In Summary:
While not a knockout first release for a couple of reasons, Pathfinder's release seems competent enough that if they pick up any other short shows as I can't imagine them grabbing a series it won't cause any major worries. The lack of a dub is hopefully something that they'll reconsider in the future if they got enough negative feedback about it here but if they choose to go after a couple of other short things that nobody else has bothered with then I won't mind terribly. The production values here are good overall and other than some slightly questionable name translations it's a pretty good release. If only the show itself wasn't so simple and relatively self-contained.

I bought this completely blind, mainly because it was only $12, and I enjoyed it. It not having a dub wasn't a problem for me as I'm subs only, but it is a shame that there isn't one for the people who like them. Overall quite a decent release, just wish there was more of it /images/graemlins/happy.gif

You can read my thoughts on it in this thread (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=region1&Number=777440&Foru m=f15&Words=tristia&Searchpage=0&Limit=100&Main=77 7440&Search=true&where=sub&Name=&daterange=1&newer val=1&newertype=y&olderval=&oldertype=&bodyprev=#P ost777440).
As far as no dub, it does suck for those that want it, but I think Pathfinder is going for the "film" fan with their releases. NONE of their foreign films appear to be dubbed, or at least not the few I spot checked their website (http://www.pathfinderpictures.com/).
Lack of real chapter stops is an issue. The video quality is freaking amazing, and it looks about as close to an R2 DVD release as we've ever seen here in the US.
Good first effort. If they add dubs and pick up more shows, a lot of people should be pleased. Even without a dub, fans should still be pleased when getting something with such amazing video quality.

Loved it /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif I thought that Pathfinder did a good job for their first release. Good thing I waited to buy this show because I was about to shell out $100+ on the two episodes on R2 DVD /images/graemlins/stunned1.gif

I only wish they'd turn this into a TV show, instead a 2 episode OVA. There's too much crammed into the OVA.

Positive. Lack of dub hurts, but great video and low price helps. I haven't been able to find this at any retailers. I've tried Best Buy and Suncoast (Suncoast not having it was really weird). I guess it's an online buy for me /images/graemlins/relief1.gif.

Damn if it's only $12 I thinkl I'll have to check this series out /images/graemlins/happy.gif So where did you get it for 12?

Positive and a B+ from me. Enjoyed the show; video and animation quality were really good. I would really have liked to had a dub, but for a short OVA like this I'm fine with the sub only. Only real weakness in the story was what Chris pointed out -- it's a pretty short show and the supporting characters get minimal development; would be nice to see more episodes. It is a fun and enjoyable show.

I don't know about $12, but if you don't mind $10 it's still at Deep Discount DVD.
I had to give this release a C+ just because the subtitles were so off (or non-exsistant at points). It reminded me of how Nutech has done their hentai releases recently. Poorly done subtitles and very barebones, but excellent video quality. At least Nutech includes chapter stops and a dub, but then again, Nutech is $10 for 30 minutes while this one is $10 for 60 minutes. I like the show, but I don't like the release.

If they're into testing the waters for their line, I wouldn't mind them getting the distributing rights for Hoi*Hoi-san. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

now that's an awesome show. so cute. they need to put that on a mini dvd and sell it cheap cuz of it's runtime. Too bad I don't see it getting released here because of that /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif.

I should have bought this when I saw it sitting on the shelves at Fry's....eh, maybe next time. For something I've never heard of, it sounds pretty interesting.

Try DDD. They're selling it cheap over there. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

You guys need to remember that Pathfinder probably only got this title because they have a distribution contract with The Klockworx Company. I believe this is the company that holds distribution rights for Tristia in Japan as well. Here is a link to The Klockworx Anime site (http://klock-anime.net/) and a link to their live action/main site (http://www.klockworx.com/).
I don't know that Pathfinder is actually out actively searching for stuff to license, they just take what The Klockworx gives them, as was the case with Tristia.

Strange thing is, much of Klockworx's inventory is already licensed and they don't have many anime properties to begin with. Most of the stuff PFP is getting is LA because of this.

Since the disc cost less than the shipping for the two R2 volumes from Japan, I picked it up from DDD. As mentioned, the video quality is excellent and I'm kicking myself a little bit for spending $120 more for basically the same thing. It's unfortunate that the subs weren't too great, and even with my so-so Japanese there were parts where I wondered if the subtitle scripts got switched with another show. /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif
The show is bright, pretty and fun, but there just isn't enough to the story or characters for it to actually be good. It's sad that this is the best OVAs can manage these days. B+, but only because it's cheap.

Though were these titles licensed before or after the distribution agreement? I think the agreement took place sometime in 2002, but I'm not sure on that. Could be that any future "The Klockworx" Anime cames through Pathfinder. It's all speculation however.

FMP!
FMP? Fumoffu
This is all that comes to mind. Check here (http://klock-anime.net/) for more info (I've noticed major inconsistancies regarding the transition from the old site to the new one.

According to Anime News Network (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=614) The Klockworx has had production hands in a lot of stuff. Maybe they are just going with a per title basis and anything no one else wants they'll give Pathfinder? Weird. Why have a distribution contract if you don't distribute? Though Pathfinder DOES do a lot of live action stuff...

And low price, you can't forget that. I'm extremely pleased with this release. I hope they pick up more titles in the future.
The no chapter stops thing bothers me as well, but eh, I can deal with it.

Maybe I'm missing something, or ANN is wrong, but isn't all of Klockworx's inventory licensed? There are only six or so titles on the list...

Okay, slerch, I do contribute to the site, but it's not that reliable of a source. I've noticed some people find a title on a site (ie Klockwork) and just add them to thee Production list at ANN. When they could very well had been distributors or broadcaster or music production. This is why I check the info myself and then check ANN or vice versa. That is the story or my credit whordom /images/graemlins/relief1.gif

Well, you can cross off "Tristia" off that list. TRSI has "To Heart". I'm hoping someone announces "Girls Bravo" soon, and I don't really know what the rest of those titles were.

Ah, so the 3 titles you listed are the 3 you are sure of? Makes sense.
It will still be interesting to see if Pathfinder gets any of the other stuff (http://klock-anime.net/newtitle/index.html) they have listed under "new" (Tristia is still labeled "new" /images/graemlins/stunned1.gif). Though as noted, some of that stuff has already been licensed by others.
So whatever happens to the titles listed there, hopefully Pathfinder gets thrown another bone.

AFAIK, Klockworx is mainly a distro company. They usually distribute titles under Happinet Pictures (who also happens to be a distibutor /images/graemlins/knowital.gif). FMP! and FMP? Fumoffu are from Happinet (formerly Beam Entertainment), Maburaho is from Scitron Digital Contents (a Happinet subsidary)... So on, so forth. The only title I can really confirm as really being a Klockworx produced title is FMP! (as they were pat of the MITHRIL committee). So it's kinda hard to tell what exactly is in TCC's inventory.
