What is the signifigance of standung under a waterfall? Is it Buddhist, Shinto or both religious practice.

Does Japan have "sacred" waterfalls?

Standing under a waterfall is a religious pratice? I thought it was just masochism at work.

There are both shrines and temples that offer 修行. It's done to "train" your body and mind, to try to become one with the gods and nature.
