In Summary:
While the series hasn't won me over completely, the change in the mood and progression of the events in this set of episodes is definitely making me more interested in it than I was previously. The verbal sparring isn't on the level of some other shows that I enjoy but it's providing to be a challenge to the characters to solve what's being thrown their way and since they have to do it with their intelligence and not action-hero skills, that alone makes it more interesting to watch than a lot of things out there. The show has a ways to go before really impressing me but they've managed to get past some of what made the series hard to get into at first.

I like the show /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif. After the first volume I wasn't so sure if I was going to continue or not, (the blade children were so lammmeeeee!), but the second volume made me decide to stick with the show. Plus If I were Ayumu, I would sooooooooooooooo do my sister-in-law. Oh, and Hiyono too /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

I had a little trouble making up my mind about the show after the first volume, but now I'm glad I stuck with it. The storyline that ended this volume was great and I hated it that the volume ended just as it was getting really good. I'd give it a "B+" at least. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
And I agree with Malrock, the sister-in-law is hot... /images/graemlins/shy00000.gif

This series has sucked in my soul. I randomly grabbed volume 1 off my backlog, and had to stop midway through for personal reasons. However, finishing that led me to this volume, which was blown through in nothing flat. Now I need disk 3 sitting here so I can watch more... it's been a long time since an anime's done this to me!

I didn't like volume 1, but I decided to watch the second volume anyways, and really enjoyed it. I voted "B+" for content.

Yay! I'm glad to see some others besides me decided to stick with Spiral even after the mediocre first volume. It's still one of my favorite shows even after a year where I've watched so many new things. I have volume 2...haven't found time to watch it just yet, but I know these were some of my favorite eps. I'm still just amazed someone even licensed such a lesser known show like Spiral...gives me hope for the manga /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif.

I wasn't really expecting the second of six volumes to have the ending.

I keep forgetting about this series. I need to buy it eventually. Has Funi announced a boxset yet, or is it left to our educated assumptions that one will follow some time after release?

Funi hasn't announced all the volumes yet, let alone a boxset. Give it a year or so after the last volume is released, a boxset should come out.

That's what I was assuming, but people were recently talking about how Funi announced a box for Fruits Basket early into its release (they mentioned it as one possible reason for its reportedly lackluster sales).

So, I didn't know if Funi did that often, like CPM and TRSI.

Which is why, even though it's an opinion, you should have presented it as a S*P*O*I*L*E*R.

It's amazing how - two words - can really piss someone off. I didn't even have the choice of whether to read it or not. Thanks.

On the bright side, think of it as being angry now, versus being angry after paying for 6 volumes. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I also recall that Lance mentioned something about a Kiddy Grade boxset, while he would be making the LE cards available for sale on their site.

Therefore, a boxset for Spiral is just a matter of time.

I'd like to see the manga too, especially since I've read that the ending to the anime doesn't really give us an ending. Like Kare Kano & Berserk, etc. I definitely want to see where this story goes...

I guess by indicating that the ending really isn't an ending, and things are not resolved. For example, that poster might have been sitting around at episode 22 or so wondering how they're gonna tie everything up... but now he knows they don't which kind of spoils. I guess. Though in truth he's better off knowing beforehand so he's not as horribly disappointed as we were. I dunno!

That said, I love the show, regardless of the ending, but will be waiting for a collection.

The first thing to realize about most anime series is that the endings suck, particularly in the last ten years or so when there's been more concern about keeping a franchise and post-merchandising going than the actual show itself. Once you just get into it for the journey of the show and roll with the endings things like that take on less meaning. After all, I'd rather have 25 really good episodes and a sucky ending than 25 mediocre episodes and one great ending.

Yep, that's what Spiral is, 23 really fun episodes and then a terrible "ending." The "game" arc is worth buying the whole series for by itself. Granted it's been a looong time since I've seen it but by the time a boxset hits and I can watch again, it'll just be that much closer to "fresh" for me, and I'll enjoy rewatching it that much more.

Saikano comes to mind. Mediocre show, which I wanted to give up on, but people kept telling me the ending was great -- and it was.
