How's the dub on this one? I just picked volume 1 up, and haven't heard any reports as yet - just vaguely wondering which language to start with. (Probably do the dub out of habit by this point, but I'd still love to hear opinions.)

Bleh, it's kinda mediocre. I found voices were all over the place in terms of quality, especially in the first episode, but they level out a bit later on, as the regular characters make their appearances. I guess it's because the cast is filled with relativly unknown VAs, the only name that jumps out at me is Kellie Ray. I've got Vol.2 sitting on my desk, and I will continue watching the dub, as it's not horrible, I just wouldn't recommend it over the orginal Japanese (which ain't that hot either).

Ooh, Kelly Ray is in it, is she? She made quite the huge impression in Alien Nine.

And she's about the only major highlight. Lessee', I'll just paste my thoughts from last month's award thread and save some needless regurgitation:

The dub for Naru Taru from Audioworks is okay, not great, but listenable. Name pronunciations seem off, but are at least generally consistent. A number of the incidentals were rough, but the general leads, as they come in and out of the story are not bad. Actually, I thought Kelly Ray as Shinna was great, and fit the character very well, over-energetic and optimistic brat that Shinna is. Renee Gloger's Akira was good, too, and sounded about how I expected her to sound while reading the manga. Renee Goldstein's Satomi and Josh Mosby's Shunji fit well, too. Overall it's not a dub to write home about, but the off-kilter feeling of the show, as well as the somewhat underwhelming quality of its original script and characterizations don't bring too much attention to the fact. Of course, I felt the same way about Princess Nine from ADV and that dub eschewed the average quality of the show to shine above it. Hopefully Shadow Star can do the same by its end, though only nine episodes away.

Basically, I felt the job from Audioworks for CPM was like Media Blasters going the Arvintel route: capable talent, but not used to potential. Patlabor was the same way, but I think that's an overall better dub, or at least features a higher percentage of standout performances.

I wasn't overly impressed by the dub in this show but it wasn't terrible. I've just heard much better. I found the sub to be a bit more entertaining.

I actually had a chance to watch one episode last night; unfortunately I was very disappointed with it. It sounded to me like the actors were all sleepwalking through their lines, and the bad synchronization made it worse. Considering that this was from the company that produced dubs that I've really enjoyed (including Lodoss, Slayers, World of Narue, Grave of the Fireflies, and Night on a Galactic Railraod), this was a major letdown for me. Now granted I have heard two other awful dubs from CPM (RG Veda and M.D. Geist), but while this one is mildly better, it's not anywhere near close for me to recommend. As a matter of fact, it discouraged me from watching the rest of the show. (The title seemed pretty bizarre to me anyway.)

This is just my opinion, of course, but I wouldn't recommend this dub.
