View Full Version : [FINAL CLIPS] Petite Princess Yucie Volume 6: The Final Test
B-Rad Lascelle

With the final installment of Petite Princess Yucie in the books, we get to enjoy one of the ALL-TIME GREAT single one-shot showcase performances for an actress with the likely end of Rachel Rivera's voice acting career. (Provided, of course, that you pretend Eden's Bowy doesn't exist... which isn't that hard.)
We also see the curtain call of another Monster Island series, which leaves GetBackers as the sole remaining show from that studio still in regular release.
So while all of these events are undeniably sad... we can still take time to celebrate the memory of Yucie. And what a great ride it was!

For those of you who've been sitting on the fence for this title's run... especially dub enthusiasts and anyone with a soft spot for Monster Island... consider me first in line to shake you off of it. You've really missed out on a special treat.
My deepest thanks go out to the voice of Balizan... otherwise known as the director of Petite Princess Yucie... none other than Robert S. Fisher, for giving Monster Island a great send-off and delivering one of the most memorable dubs this year.
Thank you to ADV for finishing this series. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
And last but not least... thank you to Rachel Rivera and the rest of the cast for making me smile, laugh and cry for the entire 26-episode run. That's all any great dub aspires to be... and you can rest assured that this will be remembered as a true hidden gem and a wonderful accomplishment. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Well said. And thanks for the wallpaper. As I said before, it's a crime this show never got an artbook.

Aww, coming from megami I was expecting at least 3/5 of the girls to be bear-bottomed! Just kidding.
Yeah, Yucie was such an amazing series. Its become my favorite series, and my favorite ADV/MI dub. Thanks ADV for doing a great job on this release (although some dub commentaries would have been nice!).

Is she quiting the business? There's always FUNimation & others you know.
But you are right, this is one of the best dubs I've ever heard from ADV. It's always the "underdogs" that shine the best! Not to dismiss some other favorites, but after hearing most of the cast from Happy Lesson, they were wonderful in Puchi Puri Yuushi - they all fit perfectly with their characters and did an outstanding performance (both guys & gals)! I don't know if ADV will retain some of them or if they are still interested in Dubbing, but I would love to hear more from some of these fine actors/actresses.
Thank you so much for such a beautiful series. I'll watch it over and over many times in the coming years.
Looking over Monster Island's list of titles, it seems both Puchi Puri Yuushi and The Devil Lady are two of my favorite series they've worked on. "sweet" ^__^

It's not that she's quitting. It's just that ADV has already shut down their Austin studio, where Yucie was recorded.

Some of us here in Austin are keeping ourselves busy. Grin. Larissa just had her birthday a couple weeks ago, JShannon Weaver is working on his theatre production, and there's been a LOT of live action films being shot here in Austin. So don'tcha worry too much. Also, there's one ADV director (charlie campbell) who's been snagging a few of the Austin VAs for Gatchaman every now and then. Houston is super accesible to us down in Austin. So as long as Charlie keeps callin us, we'll do the drive up there. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yeah, okay, all right. I bawled like a baby. Are you satisfied?
It's for shows like Petite Princess Yucie that I am an anime fan. It's for dubs like Petitle Princess Yucie that I am a Monster Island fan. I know the people who made this show will continue to work in the acting field, but the selfish fan in me is sorry that very little of it will likely be in anime voice acting. It's just too sad to think that this may be the last work we'll ever hear from Rachel Rivera, Kelly Huston, Lee Eddy, Joey Hood, Josh Meyer, Shawn Sides, Larissa Wolcott or any of the other people who were involved in this wonderful show, and so many other shows through the last 8 years. Hopefully they'll continue to do voice work for ADV in Houston or even for Funimation in Fort Worth. But even if we never get to hear them in an anime dub again, I wish them well.
To everyone at Monster Island, thank you, and good luck.

Hi folks! I couldn't stand it any longer....
Thank you for all your support and loving comments about PPYucie (as well as other MI dubs I've directed or worked on)
It makes me and the cast so happy that this series' dub has found it's audience. We had soooooooo much fun doing it. Lowell and I were working on this and GET BACKERS at the same time in the same studio and we knew for a long time that it would probably be our last so we worked hard to get in everybody we loved to work with on these series (though GB had so many characters it was kinda hard not to call in everybody!)
So THANK YOU ALL!!!! And thanks to ADV for letting us do our shows the MI way because we strived to make our dubs a little bit different (see me & Lowell's first collaboration DAI-GUARD)
the best of all things to you,
Robert S Fisher

I have to thank you as well - for some reason (temporary insanity, I'm sure) I didn't pick this show up until last week, and was just floored at how incredibly well-done the dub is. Hopefully Netflix will get me the last five discs next week, because I really can't wait to see the rest.

How likely is it that Netflix will pony up and deliver those volumes in the three-week window you've got until the awards wrap up? Maybe we should get someone to wire you their DVDs. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
I'll reiterate my thanks to Robert for directing a wonderful dub. I can only hope that some of the folks still directing in Houston such as Monster Island-alum Charles Campbell or 'I'll audition everybody' Kyle Jones will be exposed to some of the performances in Yucie and ensure that we haven't heard the last of these incredibly talented VAs.

Pretty damn good, actually - they're at the top of (one of) my queue(s), and I'll be adding an extra disc to my plan in three days. It'll mean I probably won't get to some of the other discs I was going to watch this month (most notably Peacemaker and Shura no Toki), but hey - Yucie's grabbed my interest like nothing else has in a while.
However, if anyone does want to wire me their DVDs, that would work, too. I'll have a lot of free time this week. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Care to share any initial comments from your stint with Volume 1? Any performances tickle your fancy more than others? (Furthermore, rest assured that it stays at this level of quality or BETTER throughout the duration. Notable volumes being 3, 4 and 6, IMO.)

Hmmm - I didn't take any notes for V1, but Yucie's vocals and characterization made me the happiest. What I remember most clearly is that there weren't any weak moments, even with the incidental cast - the entire thing was polished.

I'm sorry to revive an old topic but I FINALLY got to see this last night (stupid bills eating up my anime budget!) and I have to know, am I the only one who got completely suckered by that psych out ending?? lol oh man I was ready to throw things at the tv!
I do have to say that yes, I too, cried many times throughout the volume.

I was a bit upset by it, but I was kind of expecting it. And the new height mark, at least, was a nice touch that saved the end for me. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Yes. Despite not winning a single dub award, I still consider it the best series of 2005. The fact that Rachel Rivera didn't win an award for Yucie is a mistake that ranks up there with Keri Wahlgren not winning for Lavie in Last Exile.

Well, it's certainly going to make Best of 2005 nominations easier. Maybe we'll be able to fix this massive oversight then (yea, yea...dreaming again).
