Here are the edits:

Page 30: Akane's canteen of alcohol is translated as a canteen of "super punch."

Page 136: The rock'em sock'em boxer's genitals are removed. (http://img330.imageshack.us/img330/925/drslumpboxercomp7yn.jpg)

The images are on ImageShack for now but in the meantime I would really, REALLY appreciate it if someone (preferably involved w/ the forums) would take over hosting duties.

Other than that they replaced a reference to Nagoya dialect to a Boston accent at the beginning of "Bubibin Man." It was wicked flattering. /images/graemlins/anger200.gif

This has NOT been standard for Viz. Until recently, there has been no information from Viz when they edit a title. I hope that this notice does become a standard for whenever Viz does edit a title (not that I want Viz to edit anything -- of course I don't -- but if they do I want the notice), but until we've seen this with more consistency I think it is too early to say this is standard anything.

This means that on page 30, Arale and Akane discover Akane's stash of Super Punch, and on page 131, poor Peasuke has been neutered!

I have a bunko edition (combines the first 2 volumes plus the first story of the 3rd) so I will be able to provide scans but not at this point in time.

Fucking great. I just bought the first volume recently, and I really enjoyed it. Now they're editing it? What the fuck?! The first volume showed teenagers smoking, they left in that Tanuki and his giant balls, and even nipples on Senbei's porno! Why start editing now?!

Thanks alot Viz, looks like I won't be finishing Dr. Slump, Excel Saga, or Evangelion. You ain't getting my money til you stop censoring your manga.

There's a third edit, too, that I forgot about when I was reading last night. On page 136, Streets (one of the rock'em sock'em boxers that Senbei and Clinton Soramame are playing with) loses his shorts. Viz removed the naughty bits.

SCANS ARE FORTHCOMING! (I would have had them earlier if it had not been for a dinner party, a brief power outage and drooling over Johnny Damon.)

Now? A similar, if not the same, edit-warning is in the first book! It's on the publisher info page that's opposite the title page, about half-way down.

Does anyone know what, if anything, was edited from the first volume? I was previously going to mention the warning from the first book, but no one else seems to have commented on any edits... I thought that perhaps (yeah, right) the warning was there just-in-case, and was going to be printed in all of the Shounen Jump books, edited or not.

I don't think any was, they left in pretty much everything (nipples, nudity, teenagers smoking, etc.)

Once Kenshin is finished, i'm giving up on domestic manga. Nothing is safe anymore, so i'd rather not get my hopes up. Time to go back to tanks and translations. And here I thought the dark ages were over the second Viz announced Shonen Jump, and Tokyopop's apparent 180 degree turn. In the end, it only made things that much worse. You can trust anime companies to be somewhat consistant, but it seems the manga industry is in a never-ending state of chaos.

I'm so glad for this forum, I was worried about this title even though, I was really looking forward to it. Now I don't have to waste my money on the English editon. What a silly edit though, why is it okay to show goku's nads but no one else's. It's the same kind of inconsistency that I saw in shonen jump. Like show the tanuki genitals in yu yu, buÂ*t not the tanuki in shaman. Or what about twelve year old naruto flipping the bird, but when the cast of DBZ do it, its just to much. urgh! I hate that Viz has so many titles that I want to collect. I'll just have to go back to collecting the imports. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

Silly Viz, and thier inconsistant editing. I wasn't terribly interested in this series to begin with, but I was thinking of picking it up eventually. Now, I guess I won't.

It's like Dragonball at Toys R US never happened. Worse, actually. So before Viz would listen to complaints and change. Now they're trying their best to whore manga out to the mainstream, artistic integrity be damned.

I guess there's no reason to get English versions anymore, I already have the French volumes, which are unedited.

Yeah, everytime I keep hearing about a new manga involving a "viz"(I coined it!), I keep thinking back to 1999/2000 when I stopped buying the monthly Dragon Ball issues because of the assinine edits(to which they thankfully fixed after awhile).

It really saddens me to see them gravitate towards that type of release again. /images/graemlins/sad.gif
