Hey all!!
Just wanted to let everyone know about the convention. It'll be October 28th - 30th this year at the Cashman Field Convention Center. (Yay! We got an exhibition hall!!)
Visit the website at: http://www.animevegas.com
Just so you know. I am a member of the convention staff, handling all things graphic and artistic. I'll also be cosplaying as my screen name, Rukia from Bleach, so look for me! (Heh, I know its a long ways away)
Well, I hope a lot of people can come to the con, it'll be a lot of fun and hey, its Vegas too. I'll be posting big news items as they come up.
Oh and by the way, on May 7th we are going to have a Voice Acting workshop at the West Charleston Library. Laura Bailey and Chris Sabat, from Funimation, will be leading the workshop.

Greetings and good morning all,
I'm going and I can't wait to go there. It'll be my first out of state con. I can't wait to see you again Sami. You were a blast at Ani-Magic last year. I also tried to e-mail you the pics I took there of you at AM but it bounces. How do you want me to send them to you?
Anyways, I can't wait for Anime Vegas. I hope to have my Adol from Y's done for the con.
From,
Joe

Heya Joe!
Oooooooh! I remember you!!!! Yeah! I look forward to seeing everyone who attends! I'll be teaching people how to do Flash Animation there. Grin. I'll have a table in the artist alley and when I do, I'll have my computer there so if anyone wanted to learn some animation techniques that are more in depth, I can teach one on one. Grin.
As for the pics....my email has a bit of a tight antivirus protection, anything that it even hints at having something odd on it might cause it to send it back to the sender. But ya know, since I'll be seeing you anyway, you can probably just bring them....it might be easier that way. grin.
AnimeVegas is smaller than most conventions, but the people there and the location make it one of those conventions where you know you'll never ever be bored. I really like the new website design. Grin. The person who runs the con....Rich...is a super awesome dude! He's super sweet.

Sweetness... does that mean we can make requests?
I know Jonathan Klein will be really grumpy if all of his hired goons (Liam, Patrick, Sam) get to party it up while he's stuck in Los Angeles burning the midnight oil directing some NewGen dub. If anything, Jon needs the break more than any of 'em... the guy's a workaholic. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
Rukia Kuchiki
05-27-2005, 11:10 PM
Actually, I'm not sure we can take requests (but I'll mention it the boss, if he hasn't seen it already), because what's been happening is that one Voice Actor/Actress will tell another that they're going to Anime Vegas, then this other Actor/Actress will contact us saying they want to come too. It's crazy, but flattering at the same time.

I'm confused. The con issued a press release (http://www.anime-cons.com/news/article.shtml/140) recently that lists a bunch of guests...but the list doesn't match up with the list on the web site (http://www.animevegas.com/guests.html). Which list is more accurate? Did any cancel?
tstidm1
05-30-2005, 08:15 PM
I am confused, also. They may have some additions, which is partially announced on the list. I am shocked at who they did get. The creator of Inuyasha is a confirmed guest of Anime Vegas. Vegas is that can get people like Takanshi, but they are only a second year con. I would not want to be on staff for that con.

Uh, Takahashi is not a guest at Anime Vegas. It looks like there was some malformatting. The Press Release currently says "Liam O'Brien Anime script writer/ADR, Director Koi Kaze, Rumiko Takahashi (Anthology, DearS and Boys Be)". It's supposed to say "Liam O'Brien Anime script writer/ADR, Director Koi Kaze, Rumiko Takahashi Anthology, DearS and Boys Be)". (No, RT is not responsible for DearS and Boys Be /images/graemlins/wink.gif).

Thanks Geoduck, for clarifying that mistake.
As for the confusion on the guest list, the website is correct as to who our guests currently are. I've already conntacted the boss about the issue on the press release. As of yet, we do not have a guest from Japan... doesn't mean we're not trying though.

It's down to Vegas or Dallas (http://www.animefest.org). Vegas would give me an extra month to save up, as well as a break between Aya and the next con. It's cheaper to get to Vegas than Dallas, and hotels look slightly cheaper too. Plus, I'm a big CSI fan, and going to Las Vegas...
And if a whole bunch of the ET crew is gonna be there, that would actually be nearly as big a draw for me as the VA list, after meeting some of you briefly at KamiKazeCon.
This will require careful consideration.

Anime Vegas is a non-profit organization to promote awareness of Japanese Culture and Entertainment in Las Vegas, providing a public forum for those, who share an interest in Anime, a subculture of animation fans. Because of Anime's viral popularity across the nation and around the world and the growing number of Anime enthusiasts and clubs, in the city, adding “Anime Vegas, to the repertoire of events, within the convention capital of the world, made perfect sense.
Armed with passion and a desire, not to mention a dedicated staff of organizers, Anime Vegas decided to produce the first Las Vegas Anime Convention. Attendance, garnered only by word of mouth and Internet bulletin board postings, surpassing wildest expectations and has convinced the organizers to continue the event.
It's happening again!

SECRETS... You can trust me! Tomorrow is San Diego and I cannot sleep tonight. I am too hyper about going. I am travelling with Adam (remember him from last year's event?), and he is sacked out in my spare bedroom. I told him we are leaving at 6:00 AM, as it was a mere 117 degrees today in Vegas and I want to beat the heat by travelling early in the morning. I wish you could go with us, but email me your address and I will send you a card from San Diego. I can't wait to see you again at AVC. Almost forgot, Jerry is atending again this year, talked to him on the phone yesterday and he wants to appear again!

Hi guys and gals
I have a minor update on the con stuff from the gaming room.
"We are proud to announce at AnimeVegas 2005 our gaming room will have a section devoted strictly to wireless and handheld gaming. Bring your Nintendo DS and Sony PSP systems and hang out and play with others. Relax with your friends and make new ones (or rivals)! We are more than happy to provide a section of our gaming room to showcase this emerging technology, and our featured wireless game is the soon-to-be-released NINTENDOGS! Come exchange dogs, in game items, compete in friendly competitions, and take part in our prize giveaways only for NINTENDOGS owners!"
More to be announced soon...

Lots of dub VA guests and improv go hand-in-hand with one another. The only real shame about Anime Vegas is the early 6:00pm wrap time for most con-sponsored functions. It'll limit the amount of flexibility you'll have with booking fun blow off panels like these.
On the bright side, it gives the guests plenty of time to take it easy, enjoy themselves and take in the sights and sounds of the city that never sleeps.

I know this... and we thought about it and decided to knock off early. Lots of reasons influenced the decision (gets darker earlier, hotels are a bit farther away, guests need time to have fun). I am letting the guests have their way at the panels, events and workshops, so it should really be fun. Even I do not know what they are going to do.
But the screening room and the gaming rooms will be open late. Once Vegas grows in stature, we can have longer hours and a bigger venue. So spend some money and pre-register I don't own a casino you know!

I think Rich's guest budget is tapped out... which isn't surprising given that he's invited close to 30 dub VAs and directors this year. That being said, I know I wouldn't object if he was able to put Caitlin on his short list of guests to look into if somebody from the current roster happens to cancel. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

The budget went out the window a long time ago. I am still finding $$ in weird places (in the couch, the dryer, coat pockets). Heck I even found 300,000 yen this week with my passport. Now to get a guest from Japan to commit, that is the hard part. Arakawa-san is unavailable, waiting to hear from 15 others I have contacted.

To all those who cosplay. We have put up the form needed to enter the cosplay competition on the website (www.animevegas.com (http://www.animevegas.com)). I know a lot of people have been asking us for it. BTW, the cosplay event is being held in a theater adjacent to the Cashman Convention center. Long story short... the venue is NICE!
On a side note... our weather is really nice right now. We have dropped into the 80's. Come convention time, it shouldn't be much colder (maybe 70's)... though at night it will get cold. You know desert nights and all.

Anime Vegas Graphic Designer here... I'll take a stab at that answer.
The brand new ones are:
Trish Ledoux and Toshifumi Yoshida
Of course you know that our guest list is huge! I'll mention a few though. Veronica Taylor, Vic Mignogna, Monica Rial, Hilary Haag, Laura Bailey... and the list goes on and on.
We also posted our tentative events schedule. Lots of things to do. Our cosplay event will be huge (I mean we have a theater that can seat like 2,000 or so people). We have a whole bunch of panels, a anime triva event, lots of things going on in the Gaming room, and I'll be hosting a fanart contest. Lots of fun.

Holy Crap! There's an Anime Convention in Las Vegas!? I just came back from visiting family there. It's a virtual dead-zone, with nothing but rock, sand, gamblers & hookers. There wasn't a single thing related to anime I could find anywhere. Then I come back and see online there's a Convention being held there ~ go figure /images/graemlins/icon_rolleyes.gif.
But with such an incredible list of people showing up.... God I hope somebody films all those voice actors (panels) like they did at Anime Fest last year in Dallas, TX. You wouldn't want to pass up missing such a huge collection of anime actors from around the nation?
Rukia Kuchiki

Gee, please don't put it like that. I live here for crying out loud. Anyway, I happen to enjoy the rock and sand out here. I like to avoid the Strip like the plague... but I have to pass through it every day to get to the college.
But seriously... I've only been trying to pimp this con for like half a year or so... I know there really isn't any culture out here in Vegas but there are anime fans. They tend to hide though. You have to be a local to find all the anime fan hangouts /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Okay so the Convention is like this week. Needless to say I am buzzed. All the badges and things are getting printed and I'm seeing them for the first time, out of my computer screen... *squee* Everything looks soo cool. I love seeing my logo everywhere too. *hugs Anime Vegas Logo* This is the first time, any of my designs has been used like this, so I can't help but gush. BTW, to any Anime Companies... if you like my work... feel free to hire me. Just ask Rich for my real name.
Anyway. I thought you guys were going to talk about our huge number of guests and whatnot. We put up the events list too. And we have a lot of things to screen. And have I mentioned that I will be hosting Iron Fanart: The Ultimate Fanart Competition. So, please share in the joy (that the convention is this week).

We have access to the Biggest VA Panel in the theater on film. However we are not able to show it or sell it. I know that the staff and volunteers can watch it, once I receive a copy. So that means you must attend our meeting in Las Vegas to view it. We also have some video and digital pictures of the event, courtesy of our photographer and Cartoon Mogul's own Johnie Tidwell. Some will be posted on the site later in November.
Thanks to Vicious for the kind words too, but he really out did himself and guided most of the guests. I could not have done this task alone and he was the best second anyone could have at their convention working with guests.

Hiya all!
I'm baaaaaaack! (que scary music)
Wow! I wanted to say thank you to everyone who went! It was so much fun! Rich, you especially! (big bear hug) I'm sorry bout the problem on Monday morning, I felt like such a dork, got caught by renegade fanboys and they wisked me away into a taxi cab before I could get all the stuff I needed to do done. *grimace* But, I think it was just great to come back there to see all the faces that I remembered from last year. So many fans came up to me saying such nice things about them being glad that I had come back. It was super duper sweet! Grin. It was so nice to see sooooooo many other voice actors....you don't get to see very many others in the austin area. grin.
I hope everyone enjoyed their candies and the prizes I gave away. Grin. Gave away 2 wooden swords, 2 "how to do animation" books, 1 complete art set, a whole LOTTA candy, and even gave away a Lilo & Stitch cel and a Clerks cel. Super fun stuff.
Vicious, were you able to get on the plane with that sword I gave ya?
It was cool to see everyone from AOD there! Super duper fun! I hope I didn't bore Bitterman too much on Sunday morning. lol. Got to yap on Geoduck's phone for a second, Always good to see Ben! My favourite Irish boy was there. So many folks from here! It was just super duper cool!
All I can say is that I found out what my favourite slot machine was. grin. /images/graemlins/wink.gif I even won a small jackpot in the airport. Grin.
Anywho, just wanted to say hi. I crashed and burned yesterday and the day before. My brain fried and I had to sleep most of the day away. I'm now back to normal and working on some more animation stuff. grin.
Hopefully in January you'll be able to see some of my animations on a very popular network channel...under contract and can't say where, but it's pretty hilarious. Almost done with the first episode. So far it is 17 episodes long. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm still decompressing after the convention, but I'll add to what others have said. It was a great convention. Anime Vegas was very fun, and Rich did a wonderful job organizing and running the event. They had the schedule packed with stuff to do. From the open to the close, there was always a good panel worth attending. I also had the great pleasure to talk to quite a few people, including several from AoD. Of course the giant VA panel was a unique experience. It was the largest gathering of the dubbing industry I've ever seen in one place. Other highlights include the "From Japan to America" panel, where the panelists described the anime pre-production process in detail. The discussion included several parts of often overlooked aspects, such as mixing, DVD design, QA, and packaging layouts. It was a great convention for technical panels.
Overall, I'd say I had the most fun at the "VA tryout" panel on Saturday. We essentially watched a super-accelerated version of the dubbing process, from auditions (taken from volunteers in the audience) to recording and finally ending with a semi-finished product synched to the video and everything.
Thanks to everybody who attended my panel on Sunday afternoon. I hope you all had a good time.

Eeesh... I'm still exhausted after driving some 11 hours straight yesterday. (Southwest airlines finally comes in here next year and I'll be flying out next time, certainly, as much as I enjoyed the scenic routes I took.) I think those three late nights in a row caught up right quick. This was indeed a very enjoyable con, the guests and AoD'ers were all great, the panels were interesting, the con seemed well organized and last, post-con activities in Vegas-proper were memorable.
Of panels, I'll echo others about really enjoying the director/technically-geared examples where JK, Jaffe, McFarland, Bevins, Clinkenbeard, Sinterniklaas, Schemmel and others I'm spacing out could talk shop. I like knowing a particular VA's favorite line from their least favorite character in their second favorite anime as much as the next guy, but the From Japan to America, Voice Acting Tryouts, Insight to Directing and East meets West panels were very much appreciated.
I do want to apologize again to Vegas-virgins aniki, Ben, B-rad and Geoduck (who hadn't been there in so long he may as well have been) for the Vegas Strip crash tour from Bitterman and myself. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
And yes, this the first time I've actively interacted (read: gambled) with the industry talent, Carrie and Sami Hart really are the sweetest people in the world. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Heck, Rich, you can have half the North American talent you had this year and fill out the rest with Japanese guests and it would still be impressive. If we could get some more technical-minded panels next year, like say one where a couple Japanese actors or production staff and English counterparts could compare notes would be perfect. (Though I'm sure not easy. /images/graemlins/wink.gif)
But thanks for the hard work, and good luck next year.

A great time was had for all. What will we do to top this next year? Oh yeah, speaking of next year, some guests CONFIRMED AT THIS YEAR'S CONVENTION! Check out the site for the updates (yes, thanks to the power of No Dose, we got some things posted today).

But thanks for the hard work, and good luck next year.

yes, I did try to get at least one VA from Japan, but it did not Happen (emailed and mailed letters to Junko Takeuchi (Naruto), Minami Takayama (Conan, Luffy), and Romi Paku (Ed Elric), just to name a few). Will try again next year.

Just got back home today. Like most of you who attended, I'm exhausted. I had an amazing time.
I enjoyed putting faces to the names of so many AODVD posters here I've corresponded with. I even got to play several hours of Blackjack with some of them /images/graemlins/happy.gif
The actors: Wow! so much talent in one place at one time. I only wish I had a recording booth and an anime to record with all of these people. Meeting many of my fellow anime production bretheren for the first time was quite a treat. I hope I have the opportunity to work with them in the future.
The Panels: Having so many panels discussing the technical process of producing/directing anime was great fun to participate in. I decided to crash the "East meets West" panel and I am so glad I did. What started out a simply a Q&A with the audience, turned into a intelligent round-table (technically rectangle) discussion/debate amongst all of the creative talent. We learned a lot about the similarities and differences in the processes we use in the various studios around the country.
Rich and his staff put on an excellent con. I hope I can attend next year.
Regards,
JK

Thanks Jonathan for the nice words (the check is in the mail!). Once things settle down we can start to plan for next year (hopefully Oct 27-29).

I saw glimpses of me standing behind the autograph line in a few of those pics. I didn't even notice somebody was taking those pics.
