In Summary:
Tsukihime was a title that right from the start had a difficult time with us for a variety of reasons as mentioned throughout all three of our reviews of the series. A lot of times it was just so obvious that it was coming from PC game origins that you could almost feel like you were moving the characters around in their stiff way with a mouse. The look of the show with its character designs and atmosphere was really good and it definitely took on the oppressive feel that it was supposed to, but with the characters being uninteresting right from the start and the way the show felt like it had little vitality to it just nullified a lot of that. If I had played the game it may have been different, but that's just not happening here so on the basis of the show alone, this is one that I can't imagine checking out again.

Content on this one was OK. Gave it a B+. I really enjoyed the 2nd disc the most of the 3.

Overall, it ended in as sullen a fashion as I had expected, which was a little disappointing; I was hoping for a little unpredicability which the majority of the show was kinda lacking in.

Even though a lot of the people I've spoken with about the series were relatively unimpressed, I actually enjoyed it. To each their own, I suppose.

There were a couple things that I am guessing were thrown in as a nod to the people who had played the game as there were a few spots I was thinking that something was a little out of place.

If a person only had enough money for 1-3 disc series, I don't know that I would recommend it. For someone looking for a good weekend distraction with money to spare, it's worthwhile.

i had high hopes for this series. interesting story, great visuals but alas it falls flat on its face as is typical of most shows.

B- and positive from me. I liked the series, but I agree with the people that said it should have been longer.

I really didn't like the way it ended, it left me confused. Maybe I missed it, but did we ever figure out what the Tohno family secret was? And I don't mean that there were two Shiki's.

That the family blood line contained "not human" blood, and it fell on the head of the household to contain it. Ahika became the head of the household when their father died, but because she was so young it was too much for her to contain. She became the head of the household because Shiki wasn't really blood related. The adopted Shiki was taken in by their father because he came from a clan of demon hunters, and their father thought this might one day help the family solve their curse, or at least help keep it in check

There definitely seemed to be more to the story, but I was happy with the explanation they gave during that one episode. To me, the series stopped being about vampires and family secrets by the 2nd volume, and more about Shiki and Arcueid's growing relationship

Thanks, I'm going to have to watch through the series again, to see if I can get a better understanding of it all.

Like I said though, almost all of that information is put forth in one of the last episodes on volume 3. It's not so much "pieced together" throughout the show, as much as an information dump within one episode.

I gave it a "B" and an overall "positive."

Tsukihime entertained me, but it will never be one of my favorite shows. (I'm not even sure I'll ever rewatch all 12 episodes.) On the plus side, the show did a great job of presenting mood & atmosphere; it had nice character designs, and great music.

On the down side, neither the story nor the characters were developed as fully as the could/should have been.

I probably would have been better off renting Tsukihime, but since I'm a sucker for shows with vampires, I'll be keeping it in my collection.

The final volume gets an A+ from me. Mostly because Shiki had sex with Arcuied & then she died. Shiki is the freaking man, I'm glad that he had the balls to have sex with a woman that wanted him. I wish she would have lived but I'm glad the creators didn't cop-out by having her come back to life. I hope Shiki eventually ends up with the cute girl in his class though

This is a great series that gets a lot of flack (maybe understandably so) but I still love it. It would have been better as a 26 episode series because it seems everything was rushed at the end, which was to be expected. Likable characters and it was even semi-moving at times (as much as it could be in 5 or so episodes of plot development). Anyway, I really want to play the game now. Oh, and it had a lot of hot women in the show

Actually I got the impression that Shiki rebuffed the girl in his class. Especially since she ran away crying at the end. Although I wished he would have ended up with her too.

Yeah he did but I thought it was more of a I'm sorry, I really love someone else and can't return your feelings right now. I mean the girl he loved just died a couple days before so of course he isn't going to jump into a new relationship. But since Arcuied is dead I don't expect him to never have another relationship. I think the next logical choice would be her since he seemed to have feelings for her before Arcuied steped in the picture

Good points, although with the series over, we'll never find out what happens.

I just wanted to mention that Arc isn't dead. She is immortal. She puts herself to sleep because at this point she cannot control her bloodlust. There would be no way for her to stay with Shiki and live like a normal human so she removes herself. As for Satsuki, I'm happy and sad for her. Happy that she gets to live in the anime. Sad that she STILL gets turned down even when she does survive. /images/graemlins/sad.gif

Yeah that's what threw me for a loop since in the game she died but it's all good /images/graemlins/happy.gif It would be nice if they would do an ova now about the side story to the game.

When you put it that way, it does make the ending seem a little more unsatisfactory. I assume that Roa and Arcuied are destined to meet again?

Shiki's entire purpose of being is to act as a counteragent to Ciel. Ciel's curse is that she cannot be kill. The Church tried, and failed to end her life many many time (they finally puts her to better use). Nature abhors this kind of abnormality, so Shiki is born. He ends things, with death as an usual side effect. When he ends this incarnation of Roa, I think it's perminent.

Then why did Arcuied come back to life after Shiki killed her?

I'm glad this thread resurfaced... especially since I just finished the last disc this morning. ;_;

Overall, I rather liked this show. I didn't like the first two episodes, but thanks to Netflix, I stuck through it and ended up liking it by the second disc.

In the "True Ending" of the game it's explained that: After Shiki killed Roa, Arc got back some of the power he took from her and thus was able to resurrect herself. But she decided to go into an eternal sleep, but told Shiki that she wouldn't be sad, because she would always dream of him

First off, I thought the series was awesome. The best was definetly disk 2.
How do we do know Roa is actually gone for good. Arc said that she killed Roa while he was residing in Ciel. But Ciel is still alive and well. I don't get how she's immortal, unless it's a side effect from being reincarnated with the soul of an ancient evil possesing you?

Roa usually re-incarnated himself to someone born into power or money, usually both (as in his current body). In the case of Ciel, no one could understand the reason. She's born onto a modest farming family of no importance. It's only after Arc killed Roa in Ciel body that the reason became clear: Ciel's body cannot be killed. After Arc left the scene of the crime, the Church shows up and try to destroy the body. They tried and failed many many times. When they finally give up, they charge the body with its original soul to go forth and hunt monster. This is the anomaly that Shiki with his Eye of Death Perception was supposed to correct. Had Ciel wanted, Shiki could end her existance for good.

Was this explained in the anime? If it was I really missed that /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif. Or does the video game or manga explain it?

I believe it was explained in the game. There's an english website devoted to the game, that has game scripts, summary, ect and it explains shiki's powers, which in fact is a little different from the Roa controlled shiki's powers. Shiki's power is more powerful than Shiki(Roa)'s.
