In Summary:
In the last couple of years I've managed to see a fair amount of Tomino's works and I always approach each of them with a sense of dread, particularly after Brain Powered. Though his works always seem to capture me in the end, even if they fail spectacularly like that series did, there are generally such interesting ideas and presentations within that make it worthwhile. With Overman King Gainer, Tomino's been able to produce something that is far more accessible much earlier than his other works. While I still expect a lot of changes and things to not go smoothly, the opening five episodes of Overman King Gainer proved to be visually exciting and with characters and situations that just engaged easily and quickly.

You listed the aspect ratio incorrectly in the header w/ cover art section of the page (at least I assume it's incorrect, since the review says it's in anamorphic widescreen). /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif

Anyway... giant robots? Anamorphic widescreen? Five episodes? Consider me sold. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Sweet I'm a BIG FAN of his works so it was an easy pre-order but now I'm pumped to get it!

Sunrise is really getting into this, aren't they? UM, positive from me (since the review rated it well).

Positive. Sure to be a contender for sleeper hit of the year. Giant robots with magical dreadlocks and chainsaw rifles never fail to entertain.

To be precise, giant robots with magical dreadlocks and chainsaw rifles doing the monkey during the opening credits. King! King! King Gainer!

We love you, Tomino (http://www.ibiblio.org/phil/images/overmantomino.gif).

Actually, as the series continued, the OverSkill that comes from OverSkin gets crazier and crazier.

I think he finally lost it. I think Tomino is completely off his rocker. That being said, what a great show /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

edit: I'm a little disappointed to learn that every R2 volume of Overman King Gainer came with a 16 page booklet and we don't even get an insert /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif. It would have been awesome if Bandai would have included the booklets

edit2: also, I'm curious to why they changed the R2 logo. It's already in big, english letters /images/graemlins/stunned1.gif

Nah, his sanity had already dropped to zero gone by the time he worked on Brain Powered. With Gainer, it's started coming out on the other side.

Adette is the hottie, Sara is pretty, & Princess Ana (along with Link, Linse, & Linna) is kawaii. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

This was a blind buy that I just got yesterday & it's been a fun disc through the 5 episodes. Alot of likeable characters so far & a great op sequence (http://www.angelvoice.net/real/overmankinggainer_vidop.rm). <- Click to check it out(realmedia).

Thanks for posting that. I was trying to decide whether I wanted to start buying the series right away or hold off for a cheap bundle/sale whatever later. After seeing that OP, I have no choice but to order volume 1 ASAP. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Finally I've recieived my copy of the first volume and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Overman King Gainer gives me those same feel good vibes, which I got from Heat Guy J last year. It's something about the pragmatic attitude of the characters, who go ahead and deal with problems and the general situation, instead of agonizing over them. It also helps of course, that the series doesn't take itself too seriously. The various characters' personalities are fun and it's great to see them interact (Seeing the little princess being bossy with Gainer and/or her ferrets alike is too cute. She'll be fearsome as an adult /images/graemlins/happy.gif). Visually, OKG has also a lot to offer. Beginning with one of the most entertaining OPs in a long time (I can't get enough of them doing the monkey dance /images/graemlins/happy.gif), there's good animation, nice backgrounds and appealing character designs (Mmmh, Adette.../images/graemlins/noseblee.gif). The mech designs are refreshingly different, especially the Overmen. I'm definitely looking forward to the next volume.

PS: Here's a small treat (http://home.in.tum.de/~jamicic/shiho001.jpg) for those who watch My-Hime. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I remember at akon that jerry talked about the licensing of the show and now I can not wait until I go and pick this up. Another great work from tomino.

Just finished it a couple of minutes ago, it's a good series full of classic Tomino goodness and with a very light atmosphere, me being more accustomed to his "Kill'em All" fair(Zambot 3, Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Dunbine) I find it a good tripdown the Siberian Railway /images/graemlins/wink.gif

about the op....The song is closer to a 70's mecha show but the visuals are sure freaky, like the Ice skating sequence with Gainer and Sara, and the group shots and the characters and mecha doing that funky monkey dance /images/graemlins/stunned1.gif
