Playing a brand new disk in a Magnavox MDV-455 player breaks up around 1:46:00 into the disk. It might have other spots, but it was playing in a store, so I wasn't paying attention. I the errors were blocks where the decoding was scrambled around Midori, then on the guy's head. They were pretty much all in areas of detail. The video also 'skipped' while it tried to play through the spot. There was a light spot towards the outside of the disc, but since the breakup was specific to areas of detail while the flat areas of color were fine leads me to believe it was not due to the scuff.

I popped in into a machine with a Samsung SD-616 DVD Rom and WinDVD 6. It took quite a while for the disc to be recognized and I heard the lens clicking quite a lot while it tried to focus. After about 15-20 seconds it finally cooperated. It played fine through the 1:46 area of the disc though.

Just for reference, it was set to Japanese with subs.

*edit*

I should add, anyone else having problems with this disc, or is it just the cheap Magnavox player? /images/graemlins/happy.gif

*edit II the sequel*

I just realize that I meant the problems popped up around 1 hour 46 minutes into the disc.

Judging by the discription, you may have a faulty disc, but (most of) the players are fixing the problem. You may want to exchange it with another. You never know, it may get worse. Also that clicking sound that your players are making isn't really good for the players.

Yeah, the lack of responses does make it seem like a faulty disc. I know the clicking is bad while it furiously tries to focus on the disc, but I only noticed it from the DVD ROM drive. It wasn't my disc, but maybe I'll try to borrow it and see if it likes my PS2, Apex player, or my Pioneer PC drive.

I tried to play this last night on my computer's DVD-ROM drive, and it wouldn't play at all(WinDVD)I couldn't get past the menu (ATI Windows Media Player), froze up (Interactual). Wouldn't work. Using my home stand-alones weren't an option at that point, as my wife would have killed me. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Today, On my brand new Dell, (literally a week old)using an NEC DVD+-RW, with PowerDVD, and Windows Media Player, it also wouldn't play.

At home, on my stand-alone players, it worked, and I got to see this sweet little show. However, I ran into problems with the extras. The audio story stopped at about the 3:40 mark, and went back to an earlier point, and then cut to the next DVD (4 year old Sony 5 disc DVD player). The next time, using the fast forward button, I still repeated that part, but was able to get past the 3:40 mark, only to run into another problem at around the 3:50 mark. At which point I was brought back to the Extras menu.

I was only able to catch a few seconds of the promos, when the same thing happened, Ditto with the outtakes.

This was set up for Japanese language with subtitles.

Hmm, it sounds like there's a couple defective discs out there. Just exchange it for another copy.

I get paid tomorrow. Midori is one of a few things I'm gonna pick up. If I have any problems I'll make a note where/when. I'll write back tomorrow night.

For those who have already participated in this thread, I just realized that I put 1:46 as being the problem point I encountered, but I meant around 1 hour and 46 minutes.

Let me note that when I stated it was set up for Japanese language and subtitles, it was set up that way when I could get it to play on my stand-alone, as I couldn't get it to do anything on my DVD-ROM drives at home or at the office.

Swaped it at Best Buy, for a lovely, glitch-free disc.

I'd have to agree there as my copy works with no problems getting it to mork on both my DVD player (Matsui DVD225 multi region) or my computer (Freecom external DVD +/- R/RW) using roxio DVDMAX player 2.0 (re-badged version of power DVD 6 I think)
