View Full Version : Mezzo DSA vol1 - won't load in some players?

Been having some interesting difficulties with the new Mezzo DSA disc that just came out last week. In my elderly Toshiba SD-1600 I have had no problems so far. However, in the DVD-ROM, a Matshita SR-8174, won't even load the disc and stops trying after about 15 seconds of graunching noises as it attempts to seek and focus (this drive still has no trouble with other discs, including other ADV dual layer pressings and known troublemakers like the Manga End of Eva disc.)
Now, the scary bit is that upon examining the disc surface I notice that about 1/2 of the area from the center out is slightly darker than the outer region... which I have often heard described as what delamination looks like. Has anyone encountered any loading/playback issues with this disc, or did I just have bad fortune of receiving the one abused disc in circulation?

Sounds like an incompatibility issues still.

It's most likely not delamination, since it works with your Toshiba player. If you have delamination, the disc won't work at all. It's most likely discolorization during manufacturing, when they mixed the powders together (Gold and Aluminum). I personally have several discs that have discolored spots and they all work fine.

Discoloration is not all that uncommon with disks. Delamination would make at least portions of the disk completely unreadable especially on the second layer.
