As an incurable collector, I am attracted to Limited Edition items, exclusive sets with bonus content, and other bright shiny things! /images/graemlins/noseblee.gif
I was curious to see what manga graphic novels have been released in the USA with these. So far, the ones I know of are:

There are a couple of mail-in offers for empty boxes of various Viz titles, so far, there are offers for boxes in Dragon Ball 1-7 (holds 1-7, expired), Dragon Ball 8-11 (holds 8-16, expired) Dragon Ball Z 1-7 (holds 1-8, expired,) and Dragon Ball Z 9-11 (holds 9-16, expired.)

There is also a mail-in for One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh, if you buy vol. 1? of both, you can send off for a double-sided poster.

There is a Platinum Series box set from Shonen Jump, with vol. 1 of 7 different titles, DB, DBZ, One Piece, Yu-gi-Oh, Shaman King, YYH and Naruto. It is called the Shonen Jump Graphic Novel Vol 1 POWER PACK, and is a LE silver foil display box for about 40 bucks.

If you know of any other titles with color pages, dust jackets, etc., please post them. MAny of the newer ADV titles have had color pages, as have the Broccoli Books Deluxe titles. I discovered that some of the older Comics One titles had dust jackets (such as Sarai, which is the only one I have seen.)

As far as I can tell, the titles with color pages are limited, I know for a fact that several of the Tokyopop titles have shown up without color pages in later printings (CCS Master of the Clow, Wish, etc.)

Edit by Kiril: Finally got around to changing the subject line for this. Use this thread to report all LE items, box sets, things of that nature.

Addition:
Wish vol 1(+?) dustjackets

Wow aren't you also doing the anime LE list? damn you sure a LE nut /images/graemlins/tongue.gif I don't think there's been that much LE stuff for manga yet but I have a hunch that it will change soon, like it did with anime.

Clamp School Defenders- Dukylon vol 1 has a colour poster as well.
.Hack//Legend of the Twilight (Bracelet) vol 1 has a color page or two in the front, I think
and Shirahime-Syo will have a hardcover edition when it comes out.
other than that...I think you have most of 'em here ^^

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't! Almond Joy's got... ummm, err, never mind! /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif I have been up for 36 hours (downloading fansubs, unlicensed of course,) and having an anime marathon with a friend who works a night shift...)

At least this list is a lot smaller than the Anime LE list, and much easier to update. /images/graemlins/relief1.gif

Just a heads up, I added the Initial D box set to the list, I saw it in the ad from Radio Shack, and it looks like it is a box of the first 3 volumes for $19.99, exclusive to Radio Shack. On a side note, they also have some Initial D mini-RC racers, that also appear to be exclusive.

Real Bout High School and Saint Tail both had a set with the first volume of the manga with the DVD, or vice versa. Depends on how you look at it I guess.

I'm not sure whether this was a Pioneer exclusive, but Sailor Moon S DVD #6 had a special where it came with a Sailor Moon manga. I forgot which number, but it's the pink cover with Super Sailor Moon on it solo.

It was a Suncoast video exclusive, and it was volume 10. (Red colored cover.)

When Mixx originally released Sailor Moon as a comic book, issue #1 had a special San Diego Comic Con version, with a pink cover, and a silver gloss moon and star on it.

Has anyone heard about this "Platinum Collection" or whatever it is from Shonen Jump? It is a boxed set, that includes the first? volumes of all the manga they have put out, and is supposed to retail for around 40 dollars (or so my friend told me, anyway.)

Can someone give me more information about the Cowboy Bebop box set from Suncoast? Is it exclusive to Suncoast, and what does it contain? Unfortunately, my Suncoasts are out of it, and I don't know if they will get more.

I have seen a new box set that includes the 3 manga and the 2 Shooting Star manga, available at Amazon and Right Stuf.

I have added quite a bit of information to the list.

I still need information on the Suncoast Exlusive Cowboy Bebop box set, specifically, what titles were in it, and what the extra book was. If anyone could help me out, I would be grateful.

Aahh, thanks... Is that the Cowboy Bebop Anime Guide that is available separately? It looks like they have 6 volumes of it, for 12.95 each. I guess I don't have to feel bad about not being able to snag a copy (first 3 mangas, + Anime Guide for $30?, vs. all 5 mangas for $40.)

Another one with L.E items is the Ragnarok boxset with volumes 1 to
3 in it - it comes with 3 nice decals, one of Iris Irene, one of Chaos
and one of Loki as I recall too *haven't got boxset here right now
as I was reading earlier *^^* *.

I have to say as well - Tokyopop did a great job of the box - it's
a very very sturdy cardboard box.

My only real question is - have Tokyopop planned to release volumes
4-6 in a similar wonderful fashion yet?

Anything that's a box set like this I consider as a "special edition" of some sort or another and should include it here. (The box itself is an extra that some people will want and others won't care about.) Trying to figure out the actual availability of the item is sort of secondary.

Ah, cool. We learned a bit ago they were planning on going back to redo the early volumes right-to-left, but making it a box is new info. As I missed the early volumes and jumped on at the "Change of Heart" switch, I've been waiting for the rereleases, and getting a set of the first four for $29.99 MSRP is a good deal, even better once I work in the discounts I can get. I hope they will do a second set for volumes 5-8; it makes sense to do so.

I was hoping someone could answer my questions about the status of the color pages in these series (incidentally all CLAMP/Tokyopop titles):

Chobits - only my Vol. 8 has color pages - Were any of the other books printed with color pages? Was vol. 8's limited?

Angelic Layer - yes I realize it's in the list, but did Vol. 1 have them as well as the others (it's the only one of mine that doesn't)

Wish - were Vol. 1's color pages limited? Were 2-4 available with it also? (if so, then obviously they were limited as mine don't have them)

To my knowledge, Chobits 8 was the only one released with color pages. I would guess that they're limited to the first few printing (if not just the first) but I don't know for certain.

I can't help with Angelic Layer, I'm not into that series (yet).

I have no earthly idea for Ceres... I thought I had seen something in this forum about slipcovers for them, but it possibly could have been something to do with the DVDs.

What DID they do with Fruits Basket? I haven't picked them up yet.

I added the Gravitation posters. Were they color, and were they fold-out (like Clamp School) or were they removeable? Did volumes 1-3 have anything?

I have made a fairly large update to the list, many of the titles with color pages are in my collection, although I don't have all volumes of most of the series.

Does anyone have any new information on the Love Hina box set 1, or the Clover box set? I have heard the Clover set is NOT coming out, although Listerx.com has a pic of it listed in their manga section...

About the Gravitation posters, they are in color and they started with Vol.4. About being like Clamp School's, they are vertical unlike the Clamp's. I guess it is removeable, but don't quote me on it.

About Fruits Basket, they did the same thing as Ai Yori Aoshi, with color cover backs, the back side of the front and back cover.

I am not sure on other publishers, but I have seen several Tokyopop titles where the later printings did NOT have the color pages, for instance, Cardcaptor Sakura: Master of the Clow, Wish, etc.

It would be best to assume that all color pages, or other items mentioned in the list, are first printing/limited supply only, unless otherwise informed on a specific item.

[/ QUOTE ]

That doesn't sound promising. Is there any way to determine if a particular copy is from the first printing without opening it? All of stores in my area display their graphic novels sealed. /images/graemlins/depresse.gif

That sucks. I don't think there is anyway to tell if a book is a first printing or not, without opening it.

There was an image up on some retailer site IIRC, doesn't mean anything. Just that they got some art from TP. The listing has been removed from Amazon, though BN.com is still listing it, but they've also still got the Feb '04 release date. I remember Jake mentioning it had been canceled, though they are planning to do a separate re-release at some point. I am not going forum diving to try and find the thread though.

If you look very closely at the edge of the pages, you might be able to spot a color difference. Test it on some manga that you own with color pages. Other than that, you would need to buy them when they come out, see if the stores will let you open them before purchase, or see if an online store could check before you ordered from them.

No, it would not. Unless it were something like Tokyopop's limited hardbacks.

Does anyone know for a fact if Angelic Layer vol. 1 had color pages? I found a second printing at Waldenbooks that was missing the color pages, although a second printing of vol. 2 included them.

The whole dilemma of not getting the color pages is REALLY getting me down. The stores around here with their sealed books are really not conducive to collecting. I'm so discouraged that I'm beginning to rethink this hobby... /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

I just found out that a copy of Angelic Layer vol. 1 with the color pages is nowhere to be found in Oklahoma City. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

Also, it looks like that the CCS: Master of the Clow volumes with the cards are getting harder to find, as well. *IF* there is going to be a box set, I am starting to wonder if they would include the color pages/cards...

I just made a bit of an update, although I noticed quite a bit of new Tokyopop and ADV titles with color pages, which I haven't added yet. I am going to have to camp out in the manga section and try to write down all of the titles.

I went to Waldenbooks and wrote down all titles with color pages that I could find, and made a large update to the list.

Does ANYONE have a copy of Gatekeepers #1 w/ color pages? I looked at several copies that appeared to be the first print runs, and none of them had color pages, while the vol. 2s that I found did have color pages. Did Tokyopop just start in the middle of the series on this one? have they done that with other titles? I know they added posters to vols. 4-5 of Gravitation, a bookmark to vol. 4 of Rave Master, and trading cards for the CCG to Initial D vols. 4+.

Also, has anyone noticed any cover enhancements that have disappeared with reprints? Rave Master had embossed covers starting with vol. 6 (I think,) but today I found a copy of vol. 8 with a smooth cover. I wonder if they just stopped embossing the covers, or what.

No color pages in mine, and it also appears to be 1st printing. I know I've had it for a long time, but not whether I purchased it at its release date.

Well, I can attest from personal experience that my copy of Gravitation vol. 6 comes w/o a poster insert. I was interested to know if there has been any word of a GTO boxset from tokyopop. The series is so large that I was hoping to save some money by buying them together. I assume it wouldn't be a ton of money, but any is better than none.

It is good to see after reading through this thread that there will be a love hina boxset. Though the price listed at amazon seemed rather cheap making me assume it is either broken up or just a box and a few volumes, etc...

Thanks for your time.

I haven't heard of a GTO box yet. Speculation on the forum is leaning towards the Love Hina box just being a couple of volumes.

Tokyopop seems to remove the color pages on later printings, so I would always assume that the first printing is the only way to get them.

I updated the list quite a bit, although I listed an exclusive Barnes & Noble version of Rahxephon vol. 2, and I don't know what is exclusive about it. If anyone is aware of this, please let me know.

Also, as a heads up, Borders and Waldenbooks have an exclusive Inu Yasha Demon Box Set (vol. 19) w/ demon figure. In the Region 1 Anime forum, the consensus is that this is only a box big enough to hold the book and figure, instead of a box for the series. The figure appears to be a repaint of the Toynami figure.

I have noticed a few series where book 1 will have color pages, and later books may not. One reason may be that they are still in the same story arc, and the manga-ka only did color pages for each arc. Remote vol. 2, Planetes vol. 3, and Tsubasa vol. 2 are all this way. If you come across any others, please post.

I don't *THINK* it does, but I haven't picked it up yet. It could be that I got mixed up, or I found a copy in the store that was already a second printing, although its awfully soon for a new printing on a book that came out in June.
