I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience to mine here.

On the third volume of the series, 6:57 into episode 15 ("Those Women..."), Misato wanders into the apartment where Asuka is eating chips and watching TV. There's no audio for the show she's watching, but the subs are there. No problems with the English track here.

On the fifth volume, 6:04 into episode 20 ("Weaving a Story 2..."), Rei is waking up to the sound of a radio broadcast, only I'm getting no broadcast, only the subs. Again, no problems on the English track in the same scene.

Perhaps there are other scenes on other volumes where I haven't caught the phenomenon, but these are the two I could for sure identify from the discs I watched last night.

I'm not able to check now, but I have a sneaking suspicion this is the same sort of issue that people have mentioned with titles like Fighting Spirit, in which audio coming from way the heck off to the left or right seems cut out for those with audio setups not able to deal with such directionality or who just might not have the volume up high enough. Not saying you're wrong, Shsway, but just a thought.

Episode 15 is on volume 4, not 3. The dialog is in the rear channels and very quiet, but it's there. The radio broadcast in episode 20 is barely audible, but present in the front channels. I'm assuming it was intended to be this way, can someone with the R2s confirm?

I know exactly what you're talking about. However, IIRC, I didn't have any problems. The radio chatter is faint in both instances because it's meant to be a subtle touch, but it is indeed there. I am using a 5.1 sound setup, so that may have affected things.

Ah, OK. I probably mistyped there. I'll edit accordingly.

Mayhap my ears are getting a little dull with time (or the directionality of my sound system may indeed be responsible for this). I guess I could double-check to be sure.

What sort of setup do you have? I forgot that we're talking about 5.1 audio here, so if it's really soft and from a rear channel then there's an even higher chance of it being lost somewhere, espcially if you're downmixing on a setup that isn't properly meant for 5.1 audio.
