Eh, just a few to add in for the moment (I'll think of some more later if I can... /images/graemlins/wink.gif)
Tenchi Muyo GXP OP: "The Midnight Sun" - ?
Tenchi Muyo GXP ED: "You're the Worst" - ?
Tenchi Universe karaoke songs (Mihoshi, Kiyone, Ayeka, Ryoko, Washu) - respectively, Ellen Gerstell, Sherry Lynn, Jennifer Darling, Petrea Burchard? (not sure if she sang it or not, I think she mentioned replacing a song before in an interview, but I'll have to check again...), K.T. Vogt
Outlaw Star (ep. 21 and 25) : Hiru no Tsuki - Emily Brown
Magic User's Club OVA ep.5 next-ep preview: Senobi wo Shite Follow You - Misty Daniels? (pretty sure it's her...)
EDIT: Got Outlaw Star eps. wrong. She sings it in a scene in ep. 21, and also in the prologue for ep. 25.

Phantom Quest Corp "Blue Devil Blues" (OP) (no credits were given)
Phantom Quest Corp "Dancin' With A Demon" (END) (no credits were given)
Moldiver "Time Limit" (no credits were given) (END)
Moldiver "Go!Go!Moldiver" (likewise for this one) (OP)
The Wanderers: El Hazard "Clever" - Mellissa Fahn (END)
The Wanderers: El Hazard "Illusion" - Shane August (OP)
Those are some of my favorites, especially the Wanderers and Moldiver songs! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
On a side note, and I really hate to say this, but I really would'nt call the dub song for Blue Seed ep 8 a real song to begin with. Its funny, I'll give it that, but it does'nt do the original justice like all of these other great songs do! Just my two cents. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

The Moldiver songs have credits in the database (http://www.crystalacids.com/database/series/moldiver.html), so you can check there to see which ones are OP/ED and who sang each of them.

More songs to add in the list:
Azumanga Daioh Ep. 1: "Tsukurimashou!" - Jessica Boone (confirmed by one of the trailers for the dub)
El Hazard OVA ED: "Boys Be Free/Back In Love" - ? (It's the same girl who does Ed in Cowboy Bebop)
Fruits Basket Ep. 12: Momiji's Song - ? (still trying to finding Momiji's English seiyuu) and Laura Bailey
Perfect Blue: "Ai No Tenshi" - ? (although Ruby Marlowe, the voice of Mima in the film, is very likely one of the singers)
Yuu Yuu Hakusho OP: "Smile Bomb" - ?

Here's some more song additions/correction
Tenchi Muyo OVA Ep. 8: "Washu's Lullaby" - Scottie Haskell
Tenchi Universe Ep. 13: "Forevermore" - Diane Michelle
Tenchi Universe Ep. 26: "Dimension of Love" - Diane Michelle
Sailor Moon (S) Ep. 102: "Ai no Senshi" - ?
Sailor Moon (SuperS) Ep. 158 & 159: "Watashitachi ni Naritakute" - ?
Sailor Moon (SuperS) Ep. 161: "Sailor Team no Theme" - ?
Trigun Ep. 8 (maybe some more, not sure...): "Sound Life" - Emily Brown
As a note on the CWI-dubbed songs for Sailor Moon, the one in S (Ai no Senshi) was left undubbed on the English track of the DVD (but was dubbed in the edited dub shown on CN). The SuperS ones, however, are on the English track of the DVD.
Also, made a correction on Outlaw Star in my original post (should be ep. 21, and ep. 25 prologue for Melfina's song)

Heh, Doco is name of the collective of Ranma voice actors for performing songs. Doco USA I believe is the group of English VAs, who performed a couple of OVA songs. Red Shoe Sunday is the name of the ED. Sorry I wasn't clear and can't be more specific.

Funny you should ask. I'm not sure, but I think when it was released originally on VHS in the US, they used it as a kind of universal ED, but the Japanese OVAs and the US DVDs both have their ED for each episode. Or something like that.

Virtua Fighter OP: "Akira's Song" - Scott Bailey, Pamela Weidner, Amy Tipton
Virtua Fighter ED: "Pai's Song" - Leigh Jones
Ranma 1/2 OVA OP #1: "Love Panic" - Connie Lavigne
Ranma 1/2 OVA OP #2: "Where Do We Go From Here?" - Tanya Hancheroff, Willow Johnson, Cathy Weseluck, Rose Hastreiter, Saffron Henderson
Ranma 1/2 OVA ED #2: "Red Shoe Sunday" - Willow Johnson, Cathy Weseluck, Rose Hastreiter, Saffron Henderson
Ranma 1/2 OVA Ep. 2: "Equal Romance" - Myriam Sirois, Brigitta Dau, Willow Johnson, Cathy Weseluck, Angela Costain
Kishin Corps Ep.?: "Akamamasu Paradise" - ?
Green Legend Ran ED: "Tears and Rain" - Janyse Jaud (Unconfirmed)
Soultaker Ep. 4: (Doctor's song) - Ted Cole
Fancy Lala Ep. 6,11,13,24: "Transparence" - Saffron Henderson
Fancy Lala Ep. 9-10: "Photograph of Spring" - Saffron Henderson
Fancy Lala Ep. 9: (child rhyme) - Saffron Henderson
A Chinese Ghost Story ED: "Evening Fly" - Tanya Hancheroff, John Mitchell
A Chinese Ghost Story: "Kiss the Peach Blossom" - Tanya Hancheroff
A Chinese Ghost Story: "Song of Madame" - Tanya Hancheroff
A Chinese Ghost Story: "Demon of Black Mountain" - Scott McNeil
A Chinese Ghost Story: "Tian Hei Hei Ren Shen Shen" - Don Brown
Bubblegum Crisis and Crash had a number of songs dubbed, far more then I care to type up for now. Rather well too, considering they were esentially zero-budget remakes due to the lack of a usable M&E track.
Bastard!!, Armitage and possibly Hakkeneden had English versions of the EDs preformed by the Japanese artist. I'll have to look up the names later.
Sometime during season 6 of Ranma, possibly "A Chrismas Without Ranma", Akane's two friends (Cathy Weseluck and Willow Johnson) do an "karaoke" version of "Make Me Wild Like You" (season 1 OP) in the background. Dunno if that counts though.
The Patlabor TV extras have a rather stupid attempt by the dub cast to sing the subtitled translation of the ED.
Dominion Tank Police had entirely new OP, ED and background music, though I suppose only songs that are the same as the Japanese count unless we want to drag in all the adapted for TV dubs.

First four episodes of New Cutey Honey have the theme in Japanese. Second set of four have it in English.
But you are right, they aren't dubbed songs, that's how it was done in Japan.
The A-ko songs aren't dubbed either, they were created in English.
Voices is a tricky one. While the English version only appears in the dub - it was an alternate version written by the Japanese as well.

I've tried to add them in whenever I'm doing the entry. So does drakh, EB, & Quid in my experience. So it's fairly here & there depending on who initially worked on the title as to whether they're in the database or not. BGC2040 is one of my shows and I carefully went through all the episodes comparing it to the "As Sekiria" album to make sure I had it right.
Only a few of the Pioneer dubbed songs ever got the singer credited. But my own ear gave me suggestions and I found one of the producer's assistants to confirm various things (Moldiver, for example).

If you're going to list off Belldandy's Egg Song then you'll want to go back through both seasons of Mahoromatic for all of Ellen Wilkinson's singing moments. I always considered these too intergrated with the normal dialogue & character to need an additional credit. Spur of the moment little tunes which don't last very long (but made for almost 6mins worth by the end of the 1st season).
There are also karaoke scenes in Ai Yori Aoshi & Gate Keepers 21 then.

It does go into some blurry territory there. I kinda think I should include her little songs. Oh well, it gives me another chance to rewatch the show.
Still, it is rather hard to know where to draw the line. Kim Prause sings a short little weather charm song in volume 5 of SuperGALS. It's all of 6 or 7 words long. But it is sung. Do I include it? Or do I try to limit this to actual songs that might show up on a soundtrack? And does it really matter, since I'm just doing this for fun?
Rhodes
03-09-2004, 03:27 PM
Actual songs that might show up on a soundtrack is my preference. There are bits of songs/nursery rythms here and there on the Ranma dub or Silent Mobiues... which gets "translated" and sung... yes there is a melody to it. Would you list those?
The list you have is a bit bloated imo... just cause you have a line of words set to a tune doesnt make it a song, case in point FMP or Nadesico no one actually sings a song only a few words set to music or the English words that was already in the song to beging with.
Openings to MKR or Fruit Basket, Blue Gender, YYH, the various Tenchi... those I would consider Dubbed Songs.

All right, I think I got it now.
I've got another song to mention for The Irresponsible Captain Tylor... this time from the OVA Collection and specifically from the 'An Exceptional Episode' chapter of Tylor's War.
The big climactic moment from this episode features a great ensemble song featuring most of Tylor's crew singing while an intense firefight goes off around the ship.
The song lasts for a solid 2-3 minute run beginning with a nice solo from Rachael Lillis and branching out into a chorus that includes Crispin Freeman, Lisa Ortiz, Jill Seifers, Carol Jacobanis, Stan Hart, Nathan Price, Ed Paul and J. David Brimmer among others.
The scene may be cliched all to hell but it's still easily one of my fave musical moments from any anime title... in both dubbed and subbed form (although the North American cast seems to harmonize a bit better together).
I honestly have no clue what the title of this song would be. It features a handful of lines in French from both the English and Japanese track renditions. No helpful hints from the OVA credits, either.

Tylor's worth buying for many reasons. Not only is it one of the all-time great sci-fi anime titles but features the best dub to emerge from NYC apart from His and Her Circumstances (and that's a lofty commendation).
I've got another submission to throw out there, although I'm not sure if it actually qualifies. Koch Records released the Pokemon Christmas Bash album back in 2001 that features the core VAs singing assorted Pokemon-themed carols in character.

Another one came to mind on the road a little while ago. Michelle Ruff as Fujiko Mine in Lupin the 3rd. She sings an old Scottish song to lure the Loch Ness Monster (ep.4) and then later a song about the mean Warden of her prison (ep. 25).

Oh, that's interesting. I'll correct that. While we're on the subject of Michelle Ruff, did she sing Nyamo's Song, or was it left in Japanese? It's just Nyamo singing "La la la la" over and over again, so I really can't tell.

Don't know who sang the Perfect Blue songs, but there were two others dubbed aside from Ai No Tenshi; both Omoide Ni Dakarete Imawa and Hitori Demo Heiki were dubbed, by the same singer as far as I remember. I'll look at the credits when I get home tonight.
yeah, i dont think it was a duet. it seems to me that cindy tried to sing it both in american and japanese. you could tell that the japanese version was not proper japanese.when she says "kimi mo" she pronounces the mo like Moe from the simpsons which is the incorrect way of saying it and she was a fluent japanese speaker. and the voices were the same so it couldnt have been a duet.

I just noticed these as I watched the Princess Mononoke credits scroll by:
Princess Mononoke theme song (Mononoke Hime)
Performed by Sasha Lazard
and
Tatara Women's Song
Performed by Jennifer Cixi, Leslie Ishii, Mary E. McGlynn and KT Vogt (!!)
Additionally, Lumiere's image song, "Hikari no Umi" (featured prominently in episode 20 of Kiddy Grade), was also dubbed. I believe Hirano Aya sang it originally, but this dubbed version sounds like Stephanie Nodolny. Or maybe Colleen Clinkenbeard...?

Okay, I put those in. I listed Stephany Nodolny as the singer of Hiraki no Umi, but if it's wrong, just let me know. Since it's Lumiere's image song, it would have cool if Monica Rial had been able to sing it. Also, what is the name of the dubbed song in the last volume of Kiddy Grade? I think it's episode 23? Sister Princess Ep. 20: The Miracle is Forever - Sister Princess plus 1
I just watched Sister Princess vol. 5 last night and they dubbed the Christmas song they sing. After a beautiful solo by Mariela Ortiz (who knew Aria had such a pretty singing voice /images/graemlins/tongue.gif), the rest of the girls sing. I just copied what the name of the song in Japanese was, since I don't believe it ever had an English name. Also I used the same name that the Japanese gave credit too "Sister Princess plus 1" because I believe all 12 sisters sang plus 1.

/images/graemlins/shy00000.gif Scott wondered if I had wanted Aria because she sang the solo - in all honesty, I'd never seen episode 20, so I didn't know she sang till the day I got the part and my brother sent me a clip and a message "so do you finally get to sing?"
And Sister Princess plus 1 is an accurate credit - all thirteen actresses sang on the song.

Also I used the same name that the Japanese gave credit too "Sister Princess plus 1" because I believe all 12 sisters sang plus 1.
[/ QUOTE ]
/images/graemlins/shy00000.gif Scott wondered if I had wanted Aria because she sang the solo - in all honesty, I'd never seen episode 20, so I didn't know she sang till the day I got the part and my brother sent me a clip and a message "so do you finally get to sing?"
And Sister Princess plus 1 is an accurate credit - all thirteen actresses sang on the song.

And UltraManiac has quite a few characters singing karaoke versions of the Opening and Closing in episode 3.
I'll try to get the episode number for MKR and the song names/actors for UltraManiac later today.
EDIT: Here you go.
Ultramaniac ep. 3: "Kagami No Naka" (Karaoke) - Lorelei Hill Butters
Ultramaniac ep. 3: "I am the man" (Karaoke) - Doug Erholz
Ultramaniac ep. 3: "Hitotsu: Un mei-Kyoudoutai" (Karaoke) - Jennifer Sekiguchi, Lorelei Hill Butters
Ultramaniac ep. 3: "Butterfly" (Karaoke) - Carrie Savage
Ultramaniac ep. 3: "Hitotsu: Un mei-Kyoudoutai" (Karaoke) - Rafael Ankonio
Magic Knight Rayearth ep. 40: "Totally" - Bridget Hoffman

The episodes were called An Exceptional Episode parts 1 and 2 (part 2 is the one they sing in), and the song was the opening theme from the An Exceptional Episode episodes. I can't remember if they used the same song for the later OVA episodes or not, though. And unfortunately I don't recall the song's name. Interesting how the opening itself wasn't dubbed, since the TV opening/ending songs were dubbed. And part of the song is in French.

While not direct translations and are just about re-written, there are some other Poemon songs that were dubbed.
"Rocket Dan yo Eien ni" (Rocket Gang Forever) gets dubbed in one episode (the one where Jigglypuff is introuduced, I believe. Oh yeah, "Jigglypuff's Song" is dubbed, but you may or may not want to count that. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif "Meowth's Song" is dubbed in the Go West, Young Meowth episode. The "Meowth's Party" music video was aired in English once. "Meowth's Party" was aired in the place of Pikachu's Jukebox.
"Rocket Dan yo Eien ni" and "Jigglypuff's Song" was dubbed with Rachel Lillis as Jessie and Jigglypuff, respectively, Eric Stuart did James's parts in "Rocket Dan yo Eien ni", and I don't know the name of Meowth's VA, who did all of those except for "Jigglypuff's Song".
There's also a different Jigglypuff song in Pikachu's Winter Vacation; one that's upbeat and catchy.
In Pikachu's Rescue Adventure, there's a sequence where a bunch of Pokemon are "singing", that got dubbed.

Was this really dubbed? Did it get dropped at some point? I don't recall them singing this song AT ALL in the English version (just grunts instead), and it wasn't included in English on the American version of the soundtrack, while Princess Mononoke theme WAS included dubbed on the soundtrack.
Fox's version of My Neighbor Totoro dubbed "Tonari no Totoro", and I think they dubbed "Sanpo", but I'm not sure.

I added three songs from UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie:
UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie ep. 6: "Good-for-Nothing Princess" - Nancy Novotny
UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie ep. 8: "Save" (karaoke) - Allison Sumrall, Luci Christian, and the Catgirl Maid Squad
UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie ep. 8: "Passion" - Cynthia Martinez
You haven't lived until you've heard Cynthia Martinez belt out Passion. That little lovesick shrine maiden can rock out with the best of them. And Nancy Novotny, who is a great singer (I know because I've heard her) gets to sing yet another off-key song.

In episode 13, I believe, of Shadow Skill TV (Eigi), Elle sings a rather drunken version of the opening theme, "Born Legend" and that is amusingly dubbed by Luci Christian in English. /images/graemlins/happy.gif
EDIT: Here's another, while I'm thinking of it.
Brigadoon Ep. 8: "Niji Iro no Takaramono" - Wendee Lee and Michelle Ruff
And I confirmed that it is ep 13 for Shadow Skill, so to follow the format that would be

It seems Carl Finch (http://www.crystalacids.com/database/person/5514/carl-finch/) is credited on the lyrics and arrangement. You could try emailing him if you want to. I tried once and he actually responded back with who sang the Tenchi Muyo! GXP theme song. It's a shame FUNimation doesn't credit the performers, though...

One of the episodes of Stellvia had the ending song in English as the girls (mainly it was Julie Anne Taylor playing Yayoi who was singing) were doing karaoke at the end of the episode. Does this count since it was mainly in the background? (and was it added to this thread originally?)
How is Kodocha not on this list? I'll have to start going through and listing all the Sana raps and other dub songs.
Here's disc 7 for starters:
Kodocha Ep. 25: "Happy, Happy, Happy!" - Laura Bailey
Kodocha Ep. 26: "Cock-a-doodle-doo" - Laura Bailey, Sonny Strait
Kodocha Ep. 27: "Get Rich Quick" - Laura Bailey
Kodocha Ep. 27: "If you wanna scoop up the dojo..." - Laura Bailey, Sonny Strait
Kodocha Ep. 28: "Merry Birthday Us!" - Laura Bailey
Kodocha Ep. 28: "The love in the Air and the Wind in my Hair" - ?
Kodocha Ep. 28: "He's Some Weirdo that Mr. Hayama" - Laura Bailey, Randy Tallman

Melody of Oblivion had a karaoke bit sung by the monster agent. There was also a cowgirl chorus.
Ah! My Goddess the Movie also had karaoke song by Belldandy and Sora.
Mahoromatic had multiple short singing bits by Mahoro that was put together as a DVD extra.
Hand May May had the Nanbara rap.
El Hazard: The Wanderers Prologue also had a Jinnai rap with Ifurita coming in at the end.

Alright - how about that which is supposed to be the the "Magical Land Theme Song" (according to Asuna and Yue), from episode 17 of Negima! (performed by Luci Christian and Brina Palencia).
And in episode 6 of Abenobashi, Jessica Boone does a rendition of "Aim for the Heart", as Arumi.
Would you count the tail end of a karaoke song from ep. 17 (I believe), of Azumanga Daioh? Christine Auten (Sakaki) sings a bit of "The Heart is a Girl's Parachute" before handing the mic over to Yomi...
Uh, last edit for the night, I think. In episode 45 of Hajime no Ippo (Fighting Spirit), Eddie Frierson (as Takamura) "performs" a karaoke tune called "The Champion". Grant George, Jim Taggert, and Steve Cannon kinda sorta join in (as Kimura, Aoki and Ippo respectively).

Diamond Flower (Daia no Hana)

I see, so it was probably only for like FUNi's Tenchi Muyo GXP and Yu Yu Hakusho?
They've dubbed both OP and ED for Desert Punk as well.

Also, if I'm not mistaken they did Fruit's Basket as well. So who knows, perhaps that they'll do it to Black Cat.

Probably not. Most of the Funi dub songs are from older releases (the only newer ones have been in Desert Punk). It's extremely unlikely that they'll be dubbing the songs from Black Cat, especially since those songs probably require additional licensing rights.

Well, the OP/ED themes may not be in their english form. But Saya's insert song; known as Fuwa Fuwa Fururin is sung in english.

I think that ALL OP and ED songs dubbed into English are pathetic.
Except of course if these are really in English during production (like the Wolf's Rain and GITS SAC songs).
Although I do admit that the OP of the Shaman King english song is not so bad as well as few other Pokemon songs.
Other than that, I am AGAINST dubbing any Opening and/or Ending song into English language.
But if the discussion is about songs that are within the anime, then the first thing that comes into my mind is:
Azumanga Daioh Episode 1 - Chiyo singing the English version of the "Cooking song".
"Cooking is so fun, cooking is so fun. Now it's time to a break and see what we have done.
Yay, it's ready! :)"
Just for fun.

Yeah, I agree. Nothing beats the theme songs in their original japanese format.
lol This can be said with the likes of Naruto (Toonami edition), One Piece etc...

some dubbed songs are very good, I point you in the direction of Fruits Basket, Kiddy Grade, and Nerima Daikon Brothers.
