Make Your Own Hentai Dub

Hello, I'm a little new here, so I'll get to the point. I remember seeing a post called "Make Your Own Dub" which you guys made some suggestions to some already done dubs (and some that didn't come here yet). I was thinking of how it would work for hentai dubs. I mean, be honest, there are so many dub turkeys out there, searching for someone to fake it to perfection is hard to find. Some examples would be select titles from Anime18 (New York) and the entire catalog of NuTech Digital (never hire a porn star. Period). One such hentai I would love to see brought to NYC for a good dub would be Words Worth. Dick Tripwire, of course, would do some great ADR work for it, but finding a right cast would be difficult. Any suggestions?

Are you kidding? Ron Jeremy and Asia Carrera would rule as hentai VAs. The ol' Hedgehog still has some pretty good acting chops, and Asia Carrera has proven she's more than just a sexy body.

Yes, Asia speaks Japanese and is a member of the Mensa society. At least that is what she told me at SD Comicon a few years back when she found out I produced non-hentai anime. She and a bunch of her Hentai VA's were at the Nu-Tech table selling themselves *ahem* I mean selling their hentai anime titles.

Just as a fun hypothetical, if NewGen was contracted out to dub a hentai or a title with hentai elements and as a director you had to choose between using a porn star like Asia or a qualified talent when it comes to both acting AND moaning (ie. Erica Shaffer), who would you pick?

Yes, I would agree on a hentai dub featuring the voices of Ron Jeremy (for comedy) and Asia Carrera (for cuteness), but would they be able to make the trip to NYC to do so? Sorry if this sounds mean, but so far, NYC is the only other place where dubbing a hentai is legal. (ADV's Soft Cel division might be afraid of dubbing hentai, so it's illegal in Texas to do so; maybe.) However, let's not forgot the other porn stars with, at least, interesting names; Michael J. Cox, for instance, has a name that would be recognizable, and people would get the idea on where the name came from. I haven't heard his voice, but I would at least believe he can act. Same would go for Matt Bixel, (whose voice I heard) for his NY accent. But still, is there any dream team actors for hentai dubs that badly need to be fixed? Four Play/2x1 and Twisted Tales of Tokyo are perfect examples that desperately need better acting.

I can see you guys have a lot to say about this. But do you have any suggestions on a "dream-team" dub for a hentai? I'm still working on mine for Words Worth if it would be dubbed by Anime 18 (Dick Tripwire directing of course). Any suggestions should be nesscessary, and it could be any hentai you know-- from the good dubs to the bad dubs to the really bad dubs to the ones that need to be corrected.

I met Asia and Kobe Tai at the Big Apple Anime Fest back in 2001 and they were really cool. Kobe and I really hit it off as she was interested in getting more into voice acting. We worked on a deal to get her to come to NYC and do some work for Anime 18. Apparently one of her dreams was always to do voices - and especially sing - for Disney movies. She was a good singer too - She used to call me up and sing into my voicemail at CPM. Really. Unfortunately, the deal did not work out as some of the LA based companies she worked for got wind of this and put some pressure on her to not take the gig. Most unfortunate, but now at least I can truly say that a bona fide porno queen used to sing Disney songs to my answering machine.

Kobe Tai doing voice acting? Wow. I always wanted to know what she sounded like (other than an appearance on The Man Show's "Household Hints from Adult Film Stars" segment). Better luck next time, Tom. But so far, I've heard she, more or less, retired. I'm not sure if that's currently true, but you might have another shot.

To answer your question, yes. Dick hosted several of those hentai dubbing panels at several conventions; AnimeNext being one of them. I went there twice. Dick's a pretty nice guy with a weird sense of humor.

I can see, but ADV's Soft Cel Pictures division rarely dubs a hentai or continues to dub one. I'm not even touching Magical Twilight until some actors and actresses will be brace enough to dub it. So far, unless I'm corrected, the only other place where dubbing hentai is illegal, or in their own careers, a death wish, is Canada. No hentai is ever dubbed there. Honest!

Dubbing hentai isn't likely illegal anywhere. Just because it's not done somewhere doesn't make it so. Porn of all types, after all, is produced just about everywhere (even Canada--trust me. /images/graemlins/wink.gif) It's the distribution and possession (though hentai is legal, of course) of certain things that individual states and countries may or may not have laws about.

As for the actors and studios that do dub hentai, well, yes, the trend is with non-union shops, which are also cheaper for the lower-tier sales level of hentai. Much of Canadian dubbing is union, and though some actors may be willing, they may not be without aliases. Hence you're not likely to see it.

Thanks for the bold observation, bctaris. Anyway, I was roaming around some hentai titles on the web, and I come across to one I'm not sure about: Alien from the Darkness. Has that ever been dubbed before, or was it just released in it's original language? If dubbed, how was it?

Chris Beveridge has the review (http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/2073.php) here which shows it has a dub. It's a Kitty Media release from 2003 so it's going to be a Planet 2 Planet or Perfect Sound Studios dub, most likely. Hentai and particularly their dubs aren't really my area of expertise, so I don't know much beyond what Crystal Acids tells me, nor even the talent base for those studios.

If you haven’t looked already, the Recommendations forum here has some hentai threads from time to time, including this one (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=1055391&page=0&view=c ollapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1). When he reviews them, Chris will also supply discussion threads in the Region 1 forum. Some users like Gatts know their hentai well, but I don't think they care about the dubs. S Man back on Crysal Acids is the only one I know most likely to have a decent grasp of them, actually.

Hello again. It's A-Log, and it's about time to bring this post back up to date, because I've got another title that desperately needs a tune up. Has anybody ever seen the hentai "Kamyla" that dubbed horrendously by NuTech Digital? So far, only Jessica Gee has any proof of her involvement in that film. Check out her website if you need proof. And on the subject of NuTech, any body else seen "Love is Eighty Eight Keys"? (Unsure if this is the correct title.) I've heard it was a horrible dub. Horrible, horrible, horrible! If any body has seen it, maybe they could have a suggestion on who they would cast? Anyone?
