In Summary:
In a way, Conan continues to be more of the same but just like how I enjoy watching mainstream Hollywood mysteries, it's all part of the genre and I'm interested in seeing the quirks of how the Japanese handle them in this format and medium. The show doesn't really hold surprises but it does entertain for about an hour and at the cheap price of it, I'm finding it difficult to really complain. I'd much rather have big seasonal sets in chunks of course but at the same time I'd fear that I'd actually lose interest in the show due to how much of it was in my hands at once. This opening volume of Case Five is basically no different from the end of Four, so if you're enjoying it, you'll like this.

A big positive for me. I can't get enough of this series. The bottom line.... either you really like this show or you don't. It's just one of those kinds of shows that doesn't offer any huge surprises at all, but instead has, in my opinion, just solid episodes overall. The one thing I am really confused about with this volume is... it contains episodes 68-69 and episode 73. Then, when volume 5.2 comes out, that contains episodes 70-72. WTF? Funimation is really starting to confuse me with some of the things they are doing with the release of this show.

Episode 70 thru 72 are a three part story arc. They did not want to give one episode of arc then on then vol get the rest. To me I would have done a five episode disc but it an okay way to handle the episodes. I love this series too. I have already pre order it.

Ahhhh... got it. I was a little perplexed as to why they were releasing the episodes out of order. Of course, as far as the five episodes a disc suggestion, I don't think you'll find anyone on these forums that collects this title that won't agree with you on that!

The episodes out of order isn't surprising - the Japanese release does the same thing. The only time it annoyed me was in one case where switched episodes so that a previously unintroduced character was in an episode that was put on video prior to the character's introductory episode. That was screwy. What's really weird is that the Japanese region 2 release has 4 episodes per disc - you would think that the region 1 would at least equal if not surpass the region 2 episode count.

I got it pre-oredered too, altough I know I am going to get rolled with the expensive prices, for one this is a series I really wish to support for it's release here. Does anyone knows if the series is to be released in it's entirety? I know the episodes are pretty self-suficient, but still.

Personally, I have no idea if it will be released in full since it is still airing in Japan. But, I certainly hope that most, if not all of it, will be released eventually on R1. It will be nice when they get to the episodes that were released in Japan on DVD, as the picture quality will improve greatly. If I'm not mistaken though, the DVDs didn't begin to come out until the episodes were something like 150+ so there is still quite awhile to wait, especially at 3 episodes der disc.
