Something Chris said in Forum Feedback, got me thinking.. is April Fool's "celebrated" in Japan? I more or less thought of it as being universal, but now that I think about it I don't remember seeing any references to it in any of the Japanese material I've ever come across.

There are japanese April's Fools websites. The most handy example I have right now is the Typemoon Nekoarc the Movie (http://www.typemoon.com/product/movie/index.htm) page. You can also check out the Moon Phase (http://www.moonphase.cc/) listing of April Fool (エイプリルフール) pages from April 1st.

Reminds me of last year when on April 1st the Ginga Tetsudô Monogatari movie got announced and every jp news site didn´t take it serious and considered it a joke (though no announcement on an Official site helped to make people ignore the announcement ^_^).

It certainly is known, but I don't know how widespread the custom is (as compared to the U.S.). April 1st came and went here without any notice.
I saw a TV show about an April Fool's prank though: some years ago, a respected TV broadcaster had reported about contact with aliens, and it had caused quite a fiasco. I don't remember the details of that story though... maybe Ayumu-chan can give better info, since she also watches the TV show, "Trivia no Izumi" (where I saw that info).
Google for iShrimp and you will find my favourite April fools joke. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Ah, I didn't see that one. I haven't been watching TV lately. Or, if it was a while ago, I hadn't started watching that show yet. Pick whichever excuse is more appropriate. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
