View Full Version : Manga Highlights from the Retail Forum v. 2.0

Note: Please be aware that by the forum rules, all retail-orientated threads (coupons, deals, retailer questions, etc) should be posted in the Retail Forum (http://forums.animeondvd.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=retailforum).

However, since deals on manga are often not as frequent or high-profile as their anime counterparts, and because many of the forum regulars don’t often venture into the wild world of the Retail Forum, this thread is meant as an easy way to be kept abreast of sales, coupons, and stealth promotions for manga.

How this thread should work:
This is a one-and-only thread.

After someone posts information about a coupon, sale, or deal relating to manga in the Retail Forum, a second post can be made to this thread, in the form of a link to the original post.

This thread can be updated by anyone, anytime with links to new sale information relating to manga as found in the Retail Forum. (Please check the thread before posting about a particular sale or coupon, to be sure no one else has already done so.)

New coupons/deals/sales links should be made by reply to the parent-post.

Calls for recommendations or any discussion of the sales or companies themselves should NOT take place in this thread, but in their respective forums. We have a Retail Forum (http://forums.animeondvd.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=retailforum) for all retail-related discussions and a Manga Recommendations (http://forums.animeondvd.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=mangarecommends) forum for discussion of titles.

Some members here may remember the 1st incarnation of this thread. We hope this new version will work the same way. If anyone has any questions, or would like to discuss this thread, feel free to PM me.

To start this thread off:

There are currently 2 items of interest to manga fans in the Retail Forum.

and

Well, it's for March, not February, but I'll toss it up early in case anyone needs to plan in advance how to spend it....

Borders coupon (http://www.bordersstores.com/features/feature.jsp?file=savings), good March 4-6, 20% off almost everything in the store, read the fine print, good at Borders, Borders Express, Waldenbooks, and Brentano's.

50% off manga & anime books at FYE (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=887432&page=&view=&sb =5&o=&vc=1)

Posted on Friday last week..as the original poster mentioned, no idea how long the sale is for. (I'd check but my FYE doesn't sell manga.)

When I was in Waldenbooks this Saturday, they had their B4G5F sale going on.

Do you know if it was actually for *manga* though? Asking for clarification because they have had a sale for pretty much the whole month on Romance and Af-Am lit.. maybe even bargain, I can't remember.. but the signs aren't that clear, just small print under the B4G5F that says "from selected genres." I do know there've been no manga sales at my waldens for a while, and nothing this weekend while I was there (Fri/Sat).

It was for bargain books, I think. I was there on Friday and got a bit excited when I saw the sign, but then again, they seem to have those sales a lot for anything but manga.

Same in mine, and the people who work there said they still don't even know when the next manga sale will be. They said they had sales going into April, and there's nothing coming... so much for their more sales for eliminating preferred reader...

I have no idea (as my FYE doesn't even carry manga) - but you should ask this in the retail forum where the post originated. Please do so in the future.

Overstock.com has $1 shipping for your entire order in March, and cheap manga prices (29%-32% off retail) (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=892256&page=&view=&sb =5&o=&vc=1)

Also, if you search around, some of the books just flat out have free shipping. Seems to be at random.

This coupon (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=954668&page=0&view=co llapsed&sb=5&o=&vc=1) gives you 10% off your purchase at Borders until 4/30/05. This coupon should stack with the manga sale, huzzah.

Also, while I'm here a reminder that Waldenbooks & Borders have a 25% sale (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=950918&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=&vc=1) for educators this weekend, April 15-17. That's past and present educators both, but the sale will NOT stack on the current Buy 2 get 1 Free manga sale they are also offering, however.

Also TSRI is having a tokyopop studio sale so people intrested might want to stop by the retail forum.
Here's the Link (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=956362&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=365&fpart=1) to post in the retail forum.

edit: had to wait till shawne officially post instead of posting that humungous thread that it origionally appeared on.

New email coupon out: 25% Borders/Waldens coupon (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=998572&page=0&view=co llapsed&sb=5&o=&vc=1) (until 5/30)

Mwhhahhahh I found it.

20% off manga + free shipping (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=1030752&page=&view=&s b=5&o=&vc=1) The manga, at the 9.99 mark is 6.99, 20% off that , + tax would be around 6.10 per book. Not bad. Other price points go up one dollar, like tsubasa is 7.99. SJ books are 5.99.
the search really really sucks, search under company name such as Tokyopop or viz. One can also try mangaka names. Don't use manga names unless it's something that wouldn't be a common book title.
Above expires uh... the 13th um... tomorrow(in nine minutes?, though I'm assuming it's going by midnight... Shoulda posted sooner but was doing other stuff....

Borders 25% off coupon (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=4&Number=1030523&page=&view=& sb=5&o=&vc=1) expires 19th

Often on this forum I see people asking for recommendations on sources for import publication subscriptions. I have posted this question in the forum thread (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1087539&page=0&view=colla psed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1) however I thought if posting in this thread since it's purpose is to highlight manga offers in the retail thread. If you have any input, please post in that thread as I will not be able to respond to any comments in this thread.

Thanks /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

One book, not one item. Items include box sets and DVDs and calendars and other interesting stuff which are not books....sigh....

*itching to buy Fruits Basket calendar with a hefty discount*

Just books this week. However, I've been told that Clamp no Kiseki counts as a book, so....
