming soon, and when that'll happen. ^^ I'm a little sad that they're not airing in a one-hour block, but I'll manage. I think... ;p I might be slightly behind in watching #11, but not by much, since I return from my trip to see the 12 Hours of Sebring on the 18th. ^^

Well, from something's list of best-selling anime since 2000, the only single cour shows above it that didn't get a 2nd season are Angel Beats, Infinite Stratos and AnoHana. Two of those shows had quite definite endings so a sequel would be hard to do, and IS would have gotten a sequel by now if not for a rumoured dispute between the author and the publisher.
Unless Bandai Visual doesn't want money, a sequel is inevitable

Both would sure be the best. A movie for GirlPan would inevitably be amazing. It's a show that would work quite well with a movie. After, that the second season! But this time the second season need to on time, no break.

I wonder if they've realized that getting fans together in a single place to watch anime provides more merchandizing revenue or something like that. Though I wonder if it's more cost effective than having live events.
Back to Girls und Panzer, the merchandizing should be a major money-maker. The tank models are not cheap and some of the tanks that Ooarai have are rare enough that even non-anime collectors might buy them. The Porsche Tiger model's preorder was sold out within 24 hours.

Miho jumping across the tanks was simultaneously awkward and awesome.
They were doing pretty good there for a while. Can't wait to see how they pull out a win. I'm not sure they can actually do anything about the Maus. Only real solution I can see is find a way to get it stuck, such as toppling a building on top of it or something. Otherwise, it will just come down to the usual situation: taking out the enemy flag tank as soon as possible.

I'm not gonna spoil the outcome of the match but I have to say that that was the most ridiculously awesome episode I've watched in a while. The 3-month long wait for the last 2 episodes were an agony but it looks like they made full use of it as the whole episode was full of incredible action.
Very rare does an anime actually exceed expectations in the final episode but that's what Garupan did. Maybe we'll see some rise in the already impressive BD sales. Ok, so there were some questionable physics but if you can believe in city-sized aircraft carriers then you'll have no problems with some of the scenes such as fencing tank turrets :)

Yup. The only comparable episodes from recent seasons are Madoka's episode 10 and Idolmaster's episode 20. And neither of those were final episodes, and they were great for different reasons. Nothing comes to mind that is such a great mix of action, comedy and drama.
I'm trying hard to think of a more uplifting ending for a TV series. Perhaps Clannad After Story...

Short of Team Usagi and/or Team Seitokaichou taking out half of Black Forest's tanks on their own, that was everything I could have hoped for.
The plan to take out the Maus was as impressive as it was amusing, then Team Usagi took out the two most dangerous tanks on their own and engaged in TANK JOUSTING.
Then we got a great duel between the Nishizumi sisters at the end.
And now its over. Sequel when!? ;_;

Two episodes in a row, PANZER VOR!
Episode 11:
- Boy it took that shell a long-ass time to hit that tank. It was fired months ago!
- Haha, Katyusha is getting all excited up on Nonna's shoulders. So cute.
- Orange Pekoe too. Everyone has become is such Ooarai fangirls. <3
- Fuck yeah Anzu, taking out two.
- And there go two more. Ooarai is starting to even the odds (...sort of) but they'll likely start losing tanks soon.
- HAHHAH student council tank is best tank. They just roll right up between all the Kuromorimine tanks and confuse the shit out of them.
- The execution of every scene of this battle is phenomenal. And haha automotive club fixing thr tank in mid drive.
- Time to cross a river. Will this end well? Not for Usagi-san team. This is likely where things start going badly for Ooarai.
- Or we could juat have Miho being a total badass. Who can do Olympic-class jumps like it's nothing.
- Goddamn that was awesome. Glad they all got across.
- Bwhahaha automotive club tkes out the bridge with some tank afterburners wtf.
- Uh, holy shit, that is a big tank.
- Sadoko's tank gets flipped right over. Poor Sadoko.
- Uh oh, cosplay team too. Odds are getting decidedly worse.
On to episode 12!

Episode 12:
- God damn that Maus is like cheating. Nothing can scratch it.
- Ahahaha fuuuuuck, student council team gets all the best scenes. Way to just RAM the Maus.
- The Maus is dead! I just wonder what kind of shape Anzu's tank is in now... barrel might be busted.
- NOOOOO KAME-SAN TEAM IS DOWN. ;_; Everyone would be so dead already without them. Your sacrifice will not be in vain. ::salutes::
- Hahah I love the six-way cutout for Usagi-san team. Everyone looks intense excerpt space cadet Saki.
- AND SHE SPOKE! Yaaaaaay Saki!
- AHAHAH Usagi-san team's dance with the tank in the narrow alley is fucking incredible.
- And they go out in a blaze of glory, taking the Jagd with them. ::salutes again::
- Oh fuck, niiiiiiiiice plan. Miho gets her one on one battle!
- Fffffffff holy shit, dodging shots by inches. I'm glad Miho got back into the tank for that. :sd:
- Even as a corpse the Tiger does its duty.
- And we get ready for the final shot...
HOLY FUCK THAT WAS AWESOME
- Awwwwww, Anzu and the third years thanking Miho. <3
- Hahah, Sodoko is able to get Mako emotional, with the one thing she cares about most.
- A smile and congratulations from Maho. Few things in the world could mean more to Miho.
- Even mom claps.
- And the victory parade!
And that episode was absolute perfection without one single flaw whatsoever.
It's always incredible when a team is capable of making such an utterly heinous wait worth it. This show deserves every ounce of the spectacular success it's seen.

- The next tactic, the Oarai girls are using smokescreen. They have turned into tank ninjas.
- Up the hill they go, and they are using the high ground to their advantage.
- To the river they go, cutting right through the holes in the formation. Their tanks can withstand a little bit of water.
- Uh, oh! The rabbit team is stalled, and memories of last year re-emerge.
- This time, it's a total team effort to drag the tank out of the stream, and just in the nick of time.
- Into town they go, and the bridge is blown to bits. That will stall the enemy.
- And the girls encounter the juggernaut tank Maus. It takes out the duck and hippo teams on their own.
- Things are looking really bad now. Not only in numbers, but the opponent's indestructible trump card.
Great episode here as the Oarai girls are handling themselves quite well after that rough start to the match. But then the Maus tank comes in and totally changes the game. As if the disadvantage in numbers were not enough, they are up against a tank that could easily take out the rest of the tanks on its own. But the objective has always been to take out the commander's tank, and with that many tanks to get through, they are facing long odds.

- Here's the plan. The Student Council will be sacrificial lambs by ramming the Maus, while .
- And Miho's plan works. The Maus may be indestructible, but not when it's a sitting duck. But the student council tank is pays the price.
- The rabbits are being chased through the alley. The rabbits are rammed over, but the rammer ran straight into the dried-up river.
- It's a one-on-one battle between commanders as they are in a courtyard with the Leopon team blocking the way. The other tanks are down and out.
- It has all come down to this. The final shot of the tournament has been fired. And the winner is...
- Miho and Oarai for the win! Oarai is the champion, and the school lives on.
- Miho has found her tankery. A style different from her family, and Maho acknowledges it.
- One last time, Panzer Vor! And they hold a victory parade on the ship.
Great way to end the series and it certainly was a great to see the girls pull off the upset considering that they were not only outnumbered, but up against a juggernaut that could have easily wiped out the whole team by itself. Of course, these girls have that never say die attitude and it set up Miho for a one-on-one duel with her older sister to decide the match.
Overall, this show is a ton of fun, and certainly I came in thinking that there was going to be a lot of distracting stuff that was seen in Strike Witches. But the show focuses on tanks, relationships, friendships, and community as this show felt much closer to Angelic Layer than it did Strike Witches. While there is a possibility for another season since the show is popular in Japan, but it's not necessary with the Oarai girls having won the championship trophy.

I finally get around to watching the rest of this show...
...and this episode was just perfect in every way.
Final Thoughts
It really is too bad that one of the best shows of Fall 2012 (alongside Hidamari Sketch and Sakurasou) took this long to actually properly show us all it was capable of.
This show succeeded in two ways. First of all, the show did a great job with the girls and their relationships with each other, and otherwise giving us a nice large cast that is interesting enough to care about. We get some nice slice-of-life moments interspersed with all the tank battles to really help shape this part of the show.
So the show already succeeds with the girls, but what about the panzer? Well, this show blows that part out of the water! The action parts of this show are absolutely phenomenal; the tank battles are very creative in their settings and how they play out, and they're just really exciting overall. Add in some fun informative aspects about the tanks themselves, and you have an absolutely amazing show; right now I'd consider it my favorite show from an action perspective (and I'm not a huge action person, so that's saying quite a bit).
Final Score: 10.7/11.0 - A masterpiece of an action show.

Hmm... ANN has an article (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-04-28/girls-and-panzer-anime-gets-2014-film-new-ova-fan-disk) up that says that we can expect a GuP movie next year, and an OVA that fills in the details about what we missed from the significantly-abbreviated Anzio fight.
I was hoping for another TV series, but this is good, too. I wonder what they can do for the tank rendering with an even bigger budget. ^^
