I want to see this disc tremendously. I need to know what happens.

Definite positives from me as I am a fan of the anime. I just need to collect it eventually. But right now other series are ahead of it. Either way if I remember right the final episodes are emotional and some of the resolutions are pretty nice. But that's all I'll say.

I was one of the early proponents of the show on these forums.
Double positive.

Can't wait to see this one, though I still have another week and a half to go before mine arrives. This has been a great series so far, so I'm really looking foward to seeing how it ends.

I'll be rewatching this series as soon as I get and finish the last disc.. Got to relive the memories of the AL-world. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
Everyone who worked on this series here had so much fun and enjoyed it so much, we were sad to see it over. I hope everyone else enjoys it half as much as we did.

Angelic Layer is one of my favorite animes, with a lot of replay value. It's a fun series that everyone (including my little cousins) can watch. I was disappointed with the manga but the anime definately made me an angelic layer fan. Many times I'm a huge fan of the series and then the ending kills it for me. But I liked how they wrapped it up. Definate positives for both.

Wow, what a great show! Just got disk 7 today and watched it through. Great battles and good episode where Misaki and her mom finally meet.
Did Shuko ever giveIcchan an answer? I can't believe he finally asked her! Go Icchan!

Loved it, loved it, LOVED IT! Good action, interesting characters, emotional moments but not overbearingly so.
Even though the ending is fairly complete, I want a follow-up OVA. I know it's unlikely to happenn, but wouldn't seeing the following be great?

* Angel fights with OVA budget and love
* Misaki dealing with her new-found fame
* Misaki dealing with being the champion, not the underdog
* Alice vs. Misaki on the layer
* If Icchan and Shuko hook up?
* If Ojiro and Misaki do?

Seems like more than enough for a follow-up OVA or even a short series. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I can't wait for this disk. I had to reorder my copy due to a credit card mixup. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif Hopefully they will ship it tommorow so that I can get it by Saturday.
I would say that the Shuko and Icchan situtation was cleared up in Chobits which only took place a few years after Angelic Layer.

I took a look at the last volume of Chobits just now to refresh my memory. The character in question has the same personal name and character design in both Chobits and Angelic Layer, but different family names. That seems to relegate the whole thing to the realm of "Things That Make You Go Hmmm" while still raising the question of "What Did They Mean By That If Anything At All?"

At the beginning of the manga volumes (except volume 1) there are newspaper pages shown, where you can read complete or partial articles about Angelic Layer, there are also a number of CLAMP references in them. Here are some from volume 2 (I only have volumes 1 and 2 of the manga.
There is a full article about Hatoko
Down at the bottom you can see the headline "Young Students Invade Town Seeking "Clow Cards""
On one side, cut off by the edge of the book you can make out the words "Chobit" and "Persocom"
There is also an article about three girls vanishing from Tokyo Tower.

overall i really enjoyed this series and i'm super glad i bought it...
however, i didn't much care for hikaru beting athena. i get the whole because misaki believed in hikaru so much aspect, but i just got kinda annoyed when hikaru was down to 1 little bar of strength and athena still had like half and athena's attack-which hikaru survived- ?and hikaru's couter? managed to totally stop athena who had been the champion for 3 years. i guess it's just me. it wasn't that hikaru won cause i would've been okay with that, it was just how her winning played out that kinda bothered me. anyway other than that minor thing i felt it was an excellent ending

With the budget possibilities of a movie, I want to see either a tag-team fight or a free-for-all. And maybe set it a few years after the series so we can see whether or not Misaki now has a little brother or sister.

One thing did kinda bother me. The climactic battle of Athena vs. Hikaru takes place after Misaki finds out Shu is her mother. So the final battle comes down to, "I love you, Misaki!' POW! 'I love you, too, Mom!" WHAM! Sure, they're not actually fighting in their own persons, but with robot doll surrogates, only that lets them take the violence level even higher. "I've missed you so much, Mom - taste the boot of Hikaru!" "I'm so sorry I didn't see you for seven years, Misaki! PILEDRIVER!" There just seemed to be a very high weirdness factor about it all. Dramatically, I suppose having Misaki find out before the fight allows the series to cover all the personal issues in the episode before the last, so they can end the series on an exciting high note with the climactic battle and clear everybody off the stage as soon as it's over, rather than try to cram all the shocking revelations and issue resolution into the last five minutes following the battle and wind the series down with all the confrontations and explanations and exposition. But that last fight just seemed...strange.

Oh, I hear you and the thought occurred to me also. I tend to think of that last fight as the Quiet Man for girls. That was a John Wayne movie where he and another man are on each other's cases for the majority of the movie. Then they have long fist fight all over the landscape with the townspeople following them and cheering. When it's over they're buddies....
On other's notes. I so loved this last volume the scene where mother and daughter are crying, I'm crying with them.
When it ended after the great end credits on the last episode and wonderful epilogue; I actually applauded! Which is odd because I was alone in my room, but I couldn't help myself.
I want a followup OAV for the wedding of Ichan!!!

The thing is, even though I'm a somewhat sensitive person, I've never cried at an anime series (or any other entertainment piece for that matter). There are moments where tears comes to my eyes, though. In particular as far as AL goes, those flashback moments with Misaki always get me very teary-eyed, seeing that poor little girl having to say good-bye to her mom and also writing that letter /images/graemlins/sad.gif I was definitely happy that Misaki and Shuko got to clear things up before the final battle. It was really sweet.

[/ QUOTE ]
You know what I'm happy about?
That Shuko isn't a spaz like she is in the manga. At least the anime gave her a legitimate reason for her actions making her a much more real and sympathetic character. I don't know what the hell CLAMP was thinking with the manga but it seems that while other CLAMP animes diverge a "little" from the manga Angelic Layer is a whole nother species.

I must be the only one that feels that the manga ending was a lot better, and more believable, than the anime ending /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif. Anyway, it was a great show /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif. I got a little bored with it from disc 3 to 5 but my interest peaked back up towards the end. It was a little too sappy for me at times but I still liked it a lot.

Care to spoil me on the manga ending? I'm curious, and I probably won't be reading the manga anytime soon (as I'm not much of a manga reader)

Hmmmm.... well I have to go back and re-read it to get all the details but here is what I remember. Misaki's mom doesn't have any of the leg problems that she has in the anime. In the manga she is just a woman that is devoted to her work and scared to death of being with her child. She beats Misaki in the championship match of Angelic Layer and then moves in with Misaki and her sister. It's funny because she doesn't know the first thing about being a mom and she's so terrified of Misaki that she can't even speak to her. Hmmm, I believe Misaki & Kotaro get together while Tamayo gets together with Ohjiro...... I'll repost a more detailed response when I get home /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Well I just got done marathoning the last disc and my only disappointment is that not all the relationship stuff is tied up. The manga had Misaki/Ogata notes in the last two volumes so I was hoping for something of the same here.
Oh and am I the only one that likes the manga? It's not a tearjerker like the show but for comedy it can't be beat. Icchan had lots more fun time in the books. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
It would be hard to do another season of this but why not a world tournament (nothing cheesey like G Gundam)? It could take place a year or so afterwards so there could be a world champ in place so Misakichi could still be a kind of underdog.
Blah now I gotta find time to rewatch this show cause it's to good to see only once!

Ah! Finally got to buy and watch this AWESOME conclusion to what has been an awesome series thus far... And let me say, the last fight was spectacular.
Favorite part was the very end credits though. I was happy to see Shuko walking... It sounds corny, but that scene warmed my heart... /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif
Oh, and...

3 vols down, 1 to go (I have 4), and I will DEFINITELY continue this. Its such a positive show, about the little underdog defeating stronger opponents against the odds, but it also doesnt talk down to you. I like that. Angelic layer is the perfect balance for kids and adults alike. This is rapidly shooting up my favorites list along with ROD TV

I finally managed to watch the disc (got it last weekend, but that was ROD weekend. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif ), and I got to say, ep. 25 was a tearjerker. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif
And I just have to say, that's one impressive Angelic battle!!!
Sure there was a feeling of being rushed by the end, but it played out quite nicely. Now it's time to rewatch this thing!! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Such a nice show. I'm glad I got it. I have some questions about Misaki at the end, though.
So we see Tamayo with Kotaro, so does that mean Kotaro gives up on Misaki? Does Misaki end up with Ohjiro? I don't think I'm all that interested in a Misaki/Ohjiro relationship. That's just too weird. Misaki/Kotaro works better for me. Ohjiro needs someone like Tamayo to keep him in place. And just think of all the moves he could learn from her. None of that standing around and letting static electricity take care of things passive aggressive crap! She'd make sure Ohjiro would come into a fight ready to kick ass.

I pretty much thought that Kotaro gave up on Misaki after the beach episode. In fact I thought the Tamayo/Kotaro relationship was going to happen, even way back in the first episode. The usual lifelong friends turn into something more deal. As for Misaki and Ohjiro, I think that something might happen down the line, thus him behaving like Icchan in the end. Maybe there could be a Shuko/Ichiro and Misaki/Ohjiro double wedding /images/graemlins/wink.gif

That's not what I find weird. It's just the there's no depth to Ohjiro's feelings. He's got a school boy crush on Shuko, and then he just transfers that to Misaki. The relationship between Kotaro and Misaki grew much more naturally.

As I've said before, I'm for Misaki and Kotaro. Was there from the beginning, and still am, even after Vol. 6. I agree with martialstax in that the relationship between Misaki and Ohjiro was not to my liking, even not taking the difference of age as a factor. There was a particular moment in the last volume that showed Kotaro still had feelings for Misaki, so I somehow doubt he's given up on her, despite what he knows about Tamayo. Though it's not much, there's also Tamayo losing the sparkler battle with Icchan in ep. 21. I'm sure that wasn't completely meaningless. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
