I watched this over the weekend /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif. Good stuff. I think that this might actually be my favorite Tenchi series, I can't wait for the next volume. Hope we get even more fanservice on the next disc

Very good volume. I liked it even better than volume 2. Seiryo is a total idiot. He is a moron. The gals are the same as usual. They are always fighting over Seina. NB is his usual self, always trying to peek at women. Great volume and I can't wait for more. I always wait for each volume in anticipation.

I'm really enjoying the show, but now it looks like my favorite character has been sidelined for the duration. Bummer.

Honestly, if my anime store does not have some of the new volumes of Tenchi GXP and Kiddy Grade out for rental by the end of the summer I'm just going to have to make these series part of my permanent collection.

I'm not sure what episodes are on this disc but as I recall around episodes 10, 11 the show became awesome. It became extremely bloody and there was also the thing with Elma.

That should be about right. The third volume has episodes 9-11.
I'm not sure, but the episodes on this disc felt kinda flat. 15 minutes after watching the DVD I could not remember what went on in the episodes, and thats usually a bad sign.
Is anyone else annoyed by the perpetual band-aid on Seyina's forehead? /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif

I was surprised with the amount of blood in it too. Even the bullet hole into that guy surprised me. It's not everytime you watch anything Tenchi to expect bullet-holes and blood. I had to look back at the age rating, yep, spot on. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I took time this morning to watch this volume, and I loved it. Finally Seina is actually getting some action. And the end of the third episode opens up a whole range of possibilities for the future. A lot of questions raised in this, while still maintaining the humor level. This series is just a lot of fun. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Well what about Tenchi Muyo in Love that whole scene where Cain pretty much ripped off the lower half of that undercover Galaxy Police officer was pretty graphic.

True, considering it's from a movie, so I'm not surprised there was blood and gore. Heh, imo MNE is far more gratuitous than TMiL, and Forever isn't anything close to the standard Tenchi fare either. True there was that scene, but I wouldn't expect as much from a Tenchi TV series. Most of them have never had as much blood (or holes left in people) as I've seen in GXP so far. There were scenes in TV1 and maybe some violence in Shin, but somehow I can't remember if any of them left characters with bloodsplashed faces as shown in this GXP vol. Not that I'm complaining, but from what I've watched so far, it'll probably end up being a favorite series within the Tenchi'verse ever since the original OVAs. No doubt I like the comedy here better than any of the previous TV series, and the characters don't seem as shallow this time around. Regardless if there's blood or not, this series actually has me interested in what the characters will get into next. Plus, Kiriko and Amane are much better at handling Seina than Ryoko and Ayeka ever were to Tenchi. And whereas the other TV series had Ryoohki, NB fills in that 'supporting cast' role in GXP.

Well I thought of a few scenes in the OAVs involving Sasami's "death", they show it in a dream sequence in OAV 7 where she falls down hits her head and blood flows out. Then in OAV 9 they show the actual "death" where she falls and to see her lifeless hand in a pool of blood (at least I think there was a pool of blood?)
Also in the TV series theres was episode 24 with Ryoko's "death", where her had falls down and blood flows down it from her battle wound . I agree it's not too standard, but it is there.

They were "shallow" in Universe?! Maybe at the beginning of Tenchi in Tokyo the characters were handled rather poorly. But in the continuities the characters personalities have been pretty well fleshed out. Ayeka is the only one who seems to really suffer from this outside of the OAV continuity.

Yeah, but I think that's because the Tenchi-formula got so played out in every other anime that they had to do this one a little differently.

Yes, that's why I didn't mention the OVAs. I know there was enough bloodshed, but I wanted to point out that GXP seems to have a lot more of it in comparison to the other TV series. I didn't intend to compare the OVAs against GXP in my previous post.

Other than that, are there any other notables? Kiriko's blood-splattered face, all the while traumatizing Seina, makes that Universe scene pale in comparison.

Tenchi and crew in the Universe weren't as dull as I thought they were in Shin. Though I liked a 1/3 of Shin, it was mainly due to the story involving Yugi, Sakuya, and Tenchi. The rest (especially Yugi's minions)just somewhat fell out of place. Still, half the time spent in Universe was mainly adventurous, which didn't have so much of a story to follow. I still like it, it's just that GXP seems to carry the comedic aspects back from the OVA roots while maintaining a small storyline.

For me it's appealing because it's a little more related to the OVAs with a lot more family-lineage to build upon. The comedy isn't forced like I felt it was in Shin, the characters don't get on my nerves as often as Ayeka and Ryoko's constant quarrels, and Seina isn't as shy as Tenchi was when he had girls riding his back.

Yup. I finally got this last night and watched it promptly. I'm still loving this series. It became a whole no ballgame with this disk too. Kiriko is hot and kicks major ass. And the spoiler: Twist within a twist with Elma was quite impressive. I, for one, didn't see both of them coming. Although we might have gotten a slight hint with her impersonating Amane early on.
Definitely looking forward to the rest!
My copy arrived yesterday. I was enjoying volumes one and two, but with three the series is getting better.
The scenes with Kiriko in battle were a surprise. Am I right in thinking she is slashing her victims with either a natural or artificial claw? The look in her eyes, ferocity of her attacks, and blood on her face gave her a berserker like feel. I can't figure out whether there is a dark side to her, or she was just pumped up with fear of Seina getting hurt. The interaction between the two of them was interesting. Seina feeling bad that he was wimping out and showing fear in front of Kiriko, and Kiriko seemed to be embarrassed about showing her bloody side to Seina. I sort of felt that she has a dark secret aspect and is worried that Seina may be turned off by it.

There was also a hint when Erma first showed up, where I believe Seina noticed her perfume was familiar (was changed in the English dub, though, so no hint there). I wish this one had been a surprise to me, but I read a post from some moron on IMDb that spoiled it for me. /images/graemlins/anger200.gif
Anyway, this was a cool volume. I'm definitely going back to rewatch it pretty soon. Preview for the next volume looks nice too. Can't wait to see how the new green-haired girl complicates things. /images/graemlins/happy.gif
