I think Steam Detectives is one of the more overlooked shows of the last year, which is a shame. I really enjoyed it. The final volume was a great ending, and I appreciated finally getting to know what was behind the Phantom Menace after all this time.

For some reason, it took me forever to find this in the store, but I finally found it yesterday, as well as volume 8 of the Steam Detectives manga. I wrote up an overview of the dub (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=524726&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#Post524745) for those that are interested, but regardless of which language people watch the show in, this is one that more people need to check out. Each volume has been a real treat for me over the past year.

I hope they come out with a brick for this series. I saw the first few episodes and liked them, but not enough to take a chance on buying individual releases.

As far as the "great ending" to this series is concerned, I must say I was disappointed.

SPOILS AND WHINING FOLLOW:
We can only assume it was the boy detective himself who emerged from off-camera in the conclusive scene, but we don't really know for sure. I could live with that sort of directorial decision, though. What frustrated me was how very vague the ending was as a whole. So *did* Le Bled die on the road at the end? They certainly hinted that he was going to his death, but just before Le Bled had talked about simply needing some fresh air with his new medicine, confusing the heck out of me. What bothered me about that part was the fact that he just got some lame helicopter shot of his collapsing. Some dramatic finale his life had, IF we even know he died! And Narutaki's escape was never explained, if it was Narutaki at the end after all. And then there was..... well, seriously, am I the only one who felt the conclusion to the Steam Detectives anime was just a bit hollow and unsatisfying?

I'm waiting on this series as well, although I'm waiting on a TRSI bundle rather than a brick. I was planning on picking it up individually, but a bonanza of other titles caused this one to get pushed. Still, it sounds like an enjoyable series and I'm looking forward to picking it up.
