View Full Version : Read or Die OVA Glitch
I know this was posted on the forum some time again when the Read or Die OVA was originally released, but seeing it on TV reminded me again about this issue.
If I recall correctly, numerous players experienced heavy video breakup in two spots of the OVA.
In the first episode during the flight of the giant airplane, and in the third episode during the sword fight.
I was wondering if Manga ever resolved this issues in future pressings, as I hated to see such a wonderful OVA marred with a problem.

What were the original problems? Got timestamps? I can check my copy, it's only a few months old.
I can't give exact timestamps. I described the screens as best I could above.
The first is in Episode one during the first few moments of the giant paper airplane sequence.
The second is in the Episode three when Yomiko fights the electric guy with the sword made from money.
That's about as specific as I can get.

This problem varyed from player to player. For example, my Samsung player did a little bit of microblocking on the paper airplane scene. While my Sony player plays the scene properly without any problem. I also heard some people say that their players did a little bit of skipping on that (paper airplane) scene. It just depends what player you are using that's all.

I played through the disc three times in my Sony player and no problems at all.

Wow, are you suffering from Yomiko overload?
I also didn't have any problems (Zenith 318)
I have the Canadian version and had no problems with my DVD drive nor with my stand alone player.

I have the Canadian edition too...
On my old Toshiba, never had any problem. I recently showed the scene on my newer jvc, and the picture broke.

Picture broke up into little blocks (microblocking)? Like I said before, some players won't have any problem, while others will.

I received the Read or Die OVA DVD from TRSI today, I just finished it. As I was watching, I noticed one instance of macroblocking at one of the scenes mentioned above. I made a note of the timestamp. It is:
Chapter 15 [03:27]
My DVD player is a
Playstation 2 (Two Months Since Original Purchase, Works Great for Everything Else I Have)
Model Number: SCPH-50001
I played back the same instance on the Windows Media Player on my PC, there is no macroblocking present for that particular timestamp.
So I suppose it's a issue present from player to player.
It's a bit of an eyesore, but at least for me, it's not something to make a return over.
As others have said, it must vary depending on what player is used; my copy has always been fine, on my Samsung player as well as PowerDVD and Windows Media Player.
Thanks for all the responses. I don't immediately have another DVD player on hand, but from what everyone says this seems to be player specific.

Never had a problem with the airplane scene, but I had it happen inconsistently for the swordfight on my Pioneer 525*. Sometimes it plays fine, sometimes it breaks up for a second.

Nope, Pioneer only sold off there anime studios. Not there hardware division, so it's still a Pioneer.
I've seen the same two breakups on my Sony NS-715p. My cousin's Pioneer player played through them fine though.
