That was a pretty good start. The new enemy MotW are still goofy, but that's fine. Anyway, the episode was a little slow in terms of setting up the story, but it's a nice change of pace. Can't wait to see where they go with it next week.

Ahahaha, Arisu's first reaction to seeing the Selfish was to take it home and keep it as a pet. And Mana scolds its.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. Easily the best first episode I've yet seen in a Precure series.
Mana is such a great lead. I can't believe we have a student council president as a main character. And nothing surprises her? Giant monster grab? Talking animals? Pfft, whatever.
This show resembles Heartcatch much more than Smile and Suite, in that the monsters come from a single person rather than incapacitating a group of people. Though I think Heartcatch still used an object to make the monster. And like Heartcatch, the monsters talk rather than just say Akanbeeeee or whatever over and over again like Pokemon. Oh, and the villains seem pretty decent so far. Seemingly moderately competent and not annoyingly goofy or screechy or otherwise obnoxious.
Mana is great, though I suspect Rikka will end up being my favorite. Already Pixiv'd a bunch of art of her a week or two ago and really liked what I saw of her hear. Arisu was quite fun from what we saw of her here too.
I particularly liked Arisu's voice. She's voiced by Fuchigami Mai who, uh.... hasn't done much, but she was Miho in Girls und Panzer. Makoto's seiyuu is Miyamoto Kanako who also hasn't done much but interestingly, she played *herself* in Precure Yes! 5. Then Rikka is Kotobuki Minako and Mana is Nabatame Hitomi.
Anyway, off to a great start, can't wait for next week's episode. I can only hope the rest of the show lives up the hopes and expectations this episode has set.

I don't know how to take an actually competent Pink Precure. It feels like some sort of natural order of the universe is being disrupted.
Anyway, really good episode, with some pretty amusing stuff in it.
And holy shit that ED animation. Way to make Love Live and AKB0048 look like chumps.

-EXPLOSION! Little girl is beating up King Kong. What is going on here?
-Squids have flattened the Ravens. Ika-musume wins the Superb Owl!
-Night on Bald Mountain begins to play. Or the overly cheerful OP starts.
-Why does one of the cute magical animal mascots look like a fat baby?
-Her name is "I the Mama"?
-Mana is too perfect. She is the impossible class president.
-"The dark heart of selfishness is coming to Japan!" Too late little critters I think it's already there.
-A Selfish Shellfish... Precure just created a translingual punbeast.
-Kitty, bunny, puppy, mousey and fat fat baby.
-"Please use my cellphone power." Oooooookay.
-RAIDAH ONE HENSHIN!
-Mammo is a cross between Maetel (http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/317864/) & Fish Eye (http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/1269524/)?
-I still can't fathom why Precure can manage to make fantastic looking CG of characters actually look like people, not unholy abominations and no one else can.
Well that was fun. I've seen enough Precure for 2013 now.

Mana Aida is different from the main Precure we had in the past seasons.
We had Precure Student Council President in the past (Itsuki Myoudouin and Reika Aoki), but this is the first time a Student Council President is the "main" leader.
Mana is an outgoing, helpful and social person. She is very adaptive person as well.
Mana is able to handle several student crisis at once, she didn't bat an eye when fairies show up. She even ended up lecturing a crab monster!
Don't know about Rikka Hishikawa yet other than she is a good friend of Mana.
Arisu Yotsuba is the little rich girl. Instead of acting all spoiled, she is polite, and have little airhead personality.
Cure Sword - I wonder if she will be regretful type because she didn't save her kingdom?
So the theme of this series is selfishness - the weekly monsters seen to be more of annoyance than a major threat to the human population. We get two villains to show up instead of one.
The transformation sequence is little on the bland side.
I will watch episode 2 to see what happens next.

With the talk of Cure Blade being the final precure which indicates there were other ones, I wonder who those other ones were. In any case, life must really suck for Cure Blade.
Mana is just wow. I'm waiting for there to be some sort of catch with her character. Whatever that may be.
Alice is wonderful as her name indicates. Ie the full name Yotsuba Alice.
Hopefully we can have all four of them gathered by the third episode. I mean we already got two Cures in a single episode.

Episode 1:
- Man purple looks pretty badass. And the enemy them is animals this time I see.
- So one of the girls is already a Precure. Surprised me at first, but I guess that's not so rare. Smile didn't do it but Suite kinda did and so did Heartcatch. This is the first of the four I've watched where it was one of the core group though.
- Yesssssss, Kotobuki Minako Precure.
- Heh for a second I thought Mana was going to run up the stairs as quickly as the crab thing ran up the elevator shaft. That would have been silly.
- Hahahah, Mana is scolding the angry crab. :sd:
- ...Nothing fazes her.
- Henshin fail!
- Henshin success! The sequence is okay I guess, but nothing special. Amusing how she looks absolutely nothing like her normal form once transformed though.
And a cliffhanger.

Yes, there is one case.
Nishimura Chinami voiced Dark Dream in the movie (technically she was Precure) and later Cure Beauty in Smile.

Just a heads up DalekB, please make sure when you post about an episode you're in the subthread for that ep, so for ep 2, reply to another ep 2 post like Hitokiri's). I've moved the parts about ep 2 into a reply here.
And DokiDoki... when I saw Rikka in that lab during the preview I was awww all the way. But Rikka/Mana's relationship feels similar to Black/White for me.
Nice to see some normal, even ordinary girls taking up the task and doing what needs to be done. OK Mana has some traits of happy-idiot Precure like Peach or Dream but I don't mind.
Also thanks for the information about the seiyuu re-use. So a sort of tangential re-use but no core group Precure re-use yet. Well I suppose with so many seiyuu to pick from there's no need to re-use.

Alice brings Mana and Rikka to her mansion to reveal that she knows that about the Precure.
She has camera footage of Mana transforming at the tower and was able to find Lance wondering around the streets.
We had upper-class Precures before like Reika and Itsuki, but this is the first time a Precure that is able to use her rich resources in a battle.
Alice has a butler that can drive her to a fight and she has an information network that shames some government spy agencies.
Alice has a martial arts background like Itsuki but to a lesser degree because she doesn't train as much.
Cure Rosetta has defense power like Cure Sunshine and Cure Mint.
The monsters of the week is nothing to write about - very weak in power.
At the end of the episode Alice reveals she knows who Cure Sword is.

Has a group of Precure's ever had the sort of resources that Alice brings to the table? It should make an interesting difference from prior series. Not to mention the blonde guy that hands out the amulets. He strikes me as having it together a little more than others (lookin' at you Coco and Nutsu).
I also like that part of the premise is that a group of Precures failed and their world was destroyed. That gives the lone survivor a lot of feelings to deal with. Also, the bad guys have a reason for feeling confident beyond, "Well, we're badass." They actually succeeded in defeating a world's guardians and destroying it.
No wonder Alice felt she could adopt a giant crab. It's not that she is too much of an airhead to realize the implications. It's because she knows she can kick its ass if it misbehaves!

So the girls go and meet MakoPi to find out if she is Cure Sword or not.
Since Alice's father owes the TV studio Makoto rehearse in, they just walk onto the set.
(It's nice being this rich, isn't it?)
Mana burst into Makoto's dressing room and lays it all out being a Precure.
This is a personality flaw with Mana - she has a habit of doing things without thinking things through.
Makoto gets upset and tells her to leave. Rikka chides Mana for her reckless actions, but the girls was able to meet up with Makoto 's manager.
On the other side of the fence, the bad guys are starting to worry the new appearance of a Precure from the last episode. The Precures seem to multiple in numbers. I guess we should not tell the bad guys about the DX movies with an army of Precures from previous seasons.
Marmo goes off and summons the monster of the week - a large star!
Mana, Rikka and Alice transforms, but the star proves too much for them. Cure Sword shows up, easily defeats the star and disappears.
Back at home/restaurant Mana receives a letter from Makoto's manager - DB.
Mana meets up with Makoto at a fan meeting. Mana apologizes for her earlier actions and gives Makoto free food from Mana's restaurant.
I got a feeling that Makoto's manager is Dabyi.

Next episode we see that Makoto cooks at Mana's restaurant.

Oh yeah this is a show I was supposed to be watching.
Episode 2:
Uh wow I'm pretty surprised anyone commented on the world fixing itself. Of course they promptly drop the subject three seconds later.
And lol Rikka's delayed reaction to Mana's transformation. lol again at Rikka sneaing up to push the button. And thirdly lol at Rikka switching to calling Mana "Cure Heart" in the middle of the fight, as if there was any point in hiding the identity.
I think I could watch this season just to get one scene per episode where Rikka puts her glasses on.
something
03-09-2013, 09:11 PM
Episode 3:
- Hahaha Rikka trying to science the children's toy bait. And coming up with conclusions she could not possibly under any circumstances have been able to reach based on the lack of evidence. Exposition!
- Jeeze Mana sure got over that "I don't want to involve my friends!" thing. She and the blue thing are going all "HEY HEY LITTLE GIRL, FORM A CONTRACT WITH ME AND BECOME A MAGICAL GIRL" on her.
- New baddie. I swore I'd heard the guy (Yamaji Kazuhiro) in a million roles but he has surprisingly few roles for an older male seiyuu. Usually anime just recycles a handful of them into dozens and dozens of roles (and for the most part they have great voices so I don't mind). I guess he just reminds me of someone else.
- Hahah, Rikka is very protective of her woman when a strange man appears.
- Uh yeah so the "crisis" tat caused Rikka to transform was really stupid even by kids' show standards but whatever RIKKA FUCK YEAH.
- Henshin scenes are still kinda mediocre though.
Rikka is definitely the best character, though Alice is a dark horse candidate.
something
03-09-2013, 09:35 PM
Episode 4:
- HAHAHA I think they would have to be the first magical girls outed by a security camera. And oh god their faces when Alice shows it to them.
- She'll be their producer. >_> Alice P-san!
- Jeeze I think Alice could handle the baddies without even becoming a Precure.
- "Let's transform!" ::Alice is busy drinking tea:: Alice is awesome. Maybe Rikka does have competition.
- So Alice's main role is information manipulation. Handy.
- And she's also a total martial arts badass. So strong that she refuses to fight, for fear of letting her powrs go out of control. :sd:
- Butler dude is pretty cool.
- And Alice is aweeeeeeesome~
So now I'm not sure if I like Rikka or Alice better. I think they're close because Alice's episode was just so much better. There was actually some semblance of a backstory for her, superficial though it may be. But I still think Rikka is probably my favorite. That devotion to her Mana~ Those glasses~

Episode 5:
- They've identified a Precure using DNA testing and forensic analysis. WHAT SHOW AM I WATCHING.
- "I'm sure Mana has a plan." Uhh, it's nice you have faith in her I guess.
- It's nice that Makopi is really passionate about her idol role and all. I rather expected her to be a "jaded celebrity" type.
- Fights and stuff. Makopi continues to play hard to get. But the befriending is only a matter of time.
Makopi's Miyamoto Kanako reminds me of, say, when Kugimiya Rie lowers the pitch of her voice and talks more quietly/calmly.

Mana is the best lead Cure. (http://twitpic.com/cc210j) Loved her laugh there so much.
It's also so weird having a decently competent villain, even if he did get defeated here. He was at least smart enough to come and make sure the job got finished and he mainly suffered from overconfidence and got surprised by their teamwork, misjudging their abilities. Of course, now he might never fight them head on again for another 15-20 episodes.

MakoPi takes some time to do a promotional shoot at Mana's restaurant.
Much to the horror to Mana's family, Makoto cannot cook at all!
Makoto returns later on to spend more than with Mana and friends on cooking - which brings the team closer together.
On the second day of shooting, Makoto does much better at cooking and creates a huge omelet.
One of the camera man carving for the omelet, gets his heart turn into a large pig monster!
You can rely on Sebastian to get the adults out of the restaurant allowing the girls to transform.
The pig monster is very hungry and is eating Mana out of house and restaurant. The pig gets larger and larger but the Precure cannot do anything about it.
Makoto jumps into action and transforms.
DB reveals on what we expected she is Makoto's fairy.
Cure Sword easily finishes off the fight and the girls are ready to introduce her to the team.
Bel appears and easily sends off the Precure away without breaking a sweat - proving he is the most powerful of the sub-bosses.

The girls and fairies are separated and arrive in Makoto's homeland - Trump Kingdom.
We have the background established. Makoto tells her story on how her world was destroyed by the Selfish army. All the people were turned into monsters like we saw in the first episode.
Like in Smile, the final boss is dominant and the sub-bosses are gathering bad energy to resurrect him.
We have a fighting Princess!
Makoto finally accepts the girls' friendship and become part of the team.
----------We get a new eye catch!
The girls arrive at the castle but Pell is already there.
Bel destroys the mirror - only way to get back home and Makoto feels devastated.
Bel lets out an evil laugh, but Mana laughs back at him!
Mana is so cocky and bold - I am starting to warm up to her!
Mana challenges Bel and tells him they will make him take them back home.
It is refreshing to see a main Precure that deserves to be leader of a team.
If you look back all the main Precures, they lacked leadership skills.
Hearcatch - Hanasaki Tsubomi: Shy and introvert
Suite - Hojo Hibiki: Independent, but gets into fights with her friend
Smile - Hoshizora Miyuki - Don't ask, she is a complete flake!
Like shown in the first episode with the class conflicts, Mana can handle stress and pressure. She is able to make decisions and resolve issues quickly.
---------------
The fairies show up - dropping a chandelier on Bel!
The girls transforms and have difficulty fighting Bel individually.
We finally got a group transformation speech!
They decided to team up and were able to beat up Bel.
Cure Rosette notice that part of the mirror is still working and the girls make an escape home.
The girls make a promise to help Makoto to fight the Selfish army and revive her kingdom.
------------------
Next episode we get a baby!
I got a feeling the baby is Princess Marie Ange.
