ComicOne's Junk Force continues the mecha and girls fanservice festivities. The first chapter starts with our group, now bolstered by the addition of Mamet, meeting a handsome young man with the same mission as theirs: stopping the out of control ZPT computer that's turning all of Earth into a desert. Unfortunately for them, he's not all he seems. He's actually from Mars. It turns out Mars was a much more hostile invironment than anyone bargained for. Even with genetic manipulation, Mars is much worse that Earth, even with all the desertification. He's attempting to reprogram the computer to make it more hospitable to the genetically engineered Martians. Of course, all the Earth-born humans will die, but that fine by him.
The next chapter is a Romeo and Juliet story between to towns. Louis and team attempt to broker a peace between them so they can pass through but their efforts land them in jail. A young girl who's been communicating with a young boy from the enemy town for a year now comes to their rescue. Both sides are fighting a war directed by a computer program that's only interested in maintaining a status quo. Our heroes finally end the war and allow the two lovebirds to finally meet in person.
The third chapter is pure fanservice fun as the girls, suffering from too much desert heat and no air-conditioning, while away the time by having a contest to see who's the better woman. It's all goes way too far, with Louis getting to experience the highs and lows.
Liza discovers a young man in the desert who looks just like a boy she once loved. They lived in the same town, and when it was attacked by the ZPT program, they were forced apart. The look on his face as she left and he was left behind has haunted her ever since. This young man's mission is to destroy a dormant weapon that, if it activates, will destroy 20% of the Earth's remaining forests. In their quest to help him, they go up against a group of cyborgs. They are forced to retreat and most of their mecha is seriously damaged or destroyed. The truth finally comes out when it's discovered the young man is a Martial robot who is designed to reflect the image of the person you most care about. The cyborgs are protecting a navigation system disturbance device that is the Martians want destroyed. Liza is finally forced to destroy the robot, despite the fact that it carries the face of her lost love.
The next two chapters involve the military's efforts to capture Mamet. The M.A.M.E.T. type robot has been destroying Earth forces, and the commander who has come for Mamet has a personal grudge to settle, after seeing so many of his comrades die at the hands of the Martial M.A.M.E.T.s. There is a ferocious battle, as Louis, Liza, Wooty and Mill refuse to give up Mamet. With their mecha having been seriously damaged in the previous chapter, they are at a disadvantage. The tide is finally turned when Mamet herself joins the battle. Doing so forces the army back, but Mamet essentially kills herself in the process. The next day, the army returns in greater numbers. With Mamet dead, they have no choice to give her broken body up to the army. When the army leaves, Louis and Mill reveal that Mamet is still with them. They transplanted her data into another M.A.M.E.T. frame, the very frame the army was originally looking for. After a moment's hesitation, Liza realizes that, even with the new body, it's still the same Mamet everyone loves.
The final story was surprisinly heartwarming. The way everyone accepts Mamet as an important and precious member of their family is surprising in a story that's so mecha laden and fanservice friendly. It's not a profoundly deep story, but it's entertaining and I enjoyed it.
