I will be making my first journey to Japan in May and was wondering if there are any places (in the US or Japan) that allow you to rent a Canon Wordtank or similar electronic dictionary. Barring that, what would you recommend a traveler carry as a paper dictionary and/or phrase book? My trip will take me to Tokyo and the Kyoto area with a lot of self-exploration; would like something with me to help out in case of getting lost, etc.

Wouldn't it be simpler just to buy one?

Hi Sprak,

What you want to do is this: buy a used Wordtank on eBay, use it and enjoy it, and then re-sell it on eBay when you are done. We recently did exactly this.

See your PM. I have an offer for you....
