In Summary:
While it's been expected for the show to change gears slightly to come full circle, now that it's here and we've got a few episodes of pure Grave under our belt, I'm still not sure how I feel about it. The addition of thirteen years time difference has also made it so that you can't be quite as in touch with the rest of the cast as you once were either considering the kinds of things that could go on in-between, but most of them are still the same as we know them. The lines are drawn pretty bluntly for how the last ten episodes of the series are going to play out now that Brandon's got himself something new to fight for and more than enough reasons to do what he's always said he'd do in keeping Harry in line. This is still good stuff, but it just feels a bit off from before and not quite as good.

Down to a B+? Alright, fair enough. I personally still really like the show. Yes, this part is different, but I still find it extremely entertaining to see what's happened to the characters over 13 years.

Yeah, this one did have a fairly significant drop for me because I did become so attached to the mafioso setting, even knowing the "SF" setting was coming up. I also didn't like how many of the characters don't look all that different considering the 13 years; Bunji should definitely look older and Bear looks the same. Things like that kept it back some plus the overall change in tone. I still enjoy it a lot but it lacked the tension of what it had with Brandon being himself and not Grave.

I enjoyed the disc and liked the way they merged the first episode back into the main timeline. This time round I understood lots of things I missed first time, like the graves. As for it being superpowered orgmen vs Grave - I'm a bit undecided. The game roots look like they're going to be prominent. I didn't like the fight with Bob Poundmax very much since it played like a boss battle, but the fight with Bunji was interesting since the opponent was smart.

I think I'd go along with a B+, maybe an A-.

I'm hoping my BestBuy will have this in stock tomorrow. I'm still torned up from the last volume. Mika being Big Daddy's and Maria's daughter... blah.

Well I think that this volume holds up pretty well, and yeah I do agree that the battle between Brandon and Bob played like a boss battle from the video game, except I think it was beautifuly done.

The episode that actually made me like this volume alot more than maybe volume 1 and 2 is episode 20, "Brother". It wasn't the part where Bungi and Brandon duke it out but the part before it where Brandon and Mika visit Maria's old appartment and the small segment in which he has that image of Maria in the snow. I was almost in tears, it was such powerful moment and the fact that pretty much everyone who's been watching this series has wanted Brandon and Maria to be together. Yet he can only have her now in his dreams, is very sad if you think about it.

Overall I think that episode would make the volume an -A in my book.

Yeah I agree with the score. This is still a good show, but I find it hard to get used to the sci-fi shift that suddenly took place.
Does the way Brandon talk now (in the dub)remind anyone else of Bulma from Heat Guy J? Where is my bunny? /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
