I was at a GameStop and saw a used DVD of Wicked City (Special Edition) from Urban Vision at a pretty good price. Bought it, only to find out that the subtitles, starting at about halfway through the film, start to go increasingly out of sync with the Japanese audio. By the end of the film, the subtitles appear nearly a full second later than they should. I tried it on my Pioneer DVD player, my Philips DVD player, and both DVD drives on my PC, and got the same problem every time. I had no problems with any other part of the disc.
I ended up returning the disc and getting my money back (the store didn't have another copy), but since then a person I know who owns the DVD as well told me he has the same problem. I was wondering if we both had DVDs from a defective batch/print or if this is a problem that occurs with all discs of this movie. I looked at a number of reviews of this DVD online (including AoD's) and none of them mention anything like this. It doesn't seem possible that they just didn't notice it, as it's very prominent.
Easiest way to spot this is to turn on Japanese audio and English subs, and skip to Chapter 9. Right as the chapter starts, Mayart is saying something like 'sou da,' but (in my version) the subtitle for the previous line of dialogue, "...child?" is still on screen. The subtitle for what Mayart is saying, "indeed," doesn't appear until about a second after he says it.
Hopefully I just had a bum disc, as I like the movie and want the DVD.
