View Full Version : Tenchi Muyo GXP 4 Subtitle glitch

So, not only does Funimation want to try and force me to watch their preview for some Dragonball Z DVD I'm not even slightly interested in, but I get another disc with screwed up subtitles.
Watching disc 4 today, using Japanese/subbed, I would get subs during the opening animation, then they'd stop when the episode starts. I'd turn them off and back on again and they wouldn't reappear. I have to hit back on the remote to get the subs to show up. Then I watched the entire episode, get to the next episode preview and... same thing, subs off, back to start them up. Watch the opening to the next episode, then no subs after the opening, hit back, now I have subs.
Anyone else having these issues? I really wish Funimation would fix this damn problem. It's the same EXACT problem I had with disc 2 of GXP. You'd think they'd actually look into the problem, but if they're anything like Bandai (it's a Pioneer player problem, really!) then it's not surprising.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just a tad tired and get angry easy when I'm tired.

Pushing the title menu or root menu button should skip straight to the menu. I have tested it to work on three set-top players and WinDVD. The main difficulty is that some players remotes use non-standard words to say that same thing.
It still doesn't make it right, but it does work. Other than disabling a button for a feature that isn't available, I really have never personally seen a legitimate excuse to lock out any buttons. What I mean is the angle button on a DVD with only one video stream, otherwise I wish authorers quit using the lockouts.
I'll try the DVD out when I get a chance.

I was watching on a Pioneer DV-434, forgot to mention that.
Not being able to skip (but I could fast forward) the DBZ preview wasn't the main reason for the post, it's because they screwed up the subtitles... again.
Thanks for checking it whenever you get it though. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Not being able to skip the preview was quite annoying. Thankfully though, I was able to fast-forward through it. I understand the FBI Warning, but the previews......especially of a series that I do not like in the least.....needs to be addressed.

Did you happen to check out your subtitles? Just curious if it's just my player or everyone's.

I ran into the same subtitle problem, Pioneer DV-343. Very
irritating, as you said it's the same problem as with
Tenchi GXP #2, you would think that they could know
not to repeat a mistake...
And I had the same irritation with the trailer. At
least you *could* fast-forward through it; on my
copy of Kiddy Grade #5, all the controls I tried
were locked out... (no wait, I could pause it... big
help!)

Nope. It plays fine on my Panasonic XP50.
One thing I do find really annoying with the GXP release is their failure to match the sound level between the OP/ED and the episode itself on the Japanese audio track. You have to turn up the volume to hear the episode, but the volume of the OP/ED is so much louder that it always leaves us scrambling for the volume control and cursing Funi at the end of each episode. /images/graemlins/anger200.gif
It's really easy to adjust and I wish they would do it. /images/graemlins/relief1.gif

Wait - you have that problem, too? I thought it was my setup (noted this on the earlier discs).

Yeah, I also noticed it on the earlier ones, but never got around to posting about it. It's the way the disc is authored and it just shows a complete lack of attention to detail.
Between this and other things (including non-skippable front loaded trailers), Funi is now one of those studio names that make me cringe when I hear they have licensed a title. /images/graemlins/relief1.gif

I have the same audio problem, but just find it a minor annoyance.
As for the original question, subs display fine on my Toshiba SD-310V.

Well, for me it's the same but since I sometimes watch Anime later at night my neighbors surely are NOT happy when my receiver suddenly starts firing up (including the subwoofer).
It sounds like their sound engineer is simply deaf.

Roommate's DVDs but still on my Panasonic DVD-S35, subs are fine. Sound is an issue of course. ED blows me out of my chair every time it starts.

Subs - No problems on my PS2 or Sony AVD-K800P. They probably got some thing against Pioneer /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif. With FUNi, who knows?
Audio - As moeru said OP/ED continue to blow me out of my chair /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif.
Trailer - On, both, my PS2 and Sony AVD-K800P I skipped it with the top menu option. I suggest hitting this when the FBI pops up for those who still have problems during the menu.
